View Full Version : Time dosent forgive no one
First of all i have alot of respect for maldini ,billy and cafu. But as the title says time dosent forgive no one and u can clearly see that there performance are not consistent true the game.
Il start whit our captan:
In my opinion the only thing that maldini gives us this days is morale, when he comes on the pich ,or when atacker is one one whit him only by his name he can make the atacker feet melt down...but in recent times that seems to be not enought any more ,he lacks speed and againts a team like barcelona were gonna pay big time cause etto, ronnie or messi or deco are capable of beating maldini one one .
Billy: time got him his perfomances are even more worse then of il capitano ,he dosent have the speed ,the tehnique any more to face some world class atackers.
Cafu: lacks clearly of speed but his tehnique is still outstanding,in my opinion is that he plays better the maldini&billy at the moment but his not good any more...
I realy do hope there gonna last againts barcelona and what ever team were gonna meet in the finals, and if were gonna win the cl this year i hope there gonna retire in all there glory like they deserve to.
But what i said above is kinda optimistic if u think of it and if were gonna get knock out by barcelona i hope there gonna realise its time to put does buts in the closset.
I dunno i guess im just a litle afraid of whats gonna happen to milan in the future...

P.s: srry for grammar errors.
I see your point but I beg to differ.
Even if MORALE was the ONLY thing Maldini gives us, do you think it`s irrelevant, insignificant, trivial? Mind you, he`s been away for several months, and before that not once did he underperform.I also reckon that he has got the necessary speed to confront Barcelona`s forwards, not to mention his perfect timing and his marking. Furthermore, the pressure in that game will be on centre backs who will probably be Nesta and Kaladze, in which case Maldini will play LB.(just guessing though)
Billy at 40 is still better than most of 23 year olds, i was fascinated every time when Carlo brought him on. He received absolutely amazing ratings in all of Italian papers.I do agree that he can`t play 90 minutes, but the time he spends on the pitch is invaluable.
Cafu, same as Maldini, was plagued by an injury, was away for a long time. It`ll take him a while to come back to his best. Nonetheless i wouldn`t question his speed let alone skills, as you yourself mentioned.
Bear in mind that Barcelona, no matter how strong a team , aren`t exactly made up of extraterrestrials or concord aeroplanes.;) If Milan with Maldini, Billy and Cafu can beat so many other teams be it in serie A, CL or wherever, i don`t see why Barcelona would make an exception. You`ve got to believe. We are Milan.
Oh, and btw, i think that such professionals like the 3 of them are, know well enough when the time is right for them to retire, they are not going to and don`t want to play forever, they also want to retire while they still play(a la Baresi), not while sitting on the bench. And in my mind, for such greatnesses, it`s only right to be done that way, when them themselves know and say it out loud that they can`t play any longer.
Maldini is a weapon that we need to preserve for certain games. Too many starts will tire him and cause injuries. If he is used properly hes as good as anyone.
Billy has been fantastic, but either he or Milan need to get realistic and start looking at the future. The summer signings should cancel our need to ever play Billy again. He could probably do well for us, but its time to bring some new blood in.
Cafu should stay, and be used sparingly like Maldini.
With Stam and Simic leaving definately I think Milan will have to get another central defender this summer with WC is a good one to shop. Maldini still can play some good games but we should not use him as a full time starter. I think we have found our pair for next season which is Kala-Nesta. Thank god for that! In that scenario Bill should retire entirely.
Well time does affect an aging players speed. However the experience of guys like Maldini and Costacurta are priceless. One can see the expertise in their positioning when covering/zoning an opponent. Granted it is only when they move out of position do they get burnedscored on. I've been impressed by the fact that someone like Billy can still actually can start a few games and we end up as a team with a clean sheet. The main thing these older players need to remember is some of the limitation that age brings upon them. As far as simply being in the right place at the right time to prevent an opponent from shooting on to goal, you dont need someone with speed to do this any better than perhaps a slower defender.

I beg to differ beacause u need speed to be at the right place and at the right time...

oldiest with lots of experince is good but when playing a games and a team of high pace will be difficult. If Milan can retain one older player on the pitch and but another younger defender will be good. Juve lose to arsenal becauce they were lack of pace. turam n cannavaro is also an old player and suffer with the pace of english team

You're correct if you are talking "man to man marking", but you dont neccesarily need speed when covering a zone. Let us not forget that our best man marker plays in the midfield. Rhino is exceptional at this. It is his zone that he needs some work on. Zone marking is what our back four are very good at. Stam, Maldini, Costacurta, and even Nesta are not fast players with speed so there is no way anyone can expect them to man guys like Dinho with effect.
Furthermore most goals have been scored off of set piece plays and very few have been scored the other way. You dont need speed to cover a man when in a set play. You do need to cover the man though in set piece plays and this is where I think the lack of attention to detail is the problem and not the lack of speed.
