View Full Version : Will Inter face any sanctions?
Warro Bantan

With the power that Inter now has with the FIGC, will they be punished for the Suazo incident, as well as the whole issue of finances as had surfaced earlier this past season?
This artice:Click here (http://football.guardian.co.uk/breakingnews/feedstory/0,,-6723049,00.html) implies that had certain revalations been made before, they would not have been allowed to compete in the Serie A last season:
"Financial balance would have been lost if the club had shown the losses connected to the fictitious capital gains and Inter would not have fitted the parameters asked for by Covisoc for registration in the 2005-06 championship," the commission said in a statement.
Now when one combines the two glaring examples of rule breaking, with the fact that Inter now has more power in Italian football, (arguably) than Juve had at the pinnacle of the Moggi era, how can anyone conclude that they will face any but the softest of slaps on the wrist?
Can you imagine however, if it were Milan, or Juve so implicated? We would be banned from Serie A competition for at least a year (if not demoted to Serie B, which, would be better than not being able to play at all), as well as barred from making any transfers for 100 years!
With financial transperancy becoming increasingly important, it is unconcionable that Inter would/could get away with this, on top of their flagrant disregard for the transfer regulations...but maybe that is how the "cookie crumbles" in Italy nowadays.
Milan were also mentioned in the financial irregularities case, but moreso from a transfer standpoint, again, involving Inter, and Morattidiot.
Anyone with any details of what is currently the thinking in Italy re possible sanctions for Inter? :dontkn:
Will Inter´s scudetto be rescinded? :grinser: Doubt it, but lets see...the article goes further to state:
Roberto Mancini's side won last season's title on the pitch rather than a court room and so far there is no suggestion from official bodies that the club will face a serious sporting sanction as a result of the transfer probe.
How pathetic can the FIGC get? :rollani:

i hope they do, the FIGC would have to be a) very stupid, and b) very naive if they hadnt noticed the only club that gained from the calciopoli was Inter.
In fairness terms if Inter have fiddled there books, that is alot worse than what Milan were punished for. If your going to punish one team, you have to do it to all.
If Inter arent punished then there should be outcry in Italy, and if there allowed to stay the reputation of Italy football would take another dent..
Think Viera and co saying we didnt belong in Champ league, they really cant talk can they..

Does anyone know the extent of our involvement?
Warro Bantan
20-06-2007, 15:40
Hasan, as far as I understand, we were implicated in some "strange" transfers between Inter and ourselves, with some forgery or alleged forgery of player signatures, for inflated fees...(between Inter and ourselves) but again, based on what I can recall, nothing much came of it, if anything....
The other financial issues Inter are facing have less to do with transfers, and more to do with false accounting, ie making the club appear to have more assests (for example) than it really does...whereas the transfer specific issue insofar as they are concerned at present, is about Suazo.
I would say that Milan has not been implicated following the investigations into those "over-priced" player transfers...but I could be wrong...what leads me to believe this now, is that were we even remotely guilty, Inter would ensure that we got as severe a punishment as could be justified.

Yeah most news outlets are saying that although we're being investigated, the observation (Financial balance would have been lost if the club had shown the losses connected to the fictitious capital gains and Inter would not have fitted the parameters asked for by Covisoc for registration in the 2005-06 championship,' the commission said in a statement) applies only to Inter. God willing.

Could Inter be demoted?
Wednesday 20 June, 2007
Lawyers warn that Inter could be demoted to Serie B if the financial scandal is proved in the sporting courts!
The club has been named as part of an investigation into creative accounting in Serie A and a member of the Covisoc – the association that performs financial checks on Italian clubs – accused them of fiddling their 2005-06 accounts with artificially inflated player values, known as plusvalenze.
We are also mentioned, but it seems that the charges against us are of lesser consequence than those against Inter.... :diablo:
Please god almighty send them to Seria B
Look at the other side also, my first thought was tha Inter should be regelated because it was the "innocent", the "Saint" in Calciopoli. But think how the champioship will be again. This year without Milan and Juve there was no interest maybe that will happen if now Inter will be regelated? :bri:

Actually relegation for Inter would be disastrous for the league. Serie A would lose its luster (even more) and financially it would be a catastrophe.
Let's just hope they get no punishment, and we dismantle them 6-0 in both derbies next season.

Stripping them of both "titles" would suffice for me...but will that happen? :rollani: Doubt it. Inter are simply too powerful right now..but this remains a football issue, and one thing is certain: Anything is possible in football.

Me too. :)
As much as I hate Inter and hope they they never win a single title in their history.................for the sake of the league and Italian football in general I hope that all this will stop once and for all and let everyone get on with it.

let's just confiscate their fax machine.
demoting them to serie B is bad for Italy but letting them off scot-free is injustice to all the clubs which has been penalised last season.

yea i agree with every1 else here..i hope they dont get denmoted than again every1 will look down on the italian league and milan will have to prove to them again that an italian team is capable or winning a europeon title....
Please god almighty send them to Seria B
But why ?
Wasn't a season without Juve enough for serie A ?
I don't like Inter for what they ( directly or indirectly) have done to my team but i'd hate it to see them suffer as Juve has suffered.
Not every team is Juventus, you know. There is a possibility Inter not to come back as strong as Juve (probably) will, and the league will lose a lot if that happens.
And what will we get if Inter is in B ? We can make fun of our Interisti friends ! Well, we do that anyway.
We can get their players like they did with Juve's players last year and we'll find it easier to win a scudetto. But i don't want someone to say "You won it because Inter wasn't playing in A" and i don't want the league where my team plays to get weaker and weaker.
I'm all for Inter being stripped off their scudetto from 2006 ( i don't want them to lose the one from 2007...they deserved it) and some small -8 or -10 points deduction, but i'm totally against Inter being demoted !

I totally agree with you... Serie A needs stability, not another earthquake. One cannot understimate the extreme damage that scandals like that can bring to the international image of all italian football.

I think it would only be satisfying for 2 seconds to read of Inter's relegation. Then the implications would hit us like a train, and believe me, any which way you cut it, Inter's relegation would be a monumental loss to Italian football. As Tony29 points out, they may struggle to come back up, and Inter, Juve, and Milan are the three teams that keep TV rights (especially now that they will be collective), attendances, interest in Serie A etc. relatively buoyant.
The financial clout of the big 3 is too much for us to ignore.
so much for "clean titles" and angelic Inter are compared to Milan and Juve lol. What doesn't make sense is why Inter took the holier-than-thou attitude last year if they had knowledge of possible wrong-doing. For this reason alone, I think Inter are innocent of wrong doing, or their directors were unaware of wrong doing. And as much as I would like to see them relegated, I have a feeling this is just sensationalism on the part of the media.
And as much as I would love to see Inter in "b", it would hurt Serie A immensely.
a) the star power of the players in Inter would vani from serie A
b) the league will have only one superpower team - Milan, and two semi-powerful teams - Roma and Juve (who are still recovering). As it is, the Serie A is almost like the Scottish Premier League now with a few strong teams and the rest of the league being made up of duds.
Keep Inter in A but strip their last two titles :)
As I have said before about the Moggipoli affair, and I think the same can apply to the present situation as well:
BTW, an obvious but frequently overlooked remark: our beloved AC Milan cannot survive without a strong italian soccer, so we cannot be happy with Juve's current state of affairs... furthermore, I like to win titles on the pitch, not on the tribunals, but fighting against the toughest.
Just remember, folks: without a strong and competitive italian soccer, a strong and competitive Milan cannot exist...
BTW: I'm against the punishment of institutions... individuals must be punished, not institutions! So let's hang Moggi, Meani, etc., but let's put Juventus, Milan, etc. out of that mess!
I want is a general indulgence for all, let's erase the past and move on...
So, my dear friends, that kind of stuff is not an affair to be considered lightly... so I sincerely hope that nothing will happen to Internazionale, let's forget, once and for all, all that crap about investigations and etc., the best thing to do is to conceal everything and move forward, SERIE A NEEDS PEACE AND STABILITY.
lol, inter demoted to serie B? Wont happen, even in dreams...
They may get cash penalty and maybe, just maybe some points deducted - but i think none of it will be. Its inter, they had serie a in 'their hands' this year! Ah well, miracle happens since juve was all over serieA too and got demoted :D
And about suazo - they may get fined and suazo may be banned from playing for some time. Great signing up our a$$ in that case ;)

keep them in seria A, kick them out of champ league and give them a -30 start for up comming season plus huge fine.

So they rob the last 2 scudetto's from us by fingering us with Juve, and you want to let it slide. This Moratti is worse than his father, and should be made to suffer for robbing us of what is rightfully ours. Serie B for a season will do nicely for them.

How did they rob Milan ?
Excuse my ignorance, please, English isn't my main language and you should know the meaning of the verb better than i do....but doesn't "to rob" mean to steal something that isn't yours but someone elses property.
If that's truly the meaning of this verb, then how could Inter rob the last 2 scudetti from Milan when Milan never actually had them
You know , after what happened to Juve and only Juve (don't tell me the others suffered. Maybe Fiorentina did, but Milan didn't lose much while Lazio even profited from Calciopoli), after Juve and Juve fans were the laughing stock of Italy, after everyone called/call us cheaters, after all the bullcrap from Interisti, one can expect me to give my right hand for Inter to be demoted.
I admit that i would like a satisfaction for all the suffering we've been through but still i don't want anyone to go through what Juve has gone through. I'm an atheist and it has nothing to do with religion and forgiving the sinners. It's my culture that stops me from wishing the worst to the others, be it my worst enemies.
Now, if i as someone who actually did suffer from what Inter did to my team don't want them relegated, why do you guys want that ?
Does "Bilan" hurts so much that you can't get over it ? It's childish !

In all honesty Tony 29, it did occur to me that relegating the gits would be a wonderful thing, even if Italian football would again suffer...(Binter sounds so nice) :D but I agree with you that the implications for Serie A would be too severe...but rules are rules, and if the rules stipulate that their financial manipulation should result in relegation, or worse, being banned for a year...then so be it...
What good are rules if exceptions are made for them time and time again? Or even once...that my friend, creates a precedent, and in legal terms, that pretty much makes the rule quite different in its nature.
Now, I dont wish relegation on them, but as said before, if guilty, they must face the consequences...and again as mentioned above, being banned is worse than relegation, as ALL their players will leave...they will not be able to keep one single player on salary...all players want to play...they would have to loan every one out, at the bare minimum...a true disaster, and a weakend league.
What I maintain, is that there can be no exceptions, and the FIGC will have no choice but to take action, as they will be under the scrutiny of Europe, UEFA, FIFA, and the rest of the world...not to mention the Italian football community (fans, lower league clubs etc).
A personal note though: What did a season without Juve show us:
a) Small sides can make a serious run: Palermo and Empoli
b) Lazio and Fiorentina can challenge
c) A super strong side can gallop away with the title, with their main rivals hobbled by a point penalty, and earlier than usual season start.
This for me didnt make the Serie A uninteresting, and didnt precipitate a mass exodous of players from the Italian penninsula...so my point here is that all wont be lost if Inter do infact get relegated/banned...which we all know wont happen, but what good are blogs if not to speculate somewhat?
I hear you Warro and believe me YES and NO for Inter to be relegated are still fighting inside me.
Any wrong doing should be punished, no questions asked. But first of all you all must remember that the name of A. Galliani is mentioned in the same context with Inter's wrongdoing. Did you forget last year when all of you wished Juve to be relegated, even when some stories about Milan's involvment started circulating around.
What if Galliani and Milan also get a peace of the punishment, like last year ?
I really can't see Inter being relegated or punished anyhow with Milan getting out of the scandal with clean hands.
It's only 1 year after Kui came out with his Calciopoli theory. Kui was right and Milan was punished indeed at the end. I find it really really possible Milan to be punished again , together with Inter.
This is why i was telling you how i don't understand some of you. Juve is ( for now) clean in this story and Juve can only benefit from Inter in serie B and Milan at -10/-20/-30.... and yet i don't want that to happen, while You, whose team actually risks something, wish for Inter to be relegated.
As for didnt precipitate a mass exodous of players from the Italian penninsula... i don't agree.
Directly because of Calciopoli or indirectly : Sheva, Toni, Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Thuram, Emerson left serie A. Imagine Inter relegated ! They won't sell a single player to Milan while Juve and Roma won't be able to buy more than 1 of their players.
Where will Stankovic, Zlatan, Adriano, Crespo, Vieira, Cambiasso, Maicon etc go ?

i agree with both tony and warro. But the rules are rules. Inter should be punished, if they stay in seria A i would like to see them punished so hard that it would be impossible for them to get the scudetto and play in champ league.

I dont think Milan and Inter will be punished even if it was convicted, because it was already punished once, and doing this again will make it looks like a conisperasy and will destroy the Italian football as well (notice that if they were relegated you will never find any forigin player that want to join the Italian championship), I dont know what should they do to punish them but relegating and -pts start is a stupid punishment may be *** financial punishment will be quite fine
This is the best solution :
" Sell Zlatan+Vieira to Milan for 10m euro, sell Stankovic+Maicon to Juve for 10m euro and we won't relegate you.......... Oh and sell Materazzi to Albinoleffe for 5 000 euro"

Sorry bud but your team is also being investigated, and to be honest, the courts probbably wont be as lenient due to the fact you are coming off of a penalized season. You should sell your 3 only good players, kaka gattusso and seedorf. And give the rest of your team to juve so they can get relegated, again!!

Inter are in the most trouble, as they couldn't even participate.
I don't think anything will happen to them, but if there are to be punishments, they will face the most severe consequences.

haha moratti's comment that day is what actually brought the attention to them.. i told you guys that this is gonna get bigger than how it was.. i predict they will get a big money fine but will not lose their scudetto nor get relegated.. milan, juve, lazio, and most of italy will not like it and will keep pushing to get them punished but i dont think anything will happen... the worst case scenario is for them to dock them points for financial fraud and can give the title to Roma..
so ends up Moratti was just actually angry and didn't think twice and just said "we've already signed Suazo!".. what an idiot.. how on earth could inter have an important decision-maker as dumb as him!!
can give the title to Roma..
Not a good move, imo.
What if next year we find out Roma also wasn't innocent. Who's gonna get the scudetto...Chievo ?
That scudetto has only 1 owner - Juventus. And since Juventus was guilty for something (whatever it is) that scudetto shouldn't be asigned to anyone.
Seasons 04/05 and 05/06 should count as non existant !
Goddman all those rules, inquiries and investigations that are disturbing Serie A!
This one is about the transfer of Suazo.
I got this from their web site:
Moratti: ""Until yesterday, the player wanted to join us. Cagliari themselves sent him to us for the medical, asking us to be as quick as possible. I am very surprised by the conclusion of this matter. I'm not sure exactly what the rules say in these cases, but we will fight to the last."
Imagine that, the president of the team that won the scudetto doesnt know the rule. all he wants is to fight to the last.

I've been searching for definitive proof of this, and I have finally found it here:
http://www.tgcom.mediaset.it/sport/articoli/articolo367202.shtml
Granted this site is the mouthpiece of Berlusconi, but it wasn't wrong about Calciopoli and it seems to make sense. It says that if clubs are found guilty of cooking the books, then they risk a fine. However, if a club is SO guilty that they cannot participate in the championship then they face the range of sporting sanctions: from a points deduction to a relegation. Hence, Inter face the range of punishments, but it is not necessary they will materialize.
I have placed the apposite paragraph here for convenience:
Maybe a native Italian speaker, or one whose Italian is better than mine can confirm my conclusions.

No, that title should remain to Inter unless they have also been caught with money fraud that season and you are right it should be left unassigned.
But I wasn't talking about that scudetto, i'm talking about 2006-2007 scudetto.
Inter's situation according to my understanding till now:
Regarding Suazo, Inter may face hefty fines as a result of signning the player and not the club, but the stuation is about to get more complicated, Suazo has declared that he wants to respect the moral agreement he has with Inter, but his agent and Cellino want to convince him of Milan. Still Suazo may face a ban reports say because he signed for a club while still under contract with Cagliari.
Regarding the financial situation and investigation, these reports have been going on since last summer and winter, but now its getting serious, Inter may face yet another set of hefty fines and charges according to the findings of the financial authorities. The most extreme result is demotion to Serie B, but that's an extreme and the most likely result is huge fines or may be stripping of the title.

Further evidence that Inter are the new "Teflon" Dons of Serie A:
http://football.guardian.co.uk/breakingnews/feedstory/0,,-6728636,00.html
This article states that the FIGC, despite evidence to the contrary, found Inter innocent of "spying" on Vieri and other players, as well as ref Di Sanctis....
Why am I not surprised? But I am willing to bet that the civil case will have a different outcome
Now, I wanna understand someting, if there is indeed a clause in Suazo's Calgiari contract that says any team who pay 9.2 mil for him makes him released from Cagliari and thus Suazo could sign to any club?
I mean, you still need in this case Cellino's signature first right?
I hope they will be punished with what they've done.
I hate Inter much, Serie B should be the best place for them next season.
It's not about hating or loving another team, it's about laws. Italian football severely suffered after the calciopoli, but all in all the good and clean competition is the most important thing, even if it means to relegate the top team. You reap what you sow

This whole thing is symptomatic of Italian football at the moment: twisted, self-serving and corrupt. It's driving me to a state of dispair over Italian football, the sport I love. At the moment my feelings are - sod it, what does it matter if Inter are relegated? Will anything really change? Bribing refs, financial irrregularities....cheating, call it for what it is appears to be endemic amongst the upper teir clubs. Another year, another scandal. Should Inter be punished? Well, yes they should if it can be proven that they have falsified their financial accounts. Relegation? No, for all the reasons stated above.
But something has to be done. We can't keep going through the same rigmarole of muck spraying and controversy every year....the league must grow some teeth.
