View Full Version : Stam to Ajax
From acmilan.com (official website) there was a breaking news that Milan have sold Jaap Stam to Ajax. Stam will wear the Ajax shirt as from next July.
I was surprised to be honest about the club where Stam is going, I thought he's going to PSV. However I'm thinking that in return we may have an option on some Ajax youngster.
yes, that's true... here it is

sorry, i cannot speak italian, please translate
We could get sneijder?!?!
I thought that he'll be going to Psv too but it doesn't matter, i wonder who will be his replacement?
Braida visit to Amsterdam wasn't for nothing after all, and if we would have a option for Sneijder would be great but will see.

cool this is great news he is old defender and he isnt the best of defenders so i am happy in general but i really really want sneijder i hope they give us sniejder for stam
its probably part of sneijder deal. its good that now milan will have to moove for new defenders ( 2 CB, RB). But I dont like the fact Sneijder is our only midfield solution for next season, as it looks so far. Anyway, stam did good job as a CB in milan, we'll ned somone as good as him.

When Stam is at CB there is still only a 2 or 3 players better than him at CB, at RB he is useless. Stam is still a very good player but in 1999 and 2000 he was voted best CB by his peers during his stay in the Premiereship. An unbelieveable CB "back in the day"
I am really surprised at the way our club handled the news. Usually we won't hear it (even though people can guess it) until probably the end of this season.
I guess it is probably because that Ajax already made it public? But then again, there must be some sort of agreement between the two clubs, otherwise, it is unbelievable and not good for the team.

Yes I am also surprised at the way the this was handled. Usually Milan management work under a shroud of silence. Leads me to believe there is more to the transfer than what meets the eye. Possibly Sneijder or maybe even Trabelsi coming the other way.
Not that big of a surprise. Stam has done well for us, and hopefully will do so until the end of the season.
But it means we need 3 defenders for next season... We have Cafu, Simic, Maldini, Costacurta, Nesta, Kaladze for next season... wow, I bit frightening :)

out of the list Nesta is the ownly certain player, we have no idea if Maldini will choose to retire or not in the summer. Billy will retire (hes 40 something), and Cafu wants to go back to San paulo. Simic and kaladze might be used to trade for other players.... and yea it is scary..
we need consistency and confidence. maldini and nesta can still be our best bet in the coming 1 or 2 years, depending on maldini's physical condition. otherwise, I don't mind seeing kaladze pairing with nesta with janku and simic on the sides. honestly, that is good enough considering our fantastic attacking force. but of course, I won't complain if we secure more star players.

Not a shock and I do sense a major rehauling of the defence over summer. Good luck to Stam and his time at Ajax.

I wouldnt say simic and kaladze are top class players who can carry milan to the new trophys. We need a class CB suck as Chivu or Gallas. A good replacement as Lugano,Terlizzi or even both of them. since Stam is leaving, costacurta retireing, maldini has fitness problems and we cant be 100% sure that he will be ok for next season. So we will need 2 CB's and a RB. assuming kaladze, serginho and marek can play as a LB. Nesta,Maldini(? chivu ? ) and ( ? one more CB ? ) will do fine. BUT - a very good RB is needed badly as Gattuso plays on the right. Wecould transfer hinm to the left and he could protect Jankulovski. enough tactics for now. Stam did very goosd job as a CB, he will be missed.
i´glad to know that is leaving at the end of the season.
a new cycle will arrive with new players and maybe a new coach
prepare to see a AC Milan completely different for next season :) :)
See ya

You are dead right about that, the departure of Stam certainly is first sign of a really major rehauling of our retaguard. Indeed, the retirement of Maldini is a very probable thing, and also the departure of Cafu.
i wish stam all the best because hes a player i admire alot... i hope we sign gallas, i saw chelsea-everton and he was the best player on the field IMO... very versatile, agile, strong, smart... and by the end of next season free... we should pre contract him, i think hes one of the best defenders in the world these days.

I didn't say that they are top class players either. :) I said I wouldn't mind seeing them play (if we can't secure better players).
Of course, it would be great if we could have a 10-year-younger Cafu or a 10-year-younger Maldini. :5drunk: But I guess it is not so possible as quality defenders are rare species now, and d@mn Juventus and Chelsea seem to stock them up. :d55:
As for the word 'suck' from your post, I suppose you meant "such"? :coffee:

Stam was really a good player.. I dont really know why he wanted to leave. Well, I was hoping we sell Stam to PSV in a kind of deal that would see the Brazilian Alex come this way, but we sold him to Ajax. I have no idea if we are going to buy Sneijder, but I have a strong feeling that we will simply not get him. I dont believe we will have any option on Sneijder at all, and any way, a midfielder is the last of our worries.
Trabelsi coming our way is nice - if he was the same player he was 2 years ago. He is not the same player as he used to be and is old now, he has also said he doesnt want to go to Italy but to England. I dont think we should think of him. I really hope we get a good natural RB, someone like last yr's Cafu, someone like.. like Cicinho :|
And yes, it is certainly showing that we are going to be having major changes in the defense. Well, my priority player is a natural RB, and the only one that I know that will be available and is good enough is Mancini. Daniel Alves is great but he is destined for Barca. Chivu will become the best defender in the world in 3 or 4 years team, he is really great. Alex is also something. Gallas is versatile and will be useful. Cris, i dont know, but he is more of a bet than a guarantee. Lugano? he was 2nd in the charts for the best player in south america last season, i dont think that should be ignored. Any of those would do, just as long as we dont get Materazzi!
I also believe we will be going for Rafael Sobis of Independiente. We've made 2 official offers in the last week I believe. The latest one was 2 days ago and I think it was 11 million; it has been confirmed that it was from a club in Italy. The Press believe its Milan. I dont know why, but I think he is another Luis Fabiano. I think we better go for Sergio Aguero of Independiente.

I agree with u there, chivu really should be the one to take over maldinis role, (defender who can play center and left back), the replacement for stam should be able to play center back and right back, like Bonera...... i would be happy for milan to get Terlizzi and barzagli over the likes of lugano, and cris just because they have already played in italy, plus the new uefa rules thing might bite us.......

hope it is truly a sign to show us they are gonna revamp our defence completely!

Grygera?!?! I heard he is good in defence, maybe we could get him for stam and get sneijder seperatly?!

good post hitmanq8
come to think of it... the possible departures in defence are: costacurta, stam (confirmed), cafu, and simic ... while i think maldini will stay another year (cafu 50-50) ... meaning we will need around 4 new defenders, id go for alex of psv, chivu from roma, gallas from chelsea, and oddo from lazio... we wouldnt be fixing anything if were gonna have less defenders next year than the ones we have this year because this itself was the main reason we were hurt so bad this season - lack of quality subs in defence. with oddo on the right, alex in the center, chivu can play7 both in the center and LB, while gallas can play in all 3 positions in defence, the defence should be ok IMO

With 2 or 3 top class defenders (between Lugano, Chivu, Oddo, Barzagli, Kompany, Vanden Borre, Alex, Cris, etc.); a new midfielder with creative skills (Sneijder); and a younger sub for Inzaghi or Amoroso, we will be in to turn into a real threat for our adversaries!
Hitmman:
Don't be so pessimist, Sneijder WILL come! :p017:

Don't forget that we will need 2 natural RB's if Cafu actually leaves. A starter and a sub for him. I think Oddo will be one of those players because both Milan and Oddo have been flirting for a long time now.
Bonera loves Milan and Milan want him, he is not my favourite player, but I do hope if we were to get him, he would not be our RB cuz he is horrendous when attacking.
I only recently noticed something very important that proves that our board took a huge risk. Over last summer we were linked to Cicinho so much and everyone thought that he would become a Milan player for sure, even Cicinho said he wants to join Milan forever and they are the best in the world. By that time, our management knew that we needed an attacking right-back. We were also in the hunt for Oddo, but we didnt buy him cuz 3.5 million euro's was too expensive for us according to Lazio! It certainly was clear that we were looking for a RB, but the important thing that I have noticed, is that when we lost on Cicinho, we simply didnt try to get another RB. Whats up with that? I mean, our board definitely recognized that we have a weakness at the RB spot especially when Cafu doesnt play, why didnt they do anything about it? Did they think that we can suffer one more season and take the risk that Cafu will not get injured, and wait for next year to find another more proven RB?
Well, whatever is going on at the Milan board these days is a mystery, I simply hope that they do the right thing. I pray and hope that Galliani does have something good to say about the Palermo game, because if he simply blames consistency, the pitch, or says "it was a slip-up and it can happen to any team", I really fear for him. True that he was a great director for years for Milan, but that does not mean everything that he will do in the future is going to be great. I think if Galliani does not say something good tomorrow, we might not only see major changes in defence, but maybe even seeing the Juve trio (Moggi, Bettega, and 1 more) over here! :(

Your questions hit the mark, and are virtually unanswerable by the board. In fact: Cicinho is really a fantastic player, the best defender Brazil have produced in a long time, and, to put it very frankly, I didn't see enough dedication, enough will, enough effort by our board to bring him to Milan. They simply appear to be not convinced that our retaguard is get dangerously old, that we don't have enough squad depth to play extremely tough competitions as CL and Serie A, it's really amazing!
im glad we didnt get cicnho, but im furious on the oddo issue... 3.5M??? berlusconi would burn that kind of money to start a fire!!! and we all know oddo's market worth should be much more.
i agree we need new players who can both play on the RB position... i think by getting oddo and gallas it would be good enough, gallas is really good going forward!

Gallas is similar to Stam in terms of versatility except that Gallas can also play as a LB. I dont think Gallas is any better than Stam in terms of attacking as an RB. I also dont think he is better in terms of defence.
