View Full Version : Fabio Cannavaro
I know we have many threads about defenders we'd like to acquire... but this one is a special one, so I decided to create a special topic for him.
World champion, captain of world champions, best player of whole world champions team and the best player during entire tournament of World Cup 2006... here in Milan :2whis: Imagine our CB line - Sandro e Canna :guw:

The Rossoneri want the Italian national team captain to complete their central defence for next season.
With the departure of Jaap Stam, the Rossoneri are now hoping to re-build their central defence with the Azzurri's central duo of Nesta and Cannavaro.
To do so, Milan will have to watch out from the competition of Real Madrid who want Fabio Cannavaro too, and will therefore end up in a bidding war for the services of the Juventus defender.
This will surely deteriorate further the relationship between the Merengues and Milan, who were involved in a row over Kaka in the past weeks.
Rae, my friend, you said it yourself...
"I know we have many threads about defenders we'd like to acquire... but this one is a special one, so I decided to create a special topic for him."
why not just add it where it was supposed to go?
if not, anyone could say what you said, and we would have one thread about every player who now becomes available...
don't you think?
Okay... first of all I do not think that Cannavaro is an ordinary defender... about who we can discuss elsewhere. Secondly I can not find a thread which is dedicated to the disscussion about how to srtengthen our defence [sorry if I am wrong]. Thirdly admins has a power to merge it, if it really does not fit here they way it is now. ;)
Cheers
Cannavaro is a great player and I'd love to see him at Milan, but....
Rae, why do you support the Confederacy? I live two hours from the capital of the old Confederacy and I think it's vile and distasteful. :5130:
Rae, are there any trailer parks in Lithuania?

I think Berlusconi should bring his best stuff this offseason and say to Milan fans "Look, we are sorry for what happened, lets forget about Calciopoli and field an unbeatable team".
Cannavaro, Zambro and Gigi would be a huge commitment from Berlu.
:hah2: Rae, are there any trailer parks in Lithuania?

I wish I had one of those corny Jeff Foxworthy "you might be a redneck if" jokes for this occassion.

Berlusconi. Better do smn bout canna cause canna is peob the best defender at the moment . And to see him in a milan shirt would be a dream cometrue!
It's funny though with Berlu, he's always accused of being really corrupt but it's the minute he was out of the Chairmans seat that things started going wrong.
either that or he just knows how not to get caught.
My dream defense has always been Nesta, Cannavaro, Maldini....

Out of these 4, what are the chances of us getting them:
Oddo - my estimation 80% chance
Buffon- my estimation 70% chance
Zambrotta- 50%
Canna- 40%

Monday is gonna be "D" day.
Buffon and Zambrotta will probably stay in Italy. They still have at least 5 years ahead of them.
As for Canna..... i think Inter is out of the question, after the way they made him go out of the club, while Milan won't play in CL, which may be a HC for them. Canna will be 34, and if he signs for Milan he'll be 35 when Milan will play again in CL.
Also, he adores Capello and he'll most probably accept his call to go play for Real !
About Zambro.... Milan is IMO the strongest favourite to get him, while Barcelona is at 3rd place in the race. Real still won't give up, and Capello made it clear that after Kaka, Zambrotta is his first objective !

First off sorry for the verdict and I hope Juve come back within a year, will be tough but still.
I agree.
Zambrotta and Buffon want to stay in Italy as well. Cannavaro will be very difficult to sign.

Let me say I didnt know Canna was this "old", to put it a name. Still, he is one of the top CB of the world and he proved it during something called world cup. I wouldnt be too dissapointed if he didnt join us, although I would like to add him. Zambrotta and Gigi would be fantastic additions, hopefully we can wrap those signings ASAP.
Canna will be 34, and if he signs for Milan he'll be 35 when Milan will play again in CL.Well, as we all know central defenders can play until 40 years, San Billy is the best example and I should add that his abilities are still in the highest level. However players at the age like his has time to recover thus can not play in every match as they did before in their careers. Nevertheless I do see Canna playing or able to play until his 40s, unless he wants to quit earlier. So the fact he is 33 now does not disturb his porbable career in Milan even though he wont play in UCL next year. ;)

That's not good news :(.
Is that a good source , Skysports?
I'm still hoping that Zambrotta is coming , we really need him.
Cannavaro is going to Real , I'm pretty sure of that.
Has Milan been linked to any other CB lately?
We need to do everythjing we can to get Zambrotta and Buffon, Cannavaro will not join Milan so im not even hoping for that. But Zambrotta and Gigi are brilliant players, and we need to as much as we can to sign them.

i aint bothered about cannavaro since hes already 34 ... if their gonna sign him forget it .. just let maldini play center back ... i love maldini only problem is yeah hes old ... but still milan need a younger center back ... i wish we had Kompany .. hes is just perfect for this job

SO I guess Buffon, Zambrotta, Oddo are coming to Milan.
Who is next? Will Canna comes?
What about Carmonesi?
Also, what about Toni?

Out of the first list I would say Buffon and Oddo are our best shot. Zambrotta is a good possibility.
Canna will most probably not come.
We don't need Camoranesi.
Toni is an interesting one but Inter are closer to him than we are.
I really hope we get Buffon Zambrotta and Oddo.. along with a CD or two.
Cannavaro will go to Real. He's expected to sign tonight or tomorrow morning !

i strongly believe billy should leave looking at his performances last season, he is still good but no longer at Milan's level, sadly. Let's not forget maldini is still the best defender in the world at 33-34 but not long after that, injuries caught up with him and there is no gurantee that cannavaro would suffer the same fact.
i am more interested in getting buffon and zambrotta as they would fill up the weak links in our team. We should still be fine at CB but we need some really world class young players to fill up the spot beside Nesta cos i still ain't convinced that Kala is world class at CB.
And you seem to be forgetting our need for a RB.
Is there even a little chance to get Cannavaro then surely we must take it, he´s that good
Kaladze is miles better than Barzagli. I think Nesta & KK is the best in Serie A. If we got Zambro, Buffon, & Oddo we'd have a good defence line for about 4/5 years, along with Marzoratti gaining experience etc we should be ok for near future.
Is there even a little chance to get Cannavaro then surely we must take it, he´s that good
There is no more possibility in getting Cannavaro.
Because he has already given his word to Real.
I wouldn't rate Kaladze much higher than Barzagli , but he is a solid CB.

So if really zambrotta n buffon come to Milan as wat the news said in past few day, who will be leaving then?? will Milan kpt all the current defender n plus in buffon n zambrotta. The wages will sure increade n while we kept talking who will come but who else will leave??
And you seem to be forgetting our need for a RB.
i was thinking of playing zambrotta at right.... :coffee:
Cannavaro can go. He is a phenomenal player, but I dont think that he is what we need. In terms of age and experience, we already have Maldini and Billy. We dont need another experienced veteran. We need a good, young centerback who will play with us for at least the next five years. And either way, he is gone to Real anyways, so we are better off looking at other options.

Madrid Sign Cannavaro And Emerson
Real Madrid have announced that they have signed Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson from Juventus as Fabio Capello's rebuilding programme begins.
The Italian coach has returned to his former club to snap up the duo for a reported fee of around €20million.
Madrid's new president, Ramón Calderón, promised that several new signings would be made in the next few days and he has delivered.
The club's sporting director, Predrag Mijatovic, met with Juve officials in Turin and closed a deal for the players on Wednesday evening.
Cannavaro was one of the true stars of the World Cup Finals as he captained Italy to success, while Emerson has been a key player for Capello at Roma and Juve.
The Italian giants were bracing themselves for a player exodus after the club was relegated to Serie B for their involvement in the recent match-rigging scandal.

Seeing all these transfer rumors becoming reality. Where is Milan?
Gosh, players want to come to Milan but yet, I don't see Milan giving up money to get them. Whats wrong with Berlu these days? I still have faith in Berlu but with just Favalli and Younguff, I doubt thats enough even if Juve Lazio and Viola are no longer in Series A
I totally agree! Barca getting zambrotta and thuram for 19 mil... and zambrotta stated he wants to get to milan few days back. That sucks... Real got emerson and canna (not that good signing since theyre old, but capello will know how to use them). And as i can read, milan didnt want to sell abbiati to juve (loaned him to torino!) and therefore we are bond not to get anything in return. I really dont get it - last year we saved juve (omg!) with abbiati, and this year we loan him to their enemies. Is there any profit in this strange actions?
i agree, im not happy about all this so far, we should get buffon and zambrotta, the fans need something like that after a quiet transfer period for the last 3 years and after sheva, stam and rui left us

I am glad I am not the only one who is feeling Milan no longer want to compete and that they are satisfy with what they have already.
I mean under any other seasons, I am fine with the Milan policy of not going out to splash on players. But if the time comes when u can sign the likes of Canna, Buffon, Oddo, Zambrotta, Thuram, Toni, Emerson, Veira, Ibra, Trez all at a possible prize, well, u better go for them, unless u don't have the money.
Gosh, Berlu, what r u doing?

Its become pretty aparent that Milan is not going to do anything in terms of taking Juves players . . . I think it would have been different if we were allowed to play in Europe.
GavinMilan
20-07-2006, 22:39
The thing is Europe or not, Milan can still attract players. I doubt players will just go to a side that is playing in Europe, if that is the case, all palyers will head to Palermo and Cheivo.
I am starting to believe that MIlan is having serious internal problems. But then I could be wrong, since MIlan did sign the GREAT FAVALLI and we all know how great he is. Favalli is so good that he did not play in the WC b/c he thought he was way above WC.

Cannavaro has always been my favourite defender and he has done a good defending job in the last World Cup...He's Italy savior...
Cannavaro has officially been transfered to RM and I don't see any reason for discussing him any further. Of course, you can PM me if you want to whimp about how Milan lost such an opportunity to sign the wonderful player.
