I saw this on another forum and thought this was a good point.

"post by kaka & gourcuff @acmilanonline.com"

A friend of mine asked how would Milan look like in 5 years from now (s******g again on the old players) but there is a limp of truth in it...

Players ages in 5 years

Dida (38)
Kalac (39)
Fiore (43)

Cafu (42)
Serginho (41)
Maldini (44)
Nesta (36)
Favalli (40)
Oddo (36)
Simic (36)
Jankulovski (35) (Kaladze (34))

Seedorf (36)
Ba (38)
Ambrosini (35)
Emerson (36)
Brocchi (36)
(Gattuso (34), Pirlo (33))

Inzaghi (39)
Ronaldo (36)

Which leaves us :

Keepers: /

Defenders : Darmian (23), Digao (26), Bonera (31)

Midfielders : Kakà (30), Gourcuff (26) ,(Di Gennaro)

Strikers : Gilardino (30), Aubameyang (25), Pato(23)

Now you might all think, 5 years is a long time, you have enough time to buy new players but we need to buy around

3 keepers

7 defenders

8 midfielders

2-3 strikers.

From which half of them need to be Superclass...

Mix this problem with cheap Berlusconi and you get , a great problem...
So I think it's going to be time to start buying some new players, if possible -30

great post.

but dont you think that in less than 5 years carlo is getting out, so the there isnt much of a problem.

It's not a good point. Maldini retires at the end of the season and I expect Cafu and Serginho will also retire. The make up of the squad will be very different 2 years from now let alone 5. Management know if they want to keep hold of Kaka' we need a competitive squad, something we don't have at the moment. Yes Berlusconi has been cheap but who do you blame for not playing Gourcuff and the other youngsters in the squad, who do you blame for not playing Donadel, Foggia, Matri, Pozzi? That's entirely Ancelotti's fault, no one else is to blame.

LOL...if Milan continue with our current transfer policiy, it wont be too difficult to figure out where we'll be in five years:

1) All the members of our CL winning team last year will still be there, the minimum requirement is 1 functioning leg, if you can hop, you're on the team

2) Cafu will still be starting games VS Siena or Catania. Serginho will still be injured and cheering the team on from the sidelines

3) Favalli would be the reigning World Player of the Year---second year running...

4) Think of all the footballers who are at the peak of their powers today and are at the peaks of their transfer fees----Ronaldinho, Etoo, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry---all the players we should be signing NOW. They would be signed on free transfers and their names will be emblazoned in gold on our web page. All will then go on to play half a season and move to Olympiakos on free transfers.

5) Sheva will make his long awaited comeback at age 36, much to the delight of our "romantic" president.

:)

How can you blame Ancelotti when he's put under pressure by those 2 morons to win everything, with carp players like Favalli, Kalac etc.

We need a serious overhaul of players, but unfortunately we need a serious overhaul of management which won't happen. As long as there are old players on free's we know where Gayliani will be.

i cant believe how the same argument and negativity seems to creep back in the moment we draw a few games- yes we would all love to sign a dream team - but hang on we are champions of europe - and for a 6 minute madness would have been twice champions in 3 years- now realmadird have shown that the galatico thing doesnt work and inter for years has shown buying big also doesnt always work out- yet all the while we have been succesful and havnt gone mad so the club is a very viable and stable condition - something that cant be said for man utd, chelsea, madrid, and most of europe other big clubs- the 2 that stand out as being sensible are arsenal and milan - however i digress from my point

blaming carlo for everything again is madness - yes there are a few duds in the squad but that can be said everywhere- our transfer policy as i say is restricted but not hleped by tax problems that means players can earn more in spain, add to the fact that italian footy took a hammering in last two years due to scandals and it all adds to a diffcicult period to sign players- so dont forget we have signed pato for january - and have gourcuff to sit in our midfield- so its not all doom and gloom, we seem to get the best out of the 30 plus players so i am happy for that to continue as as most of europe rights these players off and win nothing we take them and win things- it itsnt the coaches fault that gilardino is woeful at the moment - agian a younger player that you all crave !!!! - plus ronaldos injury keepin g him out means a reliance on pipo which again cant be helped by the coach -

Tony75
01-10-2007, 05:51
We were promised a major signing. As for duds they all seem to play either in goal, def or upfront. How can we wait for R99, when they can't even diagnose his injury properly? Practically everybody could see that R99 was going to have problems, bar our managment. Gourcuff doesn't play, so ....

We are far from stable. When all the pensioners are gone, we'll need to sign at least 10 players, mainly in first team, and all other clubs will put their prices up as we we'll be desperate. But knowing gayliani & berlus we'll end up with basement players, not worthy of empoli or atalanta.
I don't see a future for Carlo as he't not given the players he asked for, or any players we need.

Have you ever thought if he actually played Donati, Foggia, Donadel and Marzoratti they would be here and players like Cafu and Favalli wouldn't? You can't blame management for selling players who never play.

I think the point is bizarre because it assumes that our management can't see the same thing. So either it is hopelessly naive or arrogant. I think by then we will blood in new players.

Also, what's with the negativity around here? I understand if all of you are pissed off after a game (I was), but this is bordering on an almost pathological hatred of Milan.

To be honest me and jim have been saying about the tranfers and the age of the squad for at least the last 3 seasons and atm its sooo painful watching Milan, its pretty upsetting!!

Ive had enough really, and have lost faith in this season already. Ive even been starting to think about not watching the matches anymore this season, and just get on with my work or something. And thats pretty bad for me to say that, im even angry with myself for thinking that.

Quote me too people: This is NOT Kaka's last season at Milan (God willing, of course).

I really don't think he will leave, especially after what he said yesterday (you can check it on the offical site). Any team can go through a bad patch, but I think we will bounce back.

We're European Champions FFS! The year after is always going to be hard, but come on I wouldn't trade places with any other team in Europe.

I highly doubt this will be his last season. But I also highly doubt he'll be here in 5 years time. Especially when we run out of wage upgrades for him
I'm hoping he'll prove me wrong but at around 28-29 he'll probably be looking for 'another challenge' as they all say.

I'm not worried though because in 5 years time we would either:
1. Have a new promising CAM that could do Kaka's job
2. Have changed formation so that we don't need a Kaka type CAM.

So if/when Kaka moves on, I'm sure the management would have adequately prepared for it. Oh and there's no way Milan in 5 years will look like the Milan today. Half our team would be in their 30s and would either have retired or been replaced. Players like Di Gennaro/Antonelli/P. Aubameyang would have become used to Serie A and integrated into the first team. So there's no need to worry folks. We've started investing more into our youth team so in 5 years time we will be reaping those benefits.

Agreed. The current make-up of the team is largely down to Ancelotti. His replacement will stamp his own authority on the squad. People seem to forget over the past few years we have signed Kaka', Bonera, Gilardino and Pato. These players aren't old!

"What Is Wrong With Milan?

If you believe the Italian media then Milan are officially in a crisis. Struggling terribly in Serie A with no wins in five Serie A games – what has happened to the Champions of Europe? Goal.com wants to know what you think…

Last season Milan finished the Serie A campaign in fourth place, a monumental 36 points behind city-rivals and Scudetto-winners Inter. In any normal year there would have been an outcry that Milan could possibly finish so far off the pace.

However all talk of the Rossoneri’s shortcomings seemed to disappear as soon as they lifted the Champions League in Athens in May. Of course the season had now been a hugely successful one – Milan had won the most prestigious club trophy in European football and what’s more they had done it in style after some sensational performances against Bayern Munich and Manchester United en route to the final.

Therefore Milan went into the summer transfer market with an arrogant aura that they were the Champions of Europe and did not need to change something that was not broken. The Rossoneri’s only notable purchases were 31-year-old ‘has-been’ Emerson from Real Madrid and the 18-year-old Alexandre Pato who, despite his description as a wonderkid, is only eligible to play for the Rossoneri from January onwards.

The result of this transfer strategy is that Milan now sit in 11th position in Serie A, already seven points behind leaders Inter after just six games. Furthermore Carlo Ancelotti’s men have failed to win in the league since the opening day of the season and they were dreadfully poor during the 1-1 draw with Catania at the weekend.

Critics in Italy all have their theories as to why things have gone wrong. One explanation is that Milan are simply too old. Out of the first choice starting-11, six are over 30 and only two are below the age of 29, Andrea Pirlo, who is 28, and Kaka, who is 25. The argument is that a team with so many old players simply cannot cope with the rigours of playing twice a week.

The second explanation is that Milan need to buy a striker. The Rossoneri have scored just five goals in their last five Serie A games, with two of these being penalties. This record is simply not good enough. What is even crazier is that Milan currently have just three senior strikers on their books.

Filippo Inzaghi can still be brilliant, but at 34, he cannot be expected to play 40 games a season and his best years are certainly behind him. Alberto Gilardino, to put it simply, is just not good enough to play for such a prestigious club. He is by no means a bad player, but he does not posses the technical ability or the striker intelligence to succeed. Then of course there is Ronaldo, who is either injured or overweight, and despite his undoubted genius, at 31 he hardly represents the future.

So this makes Milan’s decision not to invest during the summer in a proven striker all the more bamboozling. According to ex-Milan player Oscar Damiani, Milan passed up the opportunity to sign Luca Toni, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and David Trezeguet in the summer, three genuine world-class strikers. The fact that Toni only moved to Bayern Munich for a fee of around £9m makes this decision even harder to understand.

The simplicity of it all is that, in my opinion, Milan are probably only one world-class striker away from having a truly awesome team. The defence is sound, and the midfield of Pirlo, Gattuso, Seedorf, Ambrosini and Kaka is undoubtedly the best in European club football. Finally the Rossoneri possess the best player in the world in the absolutely outstanding Kaka.

However all of this is wasted because Milan do not have a striker to finish the job. If either Toni, Trezeguet or Van Nistelrooy were playing up front for Milan, they would have scored about eight goals this season already. The sheer brilliance of the midfield means that chances will always be created, as was the case in the defeat to Palermo last week.

However this does not explain why, despite their dreadful form in the league over the past year, Milan are still the number one team in Europe when it comes to the Champions League. This topic requires a lot more analysis than I can offer here but the statistics talk for themselves. In the past five years, Milan have won the trophy twice and reached the final, semi-final and quarter-final on one occasion each.

This is an incredible record, unrivalled in recent years. Milan were simply magnificent in winning the competition last season and they have also began in imperious form this time around with a dominant 2-1 victory over Benfica a fortnight ago. So why do Milan continue to perform in Europe but struggle so badly in Serie A?

Are they, as many Italian critics say, prioritising the Champions League too much? Carlo Ancelotti has openly admitted that he prefers success in Europe to success at home. Or is the slow, passing game that Milan play so delightfully against foreign opposition just not suited to Serie A? Have Milan just been unlucky so far this season in the league?

Goal.com wants to know your views! What is wrong with Milan and what should they do, if anything, to solve their problems?

I think the reason for our problems is quite obvious. Our squad simply isn't good enough. We have 10-11 players who are simply fantastic footballers, but there is such a difference in quality between our best players and the second best that we are bound to suffer in the league.

Kalac, Cafu, Serginho, Favalli, Simic and Brocchi are all players who are simply not good enough for us. Some of them have been superb in the past, but have gotten too old. Others were never good enough to begin with.
Then we have Maldini, who is struggling with injury problems now at the end of his career, and Ronaldo, who will probably only play about 20-25 games for us this season - if that many.
Add to these Inzaghi, who is still a good goal scorer, but frankly getting too old to perform consistently well, and Gilardino, who I think needs to change clubs to get back to his old self.

It is pretty clear that our squad is just not good enough. Even if we can field a great side in the CL every 2-3 weeks, it does not mean that we have a squad capable of challenging for the Serie A. The problem is just that we are dependent on doing well in the Serie A if we want to play in the CL.

Four years ago we had such a good squad that within a year we had won the CL, the Coppa Italia, the European Supercup and the Serie A. The main difference is that then we had a squad full of great players. Most of the squad is still the same, but many of these players have gotten older, and do not perform as well as they have in the past. Also we have lost some great players like Tomasson, Sheva, Rui Costa, Stam etc, without replacing them.

I understand that the market has changed, and that we can't spend as much on players as we did in the past, but seriously - if Bayern Munich can buy players like Klose and Toni after disastrous season where they did not even qualify for the CL, then why on Earth can't we, as Champions of Europe and one of the richest clubs in the world, go out there and find ourselves some decent players who can ensure this club's success in the future?

What is going to happen now is that eventually the club will realize that it is necessary to make changes to the squad, and we will have more or less a revolution at Milan. The problem here is that these changes could have happened gradually, which would have been much better, as when you make too many changes to a team at once, the team will most likely spend a season or two playing very inconsistently.

The truth of the matter is that Berlu and Uncle Fester have messed up - big time. And the consequence is that yet again, us fans have to watch one of our rivals run away with the Scudetto, while we don't have a squad that is anywhere near good enough to challenge them for the title. We'll be lucky to qualify for next season's CL.

Maybe he will stay, but i don't believe he'll be at our club for 10 years. That kind of thing hardly ever happens in football anymore. It's a realistic view, not a slate on anyone at the club.

It's not about being angry after just one game, it's being angry about the same issues that have cropped up in the past 3 seasons.

I guess if the people who are talking about the bad side of things and criticising the team are a divorced women's group, the people who see everything as rosy and not a problem in sight must be some sort of addicts anonymous group as you know what they say, admitting there is a problem is the first step to recovery!

He's gotten to powerful with his results, and they can't stand someone being more important to Milan than themselves.

Why are Berlu/Galliani so tight? They made over 60? 65? Million over the last 2 years from the sale of Sheva & winning the CL. I wonder what they've spent the money on apart from RO, Oddo, Ronaldo, Pato & Emerson (the total must be between 25 and 30 Million).

Actually last year's Champions League brought in 70 million euros and remember Berlusconi was saving the money for Ronaldinho and Eto'o. I think some of you are losing perspective. Don't worry about Pippo. Once Pato starts playing, I'll be surprised if Inzaghi will even be much of a contributor anymore, considering that on top of Pato he also have to compete for a spot with Ronaldo and Gila. As for Van Basten, I really dislike the man. I honestly believe he's a horrible coach and even worse of a man. I'm sure you remember the glory days of Holland. Remember how good Kluivert, Davids and Seedorf were for Holland? He axed all those guys and he is doing the same crap today with Pennant and Babel. He's a racist guys. If he ever came to Milan, he would go CRAZY with having so many Brazilian players. The only reason this guy brought Seedorf back is because he really didn't have much of choice in terms of players and considering Seedorf is playing his best football, it was a no brainer. Van Basten as coach, let's pray not. As for Maldini being our next coach, it would bring nothing but joy and tears to men.

Pennant plays for England. To claim Van Basten is racist is absurd. Maduro, Babel, all won their first caps under him. Huntelaar and Van Nistelrooy are among the players he has dropped regularly. Kluivert? You have got to be serious, why do you think he was dropped? He's garbage.

I personally think Basten has done a mental job at Holland, this team can get far believe me. The only problem is the players are too fragile one touch to Persie or Robben and their injured for weeks.

I disagree, especially about the part of him being racist (did you forget he was pretty close to Rijkaard and Gullit?).

Kluivert's career went downhill a long time ago, and few coaches would have picked him when players like Van Nistelrooy and Makaay were playing well and younger talent like Kuyt and Huntelaar were coming through.

When Van Basten took over Davids had also gone down in his career, he wasn't at the same heights as he was at Juve and clearly ageing, so it's natural he was replaced.

Seedorf has had personal issues with Van Basten as he doesn't get to play where he wants, while MVB seems a pretty tough coach. Like Davids and Kluivert, Seedorf is also part of the older generation, whilst Van Basten is clearly building the next generation of the dutch side. You're right he was left with little choice to bring Seedorf back though, and that's credit to Seedorf.

Pennant isn't dutch and Babel is a player that as said above, won his first caps under MVB. Additionally, I know when asked about Babel, MVB did praise him quite highly (I forget what the source is).

MVB for me has done a reasonable job with Holland. He's building a good side for the future and considering it's so early in his coaching career, it's a decent achievement.

As for Maldini being coach, I certainly don't think he should be the next one. As much as I love him, he's got no coaching background nor do we know what he's capable of. It would be insanity to hire him as the next manager.

For sure in the next 5 years milan has to win at least 1 scudetto unless they turn out like inter and dunt win a scudetto for so many years.

The difference is, so far we filled the gaps with a couple of Champions league trophies.. And I don't mind going for more CL trophies and less scudetti
