David Beckham came onto the field in the 78th minute in his Debut for the L.A Galaxy vs. Chelsea. His first touch was a long ball up the field and then later on he was tackled harshly. He was slow to get up but continued. Any comments on this and the affect he might have on soccer in North America.

Apparently there was a big party to welcome him to L.A. with people there like the film director Ron Howard :googly:

Beckham has always been a media circus but now he's in a country where it will just be multiplied ten fold and lapped up. He'll bring more awareness to the sport in America, but i doubt it'll be for the football he plays. It'll be for the media attention he gets.

His latest stunt is to visit the 'ghettos' and 'slums' of L.A. with some rapper and see the kids. How many other players do this? It's all about promoting 'brand beckham' right now and not alot to do with his football.

Other Galaxy players are already commenting on the circus side of things, saying it makes concentrating on playing football difficult. Add to that the difference in wages he's getting ( something like $650,000 a week compared to the lowest guy's wage which is $12,000 a week ) and i'm sure signs of jealousy might rear its head.

Xavier if you remember him is playing for La Galaxy x-Portugal National player , hair color same with Ibrahim Ba's (yellow) :grinser: . 2-3 days ago i saw on TV him making a welcome interview for Beckham. Maybe next year Galliani will go for him would fit perfectly with Ba
