Obviously we all are still awaiting the arrival of the promised superstar, but I was just thinking of the numbers that are available for said player(s) to wear.
They are No 5. Who will have the honour of wearing Billy's old no??
No. 7. Used by many legends, traitors, and flops. It is hoped the next one will be a legend.
No. 12.
No. 14.
No. 15.
No. 24.
So in total for the lower numbers we have 6 spots available. Obviously Digao, Darmian, Ba & Aubameyang may take some numbers or may keep the same one from the previous season in the case of Darmian & Aubameyang, although it could show a great deal of fate to give No 5 to Darmian.
I think 7 could go to Pato or Ronaldo.
Ba probably 14, or possibly Zambro.
Others are anyone's guess.

if we get zambrotta i can see favalli dropping the 19 in his place, then him taking up another number. I spose i would prefer Darmian to take number 5, but i wouldnt mind Bonera to take it to be honest.
Unless we are going to sign a good striker i would keep 7 free for another season. Then assign it to someone who is deserving of it.

I think we need to get the number 7 filled in. If Pato took it, we could market it well for quite a few years.

yeah as Graeme said save 7 for the superstar. Ronaldo will keep 99 i guess. Pato would be good in 24

I agree, 7s belong to midfielders in my book ... I am tired of players' numbers running up and down the table like crazy, miss the good old days when the low numbers were for defenders, while the big one for attackers :D
Agreed, zlat. i think they should have the old number system, then whoever starts gets the number for that position.

Pato refuted that comment and said he'll let his agent know who he wants to play for in the next week.
Something tells me his agent (probably to get more money) or Marca have gotten his desire "to play for Real" from where the sun don't shine.
5 will prob be retired just like maldini's #3 after her retires. The will just hold it incase there sons make it into the team. #7 to go to gourcuff hes going to be big

Apparently Pato wanted 11, but that is taken by Gila, so Milan are looking for a solution (Gazzetta).

Not sure, but Emerson said in direct quotes "I'm taking #5" , he's not worth it imo, and only greats like costacurta are, but hey, :)
Look, I dont think it is a big deal if the number "5" is given to a new signing. As much as I respect Billy, I would not put his squad number in the same level as that of Baresi or Maldini. And dont forget, the year Terim coached us, Billy was all set to begin a new career in the US and his number was given to a new signing, Redondo. Redondo continued to wear that number even after Billy rejoined the team. I think Billy wore number 19 during the 2 years Redondo played. Afer Redondo retired, Billy took back the 5.
So in light of everything, I wouldnt think too much if Emerson took the number and other great players after him continue to do it justice...
i think emerson will get no.5 and pato no.7
shame no one will take no.14. Gourcuff should have taken that number!

If Emerson choose Billy's number 5, then, he needs to ask Billy's hand to hand over the number, with confetti and promises to sacrifice himself to Mount Helene if he did not do the shirt justice.

Ehem, please continue on the discussion. Glad to see number 9 did not change, and I rather have Gourcuff have number 7 (like he wears when he captain the France U-21) instead of giving it to Pato. The again, 7 is all about Sheva, maybe Milan wants to keep 7 for striker instead of midfielder.
Emerson has number 5, it's now official... it's on the Milan website.
Gourcuff already played with 20... he can't change it now...
Pato may take 7... or he could surprise us and take some other number.
