R u serious???? No Paolo Maldini??? :uhm:
If we agree with u for a moment that he is not the #1 anymore, but EVEN THEN there is NO chane in hell that he can't be inlcluded in top 5 at this moment :bri:
Based on last season performances how can u say that Cannavaro is better than Paolo???? LaLiga forwads were toying against him.
Pulyol wasn't impressive at all in WC and CL. Terry missed many matches where as Maldini carried the defence single handedly in the absence of Nesta. Just watch ACM without Paolo in the 2nd half of ACM vs ManU at old trafford, u will find out that how much impact he still have on ACM
Come on, we know that u are a Juve fan but that doesn't mean that u don't give credit to the Captain of ACM :bri: Paolo Maldini is unmatchable :5ok:

Stez, did you forget Cristiano Ronaldo or he's the one leading the support strikers list ?

yeah he's the one leading the wide forwards/support strikers list, i can see where the confusion comes from as Milans Ronaldo certainly did use to be a very wide forward in another sense :dielaugh:
Thankfully he wont be on the Galacticos eat what you want diet at Milan ;)
Where is Paolo Maldini???????? & Thanks God u didn't include Vidic, Silverstre and Brown bcoz they too are YOUNGER than Paoo Maldini
San Paolo only plays around half the games each year these days, it pains me to say it but he simply wouldnt last a full season as a first choice centre back anymore :(
GK: Buffon, Dida, Cech, Casillas, Reina.
D: Maldini, Nesta, Ayala, Kaladze, Riise.
M: Ronaldinho, Kaka, Pirlo, Gattuso, Messi.
F: Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, , Nistelrooy, Eto'o, Gilardino.
Paolo Maldini won the best defeder award in the CL in the presence of Nesta, Terry, Carrager, Vidic & Carvalho at the age of 39 :bri: Which means he is sitill the BEST in the business. He is the measuring stick of the soccer industry :5ok: Its a kind of virtual SLAP for those who think that Maldini is finished and can't play against C.Ronaldo, Rooney, Ronaldinho, Messi & blahblahblah..........................( pathetic thinking level :wallbang: )
Why Puyol, Nesta, Terry, Carrager, Vidic & Carvalho didn't win the award?????? They are young and have no injuries compared to Maldini. There is no answer for this question with Paolo's critics :devf:
It doesn't matter what Juventus or Man Utd fans think abt Paolo Maldini. The reality is that he is still the ICON of ACM and will win the best defender award again in 2007-2008 :bri:

Cech won too, despite spending most of the season in hospital having his brain put back in
Maldini won but only a fool would think the decision was based on pure footballing reasons, it was however an excellent gesture to reward Madini's overall career.

True, but there were also footballing reasons.
This wasn't an award for the best defender in 2006/07 in the world. This was an award given to the best defender in CL 2006/07 and to be honest, Maldini did have a great tournament.
I don't know if i would have given the award to him, but with his performances in CL he certainly was among the best 3 defenders in the competition and even if there were 1 or 2 who played equally good as he did, i don't think someone was better than Maldini.
I have absolutely no objections on this choice of the coaches. Paolo did deserve the award.

Stop the press, I actually agree with Manc. :1five:
Nesta is faster than Maldini. Paulo has lasted as long
as he has because of his excellent head for the game.
AND YES, I love Maldini. The only AC Milan kit I have is
a Maldini kit.

I absolutely agree. In addition, I won't pick Nesta as best defender in CL last year because he played in CL only few matches (Did he start to play in CL against ManU in Old Trafford? I cant remember exactly.)

I think :
Goalie : 1.Buffon 2.Cech 3.Casillas 4.Dida 5.Reina
Defender : 1.Terry 2.Nesta 3.Cannavaro 4.Carragher 5. Maicon (sorry for san paolo)
Midfielder : 1.Kaka 2.Ronaldinho 3.Cristiano Ronaldo 4.Pirlo 5.Fabregas
Forward : 1.Eto'o 2.Henry 3.Ibrahimovic 4.Messi 5.Rooney (sorry for il tsar)
Bah!! You put Maicon oh that list! Are you really Milanisti? :D
Cech won too, despite spending most of the season in hospital having his brain put back in
He is the 2nd best GK of the world after Buffon and its as simpe as that
The cowards like Riena and that giant Van Dar Sar are NOT in his league. So it was a fair decision, bcoz even watching Cech playing in 1 match is better than watching that bald headed Riena and Van Dar Sar for the whole season :)
Maldini won but only a fool would think the decision was based on pure footballing reasons, it was however an excellent gesture to reward Madini's overall career.
Well its official now that a Man Utd fan will always be a Man Utd fan, not an ACM fan :devf:
U r saying that all the experienced members of the pannel and Franco Baresi are FOOLS???????? Think upon it :stupid: I agree that Maldini and ACM screwed Man Utd dreams of a Leage & CL douldle :grinser: but that doesn't mean that u guys should not give us the credit for out classing ur team :bri: Thats simply not fair.
ACM kept cleans sheets against Celtic and the at the most difficult place i.e Bayen's home in the presence of d!da :googly: & guesss what, it was Paolo Maldini who lead the defence not Nesta :5ok: Plus Maldini was Rock solid in group stages as well + almost a cleansheet in the BIG FINAL
Forget all these things, u think Franco Baresi is a FOOL who said in an English magzine show that the 2 best defenders of the CL were Carrager (2) and Maldini (1). He also said that as a LB maybe bcoz of injuries Maldini has passed his prime but as a CB he is still the BEST, #1 ahead of any 1 else :bri:
Don't bring his injuries, age & league appearences in the discussion. Its champions league that we are talking. Lets suppose that he wasn't the best defender???? So who was then????
Terry??? Not a sinle clean sheet in the knockout stage even in the presence of Makelele anbd Cech
Carreger??? well he lost one-on-one against Maldini, so what else???
Vidic????? U got to be kidding me :haha:
Carvaldo and Rio :uhm:
SO PLZ ADMITT IT PUBLICALLY THAT ACM IS SUPERIOR TO MAN UTD IN EVERY DEPARTMENT & PAOLO MALDINI IS SIMPLY THE KING OF KINGS, PLZ!!!
PAOLO MALDINI IS SIMPLY THE KING OF KINGS
I don't think Rico would agree :grinser:

I put Maicon in top5 consciously. And I am really a Milanista :pp20:
I'm totally agree with Carlos Dunga to pick Maicon as starter in right back pos. of Brazillian NT instead of Daniel Alves in Copa America.
Brazil defense became so strong at that tournament and Maicon was 1 of the icon of Brazil success.
And I think his performance with Inter last season was so d*mn good.
I like this player. Tough in defense and terrific while support attacking... :pp20:
His awesome permances forced Mancini to change their captain Javier Zanetti role become midfielder and let Maicon charged in right full back
Just watch Inter match and you'll find out how great this player is.. :zany:

Thats weak, even by your standards :)
Your even arguing with yourself now, as you point out Chelsea got no cleansheets in the knockouts, why does this exclude Terry from an award but not Cech? I'll let you argue with yourself on that one :stupid:
Well its official now that a Man Utd fan will always be a Man Utd fan, not an ACM fan
I've publicly admitted countless times i put Utd first but that is irrelevent on this as i dont rate any Utd defender as highly as Maldini.
U r saying that all the experienced members of the pannel and Franco Baresi are FOOLS???????? Think upon it
No, im saying they took more into account that football alone, i was suggesting YOU were the fool as you couldnt see that, and apparently still cant..... :dielaugh:
Baresi is generally a good judge of players but Maldini is not just anybody, he is a good friend and former teammate. If you asked your hero Lampard who deserved the award i am absolutely certain he would say his good friend John Terry did ;) Would you dare suggest Frank is wrong on this issue?
Don't bring his injuries, age & league appearences in the discussion. Its champions league that we are talking. Lets suppose that he wasn't the best defender???? So who was then????
Actually no it isnt, this thread didnt specify the 5 best players in the champions league at all. If it had done Maldini would have made my list easily but as i took into account the entire season (as im sure most other people have done) i judged Maldini on everything. With just 18 appearances Paolo played in less than half the Serie A games last season and only made 27 appearances in total all year!

My bet maicon will be the successor of J.Zanetti for many years to come and for Cafu in Brazil national team.
Btw I watched friendly match between Brazil and Mexico early this morning(local time in indonesia). What's wrong with Maicon? I couldn't see Maicon in right full back. Why Dunga put Daniel Alves at right flank of Brazil defense.
Any information ?

Maybe he wanted to ratate the formation, I am not sure. He also put Inter's GK (last match was Doni). He also used Wagner instead of PSV striker (I forget his name). Just like Lucio's partner in DC, he looks new to me.
But last game against USA, Maicon didnt play like he did in Inter, IMO. If I am not mistaken, the first subtitution against USA was Maicon to Daniel Alves, CMIIW.
