should be a good tournament once the weak nations have been despatched. Its going to last 2 months though isnt it?

I'd like to say England have a chance but i dont think we'll make it beyond the quarters, India look a good bet but in all honesty it is so open it really could be won by any of 6 or 7 teams :)

I'd be surprised if we get out the group stages! We're hopeless at the moment, no one is in form and our bowlers aren't firing.

Looking forward to it!

:eekani: what r u saying man???? U guys just beat Australlia at their home without ur captain and Marcus Threscothick. England could be in the semies but they need Michael Vaugh leading from the front. Plus how Hoggard and Harmison can't bowl at ODIs is mind blowing :zany: English bowlig have to be spot on and Fredy should be Red Hot for the better of England

Lara - When its time to retire he will show the world what he is capable of and Tendulkar was and always will remain second to him.

Herschelle Gibbs smashes 6 sixes in one over!!!!!!!!!! First player to ever do that in a one day international!!!! Amazing stuff. It was against the Netherlands, but still, it's an amazing accomplishment.

LOL To show how uninterested in cricket I am...England vs New Zealand was at max 5 minutes from my home and I never even considered going. Of course if that was AC Milan vs <insert random team here>, I'd be there with a VIP ticket :D

Looks like Pakistan could be making a very early exit, they look set to lose again, this time to Ireland! Add to that Bangladesh also looking set to beat India and we certainly have a day of upsets in this cricket world cup!

I was very surprised by Pakistan, Ireland only have 1 good player and he chose play for England instead :D

It means NZ should walk into the semi's now, and makes me even more annoyed that England managed to mess up so badly against NZ last week

England - Canada and Oz - Holland today and there *shouldnt* be any upsets

England have dropped Flintoff for the match against Canada. Unless he's injured, i can't see the point in that move. Yes he's been poor with the bat but he's still our best bowler, so you might aswell move him down the order and drop someone else instead ... like Dalrymple. Plus against Canada, you'd hope the struggling players might be able to find a bit of form with the bat.

No doubt we'll struggle to beat this lot aswell.

Jim_UK
18-03-2007, 09:17
I heard about some of the English guys going out to a nightclub but i was unaware Flintoff was part of it, so now i know why he's been dropped being the vice captain and all that.

Does make you wonder if the English team is out there to win or just out there to have a good time, i kind of think it's the latter.

yeah Flintoff is being punished most as he is seen as the ringleader, he is expected to set a better example than he has been. Hopefully it will make him focus on the job he is supposed to be doing rather than buying in to his own 'Freddie' myth, much as i like Flintoff i do feel he has been trading off his past glories a bit too much in the past year....

Very sad news that Bob Woomer passed away :depress: Pak-Cricket is passing through its darkest era :sob: I guess the only way to brings things back on track and bring back those glory days is to appoint the legendary Imran Khan as the PCB chairman :5ok: There is not a second option

My prediction for cricket fans ;) India will not qualify for the next round just like Pakistan. Maybe England as well. I said that Pakistan might lose a match against one of the smaller sides and it happened. Now its India and Englands turn. More likely of these twon to go out is India :bri:

England should make it, but i do expect us to go out in the quarters unless we can stop this annoying problem of only 1 players playing well per game

India are in trouble and need to beat Sri lanka but they have an excellent record against them recently. If they do beat Sri lanka it might revitalise them and propel them towards winning the whole tournament

Congratulations to Malinga, 4 wickets in 4 balls is a fantastic achievment. I still hate his bowling action though, technically because his arm apparently doesn't bend more than the regulated amount it's a legitimate bowling action, but i still find it ridiculous it's allowed. Why wasn't he coached to bowl normally? Arm straight like a windmill, not like a baseball pitcher!

17-04-2007, 03:07
Well 2 be honest, I feel its a very boring world cup not bcoz my country is not there any more but the atmosphere of the stadia of WI, No crowd  Its very disappointing bcoz I thaught it to be one of the best World Cups. WC 92, WC 96 and WC 99 were really exciting and made alot of cricket fans worldwide. Last 2 worldcups have been below power :bri:

Stezagud
17-04-2007, 08:57
I didnt think England would win today and from what i've seen of the opening overs i am even less confident

South Africa are really up for this and i dont think England can match their intensity, though there is always hope :D

I agree Zeekay, the tournament has been poor, even the Windies didnt get sell out crowds and im sure the lack of support has helped kill their chances. I heard that they were charging a fortune for tickets and that normal people couldnt afford to watch the matches, if thats the case then it is a horrendous miscalculation, Windies cricket is already in a slump and this could set them back another decade.

Jim_UK
17-04-2007, 09:06
It doesn't really feel like a world cup does it. Just another meaningless competition that is destined for an Aussie victory. Alongside the over pricing of tickets i heard that they were banning instruments aswell, way to spoil an atmosphere.

I don't think England will win today unless the top order bat incredibly well ... and judging by the first few overs we'll be all out for 100 i expect. Bell's wicket was already hit by the ball but the bail never came off!

Ghost
17-04-2007, 12:26
England going out today, kind of summed up the whole world cup.

Jim_UK
17-04-2007, 14:34
an absolute disgraceful performance from England. Crap with the bat and crap with the ball. Only Bopara, Monty & Collingwood should come out of this unscathed, Pietersen & Nixon a little less so, but everyone else have been rubbish. What a completly gut-less display against South Africa, letting a nothing bowler like Hall take 5 wickets. I'd like to think it might be different when the tests start, the bowling will be at least with Harmison, Hoggard & possibly Broad or Jones to come in ... but Cook aside the batting will be exactly the same! Heaven help us!

Ghost
17-04-2007, 15:06
I dont know why board didnt play? Im not sure whats up with Hoggard? I know Harminsons retired at such a young age, god knows whats happening with Simon jones, you know when England fix up and are at full strength they can be such a great team but god knows whats happening with half the team.

Oh yeh kick out Flintoff, Vaughan and Mahmood.

Jim_UK
17-04-2007, 15:16
Harmison quit the one day side and i think Hoggard has aswell, either that or he wasn't picked. Both will still play at test level. Simon Jones finally got back to bowling after an 8 over spell for Glamorgan in a friendly recently, his first overs since his injury in the 2005 ashes

Loudon could make a test call up and there's another spinner who's supposed to be pretty handy, but i forget his name.

Stezagud
17-04-2007, 15:51
The test side isnt bad at all, Broad and Tremlett both have potential to add to Harmison, Hoggard and Jones. Freddie is worth keeping around for his bowling too though he clearly needs a bit of batting practise. I've been thinking we should send him in last for a while, that way the duck is expected and if he does happen to smash a few runs then they are a bonus :D

The batting is more suited to tests as they can have all the overs they wont to mope around getting a feel for the game. Cook has a great mentality fixes the opener problem. Trescothick could even make a return if we send him to Derren Brown for a week or 2, he'd either come back as a world class batsman or thinking he's a chicken, its a chance worth taking :D Apparently he smashed 19 (?!) sixes in a warm up game vs Devon recently

Jim_UK
17-04-2007, 15:58
Yeah Trescothick got a huge score, double century i think and cook got 140+ in the MCC match. Though obviously these are just warm-ups.

On a side note, Somerset will have an amazing opening pair in Trescothick & Langer (Justin Langer) ...

OMG WI is COMPLETE RUBBISH without Lara!!!
The reason why the WC didn't have crowds is because the tickets were too expensive and the ICC has on numerous occasione disrespected Caribbean people and has been harsh with them. Their security guards have roughed up one of Trinidad's most famous sports Journalists because he said that the food was poor (it really was we saw pictures of it :eekani: )

Naturally they save the best match of the World Cup so far to last :D

Finally a decent atmosphere, instruments and generally anything to make a noise was allowed in and a big crowd! Obviously all there to see BC in action in his last game, but none-the-less, a great spectacle. Which was rewarded with a fantastic game by two teams with nothing to play for!

A little less pressure and it was big hitting and comical run outs all round! Not alot of great bowling from either side it has to be said, but some good fielding (Bravo & Flintoff for shying the stumps) capped off by Collingwood's catch of the tournament!

Gayle finally came to life, as did Vaughn and Pietersen carried on his routine of getting a good score then trying to smash the ball out of the leather stitching and getting out rather stupidly  Still, made for a great game and right down to the last couple of deliveries. Naturally i'm glad we won, after losing to Sri Lanka on the last few balls, it was a bit of redemption. However, both teams were poor through-out the tournament and need a serious looking at in the ODI form.

I'll also be glad when the Test series starts and we get some decent bowlers back and see the back of Mahmood, Plunkett and Anderson all playing together.
