How do you brits feel about the new appointed manager, after the defeat of Boro in yesterday's final?

I think he red the game quite badly, Maccarone on the bench was a baltant mistake, the guy was in form. The tactical clue may be a concern against travelled international coaches.

What do you think about him?

ps..I wait for Jim's reply..i know he kinda likes McLaren :w221:

He's a very good coach but managing is a different game altogether. I agree with you that tactically he seems to read games poorly at times. Its a very fine line though, the changes he made at half time nearly worked (Viduka shouldve scored at least 1 of his chances) and if they had worked everyone would say he is a tactical genius ;)

Maccarone has been at his most effective this season coming off the bench so i dont think that was necesarily a mistake, but starting 2 very attacking wingers in a 4-4-2 was asking for trouble.

where'd you get the idea that i like Mclaren Gio ? :googly: Or has my mind gone blank again ?? :D

Anyway, i thought it was a pathetic decision, they guy has no experience and was only chosen because he's English. What a joke. Because the F.A. botched things up, we missed out on the better managers and had to plump for 2nd rate options. It'll be just like Kevin Keegan all over again, they were saying how great it was to have an English manager, he's such a great motivator ... blah blah ... but he was a useless tactician, just like Mclaren and Allardyce (he's the biggest joke of the lot, pompous arrogant git).

Well now all the people like Ian f**king Wright who said he'd rather see England in footballing wilderness for 10 years than have another foreign manager can all be happy. Although ironically i can't see Mclaren doing anything with the team because he can't read a game for love nor money, even Boro fans think that ... so maybe we will be in Ian Wright's wilderness after all.

The whole thing is a big mess and nothing good will come of it.

To be fair though, im not sure which better managers were actually available. I would have liked Hiddink but he went to Russia where Abramovich will pay him £8m a year

Capello, Wenger, Mourinho, Benitez, Carlo, Rijkaard etc all more interested in club management, Fergie is a Scot and laughed at them the last time he was offered it ;) O Neill isnt over his personal issues yet or would probably have been given it.

Who were the realistic foreign candidates then? except Big Phil...I doubt he was ever gonna take the job, especially when the FA wanted someone (a decision) before the World Cup.
You would have liked O'Neil?

i dont think hes bad, but i think since errikson has been in charge, england looked better than ever, and im glad hes leaving :D but i doubt mclaren can be better..

as for the game, i thought opposed to the scorline, it was more even than it looks, its just that after the 2nd goal middlesborough broke down, the tactical mistake was to play 4 attackers at the same time against a fast and organised team like sevilla, doing that is never an option, especially vs a team like that.

What I think it quite funny was the media witch hunt before a coach had even been appointed. Scolari was linked and the sun immediately had a get scolari out campaign. How patethic it was. The best coach for the job and they didn't want him because he wasn't english.

Fair play you got your english now watch as your promising team crumbles.

eventually i didn't see any1 else coaching them so there is stevie, but he I think he wud do a decent job as a "temp" :haha: . It will be very difficult for him though to manage those "stars" such as "david beckham"

He was a well liked and respected assistant manager at Utd when they won the treble so managing Beckham wont be a problem.

Im actually quite excited by what he might do with the side as he is tactically adventurous (if occasionally wrong  ) and has no problems switching from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 etc. At Boro he always had the problem that many of his best players were past their best, like Hasselbaink, Mendieta, Southgate and so on. With England he will have the best this country has to offer and will probably make better use of Englands strength than Eriksson who's only variation was from 4-4-2 to 'diamond' 4-4-2 ;)

As for Scolari, he is a decent coach but by no means flawless, and he can barely speak English!

I never wanted an English manager as all the candidates were rubbish. If there was a great English manager, then sure, sign him up. But there wasn't, so we ended up with mediocre Mclaren.
