I havent posted here for fw daays now but.... Merry Christhmas to all of you if it's not too late now :)

About transfer rumors, here we go again:
- Milan is close to Oddo, how many times have we heard of this??
-Cassano's agent says he is staying in Madrid, aldough I dont believe that will happen.
-Braida and LIPPI spoted in some talks about something....who knows?
- We have "apparently " signed some young RB from santander....21 years old.
:devf:

Heinze is also mentioned now and then, and then there is Inzaghi from Lazio....

Pajo

sorry, double post...

What would be Inzaghi from Lazio for?? He can't play in Lazio, and he is not worth to be bought by team such as Milan...

Merry Christmas, mrki.

I guess you are referring to Leandro Grimi but he's a LB/left wingback from Racing Club (Argentina) not Racing Santander.
One for the future, I guess. At around 2 mil, I guess he's a risk worth taking.
here's the guy in question:

£2.8m for Cassano isnt bad.. considering Roma paid arround £18 mill for him..i would say go for it, well considering he cant play in champ league.. do we have a squad cap of 25 for Seria A?

Tony29.

do we have a squad cap of 25 for Seria A?
No, you can have more than 25 players available for serie A. There's a limit only for non-EU players in Serie A.
Which leads me to a question for Zlatanov : Can this Argentinian guy Grimi play for Milan this season ?

as Bosniaco already mentioned, he does have a Eu passport - he either already has it or is very close to getting it. So, yeah he will be eligible to play for Milan both in Serie A and CL.
I would guess that, with Grimi being a left back/wingback, he would take either Favalli's or, depending on his condition, Serginho's place on the roster.

Thanx very much. I just read the same thing on channel4.
How do these South Americans get EU passports so easy is really beyond me. I live for more than 30 years in Europe and i don't have a EU passport, while some 21 years old annonimous from some Argentinian village has one.
Mascherano has EU passport, this guy has EU passport and another 10-20 players came to play football in Europe with EU passport in last year.
I have the feeling they all get their passports the same way Recoba got his :)

Graeme C

a lot of european emigrants - mostly italians, french and germans - went to South America (mainly Argentina and Brazil) during and shortly after WWII.
that's how these players get EU passports, through their parents and grandparants.

Yes, and he's certanly a huge talent.
He started his profesional cariere only 4 months ago, and he's allready getting the interest of Milan.
I feel he may become something big and well known in football.

Looooooooool, both of you with the same answer.
As you know, i'm very well informed about history :D
It was just a joke i made.

EDIT : And a huge number of Europeans went to Uruguay also ;)
EDIT #2 : And some of the bad ones went to Paraguay :) . Paraguay was not obligated to give them to their "hunters"...but it's a long story and it's not a transfer story ( although some goverments did ask for transfers of some people from Paraguay) :)

whether he's a huge talent and most importantly whether he will be the 1 in 10 talanted players, who manage to realize their talent, is yet to be seen.
it's true though that he must have done something right to attract Milan's attention after only several months on Racing's first team - I checked wikipedia for the roster of player at Racing and the guy wasn't even on it.
Hoping for the best but even if he doesn't live up to the expectations, with his price being around 2 mil, Milan won't be breaking the bank.

So if this guy is a LB, we still are up for Oddo right?? We need solution for the RB place!

zlatanov
27-12-2006, 16:15
I would think so. we do need a LB anyway since right now only Janku is a viable option for that post. By getting Oddo as well, we would free up Simic and Bonera for CD and that way we won't really need to buy a new CD in the winter market when there won't be many, if any, quality players available to begin with.

Tony29.

You can take Zebina :D
I can't stand those guys on juventuz.com crying like babies because there are no more rumours of Zebina leaving Juve and joining Milan.

P.S : Oddo will be your next RB Marko. I wouldn't worry about that. It's a done deal, imo ;)

well, they do have a point after all :D

P.S. I also think Oddo to Milan is only a question of days. Right now both sides are trying to get on top of one another but a deal is imminent as, if I am not wrong, Lazio's salary policy has a cap of half a mil/season or so and that kind of money won't keep a player like Oddo there ... and his current contract expires in the summer, I think, so they risk to lose him for nothing very soon.

Grimi? Are they kidding? Grimi is absolutely one of the worst backs in Argentina, trust me. At least among starters.

No, really. Are they serious? Are they now going after argentineans because of Inter's success?

Grimi is going back to Argentina after 3 games, and they are paying 2M Euros. Inexcusable.

I love Milan, but they are looking bad here. Really bad.

Of course. He is so bad that I cant put it into words. And he is about to join Milan. And its not just an opinion, theres no chance this guy succeds. Some may like Cassano, some may say he isnt so good. But the guy has talent and has a chance to be a useful player. Well, Grimi has no chance. Trust me. He isnt a good defender and neither good while attacking. He might be slightly above average with dead balls, but Milan has Pirlo, Kaka and others that are better than him. He isnt a big body, nor he has good strength to hold his position.
If Im playing tomorrow against Milan and Grimi, my game plan would be "attack that guy".

It must be a joke. Not even Racing's fans would tell you he is good. And not Milan good, he isnt even good to play for Racing. Go figure.

If you want to probe, somewhat, how bad this guy is go to Argentina's only sports paper (www.ole.com.ar). The front cover says "Grimi to Milan. No, its not an April Fool's day joke"

Enough said.

By referring to that "april fool's day joke", they are not implying that he is an awful player but that he is just a 21 yo kid with only 15 games in the Argentinian first division, who will soon be playing alongside great players like Cafu, Kaka, Pirlo, Inzaghi, etc in one of the best teams in the world ... something that is like living in the fairy tales for a kid like him, who has very little experience in first-flight football in general and until several months ago was playing in the lower divisions.

So, maybe it's better to say more than read between the lines ;).

I don't know what others may have or may have not said about him ... I am simply correcting you on your, may I say, "biased" interpretation of the above article, which in no way meant to describe him Grimi as a bad player ... an unexperienced and unknown player yes, but in no means a bad one.

As for what he is really capable of, I would rather wait and judge him on his perfomances for Milan becuase at such an early age and lack of experience and confidence - he's had just 15 games in 1st division for his entire career, after all - a lot of misjudgements may take place regarding a player's talent and potential ... turning in several unimpressive/bad perfomances are no guarantee that he, in time, won't flourish and realize his potential. You know, kind of like that story about the ugly duckling.

either way, getting him may be a gamble but whatever happens with him, he won't be a financial burden to Milan.

EDIT: As for those forum posters making fun of Grimi, well, I am sure you will find MM members making fun of Ronaldinho even and many other established players ... it's just fans' opinion i.e. objectivity is hardly a first priority ;)

I dont read here people making fun of Kaka, Pirlo, Gattuso, or even Simic. His own fans are laughing at this in disbelief.
I have even watched him playing Serie B ball, and he wasnt good either. I know this wont be a financial burden to Milan, but its a shame. They say "No" to Oddo because he is expensive and they are about to pay 2M Euros for a player they could have gotten for next to nothing and isnt an interesting prospect.

after a long abscense, i had to come back when i saw this...
to say just ..

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HAHAHHAHAH HAHHAHA

NO WAYYY

Hey, i can offer Galliani Almagro's RB, he comes from playing in 5th division, he might want him....we'll give him for free...or why not all our defenders hahah

And another thing, this guy comes from Huracan, not really the best club if we talk about young teams...

so, without experience in first division, and...well...no talent =P what in the hell do they found on him?

BUT......

Remember Zanetti..he wasnt that good..or that famous..and came from a smaller club tha Racing, from Banfield (yuck)..and originary started playing football in Talleres de Escalada, on 3rd division...

so
we ll have to see...right now , the only thing we can do is....

Milan is getting closer and closer to signing Oddo by the day. In italian papers they treat this as an almost done deal, so not really sure what you meant by "saying NO to Oddo".

As for people here not making fun of Gattuso, Pirlo, or whoever else apart from Kaka, I think you speaking more out of wishful thinking and not what's been written in these forums, or any other in that matter - Milan players, Gattuso, Pirlo, Cafu, Dida etc being mocked at by their own fans is like a national sport here, especially now in this difficult for Milan period.
It's present all over the place even here on MM, and this is one of the most moderated forums you could find because forum rules have been adjusted so that insulting and deriding players is very limited. Go visit other Milan forums and you won't believe your eyes at the insults that are being thrown at players like Pirlo, Dida, Nesta and others. Fans are rarely fair and objective, you know (for proof, take a look at the post above yours ;))

Anyways, I am digressing a bit from the main point here. I am not gonna say that I am thrilled by Milan signing a completely unknown player like Grimi but let's at least give him a chance or two to prove what he's worth and then start judging him.

When a player isnt ready for a team like Milan, theres no way to spin it. If Grimi is a productive player and stays in Milan for more than 2 seasons, I wont post again for being a jerk. But theres no chance of it happening.

pa7uel
28-12-2006, 01:01
Oh, and another thing...

this thing might have been going since some time ago, but the thing is Milan wouldn buy any player from Argentinian 2cond division...so they sell Grimi to Racing so he can be sold to Milan after playing in first division.
Something like this (or the same) happened to former Tigre (3rd then, now 2nd division) player Carlos Luna, who played 2 or 3 games and not even in the starting line for Racing last year...and then was sold to some european club, i dont remember or so.

Sometimes players dont need to play good, just a good manager.

anyway

well, here is one other thing - you are assuming that Milan are looking at using Grimi in the first team from day one.
What if, and there's a good chance it will happen, the plan behind all this is to keep him around till the summer as a just-in-case back up and then loan him out to another serie A team to "prep" him a little more before he gets his chance to prove if he's Milan material or not ... sort of what we did with Coloccini.

If you consider this very plausible option, getting Grimi all of a sudden doesn't look so pointless and laughable, does it?

Its laughable because he isnt a good prospect, whats so hard to understand? If you want me to put it more clear, he would be a mid-late second rounder in an NBA draft. Understand the point? He has no chance of turning out to be a very good player. You dont need to watch a player 1000 times to know if he is good or not. You can watch Kaka 10 minutes and you know he is a difference maker. You watch Grimi 10 minutes and you want to hang yourself.

Are all the people down with the Oddo deal? I am not. I don't want to give up a potential player, Foggia, and spend 7 mil on Oddo. Oddo was a Milan player and now we shoot our foot to get him back when we had the chance to keep him when he was younger. I think mistake shouldn't be repeated here. Brocchi was another example. I can only hope that we offer half of the ownership of Foggia with Lazio... not to sell him to get Oddo... you know...

As for Grimi... I have no idea and I haven't heard of him until today. I don't know if he would be great but I only remember all the young defenders Milan bought throughout, say, Coloccini, Ayala (Maybe not a good example here), N'gotty, Lausen (Maybe he could be a good player but he's too injury prone), a Brazilian named Julio Cesar I think... plus Pablo Garcia, Ba, De Acenstis, Guinti, Saudati, Commandini, Graffiedi, Jose Mari, Javi Moreno... man, I think I make my stand here... so I don't think Milan has any luck getting young defenders who turn out to be great! I don't have great expectation but I will keep my eyes open and hope for the best.

Oddo was a Milan player and now we shoot our foot to get him back when we had the chance to keep him when he was younger. .
Good point.
I think Milan missed out on Oddo when they sold him to Verona at first place, and then again when they didn't buy him back after Verona got relegated.
Camoranesi and Oddo were both having fantastic season at Verona when the team was relegated. They played great but just the two of them weren't enough to keep the team in A.
Juve took their chance with annonimous, unproven but very talented Camoranesi, while Milan decided not to get back to 26 years old Oddo and they let him go to Lazio. Instead Milan bought 33 years old Caffu.
I'm not saying Caffu was a mistake. Of course he wasn't and he's a better player than Oddo. But he wasn't someone for the future, while Oddo has proven his qualities in Verona, he was still very cheap due to Verona's relegation and he could have covered the RB position in Milan.
But mistakes happen, and you're right they shouldn't be repeated !

Good point.
I think Milan missed out on Oddo when they sold him to Verona at first place, and then again when they didn't buy him back after Verona got relegated.

It may be a stretch to say we lost out when selling him to Verona, he was then currently a serie B class player and we couldn't just loan him out to them forever to let them develop him... When Verona was relegated he was still considered as a big risk in defense, but it couldbe claimed we made a mistake at that time.

don't complain about the Cafu deal when we made it, unless you do it as a Juve fan. He was very important in taking the scudetto and we got him for FREE. That we later failed to cover or replace him is another problem.

']Its laughable because he isnt a good prospect, whats so hard to understand? If you want me to put it more clear, he would be a mid-late second rounder in an NBA draft. Understand the point? If you want to keep any credibility do not ever claim 20 year old player have no chance of turning into a very good player. There are so many examples it is mindnumbing and that even of players none believed in. There is always a chance, maybe not this year or the next, maybe even he take the step in four years. You never know.

That said, this deal does not make much sense, while he is not much of a risk I can only think that we don't really care much for this position with this addition. Quite sad to see a 18 year old Brazilian national like Marcelo going to Real Madrid while we sign a 20 year old who hardly is wet behind his ears.

when there are playings in Italy like Mesto, Pasqual, Chivu, etc we go for some randomly unknown player who hasnt even played 1 yr of professional football.. for crying out loud, whats happening with the milan management? i hope for the sake of milan that this deal doesnt go through..

Like most likely half the posters in this forum you seem to lack perspective. Chivu and Pasqual are not players you can get for €2M and then put them on the bench. Pasqual is someone we would buy to replace Jankulovski, which there is not need for.

If you want to keep any credibility do not ever claim 20 year old player have no chance of turning into a very good player. There are so many examples it is mindnumbing and that even of players none believed in. There is always a chance, maybe not this year or the next, maybe even he take the step in four years. You never know.

but a Milan player must run immediately or he will go away as it has happened with Oddo and Vieira

He will most likely have until the sumemr to prove himself, I never said anything contrary to that. I just said that itis foolish to claim a player can't improve. In fact the two players you mentioned is two great examples of players who did improve a lot, especially Oddo since he was not as highly rated as Vieira.

So Grimi will have until the summer to prove himself, after that it is likely that he will go out on loan or be used in a trade deal unless he did succed.

Well i dont think Grimi can be that bad, or no prospective player, and be bought by Milan. Milan has a lots of quality trainers and scouts and my guess they found something in him, he isnt the class of Kaka to play in the first squad, but after a year or two in italian football maybe he´ll become a good player. Milan isnt chairity institution to give 2 mil € just like that...

But time will show who is wright and who is wrong...

kris. there is difference between the case of Oddo & Vieira and the last Grimi : at that time the role were well covered -Tasso or Desailly - now you can't say the same. This is the main reason why I don't like every 2 m. purchase NOW in this situation.
Anyway I think (and hope) Grimi it's only a joke.

Looks like Grimi is coming, from channel4.com:

In the meantime, Leandro Grimi is expected to land in Milan on Thursday, where he will sign a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old Argentine, who arrives with the added bonus of an EU passport, grew up in the Huracan youth team before moving to Racing Avellaneda this year, when he was voted as the best young player in the Apertura tournament.

“Joining an important club like Milan is a dream come true, I am very happy,” stated Grimi before leaving Argentina.

if the above is true, he can't be as bad as some are making him to be.
Also, lots of people are a bit too quick to jump on the trash-grimi wagon ASSUMING - nothing new here - they know every single detail of what Milan is planning to do with this player.
Right now the guy is nothing more of a young player with prospect for the future. Just because we got him, it doesn't mean we will immediately throw him in the first team and replace Sergio or Maldini with a totally unknown and unproven player. Chances are, he will stay at Milan till the summer and then will go out on loan to gain experience.
Whether he turns out to be the next best thing since sliced bread or not, we could still use him in the future just like we did with players like Sam Dalla Bona, Boriello, etc, etc.

well, later on that same Garcia took by storm the Primera and even earned himself a transfer to Real M.
so, while not Milan first team quality, he turned out to be not such a bad player after all. Such players may be very useful when included as part of the deal for other, better players.

If he was voted the best young player in the Apertura tournament he can't possibly be as poor as some people are making out and please get over this obsession with signing young players and loaning them out immediately. We heard the same thing when Kaka' and Gourcuff signed and they went into the first team straight away. Everyone knows we need to build for the future so Grimi will get chances this season. I expect he needs to put a few hours in the gym first as judging from his weight he seems light for a centre back.

Its a false report. Thats not true.
And I know it because I follow the league, but even if you dont know about the argentinean league it would only take common sense to realize that Gago or Higuain or Mauro Zarate (Inter after him, they seem to know what they are doing) would have taken that award. But there isnt such award in Argentina and Grimi wasnt a top 10 player for Racing last season during the Apertura. And we are talking about a team sport consisting on 11 starters.

Obviously most of the people here havent watched Grimi and thats why they are taking a "wait and see" approach. Cant blame them. But the only thing you can hope with Grimi is that he isnt a blackhole for Milan and turns out to be an OK player. He doesnt have a chance to be special.
I wouldnt be surprised if Milan loans him out in june and never see him back in red and black.
Its hard to picture a Milan scout recommending Grimi. There must be something going on between managers, agents, etc.

Its all about quality. Milan is about quality. Im 19 and I would also reduce our team's average age, but thats not the point or Milan's goal.

Also there is a big difference between South America and Europe: a 21 years old player in Argentina, for example, already has 100 Serie A games while in Europe a 21 years old guy often is considered a young guy with little to none experience.

New Milanista Hopes To Follow In Paolo's Footsteps... New AC Milan signing Leandro Grimi would like to become the Rossoneri’s ‘next Maldini’

The 21-year old defender made this bold statement after undergoing his medical with the European giants in Milan today.

“The other dream I have already came true. Being at Milan and playing with all these champions is something really amazing,’ he added.
AC Milan signed Grimi from Argentina’s Racing Avellaneda.

One question: Milan sees Grimi as a young player, with great potential. So why would they cancel his transfer even if he cant arrive now? What could happen in 6 months for not to sign this exciting prospect (LOL)?
Maybe they arent that retarded after all....

zlatanov
29-12-2006, 12:03
who says they have or are about to cancel the contract altogether?
Also, who says Milan sees him as the next Maldini? Isn't it possible that Milan is just trying to come up with a temporary solution for LB, who has two major pluses - he's cheap and he's available. Plus, a player as young as him, could always be used as a make-weight in future deals (like Donati, Dalla Bona, etc).

Milan needs a LB for the rest of the season and that's as clear as a sunny day.
With Sergio injured most probably for the rest of the season and Favalli being pretty much constantly injured, Janku is the only alternative we have on the left apart from semi-fit options like Maldini and Kaladze, who are needed in CD anyway.

Grimi not having this passport changes things a lot since he won't be available for the second half of the season, so we would have to find another player to relieve Janku at LB from time to time. If that were to happen, Grimi may be let go for now since we are hardly willing to make a collection of LBs just for the fun of it and watch the numbers grow.

Still, there is the possibility to leave Grimi to another Italian team and get him next year as a "communitario" player from them. These things however need time to be negotiated beforehand, as other teams have made their own transfer plans by now.

Of course, there is always the chance Milan could let Grimi stay at Racing for the rest of the season but again, we need a LB now and not 6 months from now.

']So let me rephrase it: Why is Milan making a move for him?
this is something that has been mentioned a number of times in this thread.
get him now, loan him out and see what happens out of him. If he turns out to be an average player, given his young age, he could well be used as a make-weight in deals for other players.

ALso we do need a LB - a reliever for Janku - and we need him right now for the rest of the season. For that reason he has to be cheap and available, which pretty much excludes all very good or even just good players out there.
To put it in another way, Grimi may very well be seen by Milan as a quick, temporary fix for a LB sub. After that, if he turns out to be something worth keeping, Milan will keep him, if not - we'll have ourselves another Coloccini, Dalla Bona, Donati, etc i.e. we'll just use him as part of another transfer. Either way, it's a win-win situation for us also because the bringing up of a Donati or a Dalla Bona, over the years, costs a lot more than 1.8 mil to a club like Milan.

Furthermore, no one from Milan has said that they are buying him to replace Maldini or Serginho at LB and that he will be in Milan's first team for the next 10-15 years.

btw, these same reasons were in my previous post - the longer one - as well.
for further clarification on these possibilities, you may also wanna reread what "kris" posted earlier in this same thread, although the above should be just about enough.

As you see, if you spend a little more time thinking of possible reasons/explanations and less time on dissing and bashing a player you yourself have hardly seen play or laughing at how stupid Milan management is, a lot of different ideas and options would open up before you.

Peace and have more faith in what Milan are doing.

As far as I can see, he has officially signed for Milan and has already joined the squad for training. However, at the same time, the only mention I can remember seeing on the official site about him is

"Argentine Leandro Grimi also trained with the team this morning and Simic commented: 'I haven't seen him play yet so I can't make a judgement but he has settled in well.'"

and from Carlo

"Willy Aubameyang is fast, good in front of goal with the header. The future of the young players is always under consideration. Grimi is also young, he is with us in Malta and is older than Aubameyang and more experienced but needs to develop. We are fine going into the Reggina game, we have trained intensely but the team is charged up.".

I mean why? Is it his age or is it that he sucks? If it's his age, I dont think it's a big issue. Real presented Marcelo, Gago, and Higuain officially and they are all young and are expected to make some impact in the first team. As for Grimi, if he is indeed "Milan material" then why not present him properly? If he is not Milan material, then why on earth did we sign him? To help our youth team win trophies?

Grimi right now in my opinion is not fit to play in Milan.
Maybe if he gets some Calcio experience he might become a player for Milan, and if he doesnt, just come back to Argentina to continue his career in a medium class club like happens with many.

In his case this wouldnt be a failure, because as i said earlier, he wasnt expected to be anything special and he is not a great talent.

Grimi shines in Milan debut Tuesday 9 January, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New signing Leandro Grimi impressed in Milan’s 5-0 friendly victory in Malta, while Pippo Inzaghi bagged a brace.

The Rossoneri hope to rediscover their form in this winter training jaunt in the warmth of the island and have shown signs of recovery.

Maltese champions Birkirkara were thrashed at the Ta Quali stadium in La Valletta in a test ahead of Thuesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-finals against Arezzo.

Ricardo Oliveira opened the scoring on Andrea Pirlo’s assist, followed after the break by Clarence Seedorf, long-term injury casualty Giuseppe Favalli and two from Inzaghi.

All eyes were on January signing Grimi and the Argentine performed well when he came on for the second half.

He was focused and eager to impress, but it looks as if the South American will need several weeks before he can be match fit and ready for a Serie A debut.

The 21-year-old left-back was playing his first game in a Milan jersey since his switch from Racing Club was completed

And here's some more from the official site.

Leandro Grimi has started his Milan career when the full-back came on at the start of the second half in the friendly against Birkirkara in Malta on Tuesday evening. The 21-year-old Argentine could not hide his delight and said: 'It's very exciting to play in the Milan shirt.' The first 45 minutes for the Rossoneri may not have been against the toughest opposition, but it is the starting point and the youngster showed he has the potential.

Grimi came on at left-back and then moved over to the centre of defence after around 20 minutes. The San Lorenzo-born player looked comfortable in this position and hit a number of long passes for Aubameyang, with one of them resulting in Pippo Inzaghi getting on the end of a knock-down to score his second goal. He revealed that he bases his game on Paolo Maldini's although the two have yet to play alongside each other as the captain only played the first half.

Dario Simic has been impressed with Grimi even after only two days of training and he said: 'Leandro has settled in well, it seems as if he is used to it already.' Already voted the best young player in the opening part of the Argentine league, Grimi will offer Carlo Ancelotti plenty of options in defence although the coach maintains that the player needs at least a month to settle into the squad. However, after that we will be hearing a lot more about young Leandro.

I think the official announcement about this transfer won't be made until he gets the EU passport but I guess this is only a technicality.

It's early to judge him now, we have to wait AT LEAST until the end of this season to see how good he is, assuming he gets enough chances to make an impact

Thinking that Milan wants Marek to be our 1st LB, and that Serginho will stay for next year also. Favalli will clearly leave us in the end of this season. He is pretty old, I dont know how much but not less than 35, and he has been injured a lot.
So far, from people that saw Grimi, I heard that he is not exactly Milan material player, so maybe he will only be a backup for Jankulovski-Serginho for next season.

Finally, we hear something on the official site. That's all I wanted, at least acknowledge the guy, otherwise what's the point? But I think Milanista is right, I get the sense that the transfer is not "officially" completed yet, so maybe we'll hear more. But I do want to see what this kid can do though. Not in friendlies, but in serie a or coppa italia games. We should give him a chance and at least we'll get to see how good our scouts really are :)

It seems his transfer hasn't been cleared yet, but I assume that shouldn't take too long now.

Oh and for people that like numbers, Grimi's jersey number is 24.

He has been loaned to Sporting with a buy-out option..Hmmmm...Though I have to say, I haven't really been impressed with his performance so far
