View Full Version : Coppa Italia: Palermo vs. Milan
From acmilan.it
'The Italian Cup is our priority because we have the chance of getting to the semi-finals. It’s true that this competition has been a bit snubbed at the start, but now it has come alive and more interesting. Anyway, the Italian Cup is our third objective of the season. It’s a competition that helps keeping everyone’s motivation going until the end. Hopefully we can do that this year again.' Carlo Ancleotti
GOALKEEPERSI: Dida, Fiori, Kalac.
DEFENDERS: Cafu, Kaladze, Marzoratti, Nesta, Jankulovski, Simic, Stam.
MIDFIELDERS: Gattuso, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf, Serginho, Vogel.
STRIKERS: Amoroso, Inzaghi, Gilardino, Shevchenko
my line up:
Kalac
Cafu, Simic, Kaladze, Jankulovsky
Kaka', Gattuso, Vogel, Seedorf
Amoroso, Gilardino
Why isn't Rui Costa listed?
Rui is out injured, so probable lineup will be:
Kalac - Cafu, Simic, Costacurta, Kaladze - Gattuso, Vogel, Jankulovski - Kaka - Gilardino, Amoroso.
Costacurta is out also...
Palermo has a new coach, Del Neri was fired...
PALERMO - Dal sito ufficiale del Palermo i 22 convocati di Giuseppe Papadopulo per Palermo-Milan:
Portieri: Andujar, Lupatelli, Sirigu
Difensori: Accardi, Barzagli, Biava, Conteh, Ferri, Grosso, Rinaudo, Terlizzi, Zaccardo
Centrocampisti: Barone, Bonanni, Corini, Gonzalez, Mutarelli, Santana
Attaccanti: Brienza, Caracciolo, Di Michele, Godeas.

This should be a game for those players who need minutes like: Jankulovski, Vogel, Cafu, Sheva (its been a while now that he hasnt been in good form), DIDA and Amoroso. Im looking forward to seeing the Sheva/Amoroso partnership. Dida should play this game, cuz its one of those 'Coppa italia' games which relieve pressure on the players and bring out the best of them because of its unimportance.
Whats going on with Ambro?

I don't understand what formation Carlo is using in this game and is he playing Cafu in midfield?
MILAN: Kalac; Simic, Nesta, Stam, Kaladze; Cafu, Vogel, Seedorf, Jankulovski; Kakà, Gilardino. Coach: Ancelotti.

Kaka missed a gift in the small PA of Palermo and a minute after that Kalac got surprised from 30 meters out by a floater from a Palermo player, Gonzalez I think. Nice goal but it was from just too far away.
The field is nasty, btw, soaked with water and maybe Kalac slipped a bit on the water pool right infront of his goal

Carraciollo is causing all sorts of problems, as is playing Cafu on the right side of midfield.. Milan is not a 4-4-2 team, and right now Milan is playing 4-4-1-1, which is even worse.

The aggregate score is 2-1 to Palermo right now. We need one goal, and we're though to the next round on the away goals rule.
it was 1:0 in milan, so we can loose by one goal today....

31-01-2006, 15:46
Ok, cool, thanks devoted dm and peters...now, can I please be told how it is that we are playing..poor passing in the middle, too many long balls...poor final pass..what is going on?
What is the aggregate score? I am too fed up to try to research it...plus, any insight on how it is we are playing...apart from badly? :d55:
The aggregate score now is 2:1 for Palermo, if we score one and not concede we'll go through, and we are playing catastrophic Carlo must change something at HT

i gave up trying to do that ppp stream thingy...
they are so close to scoring a third goal i think Di Michele (but i'm not sure) was one on one with Kalac and he missed just by the post we had luck there but we are playing terribleeee

No. IF we lost we should fine every single one in Milan for a week of their wages. I think the players have now REALLY gone arrogant. Giving up passes SO easily, JUST SO EASILY that you doubt if they have EVER trained during training session.
If this is FM06, I'll probably storm the team in the dressing room. They should all get their ass kicked.

Yes, but we could have scored too. We played very bad, if Carlo doesn't change anything at half time I doubt we are going to score today.

Warro Bantan
31-01-2006, 16:00
Well, from these posts :rollani:...which I am grateful for, even though they are loaded with criticism, but not enough detail...it seems that Carlo´s decision to play his "first" team is justified...as with Vogel and Marek on the pitch, we have dropped in standard...or so it seems...
Suffice it to say, I wont lose any sleep if we get kicked out of the Italian Cup...its a nonsense trophy..what..the winner gets into the UEFA Cup? Please..thats a competition for "also rans", and "mid-table teams" (which in truth we are closer to than "league leaders")...and with the all important second place to play for, we need to have our key players rested for our second trip to the Stadio Olimpico to face LAZIO...another team I love to hate.
u have to point the finger somewhere, ancelloti isnt motivating the squad.....
Oh ya, we should have sacked him the first day we hire him because he isn't motivating the squad for the 4 years he has been coaching.
This is just nonsense. If the players have achieved a CL, a serie A title and a italian cup winner, a runner-up in CL, a runner-up in serie A title, and you say he didn't motivate the players.
That's fine. He doesn't motivate the players from day one, if he is not a motivator. The fact that his past proves that he is capable of achievement mean sthat the players this time have to take the blame. If it's a tactical error, that's the coach fault.
Graeme C

This is crazy...and signals Carlo´s death knell.....even if its "only" the Italian Cup..Milan dont lose by this sort of a margin, and worse playing (from all posts) like a bunch of clueless idiots.
I am quite dismayed at this result...2-0 I can stomach..but a 3-0 defeat, which could prove even greater by the end of the 2nd half is too much to bear..
Thanks guys for the info, but I am going to go now, and concentrate on the job that is paying me, rather than inflict more torture on myself..

Yeah, this is definitely the beginning of the end for Carlo. I don't think this will go over too well with the club's management and the Prez. I know it's "just the Coppa Italia," but god damn!
At this point I would actually say that we should get a short-term replacement for Carlo, just to get someone with fresh new ideas that could re-motivate the players.

From this point onwards? Man, the season was virtually over when we lost the derby...though that was more to bad luck, poor officiating, and our sieve like defense coming in a distant 3rd...
We are paying the penalty for management´s poor decisions in the off season. Wonderful, at least its their money.
If Carlo has any backbone, he would quit after this display...sounds contradictory..but if he is to be blamed for poor workmanship when he is given archaic tools, or just poor tools to work with, then he has to declare that he will no longer work under those conditions...and since that will mean his leaving the club..then he should do so under his terms, not because they sacked him.
the only thing im sorry for is that we didnt put the best team on the field to secure the result of 'meaningless' coppa. Like u said it, even one trophy is better than nothing. Now im back to prayin' since CL is damn close...

I assume you are kidding, isn't it?
No I am not GRE-NO-LI. Everything is A-OK for me. Tell me, what can any of us here do about our current situation?
Of course, I am unhappy with the loss, but I am ok that it was in the Italian Cup, and not the league or UCL.
But the fact remains, that, as I sit here in Kingston, there is NOTHING I can do to change the fact that this season isnt going all that well for my beloved club.
I refuse to stop eating, cry, or even get depressed..the time for that is yet to come, and I sure hope it doesnt happen this term, but so far, so good..we are out of a nonsense competition, that holds no value to the club, nor obviously (from today´s performance) its players, we are 3rd in the Serie A table, and have a very important UCL match coming up in Germany in a couple weeks.
Nor will I post, every other day, in MM about how bad the team is, how much I hate Galliani, or when we should sack Carlo.
Listen, there is still all to hope for. Whats gone is gone..we cant win every match, but we can continue to support our team when they are down, as well as when they are up.
We can do nothing about the present situation...well thats not true..we have two choices:
1. continue to support our team, and hope for the best, or
2. switch teams, and support Juventus, Inter, Chelsea..should I go on?
The fact is, that the team played poorly today, and lost...what..an Italian Cup match...please..its not the end of the world, and if you believe as I do, in the fundamental fact that on our day, we can be world beaters, then its still all roses. :p017:

See if he has time to answer you, between his face lifting appointments, his hair implant appointments, those mani/pedi appointments, and last, (and maybe least for him at any rate) seeking re-election in the pending polls.
Or you could start, what, 11 threads, each on a different player, explaining why he should come to Milan, who he should replace, what his salary package should be, and the duration of his contract.
Or you could be positive, and hope for the best for the club, with the players and the coach that we currently have (as far as Carlo goes, I would be surprised if he lasts till June, but in the absence of a suitable replacement, he wont be fired).

But who the hell are talking about our private lives here?!? Of course that we can be perfectly happy or not on our private lives despite what happens with Milan, that' s something so plainly obvius that it need not be said. We are talking here ONLY about Milan, for Chrit's sake!

Well, Well, Well... what the 'everybody is fine / nothing is wrong / we are unbeatable' folks are going to say to us now?!?!?
stop playing god and dividing the forum into two fractions. Those people you are talking about exist only in your wicked imagination. The only time I remebre someone saying that we are well put as we are, was in one single post by Giovanni, I think but could well be wrong, and that was more of an attempt by him to raise the spirit rather anything else.
Stop imagining "those people" for they simply don't exist, at least not in the real world. Can't say the same about yours, though. :dconf:
Agree with Zlatanov (Gre-no-li could see this coming from a mile away)...
we have been thru worse... it is a defeat, I don't like it, it hurts, I don't feel well about this... but we will be back...

I think there are people that never say Black or White, they dont give you a Yes or No. GRE-NO-LI, whether you like him or hate him, always gives that black or white, yes or no opinion. I remember reading people saying Vieri was very good and better than Crespo, and now they dont admit they were flat out wrong.
Im not a big fan of those who always see the darker picture, the negative side, but I think i hate even more those who always say "Everything is fine" when its clear there are some (minor or major) problems.
And regarding Ancelotti, well, he is as good as gone unless Milan somehow wins the UEFA Champions League. Even if we win it, Carlo would be smart enough to leave the club when on top.
let´s see what the baldy man (galliani) is going to say tomorow:
"come down, I understand the difficulties but the result was unfair...bla bla bla
we have faith in all the players and specially on Carlo...bla bla bla
the season is too long...bla bla bla
now we must think in the other competitions... bla bla bla..."
I´m tired of excuses...always the same words :(
let´s see what he´ll say after the game with FC Bayern
do you know what happened with Co Adriense? the coach of FC Porto?
after the game (Rio Ave FC 0 - FC Porto 0) he was truly vowed in the stadium by Porto supporters anh his car was damached during the night..
i´m not in favour of this but Carlo must do something, or else........ ;)
see ya
Of course, we will all support Milan tommorow and all together celebrate when we win someting big in near future, lets not fight now. Times are tough for Milan and we donrt play well. We have some finished players, bad coach and Galliani isnt somehow doing his job properly. Things will get better, but right now - we simply look washed out. Now, for the rest of the month I'm going to watch Croatian handball team and hope we can win Euro 2006..... Forza Milan and lets all ( real milan fans )come back stronger and louder very soon!

Maybe because things are never only BLACK or only WHITE but grey with different amount of BLACK and WHITE in them.
Just in case someone is having a hard time figuring out what I meant by this - things are never simple but always complex and there is never one single reason for a failure or success but a complex knot of factors each giving its own contribution.
And this is not about liking or disliking Gre-No-Li, I judge posts, not people. Just because I disagreed with someone on a couple of occasions, that doesn't mean that I am always gonna do that whenever or whatever that particular person posts. Maybe with some people that's not the case but with me it is.

ANCELOTTI: 'Need to pay closer attention'
1/31/2006
PALERMO - Carlo Ancelotti’s comments after AC Milan’s elimination from the Italian Cup: ‘We went into a disadvantage much too soon and this complicated the game. This is a delicate moment that we must get over. We make mistakes and inevitably pay for them, then it is difficult to recover the games. I think Gilardino did well. He attacked and worked well with Kakà especially in the first half. We are out of the Italian Cup, now we need to pay closer attention because the Champions League is around the corner.’
ANCELOTTI: ‘Must get back to doing what we know’
2/1/2006
PALERMO - Carlo Ancelotti took a second look at the game and gave a more in depth interview: ‘We made inexplicable and costly mistakes. We started the game well when Kakà almost scored, then after Gonzalez’s goal we were no longer in the running because we didn’t have the lucidity to make a comeback. This is a delicate moment and we must restart from here, paying closer attention especially in the defence. The team was off balance and conceded too much on the counter-attack. They aren’t able to take a win if the match has already been complicated, but last year we won many games in the last minute because we believed in ourselves. Now I don’t see that same conviction. The solution is getting back to what we know. It is the team alone that can get us over this hump.’
Speaks for itself. Even Ancelotti feels he cant do anything any more.
GALLIANI: ‘Milan must react’
2/1/2006
PALERMO – Rossoneri chief executive Adriano Galliani spoke on the Milan Channel: ‘Milan must react to this situation. It is a difficult moment, but we will see how we can remedy these problems. We conceded a goal that could have easily been avoided, it’s always these midfield attackers that make things difficult for us. We will see what needs to be done. Right now we don’t have Paolo Maldini. There were four national side players in the defence this evening that should do better.’
Galliani has had all month, and has all the press calling for at least one fresh face in defence to boost some confidence. It's his job to make changes to make sure the team has everything they need.. I hope we find a remedy soon.
True that Maldini is a great leader and there has never been one like him- BUT, how can Milan be considered a great team if we rely only on Maldini? When was the last time a team like Milan relied so much on one player?
Is Galliani assuming because our defenders are national side players, they will automatically perform well and keep clean sheets? I certainly hope not.
Maybe because things are never only BLACK or only WHITE but grey with different amount of BLACK and WHITE in them.
Man, how are you two pushing my nerves today ;)
There is only black and red!
and i dont wanna hear black&white again for at least a week. Or maybe today, if Roma do me a favour...
peters, well said... haha

Some people seem really optimistic here...I wish I could be like that. After such a shame i am not sure they can present something good in Champions League... :3band:
when I realized that we couldn't get it back, I kind of wished that Palermo could score one more. Don't get wrong, I love Milan very much. But every time we lost 0-4, we would bounce back and play fantastically for at least one month or two.

I know what is the reason for that. After 4:0 Ancelotti gave them a really taugh week with shouting and training from early morning to evening...:))) I would do, really! :5dito:

That's really pathetic, I agree with you. Sure that Maldini is a player of genius, bu he's no superman, he can't play for eleven!

Not always. There is no grey with Vieri, not when he signed with us, not during his tenure with Milan, never.
Same applies to other things.
And you are not a better fan for saying everytime "everything is going to be alright" or "Galliani is a genius, he cant do no wrong", etc, etc. And this is not related to you, Zlatanov. But It sure looks like that on this board.

heres where ur wrong... its WRONG to have either a yes or a no person... its not IMO that its wrong.. its a fact that its wrong... u always have the people who are right in the middle but try to think positivly... i for one try to be like that because there is no use to stress urself out on something that has happened especially when u know theres absolutely nothing to do about it... why is it sooo hard for alot of people here to think positivly??? ... think positive and trust me ull lead a happier life...
just because im telling grenoli to shut the hell up doesnt mean im with his imaginary 'everything is ok' people... yes im mad... but what use is it for me to be mad?? ...infact there are more disadvantages of me being mad than advantages, infact, there are no advantages at all... all i do is ruin my day... great... then what?!?!
grenoli, do me a favour and stop ur stop division of MM members and grow up for humanity's sake!
and for the record, i admit vieri was a bad signing, but what use would it have been to cry about it while he was with us?? ... why not just hope for the best??? and if hes no longer associated with us, u can talk all that crap about him as much as u want.

HAHAHAA!! LOL!! Man, I wish they DID use the 8ball this season. Things probably would have turned out better.
Yeah yeah. I know, just a cup loss, no big deal - but it's always tough to see em lose. Sigh... I'm just hoping for success in CL and that Milan at least finishes 2nd in Serie A. Don't want to be behind Inter.

']Not always. There is no grey with Vieri, not when he signed with us, not during his tenure with Milan, never.
Gilattack, only if life was so simple that we could brand things as black or white, beatiful or ugly, right or wrong, up or down .. but it's not for the truth is always somewhere in the middle i.e. grey.
Even in your example with Vieri - if you just look at things on the surface, yeah it's easy to say that getting him in place of Crespo, a player who had already managed to successfully incorporate himself in the squad, was a big mistake.
Problem is, however, that things are not so simple in this case or any other. Chelski reportedly asked us to pay them ~11 mil euros for a 30yo player, and there were strong rumours that they wanted Milan to give them a freepass on Gilardino, as well. Now, if you were Galliani, would you have agreed on paying that much money and lose a 23 yo rising star for a player, who would have had 1 or maybe 2 more good seasons?
Also, the reason Milan is going through this difficult period is not because we got Vieri and gave up on Crespo. With or without Vieri, with or without Crespo, the team would have still had the current problems simply because the origins of our problems are not dependent one single player alone, actually, as far as I am concerned, they have nothing to do with the players. The only difference would have been that we would have paid 10-11 mil for Crespo, lose Gila as our finances would have been seriously cut short by the Crespo transfer and still have a difficult season, as opposed to getting Vieri for free but also being able to secure the services of young player like Gilardino, who's the future of Milan and Italian football in all. And Gila is having a pretty good season too keeping in mind all the difficulties our team is facing this year, as it is so much more difficult to show your real worth in a situation like this one when team spirit is down. I, for one, can't say that Sheva, for instance, is doing any better right now and the same goes for all our established stars like Nesta, Pirlo, and Kaka. All this makes Gila's task of finding his place in this team so much more difficult. In the end, however, I don't think that anyone should or can blame Galliani for opting for Gila over Crespo.
So, we are back from where we started - if only things in life were as simple as black and white.

i just watched the half high lights, first goal was class, the second goal both gattuso and stam should have came forward to tackle the guy (they stood there like headless chickens), nesta just got stuck there chasing back, from what i have seen jankuloski did a few good crosses into the box (he got one of the highest game ratings)
3rd goal was rubbish, wtf was simic doing, kalac didnt kno what to do either...
Palermo showed how old the squad was, and how it cant cope with speed.... im laughin at how bad the defense was....

Dont laugh...its time to cry if they dont improve...If it d be not Palermo - Milan that day, but Inter - Milan, the score would be 20:0???
am realy sad about the loss and hope that milan bounces back in UCL
And we should do well versus Lazio, and Carlo's days are over..
Any Way Forza Milan
Palermo won only 1 home game in Serie A in last 6 games....
I know that this was Cup game, but it's good known that Palermo don't play good at home, but it seems that they cant beat Cagliari or Siena, but they can beat us..
I can't wait end of this season, I just want to forget this season 2005/2006...
