We have forgotten about the serie A games... we're playing on Sunday at home against Chievo...

9 points behind Juve, with 18 points to be played...

2 points in front of Inter, in the race for 2nd place...

what do we expect the line up to be then Shevchenko, Kaka: anyone.

i think milan will field the 11 that play against lyon with pippo n stam out and gilardino and
costacurata or cafu. Maldini may start as well in Serginho place.

We can Still win as and As always FoRza MILan!

i think Maldini and cafu are sure starters as we will need them to gain match fitness for the derbi and the Barca games, especially with Stam's absence. Also Billy and Sergio are in dire need of a rest as they have been playing quite regularly recently.
I would expect to see Pirlo rested for the whole game, while Seedorf and Gattuso could see half a game each. Ambro and Vogel should play all of it IMO.
Up front it would be Sheva Gila with Rui starting and maybe Kaka on the bench. Or maybe we could play kaka as Rui has been kind of slow in his late outings.
I would expect to see something like:

Dida
Cafu Nesta Kakha Maldini
Ambro Vogel Seedorf/Janku (and 2nd half - Gattuso Vogel Ambro/Janku)
Rui (2nd half Kaka)
Sheva (2nd half Pippo) Gila

IMHO the squad or fornmatio against Chievo would be like this :

Dida / Kalac
Cafu Nesta Kaladze Maldini
Gattuso Pirlo Seedorf
Kaka
Gillardino Pippo

Rui may come in to sub Pirlo or Kaka
Vogel for Gattuso
Sheva for Pippo

But...whoever will play we have never been beaten by Chievo at San Siro.....

Shevchenko skips Chievo test Saturday 8 April, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andriy Shevchenko will not take part in Sunday’s encounter with Chievo, as the Milan medical staff advised a week of rest.

The Ukrainian hitman has been on blistering form this season and his goal against Lyon made him the most prolific Champions League scorer of all time, taking his tally to 52 goals including qualifiers.

“The medical staff advised Shevchenko to take a period of rest and an individual training schedule,” explained Coach Carlo Ancelotti in today’s Press conference.

Sheva has been struggling with a tendon problem throughout the campaign and it’s hoped this break will put him in top condition for the double whammy of the Milan derby on Good Friday and the Champions League semi-finals with Barcelona.

Curiously, the last time the Derby della Madonnina was played on a Friday was May 11, 2001 - when Milan ran out 6-0 winners.

“Pippo Inzaghi and Alberto Gilardino make a good pairing, as they cover the penalty area and are good in the air. Perhaps they lack the movement that Shevchenko provides, but they have always done well together.”

The injured Jaap Stam is also out of action, while Ancelotti has cast doubt on the full recovery of some of his other defenders.

“I don’t know if Paolo Maldini and Marcos Cafu will both be able to start against Chievo. Cafu isn’t 100 per cent fit yet.”

source: Channel4.com

So Sheva will be rested ahead of the derby+barca game...And from the looks of it Stam, Cafu and and Paolo wont start...so Billy is gonna start again...errr...would prefer Marzo!

Very good game by Milan today. Dida did ok, goal is not his fault. Nesta played BRILLIANT!!! beautifull goal also. Kaladze was also very good. Pirlo-seedorf -gattuso were good, and kaka was MAGICAL. Pirlo looked a little slow, he could be tired, its good that Vogel came in later on. Im little worried about Seedorf, he has played Lyon,Chievo and now he has Inter,Barca. Lets hope he can do it. Pippo anmd Gila were moving well, giving their all. Its nice to see some real spirit on the pitch, everyone was calm and donig what they need to do. CAFU is back!! He played for 80min if im right, and was a little reserved, but he looks good overall. He could be in good shape against Barca, we need him. No yellow cards, so everyone is on for Inter game on friday. We need to beat them and then rest for Barca, it will be a hell of a mission but we can do it.

Another good game for Amorso ... he does a good job at warming benches! Well, my point is that I'd like him to be given more of a chance, especially when we are winning comfortably - though I admit he hasn't been too impressive when I've seen him. However, we do have three other good strikers in the side. When we signed Amoroso, I thought (not seriously) we did so if we played Liverpool again, he can score against them - like in the world club championships.

BTW, I've posted match highlights in the multimedia forum.

Its fantastic to see Cafu back, Nesta scoring and Kaka scoring his first hatrick :D Im very concerned that Dida keeps making a mistake practically every game we play. :v46:

Its also a pity Gila and Pippo didnt convert any of their many chances.

Great result though!!

Great Nesta, he is standing out really especially after his goal. And what a goal!

Dida is also worrying me too.

devoted_dm
09-04-2006, 12:39
Dida's form is very worrying. At the moment he is nothing more than a decent goalkeeper, and that has been the situation this whole season.

But, what worries me more is that we always concede goals in set piece situations. So many examples of that this season. A few recent examples spring to mind: Bayern at home, Lyon at home and today (because it was a free kick struck into our box that lead to the goal, wasn't it?). We need to be a lot more aggressive in these situations, not to mention that we should abandon zonal defending on set pieces and use man marking.

K77SH C
09-04-2006, 12:47
Well if you watch the goals, then you will see that the defence is placed right in front of Dida. They need to step forward a few yards forcing the other team to also do so. Otherwise they would be offside. Dida has clearly been telling them to do so, but they dont seem to pay attention.

zlatanov
09-04-2006, 12:49
I am not sure if Dida made a mistake today - I recorded the game but have seen the first half + about half of the second - but if you are referring to the goal being his fault, I honetsly don't think that he could do much more than what he did. if there is someone to blame for it, I think it was cafu who couldn't cover Pellisier. After that, the shot was just too well placed, from a pretty close range, and the ball was way too fast for Dida to do anything but follow it into the net.
Pretty good game today, the result could have been 10-1 and not just 4. In the first hald we hit the post, and Gila, Pippo, and Seedorf missed several goals each. yet the result was 1-1. The second half, it was one way traffic most of the time, not that it was any different during the 1st but still we managed to score our chances.
Forza Milaaan !!!!!!

I honestly don't think Dida will be playing much for us next season. Either Abbiati is going to make a return, or the management will bring in someone new. Dida is just too unreliable.

At the moment I would not say that he is. Dida at his best is a much better keeper than Abbiati, but the Brazilian has been mediocre all season, and I think Abbiati would have been just as good, if not a little bit better.

I agree with this. I wouldn't feel safe with Christian at the back. best thing we could do for him is let him go to Roma and include him in a deal for either Chivu or Mancini, or both ;)
If Dida goes, it's either Frey or Amelia for me. Coupet has been massively impressive too. And that guy from Nantes, Landrau, is gonna be a free agent this summer. He is like 26-27 yo.

devoted_dm
09-04-2006, 13:43
Well don't get me wrong, it's not as if I desperately want Abbiati to play for us. I would prefer that we brought in a new goalkeeper, and from what I understand, Landreau would be a good option.
Just keep in mind, Abbiati has done great things for Milan in the past. He was the biggest reason why we won the league in 98/99, and he also saved our asses in the CL semi-final against Inter in 02/03. He's also had some good games for Juve this season, so he's definitely not a bad keeper.
It would, of course, be best if Dida returned to his old form. He used to be world class, after all.

Id quite like Amelia because hes so young, but who ever it is has to be strong at taking crosses which has been our weakness for the past few seasons.

I do hope Dida can sort himself out though.

I have to say that Pirlo alnog side Dida is the worst player right now for Milan. Gilardino is working very hard but no results, Seedorf plays good latly. No need to comment on Serginho, Kaka, Gattuso, Kakha. Cafu did not impres me at all today with his attacking ability, it looks like he lost that "running" thru the defence as he use to do. He did a decent job in the defence. Over all a very good preformance by Milan, we are shaky a bit in the back, but thats just how it is.

Cafu's last game for us was sometime in November, I think, what did you really expect to see after such a long break. it's a pitty we most probably won't be able to get him in full match fitness for the Barca games as he would know how to deal with Dinho on the right.
Still, we shouldn't forget these details when judging a player's perfomance. As for Gila, I think he played very well today and lacked only the goal in his game.
Btw, la Viola is having a meal with Juve at the delle Alpi - they missed a PK (yeah, a PK vs Juve was given), and could have scored at least 2 more goals from great, great chances but ... the result is still 0-0. Fiorentina is playing really, really well but the way things a re going, Juve will win either with a PK from nedved ;) or somehow scoring from their only attack in the second half.

In the end a 1-1 result was a fair one as both sides could have run away with the win. 7 is better than 9, so I would take it. With 5 games to go and Juve's run of poor form, nothing is over yet. Too bad they won't have to play CL games any more, though. That would have made catching up with them much, much easier.

This is the point where I am starting to think that the Lecce loss will come back to haunt us. Juve just tied, and we are now 7 points back. Had we won that game we would've been just 4 points behind Juventus. Our remaining schedule is:

April 14 vs. Inter
April 23 vs. Messina (away)
April 30 vs. Livorno (home)
May 7 vs. Parma (away)
May 14 vs. Roma (home)

Juve's remaining schedule is:

April 15 vs. Cagliari (away)
April 23 vs. Lazio (home)
April 30 vs. Siena (away)
May 7 vs. Palermo (home)
May 14 vs. Reggina (away)

Other than Inter and Roma, I think that our Serie A chedule is fairly easy from this point, and I am confident we can defeat both teams. I know that we also have the Champions League to deal with (hopefully until May 17 in Paris), but I still believe that had we not lost that game to Lecce we would have been very much in contention for the Scudetto.

Yes, Juve's schedule is fairly light, and they don't have the Champions League. But considering their form lately would it surprise you if they drew 2 of their remaining matches? 2 draws for them and all victories for us and we are tied at the top. But that Lecce defeat just ruins this whole scenario, 7 points is just too much at this point IMO. Yes, hope is not yet lost, but for me it is greatly reduced :(

The reason I am picking on that one match is because I thought we played relatively well. It was not like one of those atrocious performances in around January when our play made me want to throw up. That is why for me that one loss was more heartbreaking than anything since Istanbul. :broken:

But, I guess no reason to dwell on past defeats, right? We have the Champions League to look forward to, unlike Juve :) I just thought I'd share with you some of my thoughts on our Scudetto chances.

P.S. Great match today. Kaka=Incredible :proud:
Mostly everyone played well, Cafu had a good return from injury. But Pirlo's play still concerns me, we can not have him playing like this vs. Barca.

that's just too many IFs nad IF_NOTs. Lets just focus on the task at hand, take it game by game till the end and see what comes out of it. Juve have been poor for some time now but today they looked good in 2nd half vs Viola and probably from next game will have a strong finish of the season. Their elimination from the CL is a GREAT plus for them in the race for the title, especially now when all teams are more or less exhausted. Plus, I doubt that Moggi will let Juve miss on a sure title like this one, you know the Moggi-refs relations.
To tell you the truth, I have lost almost all interest in winning the scudetto given all the under-the-table techniques we have witnessed over the past years. As long as we qualify for the CL, it's all good for me and don't treat the scudetto as something special anymore - if we get it, good, if not, so what.
The CL is where the true value of a team can be seen, IMO that is.

well, the abbiati i seen in the 98/99, 99/00, 00/01 is godly and is one of the god damn reason our team is anywhere near the top. the only reason he lose his place to dida is due to injuries and dida has been playing well since then. Abbiati have not played often and lose his touch.

Abbiati IMO is definitely one of the best keeper in the world when at his best. FYI, his reflex saves is second to none. YES, second to none, 1-1, penalties, these situations are easy for a top form abbiati. If abbiati played as badly for juve as you said, i wonder why their best defensive record came during that time since it seem like he couldn't make a decent save as you make him out to be.

Make no mistakes, Dida have been great for us for the best few years but he is making frequent errors for the past 12 months. The Dida that played against Leeds is slowly but surely returning. I would give Abbiati a last chance to prove that he can regain his old form before going for other options. Frey is a very very good option and i am still wondering why nobody make a approach. i would be a happy man if frey join us.

You also have to take into account that 2 of the 5 teams that Juve will face are into relegation zone and that they will struggle like mad just to stay in Serie A.(in addition to Juve`s poor form and their own supporters turning back on them) They are ,so to say,`smaller` teams, but Juve`s playing those games away and those `smaller` teams are going to have a heck of a lot support, believe me.Not to mention that they still have to play Lazio and Palermo.I expect quite an interesting outcome to be honest.(at least i`m praying for an `interesting` outcome :bri: )

First of all, imposibille is nothing, but Juve playing this bad until the end is next to imposibille.
They had 3 draws in a row, but if you see when did they fail, you'll see that all their matches were before or after CL matches. Roma was just before 1st leg in London, Treviso ( no excuse for them , though) was after Arsenal in London and before Arsenal in Torino, and Fiorentina is right after Arsenal.
Now they will have 1 week rest before every match.

But still, if we are optimistic, then there really is a small chance for us. Cagliari away will be very very tough for them. Cagliari is only 2 points above relegation zone, and will give a hell of a fight. And they do have few players that can hurt Juve's out of form and condition defense. Also, Thuram won't play against Cagliari, but Cannavaro is back. So --- lets say Juve will lose 2 points here.

Then Lazio in Torino. Lazio has a good team in good form. Lazio is no. 1 favourite for 6th, Uefa Cup place, and will concider this match as the most important match of the season. With Juve's bad tradition against Lazio, i believe Juve can lose 2 points here also.

Then Siena away ---- the most important thing here is how will Siena stand on the table. If Siena is in safe zone allready, then Juve wins for sure. Great relationship between the clubs, many Juve players are on loan in Siena, and because of that i think, no matter what, Juve will win this match.

Palermo in Torino may be "the match" for us. If Palermo plays the Coppa Italia final against Inter, then they will have no motivation at all. But if they lose against Roma on Wednesday, and if they fight for the 6th place in Serie A, then everything can happen and Palermo may even take 2 points from Juve.

It means Juve will may lose 6 points before the last match away to Reggina. Again, Reggina's league position may become the most important thing for the final result. If they are save, then....bye bye scudetto for us.

As you can see, our chances are minimal. Not to mention that we'll have to beat everybody. Starting from Inter match ( just before Barcelona) continuing with Messina ( we'll play with second team because this match is just before Barcelona away, and Messina desperately needs 3 points from this match)
Livorno in Milano should be easily beaten, Parma away is tricky but could be won and last round is against Roma that will probably play for the CL spot and this match will come 4-5 days before the final in Paris ( hope we'll be there)

Impossibile is nothing as i said, but if we are realistic, it will be the toughest thing in the world ( mixed with a looooot of luck) to get the Scudetto . Still, it's not a bad thing to hope.

Kaladze had a great game, and was man of the match in my book. I would be encouraged to see Kaladze remain at centre back throughout the season. For the sake of continuity, and give the guy his props, he is playing real well.

Forza Milan

Just to clear things up, that was exactly what i meant when i said that i expect an interesting outcome.:) I didn`t necessarilly mean winning Scudetto but more like proving once again that this Milan team can go so faaaaar at both competitions in comparison to Juve(which will certainly have some difficulties in the upcoming 5 matches). I also agree that nothing is impossible and i`m not being overly optimistic, but this is how things look like at the moment: we `ve set such a high pace and they can`t exactly follow up...that`s something that maybe could cost them a title...
Unlikely? yes; Possible?also yes ;)
Of course, it goes without saying that our priority now should be to reach CL finals and keep the 2nd place in the championship, and if a stroke of luck strikes us,.....well no one will really be bothered by it, i guess. :3band:

How ofter does Dida spill or push the ball into the danger zone (in front of the goal) nowaday and how ofter he come out but do not get to the ball. Dida was not that ready when the Chievo player stroke the goal, not the best goal keeper in that situation. He may commit a fatal mistake in the CL games to come, I feel better to play the Australian.

Pirlo show was very worrying considering he will be used in the Inter and Barca game in the next 10 days (no rest).

Seedorf and Serginho definitely need some rest.

Let hope that in the inter game we will be 2-0 at halftime so the team can rest on the pitch in the second half with 4-5-1 formation.

well, the abbiati i seen in the 98/99, 99/00, 00/01 is godly and is one of the god damn reason our team is anywhere near the top. the only reason he lose his place to dida is due to injuries and dida has been playing well since then. Abbiati have not played often and lose his touch.

Abbiati IMO is definitely one of the best keeper in the world when at his best. FYI, his reflex saves is second to none.

Abbiati was really good in 98/99, except for that he have been average and far from the other top keepers in serie A. I have no idea how you can come to the conclusion he is in any way a reason why we are a top team now. with Abbiati in goal freekicks always felt like penalties, he had some amazing ability in letting in direct freekicks. I would also say his reflexes is not as good as Dida. Dida's problem is mental.

Our first half in this game wasn't that good and in particular it was our defense that had problems. Pirlo and Nesta both lost the ball in some crucial moments, we looked unconcentrated and unorganised. that positive was that our offense looked good, several nice combos and Gila had several opportunities to bury it. Seedorf looked like an "hit and miss" as he had many great actions and sometimes some passes that made me think "what!?". Their goal came from what is a systomatic problem for us, a dead ball situation and other players forgetting that marking is part of the game, Serginho and Cafu the culprits.

the second half begun in a way that made we really worried as we had problems keeping the ball and Chievo looked dangerous. but after a couple of minutes we took over and we did that completly. When the goals came it was logical and welldeserved and most players had stepped up a notch and played much better.

Dida 5.5. Shaky. The rebound on what was not that hard shot could have costed us greatly. he didn't shine with confidence. As also was shown in what could have been a debacle with Kaladze...

Cafu 6. Got in a couple of crosses and was not tested in defense. Could have done better on their goal, but it was more the fault of Serginho.

Nesta 7. Impeccable. while he lost the ball twice in bad moments his defending was top notch and he scored with a beautiful shot.

Kaladze 6. Had some problems in the first half and his miscommunication with Dida could have come with a great price. but he stepped up well in the second half of the game and had some great tackles that sent the Chievo players flying.

Serginho 6. Had clear problems in defense as Semioli was their danger man. he made that up with good offensive work and what should/could have been two assists to Kaka.

Gattuso 6. Did some good work especially in the first half when we had problems. Vanished in the second half and I sometimes even wondered if he played.

Pirlo 5.5. While his defending worked well he looked slow on the ball and lost it twice when he most clearly should not have done that. his distribution seemed under par until we scored the second goal at which point he seemed to get some confidence and put away some of these nice passes none other in our team can do.

Seedorf 6.5. Was a bright light in the first half, even if he spread some passes out to noone. Nice dribbles, kept possession (mostly) and ncie combinations on our left. had a great shot too. Faded a bit in the second where....

Kaka 8. Was the star. He scored a hat trick, but could very well had 5 goals as Serginho served him with two chances he really should have buried. He did some nice things in the first half, but in the second he did the important stuff, like scoring a hattrick :D

Inzaghi 6. Worked well, was more involved in gameplay than normal, but didn't really get to chances. Was involved in two of the goals though.

Gila 6.5. He came up to the finishes, especially in the first half. He was also involved in several nice combinations with Seedorf and before the second goal. Had problems getting to these crucial finishing moments though, just like luck isn't on his side.

A very good game by Milan, especially in the 2nd half.

kris has already done a player review, and since I agree with most, I wont put mine up (just being lazy I suppose)...I do however think Cafu, who was really responsible for the goal (despite Serghino not fighting for the header), since he allowed the Chievo player to shoot, and should have blocked the shot, or gotten to the ball before the attacker did...it wasnt Dida´s fault...any keeper in the world would have had it hard to stop that shot...

All in all, we recovered well, and Kaka deservedly got his hattrick..

Rui, though only on for a short time, was EXCELLENT...he made 2 Chievo players look like total idiots, only for (Kaka?) someone to miss the final ball...

I like how we looked with the X-mas tree, and this could be a prelude for Barca...though I think we (as per Berlu) will have to start with 2 strikers...but oh how I would love to see Rui take the Barca defense apart!

FORZA MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILAN!!

I am really happy for Nesta's goal... he was so surprised he didn't even know how to celebrate it... hehe...

Pippo wasn't as brilliant as the other day against O. Lyonnais, but he had a great game, always fighting, always covering the ball, he tried hard...

and can't overlook Gilardino's performance... he didn't score this time, but his header in the first half could have been a great goal... strikers are like that, when they're on a roll, the ball hits the post and then goes in... when they're not, it hits the post, and simply bounces off to the keepers hand... his goals will come... hopefully to put us in the UCL final... or to give us the trophy...

Whos got time for gripes?? Dont be so emotional. My point was how could you criticise anyone for not posting in the match thread when your only post was the actual criticism and nothing at all about the match. But hey if I offended you so much then I apologise, but cut the gripe stuff :27rr:

Well you better get used to it then. Why do I gripe??? First of all... when people quit making their nasty posts because one of our players or our coach makes a mistake on a game, then I'll gladly shut the hell up and leave you in peace. I'll do some nagging cause of a bad result, but you will never read any of my posts like the following quotes pal . You know the ones... the "Carlo Sucks", "Pippo's career is finished", "Let's get rid of Dida NOW!", and whatever the frig. Now are those acceptible comments??? When it stops, I will keep my griping about members who post this daily cr@p til no end. Strange you note what I'm saying yet ignore the posters and posts full of vitriolic and idiotic comments about the team THEY SUPPOSEDLY LOVE. You want to get involved... try backing me up then! I dont see you trying to advise people to refrain from making these kinds of posts??? NO you're too worried about me.

One thing I learned a long time ago is people are generally stupid. They are going to say all things they say whatever you or I say. Its just the way it is.

If a dog barks at you in the street, would you bark back? Nope, so let them exist in their own little world and be safe in the knowedge that they arent in charge of Milan and in no way influence any official decisions.
