Since I am not very much into movies and stuff so I watched goal the movie only a few days ago. It is no doubt a very great movie but I just wanted to ask if this player Santiago Munez is a real player or just a movie character and is this story real based or not. Plus I have heard about the releasing of Goal 2, so does anyone knows anything about that movie is it a sequel of goal 1. How about you people liked this movie or not.

The main character in Goal isn't a real player, he's just an actor (though he probably likes football and can play a bit) and so is the guy with blond-ish hair in Goal 2. Neither of them are real players and it's not based on a true story or anything.

The Goal films are a trilogy, after the newly released second film there will be a final third film and naturally they all follow the rise and success of the main guy. I would imagine the third film finds the guy at the bottom, down on his luck and then rises back to the top again :rollani: These things are usually that predictable :D

I haven't seen either film, though i saw a clip of Goal 2 where Beckham takes a corner and it falls to the guy near the edge of the box and he volleys it into the top corner. The way that was filmed and shot was enough to make me not want to see either film. However Anna Friel could tempt me to watch them, she's lovely

yes in Goal 2 he plays for Real Madrid so if hes rising to the top he will play for Milan no? or his country in the WC or something.

they're just actors playing ficticious characters surrounded by some reallistic scenarios... the guy who plays "Santiago" is Mexican actor Kuno Becker...

just an interesting note, that guy is also a great violin player... he spent years studying in Vienna's Conservatory, before doing soap operas and now movies...

Its funny this thread appeared today as i actually watched most of the original for the first time yesterday, largely for that reason

The rest of the film is really quite poor though, its the same cliche they had as far back as Rocky, the football scenes are less realistic than escape to victory and the cameo's are all terrible, they directors clearly didnt trust the real players to do anything more than say their own names :dielaugh:

Yes it was cliched & trite, I knew the outcome from the beginning pretty much. That said, I still liked it, if only as it was a nice break from all the football, baseball, etc movies that we are bombarded with.

It's not as good as Shaolin Soccer!

The perfect blend of kung-fu action and football :D
