I will be there early october :) (with my sister) Do you live in the hippie or gay neighboorhood? :D I heard it can be pretty cold there that time of the year, not cold like back home, but quite chilly.

Hmmm, I was just in LA for a wedding. I live in Oakland - Born & raised. I suppose I can't call myself a "rossonero" anymore as I hardly pay attention and I hate Ronaldinho, but I still love watching Milan, Maldini will always be my football legend, and yeah, stilll LOVE talking about foot, just don't have the time to be online as much.

Wouldn't mind hitting up a pub though, me loves drinking!

Love Milan but it's just that my Heart is ALWAYS WITH MEXICO and so when Arsenal signed my boy Vela, I could not turn my head away I must now SUPPORT THEM THROUGH THE GOOD AND THE BAD. I've betrayed Milan but only cuz my heart is ALWAYS with Mexico (speaking of, I'm sure you've noticed there are quite a few of us "mexicans" around here in CA, GEEZ....) :mex: aha j/k we ROCK! :mex:

October is the only month it's sunny and we have "typical California" weather. Its usually around 70 F (mid-20s C--if I remember my metric measurement). I live in the boring part of town, which is just over the hill from the gay neighborhood and a short walk from the hippie neighborhood. In general, we rarely see the sun (fog), are near the Swedish-American Hall and have quite a few blondes walking around, so Swedes would probably feel right at home.

I did check up your location "twin peaks" on googlemaps after that post. Seems to be a good location, maybe even overlooking the city? since you say "we" I suppose you live with someone now? (maybe better to ask in PM:D) Now tell me if you have two free sofas so we can stay over before I go and hug some reedwoods... if it only was possible. to hug a reedwood I mean.

Sounds good about the weather. Since we possibly come from Las Vegas it wouldn't feel to good to have to put on the Milan cap.

ps. do you grow any maruijana in the backyard?
ps2. they actually found some Maruijana growing in my city. The papers digged up a rasta-man for the pictures.

True, end-September - October is the best and the only time SF has nice weather. Mark Twain wrote something like "The coldest winter I've had was the summer in San Francisco".
I live 50 miles south of the city in Santa Clara County, a.k.a. as Silicon Valley. = the place where Si is grown instead of marijuana. (not really:)

It is 35+C very often here and the temperature can be as much as 15-20 C warmer than in SF city.
Where are you going to hug the trees? in Santa Cruz Mountains? here there are plenty of nice places to go to - "Castle Rock" park, one next to Felton - forgot the name (looked it up "Henry Cowell" state park):
http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=546
also "Big Basin Redwoods SP:
http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=540

Here you have much more:
http://www.parks.ca.gov/parkindex/region_info.asp?regiontab=0&id=5

If you want to explore the shoreline -
Point Reyes National seashore :bright:
but I think the national parks fee is usd20, while the state parks charge 5usd.

Enjoy!

Me sister is having a party tomorrow and they're picking up some fresh oysters from Point Reyes. DEEELICIOUS!!! I haven't been to any of those parks you mentioned above, tho my favorite is Yosemite National Park, A MUST if you're sightseeing in California. So beautiful, serene and relaxing. I absolutely love it! Alright ya tree huggers, have some fun!

Hey RIO, I would absolutely love to hang out around the Swedish-American hall!!! Boy, do I love blondes... :1d31:

Thanks Jimmy for the welcome back! I WISH I could get a hold of Marija, but the poor girl is incredibly busy. I will try to post more often as well, but I haven't been able to watch as much football, so I feel clueless at the moment. Gaaaggghhhh life's a ***** innit? There just isn't enough time to do everyting!!!

Ukr. I have tried to check up on parks, because there are plenty. Was thinking about stopping by on Yosemite and Sequoia on the way to SF. After SF we planned to drive down the coast and may stay on some places. time permitting i will give me a day at one of the coastal redwood parks, although I read the best was further in the north...

Still, I read that "big basin" was one of the better ones and it is almost on the way.

Nah, it's just my sister who lives there.
Muir Woods has some big ass trees and its not that far away, but true Big Basin has the best (supposedly, for I'm not a tree connoseur, even though my dad's a gardener).
Gee, it must have been hard to find a rasta guy in Lulea (my map shows it up where the reindeer live with Santa). They might have flew him in from Kingston just to pin it on him...

Easier than you may think Heather. For instance, the two guys I mostly hang out with are from Sri Lanka and Burundi. You have to jump 20+ years back to not find non-vikings. ;) Still, they probably found him at the university.

Muir woods I heard is like the city folk team park when it comes to the big trees. On the good side the facilities are probably good, on the bad side I suspect it is quite crowded.

If you have plenty of time you might want to stop by the Death Valley on your way to Yosemite. "Joshua Tree" park and the death valley are among must-see's in California, as are Yosemite and lake Tahoe.

P.S. CA weather is great, i can tell you now from soggy NY state.

I have this newfound interest in hiking and seeing those parks in California I could easily spend all our 22 days in them! Currently checking out Yosemite.

I will consider Lake Tahoe, about death valley I heard mixed reviews.

Really, California + Las Vegas is such a big scope travel location that you always want to put in some more days in it. but I am already crushing my sisters budget. ;)

Interesting would be to know how long it takes to drive the car between some places. Like LV - SF. SF up 'til Oregon border. SF - LA by the coastal highway. stops excluded.

Hell, I would love any tips on things to do and places to visit if you are so inclined.

RIO

Driving from las Vegas takes quite some time, probably all day and then some. Plus, LV is the pit of the Earth as far as I'm concerned. 110 degrees and a bunch of tourists from Iowa City smoking and looking for hookers and a free buffet, not my idea of a good time.
Driving from SF to Oregon also takes forever. In my experience, you will get to Eureka and think it should just be a little bit longer until you get to Grants Pass (unfortunately the place in So. Oregon my aunt lives), but no...it's like three more hours to go!

Did they have to smoke?

Seems otherwise I will scrap any plans of going further north. Since we planned to stop by some parks on the way to SF we will stay over somewhere on the way. I suppose a day of driving in total is about as I expected, will probably be a bit longer with the sidetrips.
