What is wrong with Marco van Basten? He has announced 33 players that will eventually form Holland's 23 man squad for the World Cup. And guess what, there's no Seedorf or Makaay!
Personally I think Clarence Seedorf is better than all of the midfielders in this pool of players, don't you agree? I'm starting to think that van Basten has personal problems with Seedorf and Makaay, does anyone know anything about this? And it all gets even more weird when van Basten some time ago said that there was a lack of experience in the Holland squad...
Here is the players he announced:
Goalkeepers: Patrick Lodewijks (Feyenoord), Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar).
Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (HSV Hamburg), Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Tim de Cler (AZ), Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Kew Jaliens (AZ), Jan Kromkamp (Liverpool), Joris Mathijsen (AZ), André Ooijer (PSV), Barry Opdam (AZ), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord).
Midfielders: George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Phillip Cocu (PSV), Edgar Davids (Tottenham Hotspur), Nigel de Jong (HSV Hamburg), Denny Landzaat (AZ), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax), Rafael van der Vaart (HSV Hamburg).
Attackers: Ryan Babel (Ajax), Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord), Martijn Meerdink (AZ), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV).

WTF they have cocu and davids and there ain't the unsung hero! definitely something wrong. bad for a player like seedorf, i feel really sad for him.
abt makaay too, he can come into form anytime and the number of goals he scores is pretty impressive too. anyway seedorf not being in was a big a$$ disapointment! three cl medal and hopefully he will add another one to his tally
Maybe there is something going on with Seedorf and MVB, or maybe MVB is just picking players who are in form, which would exclude Seedorf right now.
man, even the old Dennis Bergkamp could be in that team the way he plays with Arsenal when he's required... MVB is playing a lot of young players, mixed with a few veterans...
if he came to Milan, you could expect a big transformation in the line up...
that's why I am happy Carlo stays... at least for the next 2 seasons...
I think that would be a good thing though. Players wouldn't be in any sort of comfort zone, because they know that MVB will pick players in form rather than by reputation. Plus MVB won't be afraid of tough decisions in getting rid of a few players, which would give the squad the refreshing it badly needs.
does MVB think he can win the WC with that team??.. holland are the type of team that aims to win the tournament...
they might get 3rd or 4th probably QF's ... but u need experience to win big matches, and nothing is bigger than the WC

Badly needs? you would think that just because of the age, but not because of poor performance, or bad inner relations... we don't need refreshing, although we need to gradually replace some veterans... there's a big difference
People in Holland don't really like Seedorf because of his personality and they'll think that he has a bad influence on the other players. I personally don't understand this :dontkn: I think Seedorf is one of the best players in Holland at the moment. Forza Seedorf!! :p017:

I agree, plus...where's Heitinga anyway?
My answer to his pick is: ???
Hardly a surprise to me, since Seedorf never really produced his club form (and it can vary from stunningly superb to sheer stinkers) for the national team. Anyway, we should look at Seedorf's lack of involvement in international football as a positive sign for Milan.

I predict 3'd place for them, knocked out by champions Italia in the semis.
Well i disagree Sant, i think the squad does need badly refreshing. I personally believe that some players right now just go through the motions and i believe it's time we had at least one new player in the starting line up in midfield. Yes age is a factor, but so is performance, some players just aren't cutting it and it's time a few people took off their rose tinted glasses and started looking at the team objectively.
Take out all the 'old' players, the players leaving and the squad players that offer us nothing and you're left with a good 5 or 6 people that we don't need, which is about 1/4 of the squad ... which in my book means it's time for a shake-up to get some urgency back into our team.

Granted, Seedorf is not the youngest talented midfileder to come out of Holland and he is not having the season of his life, moreover Van Basten is trying to rejuvenate the team, but what is up with Phillip Cocu then?? Yes, he is still a solid player, yes he is the captain of PSV but FOR GOD'S SAKE HE IS OLDER THAN GANDHI(No offense to any Indians). I feel like there is something negative going on between Clarence and MVB...Sucks for Seedorf!

Can someone ban this douche bag for God's sake???
MVB and seedorf just don't get along, that's it.
I think it goes back to Euro 96 where seedorf created a big fuss and caused a very bad dressing room atmosphere.
secondly after he got appointed MVB started to clear out the squad (what happens very often when a new national coach is established) and (for now) he's got the results to prove he's right. Cocu is in the squad coz he is the beating heart of the squad, and he appears to be a leader on and of the field.
I wouldn't consider Holland to be favourites but they always play great (and than get they get knocked out by penalties, I think if they can avoid penalties they will reach the final :) )

why don't you love Feynoord? the club of Pi-Air?
Personally, i was quite shocked to see that he isn`t called up to the squad.
I started collecting stickers :embarass: for the WC and in my album i`ve noticed there is no Clarence in the Dutch NT.
I think that no matter what,he should`ve been called up to the squad, even though if he wouldn`t be a starter. His experience and class would come in handy, and that is something that could cost their team a title. On another note, i`ve also heard rumours about Seedorf and MVB not getting along.

yah Seedorf deserves a spot on the squad. The only midfielders I think are good are Van Der Vaart, and Davids, and Sneijder. I think Seedorf could have been the 4th midfielder. surprising he isn't there
I predict an early exit for Holland, in 1st round.
