Indeed I do. In fact I said in other threads he is a player I would want us to buy. He is a right back that is good in both offense and defense. some could think that a Brazilian like him would be mostly a offensive player, but I seen him do much better defensive work the most other fullbacks I seen. Tireless and fast, like a young Cafu. Good crosses and a good shot at that. a top 5 right back IMO.

Of course the fact that we prolonged the contract with Cafu makes this less likely. But I say DO IT!

IMO, he will end up in Barcelona which will make them even more scary.

how is he?

And who replaces Cafu when he gets tired or injured ? He can't last an entire season now at his peak. This is why we need a new right-back Milany.

Alves is alot closer to Liverpool than Barca right now. Liverpool have started their negotiations for him before Barca, so i would call this an even race.

I've seen him a few times and while he does have Cafu like qualities, he does sometimes seem to keep his head down and not look up and can be a little lacking defensively (although still better than say Cicinho). However, these are all points that would improve if he came here.

Sevilla want £7/8 million for him, so it's not a deal we can just say 'yes, ok' to, it's quite a high price.

He is a very good player, can cross well, fast and plays decent defence. But at this moment Oddo is better solution as he is chepper and knows absolutly everythjing about serie a. Alves in a good player dough, as good as cicinho.

That's alot of money to spend on a player if you intend to loan him straight out again. Plus that idea also refers me back to my point of who plays at right-back if Cafu can't play and Alves (or whoever) is loaned out ?

Whoever we get at right-back will be there as a starter, with Cafu playing a handful of games every now and then. It'll be a mix of the two players to get our new right-back used to playing with us and for us also to get used to this being Cafu's last season.

Who? Name me a superior right back outside of Milan, Inter or Juve.

Serie A is in big trouble bar the top three due to financial difficulties. Top players aren't coming to Italy like they used to. The money is in England and Spain I'm afraid.

Alves is not in the WC squad but he is as good as Cicinho, trust me. Remember people, we have Gattuso on the right side, SIMPLY NEED an attacking RB or our game wil be lame as this year. Or Rino has to go, which I dont see happening easily.

IMO, he is better than Cafu in defense. In the games I seen him he have tracked back good, he have intercepted really well in the penalty area and saved Sevilla in several counterattack situations. I don't see players pass him all the time or his position being empty all the time.

I wish Milan could take a look at him. With Berlusconi back this summer, we will have spending power. According to Brasiliero, he said that Barca prefer to keep Belletti, that means that they have pulled out the race to get him. Right now only Liverpool are after him, and guys this guy is a true gem at RB. If you dont believe me, just go download a clip off him or just watch him play any game for Seville. Last year I was all hyped up for Cicinho, but that prick went to Real. I think we should not miss out this time on Alves.

ooops, what an idiot i am :hammer:

I meant to say money + players, honestly :D

The times i've seen him Reveillere has been excellent, showing good attacking and defensive skills. His injury kept him out for a while and Clerc took full advantage of that, but i feel he's more proven than Alves and possibly Oddo too, in the fact that he's played in the CL for Lyon for a good few seasons now, that experience will prove valuable.

mk18
03-06-2006, 18:56
i have to be honest i havent seen alot of revelliere but i feel hes good enough, the reason i like oddo and alves besides their skills is that oddo has an italian mentality and a milan mentality, you feel he would fit in right away and he already has enough experience in italy, as for alves i love his attittide, im hoping we can buy hungry and ferocious players, players like him, diarra, gallas and adriano ... i think were a bit too soft, we need to scare of other teams

I agree with you. The only player I would prefer over reveillere is Alves as he is very young and seems to have something special in him. but he would cost a lot - some crazy sums of 15-20 mil are being quoted and I just don't think that we could afford to spend so much on him when we would need reinforcements in CD, attack and midfield too. No such money for RB, at least not this year.

So, for the things you mentioned, Reveillere seems like our best shot - very good age (26-27), should cost between 5 and 10 mil, and has a great deal of experience in CL. he is an attcking right back with excellent defensive skills, a very tenacious player indeed. A good thing is that he lost his starting place in Lyon and that Clerc extended his contract - this should make Lyon much more willing to sell, and at a lower price than they would have a year before.

Oddo would be my 3rd choice but mainly because he is Italian and Milan product, something that shouldn't be overlooked given the new regulations for the CL, which are either already in effect from this year or will be from next. Of course he is a good player, but he is also closing in on 30, plus would probably cost us almost as much as reveillere.

As for giving lyon money + players, I doubt we have any players with us who would be willing to relocate to France, unless their wives want to learn French, that is :diablo: ... but I suspect they already speak it well enough, otherwise they would have never managed to land a football player for a husband ;)

Can anyone see Liverpool paying 15m for Alvez? I dont and if so surely the price will come down.

i sure hope you are right. i think that ultemately Alves will be worht every penny of it but right now we need to reinforce way too many areas and we won't have 15+ mil in surplus. Maybe if we make some investments this year, for next year we could afford 15mil for a RB.
I think the best thing that could happen is see Alves stay at Sevilla. This year we could buy a cheaper player (Reveillere/Oddo) and for next year go for Alves given that Cafu will probably leave.
Of course there's always the possibility to see Marzorati get some more chances but it's one thing to be talanted, a very different one to actually realize that talant. maybe the best thing for him would be a loan and if he shows something special (like Ambro and Foggia) bring him back in. One things sure, sitting on the bench would hardly help him develop as a player.

Jim_UK
04-06-2006, 04:48
I think the 3 names up for consideration (oddo, alves, reveillere) are all pretty similar and i think could all perform admirably for our club.

Well, we all knew we needed a new right-back, but now it's confirmed further with Cafu's news that he wants to switch to centre-back !

Cafu is would be a better striker than a centre back. He may able to do it in Brazil, but not in Italy and certainly not for Milan. If he cant play at right back anymore, its time to say goodbye.

Now how would they be able to get a work permit for him?

Jim_UK
05-06-2006, 05:03
I don't know the answer to that question Kris, but i should imagine it would be along the usual lines of some sort of dual passport/citizenship or something to do with the number of games he's played for Sevilla.

But like i said, i don't know the exact answer, all i know is that Liverpool have already started negotiations. Benitez and Parry have been out there for over a week now talking to Sevilla, Valencia and Atletico Madrid, looking at targets and so forth. Benitez is now back in England while 'the wallet' (Parry's nickname :D) is still there talking to clubs and starting the ball rolling. Initial reports said that Sevilla would let him go for around £7 million and then that figure shot up to £12 million ... so it's only the kind of cat and mouse stage right now.

From Calciomercato:

AC Milan have jumped to the lead in the race for Sevilla fullback Daniel Alves.
Liverpool failed with a major bid, confirmed by Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido, last week, while Barcelona are also keen on the Brazilian.

But Milan have put together an offer of £11 million cash, plus veteran fullback Cafu, in exchange for Alves.

Del Nido won't sell for less than £12 million, but will be tempted by Milan's offer, which has been funded by Andriy Shevchenko's £35 million move to Chelsea.

There was a similar story on something called clubcall today...

AC Milan have reportedly moved ahead of Liverpool in the chase for Sevilla star Daniel Alves.
It appears the Italian club have put together an £11million bid for the Brazilian full-back - and are ready to throw Cafu into the deal as well.

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido confirmed last week that Liverpool had failed in a bid for Alves.
But it is thought the offer from Milan is tempting the La Liga club to let their star defender go.

Liverpool will struggle to match the Serie A giants, who have £35million in their transfer kitty after the sale of Andriy Shevchenko to Chelsea, in a cash battle for Alves.

Whoever replaces Cafu shouldnt be a replacement for the Cafu that hasnt done much recently rather the Cafu the tore up the opposition left wing when we won the scudetto. As far as Im concerned Oddo isnt the man. Teams like Barca, Chelsea, United and even Arsenal are buying match winning players, its about time Galliani remembered football matches are won on football pitches and not in ballance books.

Alves wants the move to Liverpool and it is said a fee has already been agreed, it's just the additional bonus fees and extra clauses that need to be sorted out.

I would say the deal with Liverpool is a good 70% complete, so unless something unexpected happens like Sevilla asking for more money, Alves looks set to be a Liverpool player sometime soon.

"Posso dire senza ombra di dubbio che lui vuole solo il Liverpool", ha dichiarato l'agente, Jose Rodriguez Baster. I "Reds" si sono visti rifiutare gią un paio di offerte dal Siviglia. Il club spagnolo chiede per Alves quasi 15 milioni di euro. yeah, probably. he must have a good reason i guess.

i would think twice before i go to liverpool. of course they have great fans and fantastic tradition but when it comes to silverware they have an as good chance on the domestic title in england as have sevilla in spain. there is just too strong competition i think.

It's very painful to see a young talent favouring Liverpool instead of us... :(

yeah, it must be because of Galliani. he is the reason why Milan seems to be losing of its glory from the past. From a myth, we've turned into a home for the elderly and young, ambitious players would naturally prefer othe teams over Milan.
The only solution is to sack that bald SOB and start spending big.

is that what u want gre-no-li? to sack Galliani and bring in the ajax transfer director to bring in all the youth products in the world? or do u want us to bring in peter kenyon to buy players like Drogba for 28m, Essien 26m, Paulo Ferreira 30m (!) ?

its getting annoying to read all ur posts man, u know me, i havent disrespected u or said anything wrong, but now its bothering me.. usually I ignore ur posts, but it is hard now cuz you post so much everywhere.. just knock it out, we know that u disagree with our transfer policy, u dont need to mention it over and over and over again..thats why many people here have probs with you..

i know ur now going to say no one can doubt how much u love milan, and yeah, i agree that u love them too much, but im not questioning that, im just asking u to whining, its hard to believe that you are over 30 yrs old.

I am sorry to disagree with you guys, but today on Calciomercato (again how valid are most of these sites!!!), Alves' agent came out and said that Alves only wants to go to Liverpool. If it's true that their asking price is 12 milion pds, then why don't we pay the 12 instead of offering 11 and cafu. Though old, Cafu is still a good player, one whom alves can learn a great deal from at Milan. Cafu looked 27 against croatia, not 36. Oddo is still out there, and another player I like who is still pretty young is Giandomenica Mesto of Reggina.

Why is it sad to see a player favouring Liverpool Gre-no-li ? As far as i'm aware Liverpool are the only team to have shown a real and sustained interest in the player. Like i said in my last post, their interest in him stretches back way beyond this summer, it goes back over a year at least.

It is natural for a club like Milan to be linked with players like Alves, but i highly doubt they had any worthwhile negotiations for him. So if one club has been pursuing you on and off for a long time is making the effort to sign you, you would naturally become favourable for that club, particularly if you admire some of their players/manager.

I don't see how he could favour a move to anywhere else at this moment in time when no other club has shown a real desire to buy him, english, spanish, italian, german or otherwise. :)

On goal.com he rejected Milan's offer as well.

Alves Says No To Milan

The Sevilla defender wants a move to Liverpool.
The Rossoneri's dream of signing Daniel Alves has canished completely, as the player's agent, Jose Rodriguez Baster, admitted that his client wants just Liverpool.

"I can say that without any doubt he wants Liverpool only.

"Personally I did not speak to any other club, whoever called spoke directly to Sevilla, but Daniel wants to play with Liverpool."

The Spanish club are asking 15 million Euros for the services of their defender.

Sevilla have signed Hinkel from Stuttgart, which kind of indicates that Alves won't be staying. I'm 95% certain he'll be at Liverpool next week.

I often wondered what happened to Hinkel, at one stage he was considered to be better than Lahm (on the right obviously), he was just as cavalier and got positive reports from a wide range of sources. Lahm seems to have kicked on a stage but Hinkel has possibly stayed still ? He's one to keep an eye on if he recaptures his early Stuttgart form.

I am not 100% sure but think Hinkel got injured and couldn't play for some time. Also Stuttgart as a whole haven't been in the best of forms lately.
I dont know about you but I think Alves will find it difficult at Liverpool as I would expect him to feel unsettled with life in England, sort of like Crespo. I am more or less sure that within a year or two he would be looking for a way out of EPL. We'll see, I guess.

I think he'll cope ok, wether he flourishes is another matter entirely. He'll be an exciting prospect though, give Liverpool some much needed pace out wide.

daniel alves is the type of player that can adjust to any league IMO, i think his perfomances depends on whether or not he enjoys his life at whatver club he joins, and since he is more used to a sunny climate like brazil and sevilla there is a chance that he wont settle in at rainy liverpool and with the small number of brazilians there it makes it even harder (correct me jim if im wrong but isnt there only fabio aurelio there thats brazilian?), hopefully he changes his mind and joins milan, even if next year since cafu would probably retire

Jim_UK
23-06-2006, 18:59
that's news to me about aurelio being at Liverpool mk :D

I know he's been linked, but i don't think he's left Valencia yet. There are reports he'll end up at Real Madrid, so i should imagine that's more likely for him. Unless he really likes Benitez. Alves aside, there are no brazilians in Liverpool's squad and i don't think they've ever had one ... no one springs to mind at least.

He has the characteristics to succeed in England and i'm sure if he was put off by the weather then he surely wouldn't go ??

He's still a Valencia player as far as i know. Unless they are waiting until July 1st when his contract probably expires and then he'll officially become a free transfer.

Liverpool will snatch him. They will also get him for a very low price because the only club which is on alves' mind is Liverpool and he doesn't want to go anywhere else.

Liverpool has a very stingy policy. They will place a 3mn pound tag on the aging dudek and screw his WC chances or will swap josemi for kromkamp but will never spend BIG. If there is some one who is worth alot of money they will influence his mind to the point where the player will have no option other than that one club. This way the club (in this case sevilla) will have to sell him beause if they force him to stay he will not perform. Screw 'em, the world doesn't end with alves.

You are quite misguided in some of your points rahul

Liverpool has a very stingy policy.

Wrong. There is a difference between having money and not spending it. Liverpool are the former. They don't have a sugar daddy that has endless amounts of millions like some clubs and they also don't get as much revenue through shirt sales, etc. They have debts, plus the looming costs of a new stadium, this is why they have been actively seeking substantial new investment for quite some time now. If they had the money they would buy the likes of Torres or Joaquin, but they don't. They have to be sensible in the transfer market as they don't have alot of money to play with.

They will place a 3mn pound tag on the aging dudek and screw his WC chances

How have they screwed his WC chances ? Dudek had a poor season in 04/05 and they bought Reina who is a much better goalkeeper. Dudek could have left earlier knowing that it was a WC year, but he didn't.

or will swap josemi for kromkamp but will never spend BIG.

Why would you spend big money on a squad player ? That's all Josemi was and that's all Kromkamp is. Again, i refer back to the main point of the club having little money to splash out.

You seem to be suggesting that Liverpool have brainwashed Alves into thinking that they are the only club he can sign for. How ludicrous. Maybe, just maybe Alves WANTS to sign for Liverpool, maybe he was a childhood fan of the earlier Liverpool teams, maybe he wants to experience life in England. Who knows. If he really wanted another team, he would go to another team, Liverpool haven't forced anything.

OK. Did I ever say that its illegal or unethical?

How?
By not selling him to some other club. He did not get chances to play for liverpool. He was not seen by polish coach. Then how will he get picked up for the NT? May be dudek had something more in his store for the 05-06 season, may be more than reina. Dudek kept crying like a baby to get out of the club. He released so many statements mentioning Liverpool means nothing to him anymore and his time was up at the club. Why play with someone career? May be he didn't have any future at all in the Polish NT but Liverpool had no right to decide that.

Why would you spend big money on a squad player ? That's all Josemi was and that's all Kromkamp is. Again, i refer back to the main point of the club having little money to splash out.

OK. Did I ever say that its illegal or unethical? I'm just pointing out the way their transfer policy works.

Who knows. Maybe Rafa kept calling him day and night explaining him the history of the club. Maybe Rafa kept telling him how good a manager he is! Maybe he kept telling him about the various positions he could work in and the first team chances he would get. Maybe he was told the importance of learning english. Maybe he just did everything to lure him to liverpool.

If a player is constantly pestered about one particular club how is it that other clubs will come to his mind and I am very sure that Benitez did everything to convince him.

He has become someone like a fan. How does one become a fan of a club? When he is constantly bombarded with the club's history, present & future, its players, manager, fan base and so on; and again did I ever say that its illegal or unethical or immoral? :r11:

Alves Too Expensive For Benitez

Sevilla's Brazilian full-back Daniel Alves has reportedly been deemed to expensive by Liverpool boss Benitez.

Alves was also tracked by Barcelona and Milan earlier.

However, Barcelona dropped their interest after Belletti's match-winner in the Champions League final, while Milan were forced to, earlier this month, when Alves declared he only wanted a move to Liverpool.

But it now appears that Rafael Benitez considers Sevilla's asking price - around £10 million - too high, and would rather look elsewhere than meet it.

Both Benitez and Alves had been keen on the move, which would have seen the Brazilian increase the Spanish influence at Anfield.

It remains to be seen whether Sevilla will lower their price, or whether Milan might want to come back into the picture after the earlier snub.

well, it's 10 mil BP, I think, which is about 14-15 mil euros. That's hardly a bargain but I think he does have the talent to turn this into a great investment over the years.
Miguel and reveillere also shoudn't be forgoten though. And with Oddo in the heep too, I think we have a good number of options for RB, what's left is that we actually want to buy one ;)

ah 10m bp, ok thats a different story, still though i think he should be worth it, but offcourse when you have players like oddo, miguel, and rev on the market then maybe its better to look elsewhere, i just hope that if we dont go for him he would stay where he is so we can get him when cafu leaves us

Sevilla is demanding 12 million pounds for Alves and Liverpool decided that was too much, so apparently they have dropped out. They just signed Brazilian fullback Fabio Aurelio on a free transfer from Valencia and defender Gabriel Paletta from Banfield in Argentina instead.

zlatanov

if juve drop he probably will be, and still hes definatly worth it
from what I read on calciomercato ragrding the kaka situation, since the contracts of players have to abide to certain guidelines set by the Football Federation, a player can cancel his contract if his team is demoted to a lower division as a penalty for cheating. That does not include the case when a team drops to Serie B because of their placement in the table at the end of the championship.
So, if we do stay in A and Juve are dropped, my guess is everyone in their team will be free to cancel their contracts and become free agents. Even if the players dodn't wanna do that so that Juve can get some money for them, that money should be significantly lower than their cost would have been under normal circumstances.
So, maybe with 5-10 mil for each of Zambrotta and Buffon, everyone would be relatively happy, I guess. Maybe Abbiati could also be included in the deal.

Alves still hopes for Reds move
By Peter ORourke - Created on 6 Jul 2006

Sevilla star Daniel Alves is still hoping to secure a move to Liverpool despite the deal stalling.

Liverpool have been chasing the Brazilian for some time, but have been frustrated in their attempts to lure him to Anfield.

Alves has been one of Rafa Benitez's top targets all summer as he looks to bring in a new right-sided player.

Liverpool have already seen two bids rejected for Alves with Sevilla determined to keep hold of the versatile performer.

Sevilla are reportedly holding out for around £10 million and Liverpool are unwilling to go that high for Alves.

A number of other clubs are waiting in the wings to sign Alves, but the player's agent Jose Rodriguez Baster insists Alves has his heart set on a move to Liverpool.

"It is true that at the moment there are difficulties with the deal," Baster told skysports.com.

"There is an economic difference between what Sevilla are demanding and what Liverpool are willing to pay.

"We need to try and reach a compromise and we will try to do this in the next few days.

"Liverpool is Daniel's first option and he wants to play with them despite interest from other clubs.

"He wants to play in England and that is the most important thing.

"We are trying to make the operation happen."
