we got Lyon in the next round? and Barca maybe in the semis... what are peoples thoughts? at least we have not got Inter or juve...

I think it's a good draw. Especially as we play away first, we have won the majority of ties that way.

Of course though, if we qualify, we must play barca at home first and I think that will be tough. Barca have only lost once or twice in the nou camp this season, and not at all in CL, it's an intimidating place to play. That said, I doubt we'd go to Barca too relaxed even with a 5-0 lead, so maybe for once if we go out it won't be because we've thrown the tie away.

anyway though, we have a game against a very serious Lyon side, we should beat them but only once we do should we worry about the semis.

I wish Inter had of drawn Juve in the QF, I dunno who will be in the final from that half but it will likely be an italian team. I don't want any italian teams in the final other than us.

Well Lyon were my worst nightmare at this stage, but we have to beat the best and yes I do think they are the best not Barca. If we do get through though, there is no guarantee it will be Barca.

Our path is very complicated with Lyon, Milan and Barca all being extremely dangerous and capable of winning it.

On the other side, I dont think Arsenal will be able to beat a well ballanced European side. Villareal are ok, but thats it. Juve are a well ballanced team, but I dont think they have the creativity to go allt the way. For me, Inter will get to the final easily. BUT first they have to get to the quaters, so lets hope they get distracted :tired: :pp20:

Does anyone watch much of Lyon, from what Iv seen they are free scoring and solid at the back. Its gona be one hell of a tie,oh and Junihio is suspended for the first leg :5ok: We will get a close look at their players too, maybe a couple contracts signed once we knock them out :respect:

Well, I agree with K77 about Lyon being the best of the rest and not barca or juve. Juve IMO are a very solid team but simply lack creativity and tactical/gameplan flexibility but with a young and inexperienced Arsenal side that lacks solidity and has been struggling to find their old form this season, and an underachieving Inter side that will poop their pants at the sight of Juve or Milan alone, I would expect Juve to reach the final. The only way for them not to make it there is if Arsenal pulls off a miracle, should Juve get past Arsenal, they are sure of the final IMO.
Barca, on the other hand, are great going forward but lack solidity and organization at the back and can be picked off very easily by a counterattacking team like Milan. Barca are many people's favourites to win the CL this year but I personally would be a little surprised to seem them even reach the final of the competition.
Now Lyon is a different story - I think they are something of a mix between Juve and Barca - solid like the italians and creative like the cataluns. They have the best from both worlds IMO and are the team that best resembles Milan from all other teams in the CL. T%hat's why I think these would be two very close encounters with Milan having a slight edge experiencewise but that's about it.
I guess we could use these two games with Lyon to also have a closer look at some interesting players they have - Cris, Diarra, Malouda, JP, Reveilliere/Clerc - this last one is a RB and came in Reveilliere's place when he got injured. Clerc has been very, very impressive since he got that chance to shine and he is also 22-23 yo i.e. a good 5 years younger than Reveilliere.

We had an indeed competitive group stage, we then were drawn to one of the hottest teams in Europe (Bayern), only to grab one of the two teams we wanted the least with the 2nd one eventually to be found in the semis and least but not last, should we be able to achieve this much, we'll probably face either an Italian team.

All this whilst Juve face a declining Arsenal team and Inter a team that was rated at over 150/1 as CL winners back in September (Villareal). As usual, we were blissed with the unluckiest of draws

Its non that bad that we are playing Lyon in quaters, im just sad we are going to play Barca in the semis and not in the final.... Juninho will not play in the first leg and that will be MAYOR blow for Lyon. No dangerous free micks, crosses,corners.... We can get a good result out of first game and proceed,im sure of that. AND, we can have a lots of meetings about Diarra with Lyon managment, and this raises our chances for signing him. good draw for quaters, horrible for semis....specially that we play 2nd leg away at Nou Camp.

we shall see soon enough if facing Juve would have been preferable.

I've thought about this draw and the more I think about it the more it sucks. I agree with K77SH in that Inter will probably make the final. this shows what a good draw they have as they are probably the 4th or 5th strongest team left in the competition, it's just that I think they will manage to beat Juve, who are probably more likely to win overall but I just feel that Inter owe them a beating, and the tie is setup so that they get to play away first and then rain down all that anger in the 2nd leg.

I think, to be honest, that we have a very uphill struggle. Certainly should we get to the final we will deserve it more than anyother team having to beat really strong sides from so many different leagues. If Juve make it to the final that would mean to win we have had to finish above the best teams in holland and turkey in the groups, then beat the best teams in germany, france, spain and italy in the knockout.

Darn it, darn it, darn it. :irritate:...of all the draws....I couldnt believe the title of the thread, as I was away from the net all morning, so didnt get the news till just now..so...this post may be a little over emotional..but...darn! :moan:

Ok, so we play one of the top teams in the competition, and somehow, I am not really surprised, as my pragmatic side always thought that this, being one of the worst options, would be the one that we would get...(Mr Pragmatic also predicted the Bayern Munich game as well) :sigh:...

But, on the bright side...win, lose (no draw) we get a serious chance to broker discussions with the players we need to poach from the French champions. If Braida cant snatch one of the them, then he needs to be replaced.

Ok, so that being said, I do hope we win, and if read correctly, and that we do play at home first, then this is a good set up for us, likewise the clash vs the Spanish champions...now let me tell you, this has me a little ticked off...like fate is toying with my ulcer or something..

But, at the end of the day, reaching the final after beating all these teams will have the opponents already half way defeated, well, u kno, mentally... :987: but it will be a titanic tussle, :swars: that may well cost us the scudetto..as we will have to rest key players for these big guns. :dumpf:

 And best of all, :firedev: somehow, someway, I know we can beat these teams, we can beat anybody if we play like we did vs Bayern... and we are developing more consistency in terms of generating these performances...so, as always.........

:firedev:FORZA MIIIIIIIIIIIIIILAN!!:firedev: Lets crush the French and Spanish Champions, :rocky: and then take the UCL title in Paris!:firedev:

at first we must think about Lyon and then Barcelona...for sure, we didn´t have any luck in the draw, but we are capable to face anyone if the team continues with this football and high morale.
now we can see the 4 players ACM wants for next season playing against us ( Reveillere, Cris, Diarra, and Fred)
Lyon is a excellent team with accustomed players in playing CL and most play together at very long time.
but i think it is more difficult for them that really is to us...
Bayern, Lyon, Barça and Juve?!

Ahh, just what I needed to hear from Seedorf, from channel4.com:

“Lyon have done very well up until now but, with all due respect for the other remaining teams, Milan have every opportunity of continuing their progress,” said Clarence Seedorf. “The Frenchmen have been playing together for a long time and are solid, but we have a lot of experience at this level, quality and the desire to repeat our fine performance against Bayern Munich. We have no reason to fear anyone.”

We will defeat these teams....... :fero:

I introduce myself, I am a french supporter of Milano but I am also a fan of LYON, cause' I'm Lyonnais. Milan is the strongest team (but not the first...) in Italy and Lyon is the strongest and first french team. It's a good draw for both teams because they are best scorers in the UEFA champions league and we should see goals!! I hope that I will be at San Siro for the return match and that the stadium will be full with a great and friendly atmosphere!!

Jim_UK
10-03-2006, 18:23
They have pace throughout the team, which is something we will have to be wary of. Malouda and Govou out wide, Fred up front, Reveillere and Abidal at full-backs, we need to be very watchful. Even Juninho and Carew are pretty quick at times. Carew started the season on fire, i'm not sure how he's doing now, but his strength and obviously his height will be something we will have to guard against.

I'm very tempted to go to the Lyon game, i just need to know where to get tickets :D

Let's be a bit more realistic - we have to respect Lyon but fear them would be suicidal. Why do you guys forget that we are the team to beat here, we are Milan and if someone has to tremble, that's the other side. Let's not forget also that we just got rid of one of the most solid teams in Europe and if they looked like second grade pupils it was only becuase we made them look like that. I for one am pretty sure that should Bayern and Lyon have met in the CL, with all due respect to Lyon, the Bavarians would have never left even the slightest doubt who the winner would have been.
Don't get me wrong, if we underestimate Lyon, that would be it for us but to fear them and feel sorry for not playing Juve or Inter instead of them, that's just ridiculous.

10-03-2006, 19:12
You guys are too afraid of Lyon for some reason. The only thing that I cant stop thinking of is that we will play the 2nd leg of the semi-final at Nou Camp :(. That is the biggest blow of the draw today, and nothing else.

Lyon? Im pretty sure this Roma side would be able to beat them. Have some faith guys.

Don't take Lyon as the team that we can't win! If we keep this form that the team has I think Lyon can be beaten...All we need is a draw in Lyon and away Lyon plays very weak so in San Siro they will experience what Bayern went through...

Juninho will be out for the first game and that to Lyon is a big blow it is the same as if Kaka would have been out of the game for Milan!

For sure when the Lyon players realised that they got Milan for the Quarter, deep inside their hearts they felt dissapointed, at somepoint afraid :D .
Firstly, they are facing a team which have been regularly in the quarter spots in the last four years. That means they are up against a very experience side who has an advantages against them.
Secondly, beating a giant team like bayern is a no easy feat for any team, and right now unfortunately they got that team called AC MILAN. The team is hitting the right form at right time and will destroy any team with that form, even barca won't be spared.
Thirdly, they are not just facing Milan but thee onslaught of the most fearsome firepower of kaka, sheva, gila/pippo. Currently sheva is the leading goalscorer in the CL and he is hungry for more. with due respect for Lyon with their free flowing football and scoring, they have to realised that they are facing AC MILAN. They can only beat Milan if they do like what marsielle did :rollani:.......

Lastly, let's not fear them but let them fear us. At the moment our confidence is sky high and Champions League is where Milan belongs.

Great. We got the draw none of us wanted. And no Barca in the finals. But at least we don't have to play Lyon in the final(which is in Paris). Well, we just gotta do what we gotta do. For all you know, Barca might not even get through(though highly unlikely) I don't know who I want to play from the other four in the final, but I just hope we don't get Juve if we do get to the final. The thought of them taking revenge is too hard for me to bear. Though the thought of beating them twice is too good :). Anyways, like Seedorf said, we have never feared anyone and we have no reason to do so now.

Lyons is a great team with free scoring player all around from striker till midfield. But it fate n we need to be confident and sure we can get through like last 3 year. Lyons is in first time here but we have plenty of experince. They will struggle in San Siro but our record is not so good in France.

I predicted a game like last year when we meet PSV. we can qualify but maybe only with away goals.

Bythe way both team score a lot of goal n we need to depend on DIda n the defender to get the right result..

as far as i know lyon is a wealthy club that don't need to sell any of thier players

i would look at barzagli of palermo instead of cris, he's 23 y o, already italian international and would cost less than 15 millions. he'll be the heir of nesta in years to come

zlatanov
14-03-2006, 07:23
I agree on Barzagli over Cris but I think the Italian is 25 yo and his price shouldn't be more than 10 mil, in fact i remember the figure 7 being mentioned in reports of palermo's asking price for Barzagli but I don't remember if that was 7 mil euros or GB pounds.
Getting cris for such a high price would be insane. I wouldn't mind Diarra and Reveilliere/Clerc(soon to be a free agent), though. And if we kick Lyon out of the CL, they might have to sell a player or two to readjust the budget.

Well to me also lyon seems the worst choice , even worse than barca.
I think its a big plus for us that we play frist match away, and there is no juninio available, with our deffence performing well lately we can play on counter attaks where fast inzaghi kaka sheva trio can do the job, somebody wrote we can win only on away goals, I agree . so lets try to score there and not receive more than 2. may be sounds a bit pesimistic but I think if we leven loose 1-2 it will be a normal start.
I did not watch lyon a lot this year but from the figures I get this impression

It's great to read your posts. We've got far more respect from fans from abroad than we do in France.

As for Clerc, I don't think the board is willing to let him go and I think he will stay at the club with a new contract.

Also, we won't have to sell any players if we have to leave the CL sooner than expected. Lyon is not only wealthy, it is also very well managed and that makes the whole difference with the other french clubs.

If you go through this round, please make sure that Juve does not win the trophy in the end !

Now, Philip, explain to us why you think "Lyon was better".

Give us some facts...
Here are mine:
Shots 16-16
Shots on goal 6-4 in Milans favor
Corners 7 to 9
Possesion 58 to 42%

Lyon scored from a set-piece again...
had few chaces from our defenders mistakes
(Milan used it too - like the one Sheva used to humiliate you);
missed One or two headers (that Pippo did not miss).
There was also "Juninho combining with Govou down the right only for Nesta to block the Frenchman's cut-back" which I liked as a footballer, but the Govou shouldve done better...

Now, where exactly were you better and were you? I think Lyon has one of the best teams in Europe right now and you have just demostrated just that. One of ...

There is a saying that: "Fortune favours the brave", so indeed, we got some luck, but we deserved the luck, since we didnt let our heads drop when they equalised, we didnt fold when time was running out..we kept our heads, hearts, and belief alive, and triumphed.

All told, Lyon are a good team, but just lacked the creative spark that their Portugese playmaker could have provided in tandem with Juninho...

Tight match, but in the end, a deserved victory for a team that has a "never say die" attitude!

zlatanov
05-04-2006, 10:05
I would love someone to explain to me the whole concept of luck. I just don't get it why do we people always try to get easy route out and say "they were lucky" or something like that.
IMO, everyone creates his own luck, or at least when it comes to a game of soccer where everything is under your control, no devine interventions nothing like that. A player misses an open goal from 1 meter out, well get back to training and rather than roam night clubs and bars with half-naked chicks, spend you free time practicing. Someone scores from 40-50 meters, well good for him, he tried, he had the ability to do it and he did it.
My point is that our loss of the CL final last year had nothing to do with the lack of luck, we did it to ourselves by lacking concentration and precision on a number of occasions. Last night, our win had nothing to do with luck, we worked hard, never gave up and never stopped trying even when common sense said "that's it for you Milan, better luck next year". And for those who claim that Lyon deserved to go through, well, if they indeed did deserve it, they would have gone through and not Milan. Are Lyon in the semis, no, they are back home in France trying to figure out what has just hit them, hence, they did NOT deserve to be in the semis as they didn't work hard enough to get there. They did work hard, but not hard enough ... and that's just another way of saying that we create our own luck.

mk18
05-04-2006, 10:38
i think both teams deserve to be in the semi's... i think lyon actually did play better, but we really did use our few chances that came to us unfortunatly for lyon, in the last minutes, lyon stopped us alot, they won air battles, and they separated our midfield from our attack, but they didnt do it til the last second, and we made use of that, other teams get frustrated and just play poorly, we waited for those second, and u payed for it.

it will always be difficult for a foreign team to score against us at home! they got one and tried to contain us, but in the end little lack of concentration got them out of ucl!

Zlat,
I cannot agree with you more on this.
Same goes for the omens and the statistics of the past games -
If you do not create anything today, tomorrow you are history and the past will not affect anything at all.
