View Full Version : Too many foreigners

I think AC should take care of local players, giving chance to yuongsters to try themselfs because the moment milan was greatest it was based on grown ups like baresi maldini costacurta albetini etc..., yes duch trio boban and others played great role, but I think the fundament of a team is a solid deffence, milan lately buys too many foreign players in deffence, now they say they gonna get Poulsen, my opinion is : leave this semi-stars play whenever they play now, use local talent, we need new Baresi-s here!

I do not believe that in Italy you can not find young talented players at least in deffence!

I see your point, and up to a point, I share... specially with the great Italian tradition of good defenders... but if you pay attention, it is all globalized...

Arsenal (England) is the base of the French national team...
Liverpool (England) of the Spanish national team...
Real Madrid (Spain), Milan (Italy) of the Brazilian national team... etc.

so you can't ignore that... plus, European Community free transit and employment...

I was so happy to see Milan buyin Gila and Bobo last summer that I thought italian Milan will regain it's face once again, however it seems I was a bit wrong :stress:

Oddo, I think is almost certain...

I like the notion but it's just not practical.

Of all the central defenders out there, a position we will certainly be filling this summer, how man italians are both transferable and good enough? The two Palermo guys, terlizzi and barzagli and possibly Bonera. that's 3 but in comparison to the foreigners Alex, Gallas, Chivu that are possible targets they really pale by comparison.

Look at us versus Bayern, I'd rather have Vogel in the team more than Gattuso right now.

I remember the days when Real Madrid and Barca where the base of the Spanish National team... and Milan, Juve, Inter of Italy...

the other day, Materazzi was the only Inter player, and he is a bench player there, and also in the Nazionale...

Milan has good italian players: Abbiati (when he returns), Pirlo, Gattuso, Nesta, Maldini, Ambrosini, Inzaghi, Gilardino... I think we only need to find a sub-Seedorf, or Sub-Kaka' who is Italian...

the romantic days of having mostly Italians in one squad are more or less over IMO. With the this whole EU integration it would be impossible for a team like Milan to remain competitive to others if we restrict our scope of transfer targets to Italian based players when there are forigners, who would fit better in the team - one example of that was mentioned above regarding CDs.
10 years ago people were still searched when crossing European borders, 10 years from now Europe would be like a European version of USA. This process of integration and globalization is inevitable as it seems right now, and football club's policies, along with everything and everyone else, will have to adapt to the change.

Milan have brought in young italian players like Pirlo, Rino, Gilardino and Ambro at young ages. They have become important to Milan.

We also invested in other young Italian player like Commandini, Pozzi, Donati, and Dallabona. Its not our fault if things dont work out and these players dont make the cut.

Apart from the younger player we have brought in Italians like Nesta and Inzaghi to team up with Maldini and Costacurta. Even some of the foreign players like Rui Costa and Cafu have been in Italy for years.

This Milan team has an Italian identity with a brazilian twist. BUT if positions do need to get filled, a players abilty must come before his passport.

IMO Barzagli is even better than those three lads you mentioned. Plus he is quite young and very mature to his age. Plus he is italian - maybe another Sandro, who is a God to italian milanisti who buy shorts and other accessory of our team. Never the less there are plenty of italian NT fans who would start support Milan more if we acquire more italian guys.

I was shocked when Real bought Cassano only for €4 mio :eekani: and Braida, Galliani & co. were scilent like a fish :dconf: Imagine, he is young, very very perspective and he could had formed an azzurri super duo in attack with Gila :mex: the other day, Materazzi was the only Inter player, and he is a bench player there, and also in the Nazionale...Their title reflects their preference ;)Milan has good italian players: Abbiati (when he returns), Pirlo, Gattuso, Nesta, Maldini, Ambrosini, Inzaghi, Gilardino... I think we only need to find a sub-Seedorf, or Sub-Kaka' who is Italian...If you mention San Paolo you should count San Billy too. Although they likely to finish careers soon :crybaby:

I do not like football as a business to much. I perfer football as a game! American example of porfessional sports is very repulsive to me :5milan:
We also invested in other young Italian player like Commandini, Pozzi, Donati, and Dallabona. Its not our fault if things dont work out and these players dont make the cut.Pozzi is still very young. And he is not too pricey IMO too. :rollani:This Milan team has an Italian identity with a brazilian twist. BUT if positions do need to get filled, a players abilty must come before his passport.Yup. I agree with you. Although IMO it's significant to choose an italian player than a foreigner if their abilities and price is almost equal.

I can not conceive why we did not paid attention to Toni, Esposito or even Cassano when we were lookin for a forward last summer and once again this january. Gila was the right choice, howver Amoruso isnt :rollani:

I did not mean that if some brasilian guy is better then italian milan should pick italian , but I think that there is much more sence to take perspective italian youngsters than not too big stars from abroad, in terms of cost/benefit ratio, thats my position.

I think every squad should take care of its identity, self-identity of its brand, if we look at it businesswise. if it will stay italian team it will have much more supporters in italy and abroad I think, I will give you an example of my country, I do not know any single person who became big fan of milan because Kaladze went to play there, but many people who like italian football in georgia are for milan because it is a team of baresi , maldini and others, and besides I am not against of foreign stars, of course without them you wil not achieve anything, if we get ronaldigno I will be very happy but I do not want this guys like gallas or chivu who are not so perfect lets admit, bring young players from Palermo, get 3 in price of gallas and one of them will surely became better then him , and you will still have 2 to resell again.

I do not know any single person who became big fan of milan because Kaladze went to play thereDo not agree with this one. IMO there are plenty of patriots in yer couttry so acquiring Kakha Milan got many georgian fans [though not all are true]. I maintain this cuz of my own experience when Edinbourgh Hearts signed some Lithuanian lads. Nevertheless this transfer [I mean Kakha's] did not affected us Lithuanians or any other nation in the world cuz we dont give a phuck about georgians too much [sorry nothin personal or racistic :pp18: ]. But if Milan signs any of italian starlets I bet many of world wide football audience will put a tic near Milan logo, which means that this club still has classic values and a sence of patriotism. These virtues are still alive all over the world and treated very respectfully... so IMO if there are two players of almost qual abilities it's better to sign italian one.
I dont agree and i think its a stupid ideea. And a kinda racist one.Yer attitude is pathetically postmodern :( It always see racism everywhere, even though there is nothing bound with it... :stupid:

cassano , marchionni
I am honetsly not sure why you even brought these two up - Marchionni is already Juve's who, as always, have secured his signature by going behind Parma's back. How else could explain that at the very moment when UEFA/FIFA transfer regulations allowed other clubs to get in contact with the free-agent-to-be, Juve announced that they had already reached an agreement. Same thing happened with Sagnol from Bayern.
As for Cassano, yeah we had a great chance to get him but in his case his attitude and lack of respect and discipline, and not his price, proved to be enough for Milan to not go for him. He does have a huge talent but a team like ours has just too much to lose in order to make a risky gamble on someone like him. Juve also didn't go for him, and that says it all.

about cassanos character I agree but I think he is very talented.
but my idea in general was thet talented italians are available, because your laconic question "for example" gave me impression that you do not see any in general

Of course there are some but as you see alone, the talanted ones aren't exactly a commodity - I wouldn't mind having Marchionni, cassano, Barzagli, or De Rossi at Milan but you know there are other teams out there and they also have their transfer targets and, in certain cases like Cassano's, it would be in the team's best interest not to have them at Milan. There is always the problem with availability(De Rossi) and availability at the right price (barzagli), as well.
My whole point was not that there aren't any talanted young Italian players out there but that they aren't as many as you would like them to be and it's impossible for the top Italian three - Milan, Juve, Inter - to build their success on italian players.

well I think at the end you came to the same conclusion, yes mioan got fans in georgia for kaladze but not real fans, not those who will get the shirt of kaladze instead of buying some other cloth, not those who spend sunday evening in sportbar watching milan matches with the heart ready to jump of, and yes I agree the classic values are still strong, traditions still play big role in peoples mindset so I think even if economical and political borders are extinguished and there is real globalization in this sence, poeple in most countires still have the understandings of patriotism, local belongigngs and so on so yes , milan will get much more loyal fans around the world if he signs more italians,

however I say again, if we will have to choose between di michele and ronaldigno I preffer the Brazilian:)), ..just to make clear my point.

IMO this Local Players/Foreign player idea is really pissing me off, yes it is good to have a local players in the team but not all the time.i prefer to play a someone based on his merit and his quality not based on his passports, and this idea of local players seems to be racist or xenophobic idea IMO
recently a lot of people including Alan Pardew(who is experiencing premiership season for the first time in his life) are coimng out to crtiticise Wenger for not playing british players which obviously sounds stupid to me, because aresenal has 2 England International Players(Ashley Cole-Best LB in England and Sol campbell) who are indispensable to Arsenal, but due to injuries wenger has to field better player who can cover their role. and they also have Kerrea Gilbert who has been impressive playing as a full back but he is out with injury, they have bought theo walcott for almost 12 Million pounds who happens to be 17 year old, so what else do you expect from Wenger?
To buy an overrated English Player for a ridiculous amount(e.g. Jeffers-10m,Crouch-7m,SWP-21m) :howler:
IMO if i am the Manger of a particular team i will only play you based on your Merit,Quality,Form and Experience not passports

What Pardew said had nothing to do with racism and xenophobia

It is a genuine concern that if no English players play at the highest level for English teams then they miss out on crucial experience. The pressure to succeed at the highest level of club football will make major teams go out and buy established players instead of bringing through young talent, like as happened in Scotland. If Milan and Juve followed Inters example and there were no Italian players at the top end of Serie A, it would hurt the national team, would it not?
That said, you are right that the Arsenal situation isnt as bad as it looks and that Cole and Campbell are both regulars when fit.

so what else do you expect from Wenger?
To buy an overrated English Player for a ridiculous amount(e.g. Jeffers-10m,Crouch-7m,SWP-21m)

Spurs are currently above Arsenal and they have got there by relying on those "overrated" young English players. look at what they paid for guys like Robinson, Dawson, King, Gardner, Carrick, Defoe, Routledge, Lennon, Huddlestone, Jenas.... £20m or thereabouts has got them a team full of England u-21s and full Internationals. Could Wenger not afford them? He wanted Jenas and Dawson when they were still at Forest and could have had them both for £5m....but he spent it on Cygan and Flamini instead :dielaugh:

IMO if i am the Manger of a particular team i will only play you based on your Merit,Quality,Form and Experience not passports

Which is fine, but Wenger has managed Arsenal for a decade now so the team he has available to him is one he is entirely responsible for assembling. The argument that he is only picking the best available to him doesnt work because he is the one who made them available to himself !

Hey Hottie I don`t understand why do you always call us Racists????? IMO it`s not racism it`s a right atitude! I agree to have European stars but also I`ll be happy to se some young and talanted Italians!

Agreed, the basic idea for wanting these youngsters is that it benefits the national side to have as many Italians at the top level gaining the highest experience available. If the best Italian players were at clubs like Palermo and Parma, gaining mid table finishes and never playing in Europe, whilst Milan and Juve were full of, for example, Brazilians, who were winning titles and playing in the CL it would be no surprise to see Brazil beating Italy comfortably on the international stage. It is not neccessarily the case that the Brazilians in this example are better players, it is just that major clubs would rather not risk a few lean seasons whilst they develop their own talent when they can buy it ready made from elsewhere.

If it is Xenophobic to worry about that then we may as well condemn International football as a xenophobic idea, afterall, nations are trying to beat each other ;)

I don't know what's the whole fuss about bringing more Italian players at Milan. Five of our "starters are Italian. Maldini, Nesta, Pirlo, Gattuso, Gilardino. Then we also have Inzaghi who has become somewhat of a starter as of late and Ambro who when fit starts plenty of games. That is half of our starting eleven guys. The rest of the starters are just top of their class that yes...you can find in Italy as well, but they belong to other teams and wont leave. That is why, if you want succsess you have to look elsewhere for world class. Look at the other top clubs in the world. It is the same thing. Some players of their own country and the rest is just top class from all over. In fact, us and Juve are two of the few top clubs that have half of our starting teams Italian.
It is just the way it is. If you want to be the best in the world, then you have to get the best from the world. And like I said, yes, some of the best in the world are in Italy but some of them we have, and some of them belong to other teams.

i think were perfectly fine the way we are... if a foreign player is better than an italian one then we should definatly look to purchase them, we should always aim for the better, i couldnt care less if hes an alien as long as he helps milan become better im happy... though inter's case crosses the line... there should be atleast 3 or 4 on the field IMO

i agree that player's quality is more important than where he is from. However, i am a great believer in our beautiful tradition in maintaining some percentage of local players and at the same time keep pace with globalisation. in my opinion we must apply local players to foreigners' ratio to 60%:40%. the great source to fill that 60% is most likely the defenders and GK, since there are more talented italian defenders and GK than italian midfielders or attackers.
at the moment i think our ratio of local:foreigner is about 45%:55%.
also i think locals tend to be more loyal and passionate.
