Yes I know.. probably just another rumour as we're going through a little bit of a striking drought. But does anybody know anything about this guy ?

Milan eye Ajax youngster

Milan are set to make a move for Ajax sensation Ryan Babel when the transfer window reopens in January, according to reports.

The 19-year-old forward, who has Surinam origins, is rated highly by former Milan star Marco Van Basten (pictured), who included him in the Netherlands’ squad for the World Cup in Germany.

“Babel has the potential to become the new Thierry Henry,” said the Dutch Coach recently.

Babel is a natural born winger, who could play next to Alberto Gilardino and Filippo Inzaghi and could also be fielded by Coach Carlo Ancelotti as a second striker.

Milan transfer guru Ariedo Braida has long since eyed the youngster and the club seems set to make an offer to Ajax in the attempt to bring Babel to Italy during the January transfer window, although his move may be postponed until the end of the season.

Ajax would be looking to net at least £5m for the player due to his importance to their Eredivisie hopes.

If Babel did make the switch to the peninsula he certainly wouldn’t be the first Ajax star to make the move.

The likes of Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Patrick Kluivert, Dennis Bergkamp and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have all previously traded life in Holland for a move to Italy.

i think i saw him play when holland played against Italy? im not hugely convinced but i could be wrong :dconf: i just dont want him to turn into another Kluivert! i suppose hes more of the type of player we need right now, although in the future i would like to see a move for Huntelaar...

babel is a totally dif player than huntelaar since babel is more of a wing player. In a formation with 2 wingers and one striker - a 4-5-1 for instance, he usually plays the role of the left winger. One player to compare him to would be Farfan at PSV under Hiddink or even Van Persie at Arsenal.
He is a very young player - not sure if he has even 20 years of age - and is very fast and skillful. Already a Holand NT player under MvB and I think it was namely MvB who recommended him to Milan like a year ago or so.
Given how young he is, he has a lot to learn and improve on but time is on his side and even now he would bring something extra to our attack.

Very fast and tricky player, would possibly inject some pace into our side if purchased. He's a good player, but I really don't see us signing him at this point.

Di Natale, Babbel, Oddo, Marcelo = £20 million. There you go, sign the cheque please Mr Berlusconi :grinser:

It's one of those crappy rumours tribal comes up with when there is nothing going on in the market. In recent times even Channel 4 has started to re-print these crappy rumours. There are no qutes of citations for it to be true. Still who cares? Its exciting and thats what many of us need with our "unlucky" attack.

Babel came out on the scene about 2 years ago. I remember back then I wanted this guy to come to Milan so bad. Lately however, his development seems to have stalled. Even though Van Basten likes him and keeps "pushing" him into the national side, Babel dissapoints almost every time. The most recent one I saw was this past week....Bulgaria-Holland. Babel was so dissapointing........i saw nothing from the guy I wanted in Milan a year ago. It is true that he is young and has potential........but lately it seems that his potential will never develop into pure quality. Simply.....not a Milan material.

the season just started, and we're still 3 months away from January market... these guys, like Calciomercato and others, make a living during silly season... business is down these days so they'll invent anything or post whatever interpretation of what people say, just to fill up the page...

I agree with what nefremo said and he's not the first to have raised questions about Babel's recent (or lack of) development.

We do need his type of player though, someone in that sort of cast.

Babel is playin' out of position for the national side... he is not a winger... just watch him in Ajax & you will be able to see that he performs way better as a 2nd striker just behind Huntelaar... he is playin' as a winger purely because of the formation the Dutch side uses... and just because he has pace doesn't really mean he is suited on the wings...

NO thanx. We dont need a potential striker. Milan needs a PROVEN striker ala Drogba, Trez, Torres or Tevez.

From that list, the only PROVEN striker is Trezeguet!! :)

the dutch side usually plays the same as ajax 4-3-3
with wingers...

It would be great for Babel if he could sign for Milan but i don't think he will.
Under the new coach he finally has got his place in the basic line up and is in a suberb form too.
Milan should better take a shot at Huntelaar who has as much potential as Babel has

Even if Babel is not exactly what we need right now, we can still sign him as a project to develop. We can certainly use Huntlaar to put some fire under Gilardino's butt. At this point, I no longer care who we sign as long as we sign someone to sit Gilardino and Oliveira on the bench. They suck and I am sick of watching them destroying our attacking force.

Whats it matter because if milan take a chance with him as soon as he comes good we will have Chelski and Real MAdrid knocking on the door again. Huntalaar is a proven goalscorer Babel still has time on his side.

So your saying not to sign anyone, coz all we are is a feeder club to Chelsea or Madrid???? :(
With better players comes success, success breeds success, breeds fans, breeds players who want to join our club. If you show no ambition, then you might as well die. (Not you as a person though, but if Milan don't have any ambitions then they should just scrap the club).

I heard last night again that Gilardino stunk up the place, that he was mentally not in the game. I was very excited when we bought gila, and till recently thought that he would be the perfect scorer for milan. However, now i ask myself if he is really suited for our club, and maybe a change of scenery would do him good. I know it would be stupid to give up on a 24 yr old fwd who has had past success, including a not so bad 1st season in milan, but he has been in poor form for close to 7 months. Maybe gila is more suited for teams with a distinctly Italian mentality like roma and even juventus whenever they come back up. It is still to early to declare Oliveira a bust, and it seems that the last two games, he has been very unlucky not to score.
As for Babel, Higuain, Huntelaar, Palacio, Kerlon, etc..., none are guarantees. There never are in football, but we have to take a chance. Sheva had a great track record at Kiev, but I don't think anyone expected 175 goals. Gila was the closest sure thing since he played in Serie A and had a proven track record, but look how he has struggled of late. I say take a chance on highly rated players, bring them over, and play them. It's the only way we will ever know what we have. Because right now, Pipo is no more than a 3rd fwd. He is 33, we need to remember that. We did get burned with Kluivert, bogarde, reiziger, and davids, but didn't we also get Gullit, Van Basten, and Rijkaard from Holland. It's a crapshoot and we need to roll the dice.

no sorry what i meant to say is that if we buy Babel and he comes good he will only be poached buy Madrid or Chelski like Sheva and Kaka (not that Kaka is leaving) so Milan might as well buy Huntalaar because people already know what he is capable of so the intrest wouldnt be as great when he starts scoring. and he isnt that exspensive and not as much risk of him flopping!

And who's to say they won't want to sign Huntelaar if he's a success too?

Kaka1899

nothing is to say but at the moment Babel is the un known quantity where as Huntalaar is already 'established' imo

zlatanov

I agree on babel being an unknown quantity but don't see how Huntelaar is an established player already. yes, he's more "proven" than Babel if you look at their record in the Dutch Eredivisie but if you look at the big picture, Huntelaar has yet to prove himself in any of the big European leagues and Europe's CL too ... and a couple of goals scored to Kopenhavn and the likes don't count IMO.
