So I'm finally going to Italy (saving Milano for a time when the football season is in full effect!

Since Norway didn't quality for the European Championship this time either I'm gonna be cheering for Italy so I'll be in Rome from the semifinals to the finale is done, hopefully celebrating the EC victory with the italians :p283:

Anyways, I was hoping someone might have some tips on what to do, where to go except the usual recommendations from tourist sites.

Oh, and if anyone know of good places there to score old movies or independent italian movies then let me know :)

Any bar, club, disco, place to see the football matches etc is very welcomed :)

Grazie

I will give you just a few tips here and there: i recommend the Trastevere quarter by night..it's full of restaurants, bars, and people gather spontaneously in Piazza Trilussa, just close to a bridge (can't remember the name).
Some of the most famous restaurants are Il Baffetto (Pizzeria). You will recognise them for the 1 h long queue outside.

There are many clubs. I don't know when you will be there, but the Roman nightlife is ceaseless. Rome is better enjoyed open air, though.

For the horror fans there's Dario Argento's shop a block far from the Vatican. Check online to get the address or ask me if you have problems.

In Rome you can do whatever you want: generally i would recommend a walk, a visit, then get back to hostel to refresh (weather will be around 35 degrees in end of June) and get out for a nice dinner.

Megascreens for major internation competitions are likely to be at Circo Massimo, in Rome's centre.

Enjoy it, it's a once in a lifetime visit. You can return and enjoy it every time more, but the first visit is the best. I'm seriously considering to move there in first person, and once i finish my studies i will consider it.

Mind that visiting Rome is something that requires 4-5 days just to scratch the surface of Roman life. My tips are just a starter, but i could fill 20-30 pages of MM.

Oh i forgot to mention, ill be arriving June 25th and going home June 30th so I got a few days to check it out. Specifically going on these dates to get the semifinales and finale while im there :)

Yeah, the Profondo Rosso store I'm all over as a dario argento and italian horror cinema fan in general :)

So megascreens regardless if it's Italy playing or not? Wow.

By your "Going to Gøteborg" post I should expect a lack of birds down there huh hehe.

Thanks for the tips!

:D Glad you enjoyed it.
Tell us a few stories.

I'm sure you found the Capital climate very fresh in the last days :sun:

I'm not sure if Milano will match Rome, if not for football related experiences.

Fresh? It was hotter than hell! :)

But the gelato was awesome, amazing ice cream in Italy. Never tasted anything like it!
Same with the food really, not expensive, big portions and all excellent!

The "facts" about italians not being very good in English was bull****. Perfectly easy to get around with just english talk, although I did notice that some atleast appreaciated my efforts to use italian.

I met americans every night, they where mostly students, and I had a blast drinking with them. Even though they always left so early and frankly cant handle alot of liquor. I met an awesome american named Jeff that where half-italian and half-american and he was a Rossoneri! So we had alot to talk about :)

One thing I didn't really understand is that there are people giving away newspapers for free at metros and such. I tried to let them know that I cannot read italian so a newspaper is not useful to me, but I always ended up giving up and just taking the paper instead of trying to explain. Much faster :)
I asked one guy that was giving out newspapers down at Termini (biggest metro point) about directions to the next place I was going and he and his friend hunted down ANYONE around the place to ask and find out and they even came and followed me on the metro to the place! Amazing!

Rome was very safe at nighttime (in my opinion). There weren't any fights or anything like that where i walked. Not any hookers either actually. And not alot of beggers in the city when you think of the size of it.

The italians are good drinkers, they drink for the right reasons and they know when to stop. They also like dancing alot it seems.
Oh, and there is good beer in italy, I think one is called Petroni or something.

I didn't know tv shows and movies where dubbed in Italy from other languages. Funny to see MacGyver in italian.

I met and talked with Luigi Cozzi for about 15 minutes. He is the co-owner and the one who runs Profondo Rosso (a store/museum for Dario Argento). That was a big highlight for me who love italian cinema.

I don't really care if Milano don't have the same type of historical stuff to match Rome (which frankly had more than I could possibly see in one trip). I just HAVE to see Milano and see Milan play :) And I'm sure I'll have just as great trip there as in Rome :)
