View Full Version : No Movement in Market - A Shift In Policy?
Maybe Ancelotti is planning on giving the younger players a chance? Matteo, Digao and Aubameyang have all been listed in the first team squad :

Could this be a shift in policy?
Wud be nice if they could get a chance to prove themselves, bar 5 mins in a Coppa match, but we do need additions in mid, and upfront, not to forget the immenent retirements of Cafu, Serginho, Maldini, Fiori, please God Kalac, Favalli at the end of next season which we have failed to address.
Wow I never saw that they promoted Darmian + Aubameyang. LOL at listing Kaka as an attacker though.
Don't we need to add one more player for the UEFA ruling?
Clutching straws with Kaka as a striker.
Digao would pass as the third youth team player I believe. How long has he been registered with Milan ?

Given that none of these players, apart from Maldini, are in the starting XI it's not really an issue.

The transfer windows ends on the 31st of August and that's when the Champions League squads are submitted. If we don't make any signings I would expect more players to be promoted from the youth team to pad out the squad, which isn't a bad thing.
Kaka' plays as a striker in the Champions League.
Kaka only played there because we were thin for options up front. He won't play there much this upcoming season imo except maybe against the tougher teams in CL + Serie A.
3 players needs to be added, and Digao isn't one of those, as he hasn't been registered for more than 3 years I think.
Given that those players are in the squad it is an issue as there could be younger players giving us more security for the squad in the next few seasons.

The rules Uefa rules will be stricted in the future. This does not mean we don't need to add new players to our squad. In PAOK Thessaloniki for example is given a chanse to young players along with the experienced ones. Alone cannot afford the waight while they cannot also improove.

If this ruling ever comes into place English teams are screwed!

I think Digao is only back in the Milan squad because of Kaka.

Maldini, Brocchi, Oddo.
Cool in seeing 17 year old Darmian there. hoping they have a Maldini there? Darmian actually debuted at a younger age than Maldini for us. :)

these players will be part of the so called "B" team - Uefa allows for a club to have two teams - A and B. The senior players are the A team (limit of 25 players overall) while players like Digao, Darmian, Aubameyang will be (and were last year too) part of the B team (players cannot be older than 20 or 21 yo) and can play for Milan in CL if Carlo chooses to field (say in case of lots of injuries to players from list A).

Digao is Kaka's kid brother I guess, but he'd been loaned out these past 3-4 years. I think most of us rarely watch his play, at least I do. Is this lad worth to be put in our Serie A players list?
Digao will be 22 before the end of august.

Wasn't it Maldini debuted at a younger age, but there was only a few months difference or something.
Still I've seen Darmian in a number of games now and must say he does seem an exciting prospect. Along with Di Gennaro, he's the one I have the highest hopes for from Primavera.
Darmian didn't impress me when I saw him, but he was at that time a 16 year old playing with the big men. Especially in defense it is harder to impress at that age as you don't posses the physical charactertics needed.
Last season in primavera, which position did Darmian play most? central defence or left fullback?
I wonder Ba is on the squad list. I thought he is just Esajas which not went to squad list on milan website.

I think he is primarily a CD, but not 100% sure.
as for Ba, this is just a broad list of players, not CL list or anything like that - every Milan player will be on that broad list as long as he has a contract with Milan, Esajas was on it too when he was at Milan.

Aha, I thought he is again-next Maldini (left fullback). Thanks Zlat.
It means, Darmian 'subtitutes' Costacurta on the list.
So, Esajas was also on that list. It's my mistake then. I still can now hope, Ba is just another Esajas.
If I'm not mistaken, Digao played as a first-team player in Rimini (what I read from the line-up from Rimini's serie C and B matches. But I am not sure, if he played as CD or RB. I really hope, Digao can compete with Cafu as RB (considering the age of Cafu and the height of Digao).

Physically he is pretty small, so it would be difficult for him to really impress from that point of view. What impresses me is his positioning and timing when tackling.

Darmian can play CB and RB (most likely position in the senior squad)

Ba is at the club to keep an eye on his son who plays for one of the youth teams.

This indeed is a sign of the new policy. The new policy is not to give younsters more chances but rather take the cheapest options available to fill out the roster. Signing the cheap options on the transfer market and then get young players to come up and hope for them to turn into superstars is the new strategy for this team now. I honestly dont believe that those young players should be here right now. They are a long way off from being able to contribute for one of the elite teams in Europe.
As are most of the older players - Kalac, Brocchi, Favalli. Shouldn't be in our squad, never mind signing dirt like emerson.

Well you can say it's a "new" policy---but IMO, it is something which we have learned over the years and learnt the hard way. Back in the early to mid 90's we were no different to Chelsea and Real of today---we bought everything in sight, young prospects, old superstars, and many players from teams we faced as opponents in Europe. But then what? We realized most of these players landed on the bench, never fit in the team, and landed up being sold for a fraction of their price---and worse of all, the team wasnt necessarily successful with them on board.. Hence the lesson---even if you have the money (Berlu certainly does) there is no use in buying players, even superstars, if they cannot improve the team---because after all, you can only field 11 players on the pitch---and results come on the pitch not on how good you look on paper.

Good post :)
It seems to me, yea, there seems to be a new policy regarding the mercato. Everyone else is buying someone else, while Milan? Two, TWO signings this summer. While we also have TWO strikers going out. I will be honest, I'm surprised. It also frustrated the heck out of me. It feels like we are missing some pretty good players in the market.
Or maybe we just wait for January transfer window, where the management can finally see who we need to strengthen the squad, instead of rushing in the Summer. Last January, it was Oddo and Ronaldo (let's quietly forget about Grimi, k? I'm still baffle.) who really help us achieve our target. The bad thing about January? All the good players might not be available anymore, and we might end up paying more than the normal price.

Stupid tactic to wait for january transfers. Oddo and ronaldo helped us achieve our targets... which was 4th place! Even berlu said its hard to get a striker in january, we'll buy in summer. Yeah we will, in 2008.
And like u mentioned, 'great' players are already CL tied in january.
