Juventus midfielder Patrick Vieira was the victim of a robbery at his villa in Cannes. The former Arsenal captain and his family were gassed by the robbers, as they contaminated the air conditioning system. Vieira, his wife Cheryl and daughter Cheries then awoke the next morning to discover that expensive jewellery was stolen and their £40,000 Mercedes ML500. Although the car was later found abandoned, the full value of the stolen jewellery is unknown. Vieira has now been cleared by French doctors to resume his World Cup preparations. "There was a break-in at Mr Vieira's home, during which jewellery was stolen," a police spokesman in Cannes said. "The burglars then escaped in Mr Vieira's Mercedes. We are now involved in a hunt for these burglars and we cannot say if they knew this was the home of the footballer or not."
