Milan strike Perea deal
By Francisco Acedo - Created on 13 Mar 2006

Spanish sources claim that Milan have struck a deal with Atletico Madrid for highly-rated Colombian Luis Amaranto Perea.

The 26-year-old has been linked Manchester United, Valencia and Internazionale in recent months - but Milan look to have won the race for his signature.

Caden Ser Radio has announced that a €7 million deal has been agreed between the two clubs.

Atletico are yet to confirm the deal, but it is also being suggested that Perea has also shaken hands on a four-year contract at The Giuseppe Meazza.

Atletico are already planning for the new season with Portuguese youngster Ze Castro on his way from Belenenses.

A promising sign... may many more follow...

looks like a solid defender from athletico, 26, a four year deal not bad at all. He is a right back with good pace, i think if this is true this could help out a lot.

Actually, I think he is a left CD, left footed, I believe. pretty solid defender and at the right age but IMO there are better choice out there - Gallas, Chivu, Alex, barzagli, and even Lugano.
Perea can also play left back - pretty much like Kakha. The Columbian is a pretty quick player, hard tackler, physically strong but not heavily built - physically reminds me of Nesta. Still, I would rather see us get 1-2 def of those I listed above.

he is actually centre back one of the few shining lights in athleticos season, he was actually linked with milan last november as well

I dont understand our plans for next season, maybe it good. Too many players are related with milan, and this one is on the bottom of my wish list.

too many rumours... some guys are just posting whatever the find on the internet...

Perea's main characteristic is speed... he won track and field tournaments (100 mts., 200 mts.) in Colombia, when younger... then he played for Boca Juniors...I don't remember if he got to play against Milan in the Intercontinental (Dec. 2003)... I think he did...

Nonethless, this development exceeds the prospect of signing Materazzi and Chimbonda, and even Cris. 26 is a reliable age for a defender, experience tells us this in the case of Nesta who was the same age when he joined Milan.

Personally I appreciate versatility in a stopper, an attribute which Perrea posseses. His ability to play at centre back or fullback is already evident in Milan, where Maldini,Stam and Kaladze display there multi-talents.

Having said this, I would consider the next step to be the signing of a rock-solid specialist centre back. Barzagli, anyone? Or Terlizzi? For this role, only an Italian will succeed. However, they tend to be in short supply, not only as specialist centre backs but as versatile defenders too. Therefore Chivu or Gallas must be signed. Despite both of them falling into the versatile defender compartment both are experienced and very tenacious. Gallas can engage himself across the whole back-line and is formidable in the air. Chivu wins the contest though. By playing in Serie A for almost four seasons, he's almost Italian in his defensive game. He matured before landing in Rome, as he was captain of Ajax up to the age of 22. And he can strike a great free-kick.

Chivu is a great defender. A definite world-class. I have seen a lot of Roma games of late however, and I must admit that Mexes looks better then Chivu right now. Considered by many as the flop of last season and in the beggining of this one.....the french defender is starting to look like he did in his days in France.
Don't make a mistake. I am not linking him to Milan as he hasn't been linked by anyone so far. However he might be the player that we might want to put on that wishlist that already has Barzagli,Terlizzi, Chivu, Gallas. I personally would go for the Italians before I go for anyone else.

Cadena Ser is a reliable source. Probably this is going to be unveil next summer.
Perea is a very very good player. A physical specimen with very good skills. I follow his career since he played for Boca Jrs and he always impressed me.
Sometimes, like he showed last clash against Real, he tends to be a bit too agressive and has lack of concentration, but playing alongside Nesta and Maldini he will learn his final lessons.
Anxiously waiting for the Mediaset-AS Roma deal that will provide us the missing piece: Christian Chivu. :p017:

so this is it then..this guy, and Chivu with a little help from Silvio and Mediaset deal. Oddo for RB and we are fine.

Perea is a very good player, which I admire since his seasons with Medellín and Boca Juniors. The versality is really his strong point, and I will certainly be glad if we pick someone like him, alongside players like Barzagli, Kompany, Vanden Borre or Oddo.

i reckon atletico still owes us some millions, they partly paid for their old debts, partly not. it could be a nice move to erase it

i don't know the player but if, for once, you all agree he's quality i should believe he's good enough

i dont know him alot but i would have rather seen us go for gallas whos free and very reliable and more agile and simply better... as well as alex from psv and oddo at RB

was this confirmed on the official website?

Perea is amazing, i remember him playing copa libertadores in south america first with independiente medellin, and later playing with boca against ac milan in the intercontinental and he was a rock, he erased sheva off the field.

Did you see his goal against Spurs

In the last minute just when a draw seemed certain he cut inside 2 defenders and unleashed an unstoppable rocket shot past Robinson.....not only can he play in every defensive role, he isnt a bad emergency striker either

all of the comments about from u guys for perea are positive, so this has to be one of great deal that milan stroke! ok gallas, alex are good, but they must be expensive, in my opinion the big money is only worth it for chivu!

lets say we got both perea and chivu, they are both left footed, so we have too many players that can play as left back and lack of quality cover for right back. nesta books one place in CB, kaladze is fantastic as CB and so is serginho as left back, also there is still maldini... maybe chivu could play as left midfielder!

mk18
15-03-2006, 07:39
rando, the point about gallas is that he is free... he can also play in all 3 positions at the back (RB, CB, LB) ... and stez just said he scored and amazing goal vs spurs... i dont know why he isnt signed already!

mrki
15-03-2006, 07:46
I dont think Gallas is free yet. I hink his last year needs to be bought out, it isnt mush aldough. And yes, he is superb player, can play RB,CB,LB. look at this.....gallas-nesta-kaladze-chivu......
huh!

i think he still has a year left...but he could leave for free... which seems to be the case since he doesnt want to stay at chelsea any longer

I agree, mk18, I also woul have rather see us go for Gallas. BTW, Perea is a good defender, but a little overrated. IMO he isn´t better than Gallas.
My best memorys of Perea, was in his time at Boca, but playing as a RB.
Oddo=free
Gallas=free
Alex will be a little expensive(10 or 15 M, IMO), but Milan will purchase the best 23yrs CB of the world. At 26years Alex price will be a fortune.

Firstly, I need clarification on whether Perrea is left-footed or right-footed.Secondly, we should sign an Italian youngster for the left-back role. Manuel Pasqual has won my admiration, plus half of his contract is owned by little-known Arezzo, (incidentally, which Juve made enquiries about, the buggers) Failing that, we should try for Giorgio Chiellini, who's 21/22 and solid in defence and an accomplished raider on the left or right flank. Juve have a vast number of options on the left-side this season, with Chiellini, Zambrotta, Balzaretti and Pessoto capable of playing. For right-back, lets opt for Clerc. Boy is he good. Picture next season's defence:

Pasqual/----Maldini/----Nesta/---Clerc/
Serginho----Kaladze----Perrea---Simic

GolTV's reporter informed, from Spain, during last night news that:

1.- Milan did make an offer for Perea. But A.Madrid wishes to keep him. (Maybe just to get more $$$)

2.- Rafael Marquez (Barcelona) did get big offer (double his current salary) from Chelsea, to replace Ricardo Carvalho... but Marquez doesn't want to go to England... his first option is to remain at Barcelona (he's about to obtain Spain's citizenship) or go to Italy, where Milan is interested in him.

BTW, Ballack's deal with Chelsea is a matter of days.

I have very good memories of Perea, he is a right CB, but i seen his best performances playing as a RB. Bianchi sent him to play in that position in Boca, and even thoug he didnt like it, he did it great. I think he reached his maximum level in the match vs Milan in the 2003 Intercontinental cup, but my best memory is from River-Boca in november 2003, when he played for the first time in that position, and he was a wall, nobody could get trough him. I think right now he is playing as a LB at the Aleti, so this shows he can adapt himself to any position of the defense.

I also saw Perea playing as a RB in Boca, pa7uel...and I agree, he was amzing in that position!! But as CB, IMO he´s only a good defender...

Yes, that's right, i think his better position is as a RB, but he was bought by Boca as a CB, and they have the option of make him play in that position to, when ever it takes it.

remember our technical staff, or Carletto to be specific, has done a great job of putting a player where he can do better...

look at 'the Pirlo' position... Kaladze now as CB... Maldini moved to CB after 18 years on the left... etc.

off topic:
I watched inter-ajax match and I saw two really interesting boys thats no2 trabelsi and no8 maduro a think that they have huge potencial!!!!!

but perea also good player I think that atletico play against villareal this weekende I will try to watch him again especially perea

Pirlo was first used as a deep lying playmaker by Carlo Mazzone at Brescia, when Baggio was the untouchable trequartista. Kaladze was bought to play CB and Maldini demonstrated his ability to play at CB in World Cup 94. I believe that crediting Ancelotti with converting them to a new position is going too far...

SANT
16-03-2006, 15:22
I didn't say that he invented them... I said he plays them where they do best...

and even then, why not recognize he has been able to move them around?

And now could say Serginho was bought to play LB, right?

For a long time Trabelsi was either injured or not playing well and subsequently didn't play, so that's great news he's getting back to his best form. Huntelaar is also quality, he'll be a great player in the next 2-3 years or so.

So what position is Perea playing at the moment for Atletico Madrid ? Maybe someone can keep an eye on him at the weekend and give a report on how well he plays.

Jim, Perea is playing as a CB since he came to Atletico...and IMO, he´s a good CB, nothing spetacular...I remeber Perea playing as a RB in Boca, and in that time he was amazing!!!

I asked a friend who knows a little about Athletico and he basically said that hes a physical specimin who wont let anyone past him, but for a centre back he may not be strong enough. As a right back, he would be fantastic and he wouldnt let anyone past him.
