View Full Version : What other clubs do you like or follow, even a little?

I know many football/futbol/calcio supporters will say
you can ONLY follow or like 1 club, BUT are there any others
you like even a little in lower divisions or outside of Italia???

ALSO WHY DO YOU LIKE THESE CLUBS + HOW DID YOU GRAVITATE TOWARD THEM????

Thanks, in advance. :5ok:

I'm a total football junky and watch tons of leagues, I find that if I don't like a club at least a little in a league, I have ZERO emotional stake in the outcomes of the league and it is harder for me to follow or even care at all about a league.

These are the leagues I watch/follow:

Serie A
La Liga
Ligue 1
English Premiership
Scottish Premiership
Dutch Eredivise
Bundesliga
Mexican
Argentine
Brasilian

I don't really have enough time to follow all those leagues, though I obviously support Milan and Sunderland. I follow Falkirk in the SPL a little bit because its where all my relatives live and I've seen them play a couple of times.
I liked Villa Real for a bit when they had Forlan, and Schalke in Germany for some reason. I was watching a bit of MLS and thought of following Toronto FC because there's a couple of ex-SAFC players in the team, but it's pretty poor quality.

I had said in the past so many times that i belong to Ultras of PAOK Thessaloniki, PAOK is one big part of my life, religion route, as my old relatives coming from Konstadinoupolis after 1453.

My first and most favourite foreign team from 1992 (i started understanding football well, i am 26) is AC Milan. at times liked Inter of Ronaldo taking Uefa cup and Juve of Bokisic, Vieri playing well. Also Parma of Can, Buf, Chiesa, Thuram and many others. Viola of Bati, R. Costa and 2 other striker of CL, i think Mijatovic.

England: i became fan of Manchester United by the way they were playing. At times i like the way were playing Leeds, Newcastle even Chelsea with Zola and Hasselbaink.

Spain: Real Madrid from the time with Seedorf, Redondo, Raul, Suker, Morientes, R. Carlos. At times Valencia of Piocho Lopez, Mendieta, Angloma, Canizares, Barca with Figo, Rivaldo, Kluifert, Luis Enrique, Atletico Madrid when PAOK played against them with Zouninio, Vieri, Lardin at 97/98, Kiko, Molina, Pantic, Caminero, Villa of CL

France: not a spesific, Monaco of two times, Henry, Trezeguet, Ikpeba, Bernabia and Rotthen, Morientes, Ziuli, Evra, the RB. The last years Lyon, Nant of CL... Auxerre of Chisse, Akale, PSG of Weah, Marseille of 1993 who beat us.

Holland: not a specific but you could not admire Ajax of Kluivert, Davids, Overmars, Kanu, Litmanen, PSV of last years.

I referred to nice seasons of teams but my teams are specific....

PAOK[U]

Milan > Manchester United, Real Madrid

Spain - Whoever has the chance to take the trophy away from Real and Barcelona
England - Arsenal
Greece- Panathinaicos

First club which I started to 'support' was Crvena Zvezda, that was when they were european champions, but I was only 4y.o. then so I didn't know vey much about footbal, I only liked them because I saw them once on TV beating some other team :)
I started to support Milan at the end of 1995, when the war in Bosnia ended and when we where able to watch TV normaly knowing that you don't have to turn off sound on TV to hear bombs and run into the shelter and when we had electric power every day... Anyway I got my first football jersey then, it was GEORGE WEAH nr 9 (I still have it in my room) and since then Milan is always in my heart and it would be there forever...
Here are some other clubs that I like:

Bosnia: Velež (Mostar u srcu, Velež do groba)
Germany: Hoffenhaim

England:West Ham
Turkey: Fenerbahce

For me I support Al Ahly club in Egypt, though in the last few years I started not to follow them as they always win in both Egypt and Africa , down handed in fact, so it turned to be so boring.
In Europe there is lots of teams that I really like
In Italy I support Milan of course ,however, and believe it or not I also support Juve but as a second favourite then Roma and Viola, so I can say I am an Italian football fan more than just a Milan fan, I even support Inter in the CL when they face none Italian team.
In spain I support Real Madrid because I hate Barca not because I love them, in Egland ManUtd is also a team that I admire, and in both Germany and france I dont support any team, I like also Sao Paolo in Brazile and I have no particular reason for that.
As for the National teams I love Italy and Brazile, though I love Nigeria also.

I live in city called Osijek so I support NK Osijek, croatian first division club, that has never won a title!!! damn it! Some good players came from here like Davor Suker, Vlaovic...

And aldough I live like 500m from the stadium now I rarely go to see the matches as the quality is so low I cant stand it. When I was a bit younger I was at the stadium every game, now the passion somehow faded for croatian league...

Forgive me, I never answered my own question. :stupid:

Serie A...AC Milan, of course! The more I learn about Milan the more I love them and this site is filled with fascinating supporters from all over the world. I think this is one of THE best club forums on the Net. The Rossoneri are an amazing blend of grit, finesse, great chemistry, tradition, and interesting characters.

La Liga...don't know, I love the whole league. I know for sure that I really don't like Real Betis. Last year's Sevilla Derby the Real Betis supporters were constantly doing monkey grunts at Kanoute! I have no patience or tolerance for racists.

Ligue 1..."was" PSG, but all the racists issues are drivin me away. plus made a good friend in the last few months who has lived in Lyon for 15 yrs...so maybe Olympique Lyonnais. I love their style of beautiful footie...like Arsenal!

English Premiership....ARSENAL!! the 1st footie club i knew of and liked!!! They play probably the most beautiful footie side i have seen, flowing great movement, sweet passing, attacking.

Scottish Premiership...the Old Firm I guess, my wife says go for Hearts because we honeymooned in Edinburgh and absolutely loved it. plus she loves their name, kits, and crest.

Dutch Eredivise...AJAX. im a historian; love the name and crest. my wife bought this kit for me.

Portugal: FC Porto. don't know why..not a Mourinho fan, not really crazy about the color blue, guess seeing Man Utd lose to them a few yrs ago in the Champions League after Sir Alex said that FC Porto and Superliga were a joke.

Bundesliga...i guess, FC Bayern, i love their pre WWII history, fascinating story.

Mexican....Chivas Guadalajara, i taught at a Mexican-American school and almost every student was from Guadalajara...they all loved Chivas. Mexico became my adopted country. Almost all of my wonderful coworkers were Mexican too. They all treated me like a Mexican and I'm not a Mexican!

Argentine...don't know, probably River or Boca...i have seen them both
play a ton of times, but not many others in the league.

Brasilian....Gremio, only because my brother accidently bought the kit for me.
i know there are other clubs i support there.

MLS/USA....Chicago Fire..its my hometown side. I have seen about 1 match a year. i guess having a family makes it hard to see lots of footie matches.

For any of the leagues I have mentioned or not mentioned, im open to suggestions to 'adopt' new clubs. when i adopt a club i look for their results and table positioning, PLUS I BUY THEIR KITS AND SCARVES!!!!

I like all the Italian up and coming teams I always support them. I used to like Roma alot but now I dont cheer for them cuz they have become better than us lol. Napoli/Fiorentina/Palermo are teams with tons of potential to make it but I hope they get some money from the recent TV deals to get good squads. Genoa and Lazio I would consider a step behind those 3. Sampdoria could make it but they need to change their style of play it is so ugly.

To be a true fan of the club you support, you should never even support any other club, i think thats what a loyal fan should look like. I used to be a juve fan, maybe 13 years ago, but I live in milan, and i see many Inter-Milan players just on the street, very polite. I also had a bad feeling that Juve were cheaters, even before calciopoli happened, so immediately switched to inter, and its felt as if i have been an inter fan for 16 years that i liked soccer. If i did follow any other teams, it would probably be spartak moscow, i love going to see the inter-spartak matches they are intense. But i am an Inter fan and nothing more.

Tommybhoy

Most boys growing up will support many teams, you can't honestly expect 10-12 year old boys to show the level of loyalty you speak of. You yourself have stated that you have changed teams but you will still claim to be a true fan. I grew up in the 70's and got to like many teams for many reasons but inevitably i stayed as a supporter (albeit from a distance) for the footballing reasons. My first introduction to Milan was when Joe Jordan signed for them and ever since i've shown an interest in how they are performing. I bought the team shirts, watched the games and followed the progress of some great teams but my heart is with Celtic. That does not make me a lesser supporter but a follower of the game and an appreciator of the finer skills some players possessed. In another forum someone described the true fan as one who hated thier rivals and rival support and i disagreed with that as i have many friends who support Rangers. If Celtic beat Rangers i am elated but if Rangers beat Celtic then i am sad that my team did not play as the better team that day. Football is a sport not a war and should be kept in perspective when we interact. For me a true fan is an appreciator of the game of football and a loyal fan is one who financially will support his/her chosen team. Then again someone else can come and have a different interpretation which can/will be as correct as yours or mine.

hany.Egypt
12-11-2007, 07:39
Totaly agree with you, there is no contradiction between being a ''true fan if there is real something called like that'' and supporting to teams, I am a Milan fan actually I am crazy with Milan but at the same time I like and support Juve unless they are playing against Milan of course, does this make me un ''true fan'' sure not, its a game and not a war like what you said.

inter-1908
12-11-2007, 16:18
My support of Inter, will be different, because i am apart of the Vikings Inter 1979 ultra group, so we must be loyal to our team and no one else, but you know i do also watch all the other serie A games, and pick favourites to win those games, like for example juve, when they arent making any threat on Inter, ill support them, same with milan, but roma is a different story.

I like watching Valencia (a team of nutjobs they say :D), Empoli (mio relegation boys) and Arsenal (Cesc and the youngins). I'm of course madly in love with Milan, thus my support for these other teams isn't as deep-rooted.

Nice to see that here are some Ajax-followers. I was a young kid (7) when we used to kick whole Europe's ass, but the last ten years it's miserable. I used to go to the ArenA watching the brave fighters (Dapp're Strijders ;)) some times per season, but since last season I have my own seat. I'm very happy, but I've spent energy on angriness more than happiness. Unless I've never 'really' seen the great Ajax, it's the only standard for me. I want Ajax goddamn to be the greatest side. In Holland no single club one has got more money than we, but 4 years in a row we can just earn a few points less than PSV.

That's horrible. And the level of play also. In the Netherlands, it's 1. good football, 2. good results. And one can never be satisfied when only one of these things is accomplished. But with Ajax, man I praise whichever lord to bring only one of these back to us. Marco is our hope, he has to do it. Come on! I can't wait to see my Ajax live again, with 30 million euro's spent on new players (and this time, not yet one important man is sold).

The only thing I can't understand is that Albert Luque is bonjoured away from the first team. Under the previous coach Adrie Koster he was in his eyes already a nobody, but I had the hope that Van Basten would see the true class of Luque. I'm afraid the classy Spaniard will be never again on the pitch with us. I saw him last year a several times on the trainingsessions, and he has an outstanding technique. Unfortunately that hasn't came out a lot in the matches, but he hasn't got many chances also. Van Basten dissmissed him, and that's his good right, but we'll never know exactly why. And that will allways remain a big shame.

My second favourite club is Barcelona. I've always liked the way they play and I truly admire the whole "més que un club" ethos, their part in the anti-Fascist/Franquist struggle and so on. Also I think it's a whole lot better (and more sympathetic) to be "sponsored" by Unicef than to carry the name of a gambling company!

That being said, I dislike the club's and especially the fans' lack of respect for certain players (Rivaldo and Ronaldinho to name a very few) and I certainly prefer our family-like atmosphere.

Also I like St. Pauli and Livorno, mainly for their supporters, and the former for having the courage to play in brown outfits!

I like clubs with a soul. So Liverpool FC, Celtic Glasgow and Brøndby IF.

I like that! Good reason to support a team, and you also picked good teams that fit that description. Nothing like seeing a club with soul!

`
Mexican....Chivas Guadalajara, i taught at a Mexican-American school and almost every student was from Guadalajara...they all loved Chivas. Mexico became my adopted country. Almost all of my wonderful coworkers were Mexican too. They all treated me like a Mexican and I'm not a Mexican!

Cheers for Mexico!!! Aha ok, Chivas suck!!! Cocky fans, but America fans are cocky too, I just stay away from either!

So, I supported Mexican and Italian NT when I was younger (loved Baggio in 94) and didn't watch club football until soon before WC 2002, I got sooo excited with the world cup that I truly began watching other leagues beyond the Mexican League

Liga Mexicana - MONARCAS DE MORELIA - When I was younger I switched teams a lot but I've always disliked Chivas and their fans. America, Atlas, Cruz Azul, Toluca... But no more of that. I'm a strict Morelia fan and that's my #2 team after MEXICAN NT. Michoacan, Morelia - Place where my dad and sisters grew up.

EPL - Arsenal - I became an ardent Arsenal Fan in 2002 because I disliked Man U and their fans and a lot of people in my American school wore Man U jerseys like they knew the sport when they really didn't. Ever since, I've been an Arsenal fan for EVERYTHING Arsene "My Hero" Wegner has done, but this year he took the cake when he finally brought Mexican Carlos Vela into the squad. They are currently my team to follow, I've always liked them but this season I am fully behind them. GO ARSENAL!!!

Italia - AC Milan After 2002 I HAD to chose a Italian team to support since I've always had a soft spot for Italian NT. I was a big fan of Zambrotta and Juve, but meanwhile, Maldini and AC Milan seemed like an instantly lovable club, you could really see the club as A WHOLE are a respectful bunch. I ALMOST became a Juve fan when they were about to sign Rafael Marquez, but when that fell through and Kaka signed (I recognized Kaka from Confederations Cup here in North America), I instantly fell in love with Maldini and the group. Maldini still is my hero and legend, good ol' lad has given me so many memories and so much inspiration.

Spain - Atletico de Madrid, Atletic Bilbao - Rafael Marquez instead was signed by Barcelona, and I HAD to support them since I disliked Real Madrid's endless fans and seeming dominance over La Liga, AND Rafa Marquez IS my favorite player, couldn't just support some other random team. PLus I was a fan of Cocu, Puyol, Xavi, and STILL AM a fan. But the more I got into the club, the more their politics surfaced and that's just a messy deal . Instead I like Athletic Bilbao for their Basque culture, and Atletico for being Mexican coached (Not to mention Kun Aguero, Maxi Rodriguez and Forlan)

Other clubs - I've watched VfB Stuttgart since they picked up the Mexicans, the very season they won the Championship. Never could watch ANY MLS game. Ok, maybe ONCE I was able to watch a match, but otherwise I just can't get into it. I really don't get it.
