View Full Version : Mourinho sacked after Chelsea crisis meeting
Jose Mourinho has ended his three-year reign as Chelsea manager following his latest bust up with owner Roman Abramovich, according to reports.
Abramovich called crisis talks following Tuesday night's disappointing 1-1 draw with Norwegian minnows Rosenborg in the Champions League where the fractious duo had furious falling out.
Mourinho is believed to have informed senior players of his departure following training on Wednesday. One of those players insists that the manager has not resigned but has been sacked by the Blues.
During the launch of a new Chelsea documentary - Blue Revolution - at the Vue cinema in Fulham on Thursday night an emotional Mourinho refused to talk to the press unaware the story had been leaked. He is understood to have confirmed his departure to the players in attendance, which did not include Frank Lampard and John Terry.
Mourinho's rocky relationship with Abramovich is public knowledge and despite an apparent thaw in relations last season the duo were again at odds over the role of £30million striker Andrei Shevchenko and the Blues' dour style of football even before Tuesday's result brought events to a head.
The Portuguese manager, who has won the Champions League with Porto and two Premier League titles as Chelsea manager, was the subject of continual scrutiny last season and hinted at an exit last summer when he admitted he 'was a bit fed up with certain things' at the club.
Many betting companies have stopped taking odds on Mourinho quitting Chelsea, but the club have yet to confirm the reports.
After three-years at the London club the self-styled 'Special One' is expected to take training for the final time on Thursday, when he will say good bye to his players.
Chelsea's next match is against Premier League champions Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

This tells us so much about Chelsea's awful management. I must sayt that Mourinho doesn't deserve it; yes, his team didn't play well for the past couple of games but the management has shown NO SIGN OF SUPPORT for his coach. Milan is a completely different story. How many people have been crying for Ancelotti to leave, and yet our management refused to do, and eventually Ancelotti brought us another trophy?
This is disgusting act by the Chelsea management (or owner). One of the worst decisions made.
I don't like this decision either but Roman invested millions and million in this team and he still didn't get what he wants.
Plus, instead of improving, Chelsea is underachieving and playing worse than ever.
Mourinho was given all the money in the world, he was given the most expensive team in the world and he couldn't even get to CL final in 3 attempts.
I guess this was too much for someone like Roman who's used to get what he wants.

"You cant always get what you want!"
Who's gonna be the next coach? Capello? maybe Hiddink... :987: ?

I know but tell that to Abramovich :)

I guess Chelsea will have to go for someone free ( Capello, Lippi, some English coach) because it's the start of the season and not many coaches are available.
Hiddink and Scolari were two names mentioned a lot in last 2 days but they are both in a tricky situation with the national teams they're coaching and i doubt they will leave now.
Inter lost, Mourinho is free. Anybody taking odds on that? :D

Well, nobody's exactly accused the Chelski management from the past few years of having any scruples to begin with.

Probably the most satisfying thing I've read this week. Sorry, Roman, money can't buy everything. Oh well, at least Sheva probably learned English for the words "You're fired."

I like your sig, although one might argue that we have better defense, rather than the GK :)

Sacking the coach will have a short-term benefit, I think, but in the long run I think Chelsea is heading for another bad season...

seems like sheva is having the last laugh. What matter most is the outcome of the dressing room atsmosphere after these saga? Players like terry and lampard who has back his coach strongly all these while. Giallani do your stuff and get terry's ass to Milan :grinser:

Look at the bright side… it means Milan will have less contender in the Champions League as Chelsea players will have to struggle adjusting with the new coach.
Interestingly what will happen to Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Carvalho, Ferreira performance and their role in the team?
Also what will happen to Sheva performance to improve under new coach? (hopefully not much).. :zany:
With that hopefully they shall fall in to the realms of the Division leagues where they belong - hopefully the whole club shall crumbles bit by bit and Roman runs off leaving them bankrupt and unable to pay back their debts. Oh I see another Leeds happening and its a beautiful dream.
The most arrogant manager I ever saw - this week all he kept talking about was Eggs & Ommelettes - well this must be egg in the face. Had no respect for other Managers or Players, plus it was a joke considering the wages he was on.
Now lets be realistic Roman wont get Capello or Lippi as they dont exactly play attractive football, my best bet would be Big Phil. To be honest im still shocked, look at this article which came out a few days ago:

Oh well, Chelsea had better soak up their two bought EPL titles, 'cause it ain't gonna happen again for awhile. Maybe in another fifty years? :D
This is God's way of punishing them for reaming English football for some time now. ;)

Word. Now we'll have at least a temporary break from his wannabe-Yogi Berra routine.

Not a big fan of Jose, but I do lift my hat off for him since he has shown that he is a special one. Could you name another first-class coach who started his career by being "only" a translator?
With an unlimited wallet he got even more arrogant than he already was, so i've not got alot of sympathy with how he departed.

looks like Chelski will need a new team because Mourinho will take his ex Porto boys with him that is for sure.

Ramos of Sevilla is one possibilty, Hiddink is another. Abramovich was most concerned with how chelsea play, the defeats hurt no doubt but he was more bothered that when they did win it tended to be 1-0 or 2-0 with set pieces and very defensive tactics.
Whoever he gets in will have to play attacking football, which rules Capello out ;)
I did like Mourinho as much as any rival teams manager can be liked, he was almost always respectful towards Fergie and generally on his side where Benitez and Wenger were concerned :D The arrogance is often overplayed too, the quotes on paper often looked quite bad but if you ever saw the press conferences they were taken from he was usually joking when he said most of the quotes he is most famed for.
Ultimately it is Abramovich's team but he can hardly blame Mourinho for his tactics when they were the very tactics that brought Mourinho to everyones attention in the first place, Sheva didnt fit those tactics and Mourinho has been in an impossible position for a year now.
Money can't buy you everything... not a CL trophy ;)
Just like my fave line from the summer mercato thread
bye bye Mourinho :kap: :kap: :kap:
Considering his experience as translator, perhaps Shevchelski is willing to hire him as his private English instructor . . . you know, for the good old time sake :grinser:

Here's the chances of how i see things.
Capello -> Chelsea (30%)
Lippi -> Chelsea (5%)
Hiddink -> Chelsea (30%)
Deschamps -> Chelsea (10%)
Mancini -> Chelsea (15%)
Mourinho -> Inter (40%)
Mourinho -> Juve (15%)
Ranieri -> Chelsea (10%)

Avram Grant is the new manager of Chelsea. I'm neither happy or sad about Mourinho. He's a quality coach who probably would have done better had he been given more freedom. However, his arrogance and idiocy over the years means you can't really feel sorry for him.
I don't think he should or will go Italy. He might be a top coach but he craves freedom and to be allowed to build his own squads, which in Italy simply won't happen. Portugal and Inter are two hotly tipped favourites to get him, but I wonder whether Tottenham would be a interesting prospect for him.

I'd love to see him go for Napoli or Lazio although the chances are close to 1%. He wants money. Inter is the most logical option, and ofcourse Real Madrid but Schuster seems fine atm.
Mourinho for the England job? :guw:
Stezagud

i think Spurs would interest him too, money is being overestimated as a motivator as he is already loaded and will get £25m compensation from Chelsea. Mourinho's ego will push him to prove Chelsea wrong by humiliating them as much as possible and nothing could do that better than by beating them with their smaller local rivals.
The Portugal job is probably favourite though as he has publicly stated he wanted to manage them at some point and they are struggling a bit at the moment.
Reports suggest he is going to start working with the Portugal National team, it will be interesting because that will mean Big Phil will be free.
I think the only realistic option RA will go for will be Hiddink but I doubt the Russians will want to let him go, so most likely Grant will look after the team until next summer when Hiddink is free. The Sevilla president came out today and stated that Ramos will not leave and I doubt anyone else would want to work under that preassure. Whoever said Jose might end up at Tottenham I very much doubt it because he would have to start from scratch and I feel the club isnt big enough for him, unless they can replace Chelsea in the top 4.

That won't be a problem. Abramovich is 'the Russians'. He's the one who brought Hiddink to the Russian National team and he pays his salary. He also bailed out Hiddink when he was busted for not paying taxes.

Even with Mourinho they wouldn't have been able to beat us, they've never faced a team that play the way we play.

Mourinho won't exactly be falling on hard times, though, as Chelski will pay him the remainder of his contract, which adds up to about $40 million U.S. :rolleyes:

I know what you mean but I read before how when things were going sour between RA and JM people were talking about Hiddink replacing him, then Putin comes out and tells RA that Hiddink should not leave his post to which RA replied that Hiddink will not leave the national team.
I doubt RA would go against his word, especially to the one he gave to Putin.

Hey there is a article saying that Ballack is no longer wanted and he can go maybe we should snap him up, the article on goal.com says we are willing to pay 4.5 mil euros a year wages to him
Mourinho was sensationally dismissed as Chelski coach!!!
The major players shocked by this decision has asked the club for transfers, among them Drogba, Lampard, Carvalho, Essien, Makalele...
If this is true Milan should do everything they can to sign Lampard, he is awesome!!!
Kaka1899

Lampard wouldnt work imo as he wants the ball all the time and that would starve Pirlo and Kaka of the time they usually get Ballack imo would be a cheaper and better buy.

im sure that chelsea player sat moment will wait till the dust settles before doing anything plus to see where the "special one " turnsup - probably inter if mancini continues with recent performaces !!!
as for milan signing another midfielder i cant see it as lampard and ballack are inferior technically and pasing wise than what we already have - pirlo , kak, seedorf, gourcuff, even ambro and gattuso can do what lampard does- he scores deflected goals and does nothingmore hence - ballack is over paid and too lazy - we hav emrson now added to midfield whom looks fresher than in oprevious years so thanks but no thanks to anyone from chelsea
- only player i would consider good enough and an improvement rather than getting for sake of it would be cech as dida is woeful and getting worse !!!
terry suits english football ahley cole wou be another but he has gone backwards in talent since jiopning the blues- so agian no point -
you joking?
have you seen lampard's long-distance shots?? that's how he scores all the time, those shots are amazing... i don't like chelski all that much, but lampard and terry are amazing

Ballack inferior?! come on man did you see the goal against Croatia in euro 2004! it was at the peak of technical ability to hit it so hard but under control.

Yeah, but '04 was a long time ago, though. He's been as equally disappointing as Sheva.

so I don't think you'll be able to read it, but it refers to The Sun.

If there's anyone we should poach it should be Drogba. With Ronaldo's constant injuries and Gilardino's lack of impact we could do with a great hitman up front. Our Midfield is secure enough.
it refers to the sun
That says it all really! I think you've fallen for a nonsense rumour forward.

Lampard & Ballack are technically inferior to Ambrosini & Gattuso? Oh come on, that's nonsense! I'm not Lampard's biggest fan, but he's a better than you're giving him credit for.
we hav emrson now added to midfield whom looks fresher than in oprevious years
How can you say that about Emerson when he's hardly played for us? I think you're jumping the gun a little with that comment.
With the lack of quality midfield/forward options we have on the bench, some of the chelsea players could easily become part of the team. Even though i don't believe any of these rumours about the chelsea players already asking to leave.
wils6000
21-09-2007, 12:02
lampard is very overated- hence why he cant adapt to different styles of play - ie when playing for england he is poor- gerrard can cope hence why he is the player everyone wants - and why chelsea wante dhim - he can play multiple positions- - chelsea alow lampard the freedom to shoot as he has a defensive player behind him - but take away deflections and his strike rate isnt that great- his pasing ability is also quite limited and he would nt last in italy- spain possibly as bit more room -
emerson at madird looked slow and iinterested- at juve and Roma he was a stopper- and already he has shown more foraward thinking so again why add ballack to an already oversubscribed midfield- what we are truly missing at moment and we must forget him is GOURCUFF - he will be such a great player but the more midfieders we sign the less he may play and so for that reason alone- do not buy anmore MF players-
I honestly can't see how you can come to the conclusion that Emerson is such an improved player after about 2 games for us, if that. Emerson was not bought for his forward play, he was bought as another defensive midfielder.
Creatively in our central midfield we have Pirlo & Gourcuff, that's it. The others are all bruisers with limited forward thinking. I agree that we should give Gourcuff all the opportunities we can, but i still think we can have another offensive midfielder in our ranks. Just looking at our bench against benfica should show that we need more options.
I really hope these are just rumors. I don't like Premier League and I mostly hate Chelsea, but loosing a strong european side is not gonna do any good for the football. I think it's better to wait a couple of days for the news and then really see the picture.
Responding to other comments - we really lack a decent striker. How come Pato doesn't play? I don't know a whole lot about him but videos on youtube look promising :)
Not to sound like i'm picking on you Forward, but anyone who calls themselves a Milan fan should know Pato's situation.
He won't be available for selection until the new year.

Why are all talking like if all these players are avaible, sacking the coash doesn't mean that the players will leave and even if this was true a player like Ballack will join Real Madrid if he leave Chelsea not because its his will, but because Calderon will over pay him as he is one of the most wanted players by the coash and the fans and also because both our coash and managment are not conviced with him, and I also agree that Lampard wont suit our style not because he is not good enough but because he wont has the same freedom (or even half of it ) in Milan, and to be honest if we want to sign any Chelsea player then we should not try someone who is a regular starter there because he would never accept the bench role, however, singnig Drogba and Carvallio(spelling?) would be more than just good the former is one of the best strikers in Europe and is way better than our strikers so he would work directly in the system and the second is a soild defender who might accept the bench role and who knows may be we can play with all Nesta, Kala and Carvallio, Cech is also an excellent option IMO he is second best only after Buffon so he would solve our problem in the goal keeper position for years as he is pretty young (26 for a goal keeper is very young).
P.S. I dont see any Chelsea letting any player go, and even if some of them insisted to leave the club(very unlikely) then I dont see them coming to us because of their very high salaries that we cant match in Milan.
