View Full Version : Which will win Premier League?
As the Premier League start today, point your opinion which will win the title.
I still don't know, at the start of summer although i am Manchester United, i expected Chelsea to take it. Chelsea have a lot of injuries, Liverpool wants to be in the top after a lot of years but i don't think is ready enough to do it. Arsenal has more options after Henry's departure but without him they will loose even more points against "small teams" playing defensively. I don't have an opinion about Tottenham, while i am sure that Newcastle will have a great season, they kept their players, Luque is after a long time in shape, they made good transfers and they got a very good coach Alardais. Finally City made good transfers with Ericsson back in coaching but they will need time tight themselves, as far as United will probably be even better from last year and maybe is again the 1 now at the starting...
Why have you got Chelsea twice on the list and no Liverpool?
Its going to be between Chelsea and Manchester United, both squads are very strong the latter being slightly better off. They've added Nani, Anderson, Hargreaves and Tevez already to a squad which consists of Rooney and Ronaldo. Chelsea on the other hand are probably just the same as last season with the arrival of Malouda who will probably replace Robben, if Chelsea can remain without injury for the whole season I can see them competing with Manchester United all the way.
Liverpool I dont think have the depth to remain consistent, one week they can play great football and another week they might struggle. Also the arrival of Torres cant win them the title as he might take time to adjust to the league, who knows? They might challenge for the title next year or maybe the year after. Arsenal consist of too many youngsters and for them to have a great season I think Persie must step up a level or two and remain injury free, a lot of focus will be on Eduardo. There has been a lot of talk in the pre-season about Arsenal fighting with Tottenham for the 4th place, to me it can easily be a fight for the 3rd and 4th place between Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham. Then again watching Tottenhams first half against Sunderland they have a lot of improving to do.

I have to vote for Utd though its harder to defend a title as everyone wants to beat he champions. Hargreaves is the missing link from last season and gives Utd a proper defensive midfielder for the first time in a few years, as long as the first choice defence is fit Utd should have enough attacking options to keep the title.

I think this season is going to be a lot more interesting...
more clubs will be near the top. I may love Arsenal, but
they will be in 3rd or 4th. It pains me to say it, but
MUFC or Chelsea will vye for the title. LFC and NUFC will be
round out the top 5. :respect:

Liverpool added to the list in place of Chelsea's B-team :D
I think the race for title will be betwen Manchester / Liverpool / Chelsea but if i have to chose one then Man.U , btw Im very curious to know which team is that "Other" Tony voted :D ?

tony will choose newcastle because they look like juve :grinser: :dielaugh:
I hope liverpool though...it's been so long that they last won.
Chelsea
Bcoz they have Lampard & Essien in their midfield :5ok:
Man Utd???? They can't win against Reading at home :grinser: how could they win a league???? :)
Last season was a fluke :bri:

Fat Frank isnt getting his contract extended as he has his eyes set on a move to Barcelona, Essien suffered a pretty nasty injury yesterday - there goes your mighty midfield.

Half of the members believe that Emerson should come 2 ACM :wallbang: , I have to say, if ACM really wants to get a new midfielder then why noy Frank Lampard???? :bri: After all he knows how to win a league ;)
So b4 Barca gets that gem, ACM should get him

Chelsea got the ex-Prince of San Siro ($hevchenko) ,
Now if we get the King of Stamford Bridge
then we will get even with Chelsea :pp20:
simply
They took our best player, We will take their best player :5ok: & its as simple as that
I highly doubt he will end up in Milan.
Half time Man United are 1-0 down against Manchester City, its a shame because they have created so many chances.
Giovanni with a cracker but it looks like it took a deflection, wonder whose going to get the hairdryer treatment.

bad start continues, 3 games in and should have won them all, City were totally outclassed all game long but scored a deflected 25 yarder with their only decent attack of the whole game
Fergie will be extremely angry but really he cant tear into the players as they havent really done anything wrong, if they'd had luck today Nani and Tevez couldve had a hattrick each  Hopefully Liverpool will beat Chelsea today and at least keep the gap the same..

I dont agree Stez because what is the first lesson of a defender? Im sure its never turn your back on an opposing player when there shooting, if Vidic didnt swivel that shot would not have deflected off him. Now if we look at the defenders on the other side Dunne & Richards (Who Imo was mom) they wouldnt of turned their backs.
I have to say the way things are going Chelsea are the favorites now, they are just too strong and consistent. If they win today I think they'll have 7 points lead over Man United and its only the second week, United have a lot of catching up to do, No Ronaldo for the next two games and no Rooney for the next two months must hurt. Tevez had way too many chances and im sure if he was replaced by Rooney then half the goals would of easily gone in.
Stezagud

Yeah Rooney wouldve scored today im sure of it, Tevez is snatching at chances a little as he is so desperate to score but he will come good, with Rooney, Saha and Ronaldo to come back in the attack will be fine but short term its going to be a struggle. If Chelsea do lose to Liverpool (and they currently are) then its not too bad a situation as long as no further damage is done .
Its true Vidic couldve closed the shot better but thats just about the only error and yet Utd have lost 7 points! in fact barring a 10 minute spell at Pompey the Utd defence hasnt had anything to do in those 3 games either, today they spent most of the game collecting City's hoofed clearances
Richards was absolutely immense though today, Tevez couldnt escape him no matter what he tried.

You need a confident striker who can take Rooneys place immediately as you cant afford to lose any more points - Tevez might be the man but he has alot to learn. The result im looking for at Anfield is a draw because I want the top 4 to be as close as possible.
It could be worse, you could have Mad Jens in goal  The muppet has let in 2 goals and both have been fumbles, I hope Wenger has noticed that Jens is way past it and a complete waste of space, for god sake Id rather have Almunia in goal.
Somebody please call the cops...Chelseaopoli is the next scandal.
Ok i'm confused, didn't Essien get 2 yellow cards ?
How come the ref let him play ? And what kind of penalty was that ?
No hard feelings my english friends, but your refs suck !

Please don't tell me it was a dubious penalty Tony. I don't think i could handle that.
Yes, our refs do suck. Some are more concerned with establishing a reputation and playing to the letter of the law rather than using some common sense in situations.

The bottom line is that th KING of EPL earned a point for the #1 favorites in a place where 1 point=3 points
So u can say that Chelsea did beat Liverpool :p283:
I enjoyed it :510:

I may be under the influence of the commentator who is a Pool fan but even when i saw it with my own eyes i wasn't convinced it was a penalty. I really think it was a controversial decision by the ref :dontkn:
As for English refs..... This was the second time in 1 year, as far as i know, in a highly important match, an English ref to make a mistake with the cards.
At the WC Simunic got 3 yellow cards and today Essien got 2 yellow cards and he didn't get a red card.
today Essien got 2 yellow cards and he didn't get a red card.
Essien didn't get 2 yellows, the 2nd yellow was actually for Terry :) They confirmed it live from the pitch from the ref during the match on ESPN
Sorry zeekay, i really like to trust you but i can't trust you about anything related to EPL after yours last year fiasco with the prediction that Chelsea will 100% win the league.
I was so disappointed with you.
You are still numero uno for Champions League, thou
But he's right about the Essien yellow card thing Tony. The ref confirmed on BBC that he only booked Terry, not Essien.

Yeah, i know, i just checked.
But it was reported everywhere that he gave Essien the second yellow and i also saw how he gives a yellow to him.
That Israeli defender made a foul on Torres. All Chelsea players objected and he gave the yellow to Terry. But after 30 secs only Essien stood next to the ref and the ref still held the yellow in his hands and has shown it again towards Essien.
I guess he was only "saying" to Terry : "I gave you a yellow, here it is again, so stop talking" but since only Essien was there it looked like he gave it to Essien.
Chelsea had 0 shots on goal, nice game by the so called premiership champions of 2008.

EPL was FIXED last year, thats why Chelsea lost ;) Other wise how could u possibly imagine that Chelsea won't come up with all 3 points against a pathetic team like Newcastle???? :)

Ofcourse I am :bri:
U see the Italian season hasn't kicked off yet and I have already predicted that Paolo Maldini will end his (unmatchable 5-star) career with a Scudetto and CL double, beating an English team in the final yet again (possibly Chelsea) :5ok:
I think Tottenham Hotspur can pull of a surprise this season. They are allready working a couple of years now on the road to become a team which can compete with the top of the Premier League. The capture of Bent could have given them the extra they needed to become the top.
ManU obviously have problems. The don't have a real goalgetter and allready last year it was said that they didn't have the best of defences, but with all the money Ferguson spent on the transfermarket he didn't do anything about it. They still can't miss their stars, certainly not in defence and that is what is going to cost them the Premier League.
Chelsea is just missing something. Their system just doesn't work so well anymore. They play very static, but they play in a formation with wich they should play in a mobile way. I do think that they are better then ManU this year though, certainly if they will get Alves.
For me Liverpool is the strongest of the top four (ManU, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal). Their organisation and defence is, as always under Benitez, very good and Torres gives them much more mobility upfront and that will almost automatically lead to more goals (not necessarily scored by Torres). Plus they have Gerrard, who wins more games for Liverpool then Kaka' does for Milan and that says a lot.
Arsenal is full of talent, but they will miss experience (of Henry) to win the Premier League. they just still need a couple of years and if they then still have all the players they have now, then they will surely be very strong.
A very good start by the Citizens, 100% result with clean sheets
The things go very bad but don't put away MU so early, by sure they will make their counterattack and when they make this almost nothing can stop them....
Glory!! Glory!! Manchester United!!
For me Liverpool is the strongest of the top four

Liverpool wins enough matches??? :bri: Last season they were 21 points behind the leaders :5ok: They r nothing but a team who tries to secure the 4th spot in EPL so that they can play CL :devf:

This year Liverpool will earn enough points, my vote goes to Tottenham anyway, but this will shock you probably even more.

What makes u think that Spurs will win the league?? :bri:
They lost to Sunderland :grinser:
But I think they will win against Chelsea, ManU, Liverpool and Arsenal away from home :5ok:
To say Tottenham will win the league you must be on drugs, they won a team that just came from the fizzy pop league 4-0 (the fans are saying top 4 is guaranteed now) to me its pretty comical because if we had any team from the top 4 playing at WHL the score would not of been the same.
I personally think Jol will be the first to go, then probably most likely Sammy Lee.
Top teams have not had much luck, Man United with R&R out, Arsenal with a muppet between the posts, Liverpool who deserved to win yesterday and Chelsea with early injuries. I still think this season will be pretty close tho (between the top 2, 3 or 4) I just dont know. One more thing if Chelsea fail in Europe another season I cant see Roman keeping Jomo, no matter how successful he is domestically.
I didn't vote for Tottenham because they just won a game 4-0 and I am not on drugs.
But Tottenham is a team in a growing progress. They want to become a member of the top in the Premier League and sometimes there is a season when that's more possible for a subfavorite then in another season and I think that this will be this season.
After the weekend we will know a lot more, because it is Manchester United - Tottenham Hotspurs and it will be a must-win-game for ManU.

Man U will be strong beacuse of their signings, particularly Tevez and Hargreaves but will be the dark horse this year.
Man City are looking good.
Man City are looking good.
How abt Wigan???? :bri:
United, Liverpoll and Chelsky are the only teams that can win it this year.
I have a feeling Liverpool are not ready yet to win Premiership, so I thing its again all about Chelsea and United. I give my "vote" to Mourinho's team...
Hmmmm I think the PL are going to get rid of all the referees one by one.
The scenes before the Nani goal were ridiculous.
1. Vidic wipes Berbatov out deliberately, which is a touch and go whether its a free kick or penalty. But it's a clear red card.
2. Berbatov shoots no goalie in the net hits Brown on the arm, stops the ball going in, he doesn't try and move his arm out the way. Penalty + Red card.
And then after the goal Bale layed the ball off to someone and it hit Ferdinand on the arms in the box, could have been a penalty..
3 potential penalties, 2 stone wall. 2 red cards.
I think they need to dump the referee and the linesman in the Spurs attacking half, out of the league. Or suspend them. Because Howard Webb has refereed this game close to the worst I have ever seen a referee officiate a game.
We'll see the FA's biased on matters after this game, the referee in the Liverpool v Chelsea game got a one match drop, I hope this referee gets punished.

Medellin, Specsavers could save you making such foolish statements and i suggest you pop by for a test ;)
1. Vidic totally had eyes on the ball and Berbatov ran into him from behind, if he can do that deliberately then Vidic has the best awareness of any defender in the history of the game :dielaugh:
2. The ball hit Brown just above the left side of his ribcage as the slow motion proved afterwards. Just because Martin Jol 50 yards away screamed for a penalty it doesnt mean he should get one!
3. Rio handball? thats really scraping the barrel....
The ref has been vindicated on every call by video footage so instead of a ban he deserves a payrise :D

Good to see that one can always rely on Steza's impartial review of ManU games :)
As usual, he has found an explanation/excuse for virtually every question mark that might have been raised upon the merits and abilities of, without a doubt, the best team in the world ;)
After todays game one would have thought that Steza would have had his hands full but hey, here he comes again, stronger than ever and, as always, ManU is a virgin ... who somehow got pregnant, though :D

The only decision that shocked me was that Chimbonda got Nani with a studs up tackle at waist height and Utd didnt even get a foul for it  Needless to say, the conspiracy theorists will not be mentioning that in their reports :)

exactly my thoughts and words, Steza ... I guess you misread my previous post :bri:
The ref today was perfection in human form ... apart from a very questionable decision around the 35th min when he gave Tottenham a throw in when it should have been ManU's ball
that's the only chink in his Armour that I can think of now 'cause with everything else, he was spot ... and how could it have been otherwise - he was refereeing a game in the Theater of Dreams where even TV replays can feel the devine intervention of Fergie and his army :pp20:

what do you reckon, Stez - by how much will ManU's offer for Berbatov go north of 25 mil after he was totally invisible in today's game.
Poor berbo, couldn't touch a ball or take a shot at Manu's goal, so I am guessing SAF will be upping the ante by another 5-10 mil as early as tomorrow morning in an attempt to wipe the tears off Berbo's face.
I heard that the English F.A. have introduced a new rules that says all opposition sides will be denied penalties at old trafford ... while the home side should be allowed up to 10 penalties/dubious decisions per match.
Though i think they've had that rule in place for decades now :grinser:

But let me give you a piece of advice. Don't try to explain these stuff to Milan fans. They are well trained conspiracy theorists. You can't beat them. They have an eagle eye for spotting suspicious situations

I have no idea what you are talking about ... Juve is as righteous a team as ManU is ... well, maybe just a notch or two below them but still pretty damn close ...
so, how could there have ever been a questionable call in their favour, let alone an entire PK that would end up changing the flow of the game?
What game were those Milan fans watching ... I am really speachless at the level of invention and fabrication you spoke of so eloquently ... how dare they put words like Juve, and ManU, in the same sentence with "dubious PKs" and so on
and that lost fella, Jim, what the "bleep" is he talking about - I clearly remember a PK being given vs ManU at Old Traford not even 4 seasons ago
:grinser:
I'm not daft enough to think Juventus wouldn't have won with or without that penalty. But lets face it Tony, that was never a penalty ... just like it probably shouldn't have been a penalty today against Gilardino.
Still, thems the breaks.
and that lost fella, Jim,
I'm not lost ... a little drunk, but not lost ... i've found my way home alright ... either that or i'm using someone else's computer right now :guw:

Watching it live i was convinced it was a penalty. Only today i saw the replays and it was indeed very dubious.
But the ref was there, next to Iaquinta and he didn't think a sec. before he said it's a PK. There was a contact for sure. Replays can't show it perfectly how hard did the defender pull Iaquinta.
And unlike pre-Calciopoli, there were absolutely no objections from Udinese on the penalty. The only ones objecting are those "We are always victims" fans.
We can say that it wasn't a penalty, refs mistake, but few members here say everything is like Calciopoli never happened and Juve's again doing the old stuff.
If you think about it, there's not a ref who will now give a penalty to Juve if he's not 100% sure it was a penalty. This time refs are aware what will happen to them if they don't play by the rules.
I don't mind at all when people say stuff about Juve. I mind when Milan fans say it. Milan is the team that got more dubious calls last year than any other team ( i have them all on my PC) . Goals from clear offsides, handball goals, unbelievable dives resulting with a PK.....and yet Milan fans dare make such comments.
We have a saying here... it goes smthg like this.... The rabbit is laughing at the donkey because the donkey has big ears.
i thought Rosicky & Van Persie were lively for Arsenal yesterday ... would love to see them in our side as the LM and the other AM alongside Kaka and behind Ronaldo.

I dare to make such a comment because i don't think it was a penalty, not beause i think Juventus are buying refs again or any of that kind of rubbish.
What Milan did or didn't do last season is irrelevant to me as i didn't get to see any live serie A matches at all. However, i can say that i agree with you that some Milan fans in here just use anything as an excuse if we don't win or if Juve wins and it makes me sick.
But going back again, i think your previous post is a bit of an over reaction just because i said it wasn't a penalty.

Of course Jim.
You think it wasn't a penalty and you say it wasn't a penalty. I'd do the same thing.
But i wasn't talking about you at all, obviously. I was asking myself how do some people, Milan fans, dare to make the "Juve are still fixing matches" comments. I mentioned those guys ( eh, what the hell, Giorgos, King Tiger and Warro Bantan) , and i over reacted in my previous post, because they say that everything is the same old, Juve are again flerting with the refs and we still have the pre-calciopoli situation.
These things also make me sick. I got in lot (Looooooot) of fights with Juventus fans who were doing the same things last year with Inter. Everytime Inter scored a goal they were looking for an excuse. It was always an offside, foul in attack, dubious penalty etc.
But when i get in such debate with a Juventino i'm a traitor, when i get in such debate with Milan fans i'm subjective and i'm protecting my club. I must be retarded for being stubborn and still fighting on the internet for such meaningless things.
But i can't help it.

He wasnt totally invisible, he was involved in both penalty incidents and got shots away on both, as well as 1 sublime turn on the edge of the area where he missed the top corner by about an inch
Our only bid so far for him was £17m, we discussed £20m but they rejected it before an official offer was made so the carefully worded statements last week were accurate if slightly dishonest ;)
The problem is actually Saha, if he was fit he could be sold but he keeps having recurrances of his injury and delaying his comeback. Saha is a great striker but his injury problems cause Fergie countless headaches...

My Aunt is a dirty Leeds fan and as anti-Utd as anyone i know, yet she hates Milan just as much  She was at the infamous 1973 CWC final.....
Anyway, Aston Villa had twice as many pens as Utd or any other side last year and even Martin O Neill admitted they were being favoured with some generous calls. Gareth Barry has friends in high places imho :delol:
i thought Rosicky & Van Persie were lively for Arsenal yesterday ... would love to see them in our side as the LM and the other AM alongside Kaka and behind Ronaldo.
V. Persie had an ok game Micah Richards kept him under control but what annoyed me the most were the amount of chances that were going wasted, against another team in the top 4 it would of probably been a different story (Also Persie for me is one of the best PK takers as he used to favour the top corners always but for some reason I dont know why he hit it more or less straight at the keeper) Refs can make mistakes and sometimes they can cost alot, trust me if Arsenal were to lose that game they would of had a lot to say about Kaspers positioning before the PK. Versie and Rosicky I dont think would be suited for Seria A, Versie because what he has said about Arsenal and playing football the Arsenal way (only way I could see him leaving is if Wenger was to leave) and Rosicky is way too injury prone (with a few bad tackles I think he wont be playing for some time).
To be honest I couldnt care less about the result in the game between Tottenham and Man united. One team is the biggest joke of North London and they should build a wall on the Seven Sisters road, the other team has some catching up to do (I can pretty much say that Chelsea will win the PL). I just thought that some calls in that game were dubious, fair enough Arsenal won a PK at OT last season and the refs made some decisions towards us last season but they were nothing compared to yesterday. I might be blind but I aint brainwashed, then again Ferguson has a reputation.
I think Chelsea really, but I just have a feeling Liverpool will be rubbish in Europe and really good in the EPL for once.
:grinser: :grinser: :grinser: :grinser:
Come on
1) Vidic try to win the ball from Berbatov, one pushes the other, After the push from Vidic also the Bulgarian do that and continues to score but Ferdinand is there.
2) We showed so many replays by satelite TV that we couldn't decide but for me is not penalty, it is not a tended arm to give a penalty.
Ferdinand has his arms sticked to his chest, moreover he is out of penalty area, if it could be something could be foul!!.
More pathetic desicions at Old Trafford, the way Ferguson makes the Refs scared is a joke no wonder the team chokes in Euro.
When did Mikel use two feet in that tackle?
He didn't.
Did he raise his studs?
He didn't.
when Rooney commited his 2nd bad foul did he get sent off?
He didn't.
Did saha get booked for simulation, as in he made a meal out of the tackle but it was a foul/free kick.
he didn't
out of those 4 poor decisions all favoured Man Utd.
I'm not saying they bribed him but blatent the ref did ruin Chelsea's chance.
Came across this (lol):
Man Utd 6 Chelsea 1
Manchester United's march towards the 2008 Premiership title continued on Sunday with a stunning display at OT. The Super Reds went ahead just before the kick-off when Giggs was sent away down the left wing.
His cross was handled on the half way line by a CFC defender and a penalty was awarded for this cynical foul. Tevez stepped up to slot the ball home for MU's 43rd penalty of the season.
The 15th minute saw the Super-Smashing Reds go two up after Carvalho was penalised for coughing just outside the area. Cristiano Ronaldo's resultant free kick was slightly miss-hit, but even if the keeper was not being pinned to the floor by Rooney, he would not have saved it. 2-0.
The 21st minute saw more trouble for CFC when JO Mikel was sent-off for enquiring about the referee's Man United shirt. However two minutes after the interval CFC struck back after an amazing piece of good luck. The ref's assistant could only parry Drogbas' shot and Lampard thumped the ball home. Confusion reigned for 10 minutes as the entire M.U squad surrounded the referee, arguing that the ref's assistant had been fouled 15 mins earlier. The referee grudgingly had to give the goal even though he racked his brain for a reason to disallow it.
Fortunately, things settled down again as Paul Scholes took a long-range shot, which deflected off the corner flag but had clearly crossed the line, 3-1.
Just after the restart, un-sportsmanlike Shevchenko was dismissed for making ridiculous claims for a penalty after Rooney had nearly decapitated Drogba. The referee and his assistant missed the incident as they were both asking Giggs for his autograph, but replays showed that Rooney's flying kung-fu kick, followed by a forearm smash were clearly unintentional.
Ten minutes later Ferguson took off Tevez and replaced him with Saha, Nani and Anderson. Man United's 4th came shortly after. Drogba was caught offside just outside the CFC penalty area and Nani's free-kick thundered in after deflecting off the underside of the flood lights.
United kept the pressure on until the bitter end. In the 98th minute Carvalho conceded a free kick just outside his own area for blatantly glancing at the ref. Giggs stepped up and proceeded to chip the ball right into the ref's path and he made no mistake from 10 yards.
Giggs slotted home 6th from the penalty spot after A.Cole went down with a broken leg. Fortunately Rooney was nearby when it happened and, after running 50 yards, he was able to bring the incident to the ref's attention. Unfazed by Cole's cynical tactics, protruding bone and spraying blood, the referee sent him off for diving (and time wasting)and awarded United the pen. Giggs cheekily chipped the ball over the keeper and the crossbar, but the ref decided that it was a goal, because based on past records, Giggs rarely missed.
When the final whistle went after 33 minutes of injury time, CFC traipsed off with their heads low. Beaten by undoubtedly the greatest United outfit ever. 6-1.

Did Joe Cole made a tackle he could brake C. Ronaldo's leg?
Yes and he didn't receive a red card because of Mikel suspension which was stricked. Rooney must have taken a second card as well as other Chelsea players who did dangerous tackles : : :tired: .

Fair enough you have the point about Joe Coles tackle, but what was the Ref on adding so many minutes? He clearly went over the minutes.
In the end Obi should of been on Yellow with both Rooney and Cole sent off, the highlight of the game has to be Sahas theatrics - absolutely comical. The FA were so quick to punish Wenger and Jose for intimidating Refs, what has SAF ever got?

Giorgos there is little point in arguing with eejits like this as he only wants to see the game one way.
Joe Cole's foul was not only a blatant red, it was bordering on assault as he had absolutely no intention whatsoever of going for the ball. If Rooney had done that to one of their players then Bandit would have written a 5000 word essay condemning him for it :dielaugh:
Rooney did get booked though, for running alongside Ashley Cole! the 2nd incident should have been a yellow but the first was an absolute joke decision, the ref got them the wrong way round.
Saha was theatrical but did get fouled as even Bandit admitted. If he is going to get punished for exaggeration then fair enough i wont coplain as i dont like players doing that, but bear in mind this will mean Gila will spend the next few seasons suspended as he is the master of guarenteeing penalties from minor incidents...
Anyone noticed Van Basten was in stadium watching the game and he was close to Abramovich . I don't think he was there to analyze the game of any of Holland players as the only player on pitch from Holland NT was Van der Sar ?

yeah he was sat right behind Abramovich
The latest reports seem to be suggesting RA will bring in a young coach with Grant still general manager/director of football. If that is the case then someone like MvB will be more likely to accept those terms than a senior boss with set views like Hiddink.
lol Steza its a joke buddy, lighten up.
Main reason for me doing that was to bring up the thread as no one speaks about the EPL anymore.

tevez, ronaldo and rooney continued to get into the score sheet.
i'm still waiting for arsenal to drop some pts.. hehe..
btw, thx alot, Stez..
i'm still waiting for arsenal to drop some pts.. hehe..
aint they all?
I watched some of the game between manure and wigan on sky in the pub today - and along with the other 50 - 60 footie fans in there - there were even a few mancs who agreed, that Mike (Spinelss) Riley Totally Bottled it when Rooney made a diabolical foul on Titus Bramble - Studs up and right into his nadgers - rooney knew there was no chance he was going to get the ball - he was so late it was unbeleivable - and what does spineless riley do - Yup! you guessed it - gives shrek a yellow card - he should have had a straight Red - no arguments. If that wasn't a prime example of spineless riley bottling it (as he always does at Old Troff) - a few minutes later riley has a decision go against him (yeah we all nearly feinted in the pub!) shrek starts pouring his usuaul vitriolic abuse at riley - and riley does nada! It truly is time Riley was retired/put down.
Your thoughts?

Your thoughts?
Maybe you should give it up mate :)
Platt and the other commentator both said it was unlucky even to be a yellow, Rooney was pulling his leg up to aboid a collision when he hit Bramble but at full speed it was unavoidable. What did you and your 50 friends think of Riley when he failed to award any of the penalty claims, especially the one when Ronaldo knocked the ball around Melchiot only for Michael Brown to charge straight into him?
As for Arsenal, they will drop points when they make tough trips to a few decent sides. The only side they have faced so far who are decent and in form was Blackburn, and they were held to a draw by them. Utd have already faced Chelsea and made the tough away trips to Everton, Pompey and Citeh.

Fair enough you have the point on Ronaldo but its still comical.
I have to disagree with you on the Arsenal part, even against the blackburn tie they were unlucky and it was only Lehman who made them drop points. United won Chelsea, Everton but it was undeserved, Pompey was a draw and you lost to Citeh whilst Arsenal won Pimpey and Citeh (even though the ties were different). Then again I doubt you would class teams like Citeh and Sevilla as 'in form', out of the two team I would still say Arsenal are more convincing than Man United - soon enough your 1-0 wins shall come to an end (apart from today United never looked in control to me).
As I have voted above I shall stick to it, the title shall go to United and the aim for Arsenal was to be in the top 4 - I still stick by it, another year in transition should be enough and this third team that Wenger has created should be the strongest - then next year Im sure they'll be more ready to give United a shot at the title.

Don't know if any of you knew this, but Cristiano Ronaldo has a book out. Here's the Guardian's take on it:
"Cristiano Ronaldo has just brought a book out. It's called Moments, is published by Macmillan at £18.99 and, at 174 glossy, large-format pages, might actually be worth that if you like the idea of loads of photographs interspersed with illuminating shafts of insight such as: 'Football is my absolute priority, but I do recognise that I am very fond of advertising.'
"The title, and the idea of a book of snapshots and instant recollections, arose because Ronaldo also recognises that at 22 he is too young to write an autobiography. He probably couldn't find the time, anyway. All he could spare for the Old Trafford launch of his own opus was half an hour, for television, radio and newspaper reporters to divide between them. And he refused to remove his cap or his sunglasses on account of the stitches he was sporting after the Roma game.
" 'The timing can't change,' announced his minder/promoter before Ronaldo entered the room. 'Also, no questions about Mourinho, nothing about private life or girlfriends or anything like that, and no general football questions, either.'
This was indeed a moment, the point in time when football departed from its own script and began following one of Hollywood's. The closing scene in Notting Hill, to be exact, where the bookshop owner gatecrashes a film star's press conference and pretends to work for Horse and Hound in order to propose to her. As practically every other topic had been ruled out of bounds I thought about popping the question myself. You will see from the accompanying photograph that I could easily be mistaken for Hugh Grant. But I wasn't sure about Ronaldo as Julia Roberts. Not without removing the sunglasses."

2 weeks back, Benjani scored a stunning hattrick and over shadowed Henry's hattrick for Barca on the same day :bri: He is probably the best forward of EPL rit now since Drogba is out injured.
Thats why I said ACM should sign him. With his striking speed, he sould form the best strike force in Europe, along side Gila :pp20:

Whoah
United and Chelsea are on a roll - United have just won their fourth game by scoring 4 goals which you must take your hat off too and Chelsea have just totally killed Citeh with a 6-0 thrashing. I believe its still going to be a real cracker this season in the PL and any team from the big four can win it. However I still have my wager on United taking the crown - played stunning stuff today.

Man United - soon enough your 1-0 wins shall come to an end (apart from today United never looked in control to me).
you were certainly right about that! ;)
Tevez and Rooney are figuring out how to play together and it is coming together nicely at the moment, considering theyve onyl had 5 or so games together its scary to think how good a partnership that could be after a season together
Nani and Anderson deserve a great deal of credit too, its not easy joining a side like Utd at that age with so little experience but both have shown some sublime skill and have more than held there own. Anderson in particular has impressed me as I knew little about him, he had made so few appearances and came in after missing almost a season injured and no summer break due to the Copa.
Arsenals first proper test today and typical of the gooners luck they get to face a Liverpool side stuck in their worst run of form for since Benitez arrived ! :tong: The Gooners are over 2-1 to win this one  a price which really doesnt reflect current form in anyway...
