i saw that goal/ 2nd for Crespo. It looked like it was set up, trough ball, by Messi. Correct me if i am wrong. Argentines also showed some nice trick with a freekick few mins ago, almost worked out fine the ball missed the head by a foot or so. (crespo's again?)

Beautyiful, 3-1 now. A nice cross from the left and a go-ahead running header, all done with nice speed and movement.

Tevez for Messi.

4-1, one-on-one by Tevez, coolly slotted the sphere past the keeper in the corner of the goal.

Wow, replay shows Tevez' perfect first touch and then forward-advancing knee-ball.

I watched it too - Crespo's killer instinct was on show yet again. Very goo dgame by Messi and the entire Argentinian team - a one-sided game for pretty much the entire 90 min.
Good game by Paraguay earlier today too.

The guy is also very acrobatic. He almost connected with one high-flying pass.
I would say only MvB couldve done better. Sigh.....

I'll start doing that for you Jimmy boy. You should have asked us earlier. I'm yet to miss a match :)

I have money on a big fat draw in Mexico-Chile and so far so good.
Nothing special on this match though, but Mexicans (especially Marquez and Castillo) impressed so far in this tournament.
Marquez is a rock while Castillo, eventhough he's selfish, plays for Olympiacos and made the greatest miss of all time against Brazil, was a real threat everytime he had the ball.

Brazil starts later tonight and it should be another boring match because a draw will do for the Brazilians. But at least we'll get to see some less famous Brazilian players in action

Copa america is much better tahn any european championship, every match since now was nice to watch (except Venezuela-Uruguay last night) nice goals, nice actions, driblings...
And it's not hard to predict results (in last couple days I got some money by betting on this matches)
Right now watching Brazil-Ecuador...

Gilberto Silva, Josué and Mineiro gives Brazil a strong midfield, able to attack and deffend in high level

The team is so much better without Diego

The major problem is the attack with Robinho and the deffend with Juan but they are not playing that bad till now

MIRZA
05-07-2007, 08:28
Robinho is playing good since now, just like Wagner Love in attack...

I hope that Paraguay or Venezuela will at least play in semifinals....

I think that Argentina will be this years champions, since now they played great and showed that they are major contenders for the title...

What i always liked about Argentina was the mixture of European and South American football.
They took the best from the 2 continents and they made the two different football cultures work together.
Even now they have the South American flair in Messi and Riquelme, the Italian stability at the back with Ayala and Milito, the mixture of SA technique and European power in Crespo, the european school DMC in Mascherano and the mixture of both schools in Zanetti, Cambiasso, Veron.
It was like this since i know of myself..... Maradona and Ortega presented SA , Simeone, Passarella presented Europe and Batistuta with Redondo had the best of EUR and SA

Forzaaa Argentina :)

I want them to win but like i said in one of my posts above, i have a feeling someone else will win it, eventhough Argies are classes above any other team in CA.

You remember Milan in 2005. Much better than everyone else in Europe but it was Liverpool who won it :)

The Americans' performance has been a joke. What's the point of even bringing a team like this to a prestigious tournament like the Copa America? Its a disgrace. The team Bradley brought to Venezuela should have played the Gold Cup instead, but foolish pride made them take their 1'st squad to the Gold Cup so they could beat Mexico again. I belive that had Donovan, Dempsey, and the rest of the starters been there the US could have gotten out of the group and maybe gone even farther.

BTW Mirza I don't know what tournament you're watching. So far most of the matches I've seen have been tough on the eyes.

The last round ( except Peru-Bolivia) was veru tough and boring. But we've seen some very good football in previous rounds with many goals and we don't see that on EURO championships.

Argentina scored 8 goals and so did Paraguay in their first 2 matches. Mexico-Brasil was a fantastic match with ~10 great chances. 3 or more goals were scored on almost every match in the opening 2 rounds.
Betting on goals was very, VERY profitable ! :)

Uruguay - Venezuela 4-1
Mexico - Paraguay 6-0
Argentina - Peru 4-0

Peru played good in first half, and at the half time they had good result, but second half...I'm sure that if there was at least 10 more minutes in second half Argentina would score 2 more goals...
I'm sorry for Paraguay, that red card in 3rd minute destroyed them...

Brazil -Uruguay.

Interesting 1st half:
What an interesting game! Recoba keeps taking lovely corner shots while Forlan keeps shooting and ...
he gets one finally.

Now I see Brazil scores off the set piece, is this a never ending first half, 50 min?

actually the first half lasted about 1hr because there was a problem with the lights in the stadium a little after Brazil scored for 1-0 and the game had to be stopped for 13-14 min or so.

again with a goalie off his line for a pk.
they either need to change the rule so all gk can move, or enforce the existing rule.

:grinser:
It's Istanbul in English. But if you really want to use the greek name then it's Konstantinopoli :)

Jeff, it doesn't make difference if the keeper dives to the wrong side but it makes a lot of difference if the keeper dives to the right side. You make the angle a lot smaller if you make 3 steps out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4S65EPNGl3Y
Watch the penalties here. If Dida didn't make the 3 steps Montero would have scored the penalty 99.9% because Dida would have dived earlier to his left and Montero shot in the middle.
Also Nesta's penalty. If Buffon didn't stay at the line he could have easily saved the penalty while the ball wasn't so high, out of his reach.
Milan won the penalty shot-outs against Juve in a NOT FAIR way, just like you lost them against Pool in the same way.

That's life i suppose, but FIFA should tell the refs to follow the rules !

EXACTLY...
However...ending a game on pk's in itself is stupid.

what about putting the ball anywhere on the penalty box, and allowing the keeper anywhere in the goalie box? takes a little more skill?

i always have been in favor of pulling players off and letting some version of a game decide it...

1st ot...11 v 11
2nd ot...9 v 9
3 rd ot.. 6 v 6
4th ot...1 v 1 :)

huh, let's not go there shall we? :)

Dida didn't do anything different than what Buffon was doing ... the main dif is that the Milan players, who scored, took their PK in a way that it didn't really make any dif what the GK was doing (see Sergio's PK).
Buffon was also going off his line but that didn't help him much vs a well taken PK, unlike those saves he made form Seedorf and kaladze where your argument about Montero's PK applies just as nicely.

And Dudek didn't do anything against the rules, in fact his GKing was much more according to the rules than that of Dida and Buffon in the 2003 final as unlike them, Dudek was mostly dancing on his goal line, which the rules allow for ... of course he got off the line too on some PKs but that's what all Gks do, so a win on Pks is not unfair, if there is anything unfair here it's the way the rules are being applied and that mostly "damages" the PK takers as it makes it much harder for them to score.

other than that usually both GK are allowed to "break" the rules in the same way.

Errrrr...... WHAT ???????

Watch when does Buffon makes Half a step when Seedorf takes the shot ! He makes the step at the same moment when Seedorf shots the ball.
Now , watch when does Dida makes the step forward when Zalayeta took his penalty ( only one step )
Buffon vs Kaladze is the same as Buffon vs Seedorf. He goes a step forward when the penalty is already taken.
And now watch Dida vs Montero. 4 steps and 3 of them before Montero touched the ball.
Now, if Gigi made 4 steps like Dida did, you think his chances of saving Nesta penalty would have been the same ?

As for Dudek, come on Zlat, you're not serious.

Brilliant goal by Henze, wow/. Off a set-piece, 35 yard long freekick was executed like a long shot but it was far wide and looked like a pass.
Henze connected with the sphere right before the GK got to it.

Nicely executed set-piece, I thought for a second it was a missed shot.

I told you bet on a big horse - 15/7/2007 - Brazil conquers America once again
Brazilian National Squad defeat Argentina 3-0

http://www.copaamerica.com/default.asp?pag=noticias&id=826

Paulo Favero – Special Correspondent

Maracaibo – In the final of Copa América - Venezuela 2007, Brazil clinched one more title, their eighth in the competition. Victory came against bitter rivals Argentina 3-0, in Maracaibo, in a match that closed the tournament in stylish fashion. At the end, a standing ovation for Dunga, Robinho, Juan, Vagner Love and Júlio Baptista's team, amongst others.

Brazil began in top form. With only 4 minutes of play, Vagner Love intercepted a pass by Messi, and linked up with Elano. The player made a pinpoint cross from right to left to midfielder Júlio Baptista, who sent the ball into the top corner to open the scoring.

Argentina tried to level the account, and had quality players to do so. On 8 minutes, Messi began a beautiful play on the left, before supplying a cross to Veron, who headed the ball to Riquelme, whose stike exploded onto the upright. On 16 minutes, Maicon's shot was deflected by an Argentinean defender, almost beating keeper Abbondanzieri, who managed to make the save just in time.

One minute later, the same Maicon delivered a low cross, which was sent out by the Argentineans for a corner-kick. On 34 minutes, Riquelme pounced on a rebound by the Brazilian defense and struck goal-wards, only to see Doni make a spectacular save.

Argentina continued searching for an equalizer, and were dangerous with their set-plays. Brazil were able to mount a solid defense, mainly with their defensive midfielders Josué e Mineiro. Both seemed tireless. When Argentina were stepping up the pressure, Brazil added their second. On 40 minutes, Daniel Alves broke down the right and made a cross. Defender Ayala tried to intercept it and scored an own-goal.

After the break, the match became more physical, since both teams went in search of victory. Argentina began setting the agenda, but Brazil kept breaking on the counter. On 62 minutes, Argentina came close to reducing the gap with Aimar e Messi, but in both occasions, the Brazilian defenders blocked their shots.

Brazil mounted a heavy marking in midfield, especially on talented Messi, Riquelme and Tevez. On a swift counter-attack, Vagner Love left Daniel Alves alone before the Argentinean keeper. The right-back struck in the far corner to extend the Brazilian lead. Then, it was time for a Brazilian celebration to break out in Maracaibo.
