View Full Version : Official: Hugo Lloris to Lyons after rejecting Milan

Giovanni
17-05-2008, 13:14
There are big rumours that Hugo Lloris, french 23y o Nice keeper, has found an agreement with Milan and now there's only need to find an agreement with Nice.
Many journalists reported that Lloris, U21 France keeper, was seen in Milanello a few days ago, probably to undertake some medical tests, especially involving his injured hand.

A specific thread is due, because this rumour is getting bigger and we are definitely going to sign a new keeper this summer. The tag price is said to be around 8 M.

No, but you can find videos on youtube

FYI, he's 21yo Gio ;)

thats some good news, proves that Milan are finally looking for reinforcements.

Flamini and Lloris(hopefully).. that means we can still wait for 2 or 3 players no? :)

Galliani Said he'll be buying a striker, CB and Ronaldinho ;)

Yes, most probably room mates on away trips, the unusual part is a personal (of a player) video of any kind ending up on youtube.

OMG Milan will have the first gay player ever in the history and that will promote our image a lot to the gay race like Canna did in 2006 (or 2007?) when he was voted the most favorite footballer from the gays in Italy lol

I say get him get him :))

Who matters his personal preferences ? All we want him to do is stoping balls not to concede goals !! And in this job, he's excellent, so let's buy him, in France, they say he has agreed a 4-year contract, but he didn't answer when journalists asked him (simply because there was still one match to go, now it's over, and because Milan and Nice didn't negociate yet) ...

Oh and in the video, it's 2 beds, Ederson (going to Lyon) and Lloris speaking about a match against Marseille, I will confirm that another time, I have some problems with my sound ... (so it was probably the night before the match !!).

I can't believe everyone's talking about the second YouTube link and no one mentioned the first one posted by Ace.

YouTube clips tend to highlight the cream of a player's performances and usually demonstrate what the player is capable of but his average performances are usualy slightly below the expectation the video sets. So getting to my point...if this kid is even 70% as good as that video (which I absolutely loved) I'd say Milan should sign him.

What do you all think of Boruc & Lloris as #1 & 2 or vice versa? Another option is Abbiati & Lloris (as a cheaper alternative).

I read on goal.com for the first time today that Braida admitted that Dida is leaving for sure.

My opinion on Hugo Lloris after watching some of his videos on You Tube

Strengths :
1.Superb reflexes
2. Lightning quick to get out of the box to stop any threat of the striker running at him and scoring
3.very brave keeper in making tackles (whether he uses his hands, legs or even head in that matter) when there is a one-on-one situation b/w the striker & himself

Weaknesses :
1.The only weaknes i could see is that most of the times he tends to punch the ball into the striker's path, rather than punching it away to concede a cornre (that world class keepers like schmeichel & buffon do)

On this basis...I say go get him Galliani.....

Why do you automatically assume he's gay right away? It's fairly common for teammates to bunk together when on the road.

He reminds me of Iker Casillas, at first sight. His technique seems overall good. I think his young age is a credit for his future development. My only concern is whether this guy will be able to stand the pressures to be Milan's n°1.

Gio, i agree with you about how he is going to handle pressure but from what i saw, i beleive this guy got it in him, he is way better from our keeper and i believe if we sign him we will have good cover for our weakest link in the team after all we must believe in our scouts' vision. He may not be the best choice but we are going to stop cursing every time some one shoot at our goal or cross the ball into our area, lol canizares is a free agent so is harry kewell i am having a feelings they will be wearing red and black. I just wish we end up with a good squad especially kaka is demanding 20 great player at the squad and once again Carlo claims that rhingo is staying, and the toughest speech, galliani saying that any player who is having a contract, must honour it. On the other hand courrier della sport said today that ronaldinho is coming to milan even if we play in uefa cup but what changes is that we will stick on borrielo and sheva instead of drogba, and some sources saying that milan just approched etoo with a 15 m pound bid its getting crazy...

Hugo Lloris is not in the french preliminary squad for Euro 2008.

The goalkeepers in the squad are:
Gregory Coupet (Lyon), Mickael Landreau (Paris Saint-Germain), Sebastien Frey (Fiorentina), Steve Mandanda (Marseille).

Changing a keeper is the most difficult thing to do on the market. Finding good keepers is like winning a lottery. I'm confident about Lloris but i'm aware that changing keeper is the most difficult technical operation a club has to do on the market.

Braida had an interwiew in which he said Dida and most likely Kalac will leave Milan so Milan will need 2 new goalkeepers. One of them could be Abiatti and the other one is still in the search. he claimed that Boruc is fantastic Gk that has proven himself in CL but he is a bit expencive...he didnt say anything about Lloris.

Lloris is currently injured ... he was taken the last times, this injury has put him out from the national team.

I think the best solution would be Abbiati (if he wants to come back because the club has really treated him badly) and Lloris as a sub to start the season, and then after 4-5 months, the contrary ...

I found some information for our new keeper

http://www.lfp.fr/joueur/index.asp?no_joueur=105440

his statistic says that he played in 30 matches and conceded 25 goals. that means 1.2 goals average in each match. but lets assume that because Nice defenders not as good as us i think. i saw some from his performances, he is talented but to play as Milan 1st goalkeeper? i prefer to keep Kalac in Milan. he is showed that he be able to be 1st goal keeper too even he must improves in few big games (still hurt when he was conceded a goal from Merda). Boruc is way overated. i didn't see his brilliant performance except the one against us in Celtic. Frey is more realistic. his resume is good, and he knows better Serie A as Lloris needs to learn more about it. changing goalkeeper is much confusing than changing striker of midfielder or defender. because once one of them get the 1st spot the chance for others to play is very slim. and i bet others wont be happy to be benched for long time. specially if who sit on the bench is young talented like Lloris or Frey. but i dont think Frey will leaves Viola after what they did in this season.

Of course, it is pretty obvious that Frey is a better GK then Boruc and Lloris. But now when Viola are in CL I dont think that Della Valle will sell him. From what Frey is concerned I agree with Galliani that no players refuses Milan.

Boruc is a very good gk, has experience and can be a good addition. While Lloris is veeery young and if he is as good people say, he can even improve. Our problem is that we need to go for the scudetto next year so...we need immediate impact.

Age doesn't really matter, games he played does. A goalie that's 28 but was an understudy for 10 years is less experienced than a 21 year old that has 4 years of experience of being first keeper. Besides Valdez, Casillias were also pretty young and had less experience when they started. If the management have faith in him then they should give him a chance if not then there is no point in signing him at all (Unless if we loan him back for 2 years of something).

Don't worry, Lloris would be a great addition, more than Boruc I think, simply because, how can he do worst than both Dida and Kalac (despite his good performances this year, he never was and probably will never be a top player).

And I'm not sure that Frey is really better than Lloris !! Maybe a bit because he is older, but Lloris should be one step higher than Frey in some years ...

Lloris seems to be awaited in Lyon to sign a contract, but the fact is he came to Milan and agreed with us (anyway he came to visit the club and speak with some of our management), he came to Bordeaux to visit too and speak with some of their management, he didn't do that with Lyon yet.

About Coupet, he's going to Tottenham.

If we really lose Lloris, the best targets would be:
- Buffon (impossible)
- Cech (too expensive)
- Frey
- Amelia
- What about Carrizo ?

And once again, our management lost out a bright young star for cheap because they are too cheap to pay for it. Good God, it was 8 million euros! We are one of the richest clubs in the world and we couldn't even pay for that! Doesn't this management ever have a plan for the mercato? I mean, you are supposed to narrow down to a few targets and sign those targets as soon as you can. But instead, we look around and say "well, we have so many different options, there is no need to hurry. One of them has to be sold for cheap to us, right?" And then we spend months "negotiating" with every single one of them only to lose out on all of them because they are "too expensive" for us and we have "other options". Well done, Galliani, if you fail this summer, you better start running for the hills.

Milan can offer 8M €, and I'm pretty sure that the offer has been sent, it's just that all is not in our hands: if Lloris thinks he isn't ready for a big championship or if he's afraid to be a Milan player or if he thinks it's better for him to still play in France and be in Lyon or anything else, what can we do else ?!
You're not going to cut his hands to sign (especially for a GK ...) ?!

That's a big IF that if is true I guess everybody doesn't want to come to Milan like Galiani and Berlu think.

His comment may be boring...and maybe in the case of Lloris things were not totally in our hands, but his comment is dead on regarding the handling of recent transfer markets.

Management talk and talk and talk and talk and talk some more :d55: and then very little is accomplished in the end. If they were half as good in completing a deal as they are in talking, we'd have finshed all our summer signings by now.

I don't want them to spend money like Chelsea, or be like Real Madrid. What I want in a summer transfer market is for them to accomplish something substancial.
Name a target, go after him, and get him!!! Don't talk about it be about it!!

Why does it take months of talking to get something accomplished. Transfer windows are like a woman in labour for 2 and half months. :str:

Management have mis-handled recent transfer markets to such an extent that this year we ended up out of the Coppa Italia (Catania) out of the CL in historic fashion and out 4th in the League. We were talking about catching fourth like we were catching a scudetto. We got our asses handed to us this year. :rocky:

Now heading in to this (past) year did manangement really think that we actually had enough pieces and were active enough in the transfer market to contend for even one cup. :stupid: Milan is my team, but I didn't buy it for one second. And people were defending management like their infaliable. :w221:
Well we've clearly seen this year that they're not.

Management has to accept a MASSIVE part of the blame for this season and in my opinion it started in past two summer transfer window and I'm starting to see the same pattern this year. A whole bunch of names but nothing doing.

So Galiani, Braida and Milan management I really hope that you boys can get it right this year. Don't speak this year we know what you sound like. :5chore:

I have no problem reading the same boring post like slifersd's as long as we get the same boring result in our transfer markets.

Get things done so we can start knocking out the competition. :r14:

Forza Milan :5ok:

Good point by both parties. My only counterargument against Mr. Anonymous (and btw, you are totally right about the horrible transfer done by the management in recent years) :

Geotev is arguing that slifersd is putting too much faith in the newspaper or media's report. In fact, Milan may not have decided to go for the youngstars but the media portray that we are pursuing him (how many times has it happened?); media misinterpreted the management's comments, written something that is not meant to be (but perhaps want to be).

So for example, how many times have you seen news from goal.com that such and such time is going to trade Kaka` with so-and-so-with-cash? And btw, we didn't seem to cherish the fact that the management has done well to keep Kaka`, preventing Milan to become yet another Barcelona?

Second, I don't know what's the real effect of talking in front of the public about "Milan will sign who, who, or who". Does it have any effects on the player? Is it a game plan to get a lower price? Can it be a smokescreen that the management puts up in order to distract the public's attention so that they don't know who Milan is really buying?

Finally, we couldn't judge whether Milan is doing badly in the transfer in terms of getting the trasnfer we want. Getting the RIGHT target is one thing and getting THE target is yet another. Milan has thus far been awful at getting the right target (except most notably Kaka`, Pato, the everyone-thought-he-is-great Gila, and I would count Oddo and Janku who conributed to our success in CL and supercup etc. last year but have been in dismal form in the league), but whether they have GOTTEN their target is another thing that we probably know little of.

Cheers - j

That was very observant of you as I didn't actually read many posts in this particular thread. But I think it should be pointed out that the reason you are offering here doesn't sound very logical to me. Look, Lloris has been in contact with Milan for a while now, and one would have to assume that he started thinking about life in Milan for quite sometime now. Now IF as you said he had doubts and problems with moving to Italy and play for Milan, he probably would've made it clear to us before. And yet, he maintained contact with us, and even traveled here for a medical with us. He was all but ready to get things done until somebody made a better offer.

Milan can indeed offer 8 million, but they didn't, don't and will not offer it to Nice. When somebody made a better offer to Nice and possibly to the player, Milan management decided to back out as they always do. That is why we missed out on yet another fantastic player. Now granted, Lloris may not be 100% sure about this move to begin with, but the move was all but done for quite sometime. That is, of course, before somebody made a better offer; before we wanted to wait to get rid of the garbage they signed over the years as our GKs; and before Abbiatti's agent started whining about how Abbiatti won't come back to play backup to Lloris. As usual, our management went for the cheap option in Abbiatti and refused to raise the price even a little to get the deal done. And that is why we are in this situation right now. Lloris didn't make this deal collapse, Milan did.

The facts are that we don't know anything except what medias want to say ... so we know nothing !!
Lloris is a smart guy, and wanting to think about his future is something that every player would have to do instead of signing for the biggest ...

You talk about Abbiati: he's going to Palermo, apparely it is official. So our management didn't count on our "cheap option".

We are Milan, everybody would like to play here (or almost), BUT you can't forget things, especially in France:
- Dugarry lol, JPP, Dhorasso, a failure
- Gourcuff, young promising talent, a failure and a move back in France (probably)

And you know what is said now when there are reports about Milan wanting a young French player (Nasri, Benzema some months ago, Ben Arfa, Menez, now Lloris) ? Because of what has happened with Gourcuff, everybody in medias says "My advice, go in Lyon or Bordeaux instead of Milan", of course, all people in France now prefer their players to move in France instead of going abroad and be killed (I mean in football lol) ... that happened many times with 16-17yo guys going to Liverpool too for example and who only play their first professional years in ... France now they are 22-23yo whereas they were the best of their generation.

And so, to come back to Lloris, you want to know the last reports in France ? He said he wasn't going to sign to Lyon today (Aulas ... likes to speak a lot, too much) but will decide and give his decision Thursday, so before saying "we failed with Lloris", just wait to really know where he goes. And if he chooses another club, wait to know if we really wanted him before commenting by "our management failed" ...

That said, I go to the other topic !! :r14:

PS: For the "boring" part, sorry, but I don't like when someone posts a comment that is the contrary of the precedent post that was an explanation of the situation (there, it was one from me, I'm French, so I think I'm more aware about what happens with Lloris, but that could be an explanation from someone else, it would be the same thing, it's a forum, so we have time to read and then to post, if we only post without reading, let's create a personal blog).

Point taken. I didn't read much in this thread because I thought Lloris was ours for the taken and there was no point of getting any more updates on the situation. It was my fault and I will keep that in mind the next time.

As far as the Lloris saga goes, I guess we will have to wait until the decision is final to see what the deal is here. My main problem isn't necessarily with this one particular deal. Lloris is a great young player, but even I wasn't sure he would've been able to be our first choice by next year. The thing is, our management needs to focus on the right targets instead of looking around all the time and let great opportunities pass us by. Until that problem is addressed, we are going to have one after another rough mercatos.

Translation of what said Lloris to local press today:

"I don't want to leave without thinking what is best for me and my career, I have many offers, from Tottenham, Lyon, Milan, and they are offers I can't refuse. I'll give my decision this Thursday, the one I think is the best for me."

We just have to wait, but I really hope he will be our next GK ...

From that news it all boils down to what Lloris decides. We all know he should make the obvious and correct choice in choosing Milan over two clubs (Lyon and Spurs) who both have ceilings to the amount of success they can enjoy.

If he decides that he wants a particular club then the offers made by the other two wont matter and the deal should go through. If it is Milan he wants then he will either accept, try and get a bit more which is reasonable or try to be greedy in which case Milan will walk away. Lets hope he shows some intelligence, if not who cares. Most of us dont even know much about him anyway, theres plenty of goalies in the sea :zany:

Like I said, the only problem with him is people around him who have probably said him not to come to Milan everyday ... if he doesn't listen to them, he'll come here. If he does, he'll be afraid because he'll think about Gourcuff's case and will prefer to go in Lyon where there is no more GK at the moment.

I meant they don't have GK anymore officially lol, Coupet goes to Newcastle or Tottenham, can't remember, and Vercoutre has not a decent level to play.

We have officially still Dida, Kalac, Abbiati, Storari who could be there next year ...

I know bro, I made a joke but I won't laugh when we start the season with Dida, Kalac and Storari as our first keeper. Dida should be sold coz of his huge paycheck (released might be the better word), Abbiati will be sold coz I don't think he want to play with us and who could blame him. And Kalac or Stoari could stay as a back up.
Anybody figured out yet why on earth we bought Stoari for? Or should we just add him with the emerson file? Maybe we could ask agents scully and mulder to sort that out
Hence we still lack a real number one. I thought Kalac would do worse than he did but let's face it he isn't Milan material a great back up maybe even a good viscous looking bodyguard but nothing more.

GeoTav
27-05-2008, 10:41
If I remember, for Storari, it was because Dida was injuried ... but Storari played only one match and Dida was restablished, so Storari has never played again lol ...

If I were in this guy's shoes, I'd stay home and sign with a local club than traverse to a whole new country at such a young age. Look at Muslera with Lazio.

Storari played three matches with us, conceding seven goals. I liked him but I think he's better off at Cagliari.

If we are unable to sign Lloris or any other GK for financial reasons, we must bring Abiatti back. Abiatti and Kalac combo can work well at least for a year. However our priority for solving our GK problems must begin with getting rid of Dida. His wages hurt us alot. Also, we have given him enough time to come back to form. I agree that he had injuries but it does not mean we as a club should be altruistic and hang on to him until he recovers (which I don't think can happen).

As long as not so expensive, it's ok but I've read Palermo change their target from Amelia to Abbiati because he is too expensive (I hope not too expensive for Milan :D).

Sell Abbiati and add his transfer fee to buy a GOOD GK whoever he is.

It's a bit funny to read Galliani comments that we will have Abbiati, Kalac and Dida if Abbiati stays with Milan. It seems we have grey plan.

Why dont we have plan like : "We will buy new GK. If none are available, we will use Abbiati, Kalac and Dida." It's similar expression with Galliani's one but with different meaning and emphasizing.

We are the club not Abbiati, we are the one who decide our squad and not just depend on player's wish.

If Llioris signed with Lyon than he is only afraid about competition IMO. He is not player that suit for us with regard his character.

Milan have 2 GK that are worth to compete with him. They are Kalac and Dida. We know how Dida has been in this year. Kalac is not a super goalie as he has only made his mark this season. What Kalac's done this year is good (not great) but a younger good GK should be able to beat him. And plus Kalac is almost 36 yo.

So, Llioris has bright future in Milan if he has the spirit to fight for a spot. It's about character. Is he a champion or not?

So, back to topic, there are still many options for our GK (but please NO ABBIATI!:D) : Frey, Boruc, Amelia etc.

I don't think he was affraid of competition since kalac and dida are so old, we shouldn't forget that Lyon is pretty rich and that it's the best club in France, his native country so he could probably earn as much there as he could here, he got a 5 year deal aswell what shows they really believe in him maybe we didn't offer so much for so long etc...
So why would he bother and take a risk of joining a foreign country and league if you have the opportunity to sign closer at home at a prestigeous club. Milan is a bigger name than Lyon but they play CL (and will play it for the next five years for sure, we on the other hand are on crossroads).
You could blame him for a lack of ambition in our point of view but people could also think he's smart building up his carreer one step at the time...

No, you cant compare big club like Milan, Real, Barca to Lyon. Lyon or French league is not like English, Spanish or Italian league. It shows how his ambition is if he's satisfied to join Lyon.

And I doubt, he could earn as much as Milan's offer (if indeed Milan offered him a contract). The lowest wage in Milan could be the middle wage in Lyon. The middle wage in Milan could be the highest wage in Lyon.

Lyon is not a big club since enough time for people to grow up cheering this club ... 7th time they are champions this year (shows Ligue 1 level), but before, they were nothing or almost !! lol

Furthermore, their image isn't that good in France, Marseille or even Paris these last few years (not nowadays anyway) have a better image because they have a past in European competitions, Lyon doesn't.

Lyon was really good this year and may be even better next year. (depending what happens in the transfer market)

As we all know they were knocked out my this years CL winners and not by much. They are quickly reaching status of serious contenders for the CL. And if they continue attracting and signing players of high qualilty and calibre they will be there sooner rather than later.

I'm a big of a Milan fan as anyone in here, but I'm not going to say that because a player chooses Lyon rather than Milan he's not Milan material and that he is lacking in ambition.

Some players choose inferior teams as they feel they can help it to take the next big step forward.

I can't let you saying such things ... it is the worst year of Lyon since they lead (and play alone lol) French championship.

They played really poorly for most of the year (often worst than us, don't worry about that). They're far to be able to win the next CL, you want to know why ? Simply because some players will leave this club, like every year, and Aulas will get plus-values thanks to these sold players, like every year too.

Oh and they will change AGAIN their coach ... umh not sure actually, there's some crisis in this club: Aulas want to fire Perrin who is an average coach, but his main problem is that Perrin is the first Lyon coach to have won 2 titles in a single season ... I don't explain you what is their ambiancy (things you can see during their matches and in players declarations).

I judge him based on what i saw, he is nothing special. I can tell you the first time i saw buffon play when he was still in Parma, i actually shoot up from my seat and is amazed by his saves and can't stop talking about him to my brother and friends. Now that is what i call special, you know he is going to be one of the best if not the best someday. Lloris will NEVER be anything special going by the standard i saw the clips, he can't even hold onto a ball securely and make superb reflex saves. If that is his best then he is nothing more than average.

I agree with hmwook, Lloris did not impress me much. I wouldn't be confident if Milan signed a 21 year old kid to be our starter and he doesnt even speak the same language as the players. I'd much rather Frey or Kalac.

Dida I could have accepted, but I have lost all my respect for the guy after he recently said that he wanted to stay in Milan (the real reason ofcourse is that salary of 4m/season he is earning) and not leave even when we asked him to leave. Some people have no self-pity and are care only about money - Dida is one of them.

Back to Lloris, the world definitely is not over with him not coming to Milan..but there is something that has disappointed me. Galliani did state recently that we were trying to get Lloris, what I dont like is that Lloris is the latest player from a growing list of players that have snubbed Milan for other teams in recent years.

Well, I dont know that for sure but I dont need to be a genius to figure that one out. If he is on the bench with a salary that is more expensive that half of the team (or should I say one of the most expensive salaries in Europe), and sometimes he even gets injured by just sitting on the bench, then he definitely is a liability. That would lead to the club wanting him out, which I am sure they have asked him to leave, which has lead to people like Leonardo commenting on the situation and saying 'Dida is staying'.

You're nearer to the pulse so I will end by making these statements from what I've seen.

Even though they may have not had their best season I think saying they played really poorly is a bit of an overstatement given they won their league. Maybe I overstated how well they played, but they still won the league.

Lyon did exceptionally well in the the CL this year. Bowing out to MAN-U
2 - 1 is amazing. IMO they have shown growth in the competition. If they had the same draws as Fenerbache I'd venture to say they'd probably have made it to the finals.

In this years transfer window I think they will be a buying and not a selling team like last year to try and bloster the team so that they will do even better in the CL.

IMO They're on the right track.

To tell me "they won Ligue 1 so they did good" is not a very good argument, Celtic and Rangers win each year their league, is this Scottish league a good championship ??
Lyon is really alone in this championship, I mean, they have a CL level, I can't deny that (not a CL winner level, just a current CL level, a team able to pass the first round each year), but all other teams in France don't have at least an UEFA Cup level, they have good cycles in the year sometimes (Bordeaux and Marseille impressed at some moments, Lille too), but they're not able to play as good all year-long.

When there will be a real fight for French championship, I'll give credit to Lyon, not before ... so maybe next year, because I think this championship is going to improve for 2008-2009.

Oh and with Aulas you can't know, if Chelsea comes with a 80M € bid for Benzema, this guy won't be a Lyon player anymore in the ten seconds following the offer ...

Personally, I'm disappointed we didn't sign Lloris. We keep signing these somewhat crappy free or cheap players or hang on to keepers who are performing poorly. Kalac? Dida? Storari? Coppolla? Abbiati is OK I guess, but given his history it's time to move on.
Actually, Dida is the main player I want to leave. I want him to leave bad. I never liked him even when he performed decently, but the past couple years it's been bad, real bad. Now he gets injured by riding the pine. You go girl!

From the looks of it, we hardly have any money. We sold Gila, Oliviera and Grimi and have raised 25-30 million euros. Along with that our budget for this year would be another 20-25 million euros. Yet we are still finding it hard to sign players players in the position we need -- WB and ST.

Next year, we will be playing in Uefa Cup so I don't think its reasonable to splash money on a GK for a year, especially since we have Kalac and Abbiati, who are pretty good. If we are successful next year we will be able to sign a new GK. Also, I am very confident that next year another GK like Lloris, Gomez, Boruc and Amelia will be available in the market.

You're in France...nearer to the pulse of what's going on with French Football so you're probably in a better position to comment than myself, and you're points are well stated taken.

I think we can manage with Kalac and Abiatti for the coming year. There are other positions which we need to fill.

I don't think so. Let's see Kalac performance last season. All of his match came with x-1 (2-1,3-1,4-1 ......) NO CLEANSHEET!!!!!

Well, we can buy some defenders to make our defense stronger. But, If the goalie is not good, no matter how good our defenders are, another clubs will concede us so many goals...

I don't know why people don't like Abbiati, he always did well when he had his chance and he made a good year when we loaned him in Juventus ... each club where he was loaned wanted to keep him (at least, there was rumours).

Anyway, if the Cech rumour is true (I don't think, probably just a rumour to allow Cech to negociate a better contract, as well as Evra in MU), I would be happy to welcome him !! lol

Thanks Mr. Anonymous, so you taught me a new expression to use lol ...

yes.. but you have to remember he made many important saves who made us still be able to competed with Viola to get the 4th spot. but anyway i agree with you. Kalac was amazing but somehow i need to be more comfort with someone who really CLASS (Kalac in my opinion still havent reach that level yet, need to prove more). someone like Cech :D

Because he did badly when called upon for some games before he was loaned out to juve?

That's the only games i can recalled him not playing well in.

Abbiati was one of my favourite player before our coach decided to place the faith in Dida instead of him and since then he has never been as great as he was. Man, do i remember his saves. He is simply the man to beat when in a 1 to 1 situation, still remember his save against martins in the 2002/03 UCL semi against inter. That is the Abbiati i know in the past.

Abbitati is good, but we messed him up. we didn't sell him instead we loaned him out year after year to any club that wanted him, I think that's pretty annoying for a player so I don't know wether he would want to stay with us. I mean when we were preforming great results we didn't want him with us. We clearly chose for Dida and we did preform well in the past now when we face a difficult season we want to use him...
Milan showed a great lack of respect towards the person and goalie Abbiati.
If he really dedicates him for the milan cause I believe he could be our no1 keeper but it's also a possibilty he'dd prefered to be loaned out again or to be sold.

I don't mind Abbiati. But I'd prefer someone world class. Or an up and coming keeper with the potential to become world class. Abbiati doesn't fit that description in my book.

I'd even prefer Ochoa from America. Young and has world class potential although I don't think he had the the best year of years.

His team didn't have a great season, but he saved them from many goals, and has helped them (pretty much carried them) to the semifinals of Copa Libertadores... he'd be great, the only problem is that he doesn't have a EU passport... but then again, with Serginho and Cafu' leaving, he could be acquired... just won't happen this year, we have more keepers than we can remember.

Had Abbiati not gotten hurt in the '02 CL qualifier against Slovan Liberec, it might've changed the course of history. But after Dida replaced him, he was soon en fuego and therefore it was near impossible for Abbiati to reclaim his spot.

No way in hell should he return now, though. Let him go back to Juve.

Rumor I heard was that Dida refused to go elsewhere (and accept a lower paycheck) unless Milan made up the paycheck difference.

So, basically, he's going to collect a fat paycheck and (hopefully) laze out and ride the pine. (and probably get injured from that again)

I never liked Dida, and it's gotten worse over time. We need to sign a new keeper and send Dida down to the reserves. Man I can't stand this guy.

You're probably right. I wish we could move Dida on, so we could sign a new keeper. I am bummed we lost out on Lloris.

Also, since Abbiati wants to stay (or at least not go to Palermo), I guess he is OK being a backup? I can't see Milan mgmt starting him given the history even though he's done well in the past. How long would he accept the bench role?
I do believe Galliani when he said he wouldn't buy a new keeper unless one was sold and I don't like the Dida-Abbiati-Kalac selection.

Jeff
01-06-2008, 22:23
Ya Amelia would be great, but I think one of the things holding MIlan back is to disrupt the atmosphere within the dressing room.

Dida's situation is tricky; he is a brailian, which I presume that he has connectino with the brazilian gangs, which Milan doesn't want to fool around with, never. I think that maybe the problem. Kalac, Abbiati are easy to deal with. If they don't like what's going on, they can go.

But with Dida, things are a bit different.

Perhaps, just perhaps, Dida can re-catch his old forms?

True. He's becoming more known for that than his GKing abilities. Aldo Spinelli basically hates his guts after they engaged in a pretty public spat last season.

Ochoa has had a great season, you can watch him tomorrow in the Copa Libertadores semifinal with America against LDUQ (Quito)... he's like 22 years old, starter in Mexico NT already, has played 2 or 3 Libertadores Cup by now... tall and slim...

as I mentioned, only problem could be that he doesn't have a EU passport, but in my eyes, he would be a very good investment.

Milan need a world class keeper, we can't waste time tracking down young fresh keepers, we should just invest in an already proven world class keeper and look for a fresh pair of legs to put in net during the season because to be honest theres a big gap between there experience and we need to be consistant this season if we want the scudetto , we cant risk it with a young keeper, then again its a better long term investement and a goal keeper is a goal keeper i suppose, if he's good experience doesn't make the big difference, although its still something to consider, all im saying is id much rather prefer Buffon then let's say Amelia so to speak.

That was one game. Abbiati made mistakes, but I do not feel he is accustomed to the game in Spain. And not only that, Atletico made a number of blunders throughout the season... they were lucky to get CL qualification. And part of that seem more like poor marking by Atletico defenders.

At any rate, you fail to mention that out of the numerous other games that Abbiati played, he kept clean sheets...

I don't think we should sign a young second keeper. We should sign a (young) n° 1 keeper. The ideal situation imho is that we have a great goalie 25-32 years old, (Some cases older or younger that doesn't matter). An old experienced second keeper +33 years old and a promising 3 keeper 17-20 years old. This way hierarchy is pretty clear, the third keeper can still learn from the older keepers. The second keeper preferably someone who has a lot of games under his belt that is reliable if needed but understands he is second choice. And a first that is simply the best keeper of the squad.
Our current situation is very bad we have 5 keepers (Fiori retired if I'm not wrong?) (stoari, abbiati, dida, Coppolla (what's his situation anyway) and Kalac). The hierarchy is very unclear what imho is very bad.
Management can talk tis threw but I think the only way all of them will be statified is that if Abbiati is our number one, Kalac 2.
I don't see room for Dida him with us... Why, he is still a big name so will he be satisfied with a place on the bench? secondly it's pretty weird that our reserve keeper earns more than our first so that would mean we have to pay our 'new n°1' more money aswel.
Stoari could stay as our third but I don't see the point to be honest, but I didn't understand why we signed him in the first place. Same for Coppolla.
But I think well end up with Abbiati, Kalac Stoari and probably Dida coz I don't think he wants to leave. imho it's a far from ideal situation.

anyway Lloris said why he didn't chose Milan.
According to him Milan allready had 6 goalies and there for Milan couldn't offred him a first spot. http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/jun23g.html

First of all I don't get the six keeper issue.
Fiori, storari, abbiati, dida, Coppolla, Kalac.
Fiori retired, Coppolla won't stay, management lost confidence in Dida so he won't be our n°1, and abbiati only got back here since our n°1 place is vacant and according to BMW taylor Storari stays with cagliari. So if he joined us that would mean he would compete with a 36 year old Kalac that spend most of his career as an understudy or with smaller teams.
I respect his choice but I really doubt that was the main factor even in Lyon he will face stiff competition for the gloves and imho the battle for Milan n°1 could easly be won.
