I'm quite open to the idea, I think some fresh ideas could rejuvenate us long term and prompt a few players in and out in time. Carlo has brought us a few trophies and has worked well with what he has got, but I wonder if because he's part of this family culture that he's less pushy with demanding players he really needs. How often do managers stay long term at a club nowadays?

Maurizio
27-09-2007, 14:56
Mourinho would be discontent with the players we have.

Mourinho is a very good coach who made also a lot of mistakes the last months at Chelsea. The problem of Milan is our board who didn't make transfers and not Ancelotti who does the best to succeed.

Jeff
27-09-2007, 16:05
It will be a lame move by the management to go for Morinuho now and replace Ancelotti.
Indeed, if we do that, we'll make the same mistake that Chelsea has committed.

Certainly our management is cleverer than that?

Mourinho is a pragmatist, similar to Capello, the kind of coach who puts results above all else. In his scheme there will never be no place for 2/3 trequartista in the starting eleven as he really emphasizes the solidity in midfield. It helps the team to win, but the way the team plays is really really boring

sounds like emerson, brocchi, gattuso, ambro (2 of these 4) and pirlo in midfield makes attacking formation? And he did play 3-4-3 many times with chelsea.

But like said, it would be stupid to change the coach now. Let ancelotti do his job over the season and than be evaluated at the last months of it.

Mourinho is the perfect coach for this team right now. First of all, he is a very tactical coach who knows how to bring the best out of his players. Guys like Lampard, Robben, Drogba, Terry and many more reached the peek of their career under him. He knows his players well and knows how to adjust his playing style to fit his personnel. Although he seems like a cold hearted guy from the outside, he actually does a very good job communicating with his players and is actually loved by his players.

Most importantly, he is a guy who has character and won't back down to anyone. Carlo Ancelotti is a good coach but he is too weak of a personality. Every time he ask for players, the board will just tell him no and that is it. Carlo will shut up, go home and start working on how to use the 40 year olds for one more year. Mourinho will stand up for himself and demand the damn board to open up their wallet and spend the money this team earned on the team. He will demand players and if the board don't fulfill their promises, he is not shy to open a can of whoop ass on them. That is exactly the type of character we need. The board is not going to change their ways because we said so, but they will start responding once their coach lashes out at them. And that is exactly why this board will never hire him as our coach. Not because he is not a good decision but because they dont want to spend money on a team and they don't want a coach who would openly complain about that. We will miss out a great coach just like we miss out on many great players every summer.

Ya; he is too weak of a personality but still manage to bring a wrecked Milan team to Champion League glory. Lucky him!

I would love to see him in AC Milan but the problem is that I rate Carlo better than him over all :5ok: even though he has made d!da :googly: our gk. But one thing is for sure that under Jose ACM won't play with a 4-3-2-1 formation in the CL & I love this formation + I think he will side line Pippo, Seedorf & Maldini bcoz of their ages ;)
Only Calo will use this formation and trusts the senior players like Maldini and Pippo, no one esle has the guts to do that in CL :bri:

Mourinho is one of the best. All my supports are for Carlo now, but he is not Ferguson, and Milan is not MU.

He deserves Milan's coach position. The only obstacle is he was not related with Milan, even Italian football, making him hard to be a part of the Family.

"The Special One" is a good manager in the sense that he more flexible tactically than Carlo. He has the cahones to play 1 striker, 2 strikers, and wingers, which is for some reason I don't understand is anathema in these parts. Mourinho's strong personality is also effective in bringing the team together. And look at his record, he's a proven winner. I like him.

But with the President and his silly requirements (2 strikers) and his hand-picked Vice-President who is stingy with the purse strings and very much involved in team affairs, no way Jose would sign on here after the layers of crap he had to deal with at Chelsea.

If he comes here it'll be a Fatih Terim debacle all over again.

Milany
30-09-2007, 04:10
i dont think the family thing is a problem, look at lampard, terry and the others they are missing morinho. he may be hot headed and aggresive but thats the motivation our players need.

Nadir
01-10-2007, 09:06
Mourinho needs independence and he won't find it at Milan. That being said, Berlusconi and Galliani don't buy players that the coach does not want - like in the case of Shevchenko at Chelsea. And they are fairly good with getting players the coach DOES want - Pato, for example.

There are many speculations currently about the possibilities for Mourinho to coach. The latest is with the national team of England.
So, my question is, if it so happened that Mourinho was assigned as Milan's new coach, would you support such decision or not?

Milany
03-12-2007, 11:33
it would be great, but only if he had the same family like attitude like Carlo.

but if morinho was to be in, then say goodbye to more than half of our team which won 2 champions league, 1 serie a, 2 super cup, and soon to be one world cup.

-Maldini
-Nesta
-Simic
-Janku
-Oddo
-Cafu
-Favali
-Brochi
-Ambro
-Fiori
-Kalac
-Dida
-Inzaghi
-Ronaldo
-Brochi

and thats something i doubt Berlu/Galliani duo would agree on.

IMHO, one of the differences between Ancelotti and Mourinho, is that Ancelotti is flexible, can work with the players he has at hand, yet still create a winning team. Mourinho, on the other hand, needs everything his way, or else no result... imho :devs:

Yup milany, thats exactly why milan plays like crap (with some good moments) this season. Half of those should be replaced anyway, no matter the coach. The difference is, carlo is quiet and will obviously take the bullet and work with whatever he's left (like selling sheva and getting RO, loaning RO and getting noone) where mourinho would start creaming and kicking all around. Thats why mourinho aint an option for milan and since there is no better than carlo (which i am statring to dislike very much these days despite his proven trainer record) let the carlo be and see if he escapes the fate one more time or goes down with the ship this time :)

The Sunday Mirror and News of the World believe the club set to tempt him abroad is Italian giants Milan, currently struggling under long-term boss Carlo Ancelotti in Serie A despite reaching the knock-out stage of the Champions League.

The Mirror quotes a Mourinho 'confidant': "There have been lots of calls bouncing around Europe and he will take the AC Milan job if he gets the chance. That's the one he wants above all the rest."

The NOTW reckon that another - or perhaps the same? - confidant spelled out the situation in even clearer fashion.

I don't want Mourinho.

Milan have the reputation of being a club like a family with a great atmosphere, and very few players are unhappy here. I like this aspect of our club. With Mourinho I think this would change for the worse as he is an arrogant and cynical coach who does not care about his players the same way our club does.

Although he probably is a good coach, I don't think he would fit in very well and I want Milan to look elsewhere for a new coach (when the time for change comes).

Should for whatever reason Carlo step down at the end of the season (unlikely to begin with imo), Jose isn't a bad choice. He's a coach who gets results and instils a strong mentality within his squads, two of the qualities our squad can benefit from.

Additionally, despite being loathed by anyone but the team he coaches for, he is very highly respected as a professional amongst his peers and has shown Milan a lot of respect over the last 5 years, as well as showing desire to coach in Italy since leaving Chelsea.

Considering the current possible list of coaches available, if Carlo were to leave then we could do a lot worse than Mourinho, as the only other coaches around of his calibre that are available are Lippi and Capello (very unlikely to come back to Milan). There's rumours that guys like Van Basten, Rijkaard and Donadoni (depending on Euro '08) will most probably be available, but for me only Donadoni has genuinely shown enough promise to coach at Milan in the future, but right now he doesn't have the credentials nor experience to take on such a massive challenge.

There should be an "undecided" option in the poll because that's where I am at the moment. Yes he has obtained results at Chelsea and Porto but there are some aspects of his personality which I really do not like.

First of all comes the "Special One" attitude. If it's one thing I hate in someone it's arrogance and although his fans have made all sorts of excuses for the "Special One", it just comes across as arrogance to me. His outspoken nature might not go down too well with the management who are always advertising the "family atmosphere" that Milan has.

Secondly one of the important things we had during the Ancelotti era (before this 2 DM formation which I loath) is that of beautiful attacking football. Chelsea under Mourinho really haven't been mascots for beautiful football and I'm sure many people can attest to falling asleep during Chelsea's games. While results are important, I believe winning with entertaining performances are even more important for attracting both fans and players.

That aside, he is one of the few proven available coaches out there who can replace Carlo if he were to leave. The chances of him coming here however, are slim to none because of the fact that Galliani has always says that our next coach will be a past player. The most likely thing IMO is an Ancelotti - Donadoni swap after Euro '08 if Italy does not impress.

Graeme C
10-12-2007, 13:55
i really dont think Donadoni has enough club experience to take over at Milan. I might change my mind if Italy with euro 2008 :) Mourinho however has the balls to say if hes not happy about transfers or slacking players. Which for us fans could be a good thing, instead of playing players for the sake of playing them.

I am not a huge fan of Chelsea myself, but they play typical English football, it's nothing that Mourinho imposed on them.
Besides I have watched many games with Chelsea and at times they were pretty entertaining to watch :) Essien, Cole, Drogba, Lampard specifically bring the charm to their game.

Anyway, I have read quite a bit about Mourinho, and he is known for inspiring the players to do what they best can. He doesn't make anyone play boring football, he encourages the players to contribute their best skills. So, for example if Kaka likes and is known for his dribbling skills, that's exactly what Mourinho will want him to do.

Mourihno seems that will be our new coach after the summer, i would like Carletto to stay but he will probably leave for national team of Italy where he could a very good job, after Ancelotti i think the best choise is Mourihno not Lippi either Donadoni.... if he will leave[I][U]..........

hitmannq8
10-12-2007, 19:19
I think it should be Lippi. Capello wouldn't come back to Milan after our history. I would really rather an Italian coach but if all of seem to be taken, then Mourinho. Besides where would Lippi coach? I dont think he'll get the England job, where could he realistically take over? I can't see Inter/Roma/Fiorentina change coach, there is Juve/Napoli/Lazio but all of which seem weak financially and he was already at Juve so maybe not. Maybe Barcelona? And then Rjikaard would be available? Ofcourse there's also Van Basten..and possibly Donadoni.

Alot of options but I prefer Lippi

Jeff
10-12-2007, 20:05
I agree with hitmannq8. I'll prefer Lippi over Mourinho, who is great coach no doubt, because Lippi has been very successful and he knows most of the Milan players in and out (e.g., Pirlo, Gattuso, Ambro etc).

If Ancelotti is to leave for the national team, that's fine, I respect that. In fact, I expect to see him coaching national team in the (near) future. Italy will do very well for the next 12 years to come I believe, with some great coaches. (The question is, how is Ancelotti going to change the midfield once Pirlo retire from the national team, but that's a story in years to come).

First of all, it is nothing more than a rumor at this point. However, if we had to imagine him joining Milan, I certainly think it would be interesting. Though he has got quite a controversial character, even those who loathe his guts cannot dispute the fact that he is a tactical genius. Does not necessarily offer the most attractive style of play, but hey, it is not necessarily attractiveness that matters nowadays, right? Otherwise, Barcelona would have clinched the La Liga title already(they're far from it :) ) and wouldn't have lost a single game....But now, all people talk about when they speak of Barcelona is black sheep, cows, horses, donkeys, oxen, dogs whatever... :stupid: :5horse: :cpuke: :cpuke:
Bottomline, I would personally welcome his arrival. I wouldn't have my arms wide open but I would certainly not say no....

Cool Ancelotti: Mourinho Speculation Spurs Me On

With speculation suggestiung that Jose Mourinho will be appointed as the new manager of AC Milan next season, the current job-holder, Carlo Ancelotti, says with a shrug that it just motivates him more...

Speculation linking Jose Mourinho with AC Milan does not faze the Rossoneri's incumbent, Carlo Ancelotti, who would be the victim of any Mourinho appointment at the San Siro.

Mourinho took himself out of contention for the vacant England manager's job this week against a background of reports that the former Chelsea boss has been lined up to replace Ancelotti at Milan at the end of the season.

That would be enough to make most managers feel insecure, but Ancelotti remains phlegmatic about it all.

"I read an article in the Italian papers about Mourinho," the Italian told reporters in Yokohama, Japan, ahead of Milan's Fifa Club World Cup semi-final against Japan's Urawa Reds on Thursday.

"Milan were supposed to have offered him my job. They may have done but I haven't been informed by the club that there has been a formal offer.

"If Mourinho does want the job it just gives me extra motivation. External talk like that doesn't give me any added pressure."

Although Milan have struggled domestically this season and currently lie 10th in Serie A, 19 points adrift of leaders and city rivals Internazionale, Ancelotti sees no reason to panic.

"I'm simply concentrating on my job," he said. "I'm not distracted by rumours about Mourinho or whatever. I hope to carry on tomorrow as I did today."

Milan defender Alessandro Nesta is fully behind his current boss.

"We've worked together for a long time and we trust the coach," said Nesta.

"We have won many titles. We won the Champions League - that's why we're in Japan. We hope he stays."

Ancelotti also confirmed that striker Brazilian striker Ronaldo would be rested against Urawa in order to give him longer to get fit for Sunday's final.

"We talked with the medical staff and Ronaldo himself and decided not to risk him tomorrow," said Ancelotti.

"Obviously we hope Ronaldo will be fit to play in the final. You have to be careful and listen to the advice of the doctors in cases like this."

Ronaldo has hardly trained since suffering a calf strain while warming up for a Champions League game in Lisbon last month.

Ancelotti also revealed that club captain Paolo Maldini, playing in his final season before retiring, will make a rare start on Thursday.

Assuming Milan beat Urawa, the Rossoneri are likely to face Argentina's Boca Juniors in the final.

The South American champions play Tunisia's Etoile Sahel in Tokyo on Wednesday.

I wouldnt mind him at all. Remember how everyone was worried when Carlo joined us? At Juventus, he was renowned for his defensive football, but at Milan he was the one who converted Pirlo to a DM, and played Pirlo, Rui Costa, Seedorf all in the same line-up.

I think the same will happen with Mourinho. If he joins Milan, he'll bring with him the grit and steel, but he'll also start playing a more attacking, open game.

we should give carlo a spot in the management or assitent coach.

I voted "NO" on mourinho, he is good but his attitude is not similar as the club milan.
milan is a family and mourinho can't give us that... he is great coach, with lots of expierence (for such an age). hance, we need some1 who is very good, who still makes us a family and that provides us the players we are in need of

He does tell them what he needs and they consider it, but they make the final decisions, Carlo can only offer his opinion. He is the reason we got Crespo a few years ago and he is also a key factor in us buying Emerson and Pato for this season, as he requested such players.

What do you think is this just bull, or is it for real?

And would this be good for Milan or not?

Personaly I think we should keep Ancelotti because he's has won everything that can be won with a team and he has made MIlan in to a historical team with MOST INTERNATIONAL TITLES in the world. Something is obviously wrong and it seems like it's a combination of our non-existing squad depth and lack of motivation among some of the players.
I remember Costacurta saying (summer 2005) that every manager has his era, and at one point you become tired of the same old jokes and training methods and exercises. I think there is some truth in that.

I'm beginning to understand less and less of Carletto's tactical dispositions. He makes some weird decisions sometimes. Against Roma we were trailing 0-1 and then he puts Favalli in the game. And he only used two substitutions and left Pippo on the bench(!). Why not use a more offensive-minded player than Favalli? I know that Pippo and Aladino can't function together, but it can't possibly create fewer chances that we were creating at that point. I mean, it doesn't matter if we lose 0-1 or 0-2.
It seems that he has become too conservative. And Carletto is obviously still mad with Gourcuff over what happened last summer, since he's keeping him on the bench.

But then again; last season he showed why he is one of the best managers in the world. We were penalised by Calciopoli, had 11 players injured at one point (november 2006) and two absolutely worthless forwards (Oliveira and Borriello) and STILL he managed to win Champions League. That's pure class.
And his record with us speaks for itself.

Because I value loyalty highly, I'm not gonna say that Carletto should be fired, but on the other hand I'm not gonna cry if he does get fired.

If he does get fired (or quit) then I think we are gonna sign a manager who has a history with us. Van Basten, Rijkaard, Donadoni or Tassotti are the most likely choices IMO.

Carlo has still so much to give, and he has superachieved with the limited resources he had in the last seasons.
Where can we find a closest friend, a Milan legend, a great technician, a masterful tactician and a true gentleman if not Carlo himself?

Carlo has to believe the youngster's ability.Carlo doesn't need to be replaced.

I fail to understand why you guys are so obsessed with youths. Once they play then you open threads bashing them, as it happened with Gilardino and Gourcuff, complaining how naive they are and how tactically clueless they are, ignoring tactics are one of those elements a player learn with experience.

Yeah....Experience....you're right. If they gain experience,They will be stronger.Experience is the best teacher.
So,unexperienced players need that teacher, experience. They want to be a good player, don't they?Aren't they the future of Milan?

None will bash them if they did play against weaker sides or when Milan is up with 2or more goals like Lazio VS Milan this year, MIlan was 3 goals up and Carlo pushed with Brocchi instead of Gourcof! If it was any other coach he would have used Gourcoff to give him the needed confidence that he lacks.

Some questions should be asked from Carlo now for what he has done wrong this season.

1- Why Maldini is not playing as a CB along side Nesta? Specially when this is the last time fans could see both of them playing together in partnership :5ok:

2- Why ACM is still not playing with 2 strikers upfront in the home matches? Gila-Inzaghi is not THAT bad partnership. :proud:

3- Why the HELL he has said that he still has the confidence in d!da??? What else d!da should do to prove that hi is a loser??? :d33:

1) Kaladze's done a solid, if not decent, job in the centre, whilst we're short on reliable fullbacks.
2) Gila - Inzaghi is not THAT bad? have they even performed adequately together?
3) Dida is lacking confidence, Carlo's show of support offers confidence.

Probably its more useful to place Paolo as CB while Kala plays as a LB as Paolo cant play there any more (just a my opinion).

It's a possibility, but bear in mind that Carlo is possibly trying to allow Kala to play consistently at CB as he see's him as Maldini's replacement in that position for the long term. While Maldini tends to switch positions on the pitch fairly easily, Kaladze always appears to need a little time to adjust.

Well in my opinion Nesta+Kala is no where near as good as Nesta+Maldini :rollani:
Very simply, if Maldini is fit he should play as a CB along side Nesta. This is the last season of Paolo and we will never have the joy of watching Nesta+Maldini again :p1510:

of course.i enjoy every sec of this season that we still be able to see Nesta+Maldini.precious moments :pp20:
Kala is versatile as can play LB and CB.and i believe he will be in the 1st squad next season.
but for now sometimes i like the idea: Kaladze + Nesta/Bonera on the CB and put Maldini to LB, then we will see Janku flys on the left wing !! hehe :D

Nesta and Maldini is one of the best CB pairings ever, and probably the best of the past 10-15 years in the game altogether (where there have been some great pairings).

However, we need to look ahead and we can't rely on Maldini in the long term, so the quicker we can get Nesta and Kala developing their partnership the better.

If I am not mistaken, Kaladze was paired with Nesta since last season. In the first matches he was paired with Nesta, he learned to play as CB quickly.

So I am also thinking why did Ancelotti played Nesta and Khaladze as CB and Maldini as fullback, why not Nesta and Maldini in central defence and Khaladze as fullback because Kaladze did well when he played there. Khaladze can play as CB starting next season. I know Khaladze want to play in central defence and doesnt really like to play as fullback but Ancelotti could tell him that he will be first choice in central defence after Nesta next season.

I prefer more to see Khaladze as fullback than Jankulovski because Khaka is much better in defensive role and pretty good when he went forward and delivered crosses.

With Kalaze as fullback, Ancelotti could use a more offensive player in Ambrosini's position (Serginho, Jankulovski, Gourcuff or even Seedorf :D)

Actually, Kaladze was put at CB a few seasons ago and did very well. But he always needs a little time in the position to develop a strong understanding with whoever he's playing with and adjust to the demands of the role.

Why chop and change to accomodate Maldini in the centre and then change things back next season where Nesta and Kala again will need time to get back to playing with each other as normal, consistency is of great importance when talking about CB's. Maldini isn't playing poorly in LB either, and whether he plays CB or LB, he can't play more than the odd game a week, so we'd constantly have to change Nesta's partner.

I think, he showed a great play in CB since last year when Maldini was injured.

For me, it's not about accomodating Maldini but more about a great partnership between Nesta and Maldini. Maldini is still better than Kala as a partner for Nesta.

Maldini can still play well as fullback both defensively and offensively but not for 90 minutes. He can only play well defensively there for 90 minutes (with some forward moves of course).

I have also thought about Kaladze's difficulty to adapt to a CB role after pretty long injury like he had last season. He needed time to play there again when he recovered from his injury.

But in this season, like you said that Maldini cant play all matches anymore, Khaladze still has time to build a good partnership with Nesta when Maldini doesn't play (considering Maldini for the rest of the season always plays as CB when he plays).

I am just thinking an option how we can have a great wall in central defence and a reliable fullback on left side. I know this wont happen easily as Kaladze is not a Maldini who can switch and adapt easily in his new position.

Maybe Ancelotti will use Kaladze more often than Maldini as CB in the second half of this season. But at least, hopefully Ancelotti will use Nesta+Maldini as CBs in Champions League because Milan still need Maldini's experience and leadership in central defence in the Champions League's matches, I think.
