CL game in two days, and no thread yet? Time's must be really tough for us Milanistas these days...but nevertheless Forza Milan.
Should we rest Nesta? Should we play R80 or Seedorf? Inzaghi or Huntelaar? How about Abate? Which DM should sit this game out?
My formation would be:
---------------------------- STORARI ----------------------------
ABATE --------- NESTA --------------- ONYEWU ---- ZAMBROTTA
--------- FLAMINI -------- PIRLO --------- SEEDORF (Janku) --
---------------------------- R80 ----------------------------------
----------- THE LEGEND ------------------- PATO --------------
but after seeing Leo's decisions for the starting 11 this season so far, I expect to be disappointed.
Coz I guess no one is looking forward to any Milan match these days...

Has Berlu given any indication of his starting 11?
That is who will play.
Oh, and do we play tomorrow or Wednesday?
We need to rest Nesta, and focus on the league on the weekend...the UCL is a luxury we cannot afford.

-----------------Storari----------------
-Antonini-Nesta-Oneywu-Zambrotta-
----Abate---Flamini---Janks-----
----------------Pirlo----------------
---------Pato---Huntelaar------
There has to be continuity in the squad. Rotation is excelent but not when we play like sh!t. Leo has been working on the problems and has tried to remove them......(ex. janku - out, abate - tried in, dinho as a playmaker - dinho then as a second striker - Dinho out, Seedorf in - Seedorf out, Oddo in - Oddo out...etc) And that's good. I think it's good what he's been trying to do. But now it's time that he finds that one line up that'll take us to the winter and find some continuation and THEN implement the rotation in order to keep the players fresh.
What I'm trying to say is.....he let Dinho play as a second striker against Udinese in the end and again against Bari. He needs to play him there again. Give him some time and some games at that position. This is just as an example because Hitmanq just mentioned what Leo might change for Wednesday and it happened to be Dinho/Seedorf. The same goes for Pato, Huntelaar or Abate for example.
To make this more clear......we are playing like crap and the confidence of the players is extremely low. It has to be, it's so obvious. So to give them a start (and for example they don't do so well in it) and then remove them for the line up the very next matchday will kill their confidence even more.
We need some continuity in the line up. We don't have the luxury to rotate right now. The problems have been recognized and worked on.....now it's time to work!!!
If I was Leo I would start with this against Zurich:
--------------Storari-------------
Abate - Nesta - Onyewu/Kala - Zambrotta/Janku
-----Flamini - Pirlo - Gattuso-----
------------Seedorf-------------
------Pato ---------Ronaldinho---
The reason why I want this line up is because I want some continuity. Whether we like it or not Ronaldinho at THIS TIME IMO is our best second striker if we want to use him as that. And also as we discussed in many threads in the past few days....Pato needs to stay close to goal and he'll score a bunch. He is not a second striker and has dissapointed when played as one. Maybe in a different group of players he'll do great in that role....but in this squad that's not happening.
To move on to 'the legend' as hitmanq said......I know he is made for these nights and if he plays he'll 'probably' score :coffee: but I really want to see what kind of partnership we can have between the two Brazilians if we keep them both very close to the opponent's goal. Inzaghi can make an appearance later on in the game....it shouldn't be a problem.
In any case....it's just so difficult to choose a line-up now simiply because we see different performances from our players every game. Life is rough right now but we'll make it through these tough times. :3band:
Forza Milan!

IMagine we lose this game, which is likely as Pirlo, Nesta, Seedorf will all be playing their 4th game in 10 days.
I think we should rest Nesta.. but I just can't trust our back-line without either him or Thiago Silva..
I hope we can all smile again after the game. Forza Milan
Nesta definitely needs a rest because he's back from a long stop and has been playing a match every 3-4 days and we certainly cannot afford to lose him for an injury and yet i'm not sure we cann afford not playing him in any match (especially with Silva's absence)...but we can surely rest Pirlo & Zambrotta & play Dinho & especially Huntelaar for a FULL match and Abate in a midfield role...i know we are in no form or mental condition to rotate but i still think it is better than exhasuting the very few players that are playing well...
----------------Storari---------------
Oddo----Favalli----Kaladze----Antonini
----Abate----Flamini----Jankulovski---
--------------Ronaldinho-------------
---------Huntelaar-----Pato----------

Inter behind against Ruben Kazan :O
MILANELLO - Here are the first declarations made by coach Leonardo and Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini ahead of the match against Zurich, during this afternoon's press conference at Milanello:
LEONARDO:
On the moment: "We've had a season of highs and lows, against Zurich it will be an important match. Now there's the Champions League, it's an important match and we have to put in practice what we discuss. In the Champions League there's not need for much change, we need what our basic formation is."
On the solutions to the problems: "It's true that playing successive games isn't easy, we are 48 hours away from a game and 24 hours before another. We have to find solutions to face the next match without lingering in the past. Now there's the Champions League, it's an important match and we have to put in practice what we discuss.
I'm not worried, a coach is always under discussion, it's impossible for there not to be discussion. For me it's the least important thing.
The team's issue is general, it isn't physical, it's not true that we didn't run against Bari. We are a team built to play and to hurt, when we struggle to create attacking chances we suffer, we are looking for some alternatives for the system.
Our moves have to be faster, we have to get the ball further forward, if we manage to play in the opposition's half we create more. Against Bari that was the idea, but after ten minutes Bari found space and their playing style caused us problems."
On the playing system: "Certainties come from results, after Siena and Marseille we had many certainties. You can't just think about revolutionising things all the time. It's not a question of changing the playing style, because the players we have in the squad are suited to the 4-3-1-2, then during the match it's possible to look for alternatives. Alternatives are necessary, especially when things aren't going well. We are thinking about it, we're thinking about everything."
MASSIMO AMBROSINI
On the old guard: "Complaints are always caused by results, it's normal that when things don't go well, they are about the age of the players and the amount of time they've been here, but this for us is a motivation, we don't feel old, we don't feel arrived, we already showed it a few times this season. They said the same things about Juve a few years ago, and now they are doing very well. Ten years ago, important players of ours were severely criticised but then won everything."
MILAN-ZURIGO: I CONVOCATI ROSSONERI
29/09/2009 18.10.00
MILANELLO - Questi i 19 convocati di Leonardo in vista di Milan-Zurigo:
Dida, Storari, Antonini, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Nesta, Onyewu, Oddo, Zambrotta, Abate, Ambrosini, Flamini, Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf, Huntelaar, Inzaghi, Pato, Ronaldinho.
Giocatori indisponibili: Abbiati, Thiago Silva, Borriello, Di Gennaro.
acmilan.com
I hope we can rest Nesta tomorrow, but that would mean playing Onyewu...uggh such a predicament. Maybe we can play him tomorrow and rest him when Thiago is fit. I'm sure Pippo will start along with Pato in attack with Clarence behind. Pirlo, Flamini and Gattuso as always. Not sure if Leo will go with Abate at RB after he got roasted on so many occasions against Bari but Oddo isn't really much better.
All in all I just hope for the best tomorrow. A win would really give us good standing in the quest for qualification.

With the only thing consistent about this Milan team being its inconsistency, whats next in this series?... W_L_D_W_W_L_D_?
I think it will be a classic CL formation for us:
--------------Storari-----------
-Oddo---Nesta--Kaladze-Jankulovski-
--------------Pirlo--------
----Gattuso------Flamini------
-----------Seedorf-----
-------Inzaghi---Pato---
:dontkn: I dont know, we have 13,14 players capable of playing close to decent football. Bench: Dinho, Huntelaar, Ambro, Zambro, Abate... poor.:1avs:
BUT, lets win it and we can go to Madrid and pray then :)

Inter behind against Ruben Kazan :O
Inter barely survived ...
How could Russia's international Semak hit a post from 3 yards out?!!!
Inter was clearly outperformed. Looked like Tatars' motivation was through the roof with Inter's couldn't be seen anywhere.
Inter didn't win a Euro game for 7 games already?
I'm watchin Fiorentina - Liverpool (2-0 HT) on Setanta.......and I am fuming at this retarted comentator. THIS is the reason why I hate the Premiership and expecially the British media.
Fiorentina is totally ripping Liverpool in pieces. They are making them look like a C-class team. Liverpool can barely string 5 passes together and are constantly on their back foot. They have no answer to Viola's work rate, passing and movement. They are totally outplayed. And to me it's not a surprize at all. Fiorentina is one of Italy's best teams right now and on their day they can outplay anyone.
HOWEVER....this comentator (idiot).....constantly says how he's in disbeleif of how Liverpool is getting outplayed by Fiorentina. Then when Viola scores the second goal he says - "Fiorentina is flying high. Look at them, they can't believe it themselves.......etc. Then goes on to say Jovetic gets lucky with the second goal......and so on."
Then towards the end of the game when Fiorentina continued to just complitely dominate the game even though they were 2-0 up.......the sh!tbag goes on to say - "It's unbelieavable. Fiorentina is outplaying Liverpool making themselves look like they are the PREMIER LEAGUE side in this game!"
Such disrespect from the English media. It makes me sick how arrogant these people have become.
Inter are purposely playing badly in Europe so the co-efficient for Italy goes down. They know the only hope of Milan qualifying is 4th spot.

I know what you mean, Iv had to put up with years of bad commentary
BUT
It is unbelievable, the premiership is so strong now and dimwitts like him think Milan are the best thing in Italy and if Miln are this bad then the rest of the league must have really dipped. Whether you like it or not, if not already it will get to the point where English teams rarely lose in Europe anymore. It wont be unbelievable if the scousers come back.

Great victory for Fiorentina tonight against Liverpool, 2-0 and was clearly the better team during the game, to Jovetic goals, no bad. I'm very happy about this to be honost, it's important for Italian football, because all of the sudden it doesn't look to unlikely that Fiorentina can qualify, at least if they can beat Debrecen twice.
Btw, Inter sucks without Sneijder, without him they're the same old Inter just without Ibrahimovic. I honostly wanted them to win today, just because Italian football really needs it at the moment, but it's just so hard not to be happy when Inter plays poorly.
edit: I think English teams are slowly starting a recession after their five years on the top. If you look at the summer transfers the Premier League lost a couple of their best players, without really adding anybody. No big transfers from France or something like that, so perhaps the English teams are heading the wrong way.
Christian, where others arent spending there is Spurs and more importantly Man City ready to take over from them.

Nef, I have to agree with your lineup. We need continuity. We've had like, 4-5 different attacking lineups so far this season, and I think even in a poor performance against Bari, Ronaldinho did offer something different.
One of our biggest problems is being able to pose an attacking threat from players outside of our strikers and/or trequartista. That means that Gattuso has to be dropped for someone else, so does Ambro.
If I was Leo, remembering that we're at San Siro, I'd play:
-----------Storari
Abate--Nesta--Kala---Zambro
---Flamini--Pirlo---Janku
---------Seedorf
---Pato---------Ronaldinho
Antonini to come on for Janku, push Abate to the right midfield, Antonini the RB and Flamini to play on the left. If we are chasing for a goal, take out Janku and put in Huntelaar or Pippo and play like:
-------Storari
------Nesta--Kaladze--Zambro
Abate
------Flamini
--------------Pirlo
----Seedorf-----Dinho
--------Pato-------Hunt/Pippo
I really hope we see at least Dinho and Pato up top. Though, I'm sure it will be Pato/Pippo supported by Seedorf with a midfield of Flamini/Ambro, Gattuso, and Pirlo while Oddo will start over Abate at RB. I'd love to be wrong.
well english media people live in their own reality, but that is such a typical behavour from them, that they ve become redicilous..dont forget they snobbed world cups and ch.l. when they first begun, just because they thought they were the best by far,but even till now they ve won only one..
anyway fiorentina were awsome today, pradelli is a gr8 coach, despite so many difficulties and departures these years, fio are a solid team with personality and clear orientation on the field..
ps i wish we could get jovetic,we need a "jovetic" so bad these days..

which channel were you on? Luckily I watched the sentana channel on sopcast,I didn't have this feeling at all as the commentator didn't have much to comment...:v46: Viola are totally solid in defence and sharp in counter-attack. They killed the game off with their better control of the ball( I mean those fundamental ball control drills under pressure). It seemed Reds had no idea how to play without Alonson in the midfield like us playing without Kaka:angf:

The Reds were cocky and thought they can just go to Italy and score goals like they are doing in EPL.
To be honest, I think Pool is one of those Giant Killer's teams, as they have all the players to play counter attack. But whenever they face a team that plays the same tactics as them, they often struggle.

I am kind of happy that Barcelona is on top now, and I also hope Real will dominate. I've had enough of the English bull crap already like 2 years ago.
Hopefully they will be put into place this season.
Yes, Fiorentina really played well. Jovetic is a star, and I am happy that we were linked with him, and he is yet to extend.... Anyway, this one performance will inflate his asking price considerably....
Anyway, if Abate can retain his RB role, and Flamini returns to the midfield (the fowards had little supply last match, and Flamini has more creative skill than Rino or Ambro) AND we maintain a level headed attitude, we should win....
Sorry I haven't posted in ages, I have been busy....:5ok:

Yes, when Italian or Spanish teams dominate, little is said, but as soon as Manchester United get on top in particular, the pride and cockiness begins....I especially hate Man Untd fans.

-----------------Storari----------------
-Antonini-Nesta-Oneywu-Zambrotta-
----Abate---Flamini---Janks-----
----------------Pirlo----------------
---------Pato---Huntelaar------
Line up looks good. Maybe Seedorf instead of Pirlo. And Pippo can start or come in for one striker same with r80.
If our palyers cannot outplay Zurich and create normal actions and chances then the taes need to be watched carefully and some palyers need to take their punishment for this comical presentation of football we are showing. Above all Dinho!
Those who show that they cannt run and play top football anymore need to be sold. If we just take a look at Zambro, he has lost 20% of his power in last few montsh. How is that possible I dont know!
On the lineup: We need 2 classic CF's, AND Dinho. I'd try it and I think we can bet Zurich normally and assure ourselves with 6 pts before we get humiliated in Santiago Bernabeu.
---Flamini-Nesta-Kaladze-Zambrotta-
---------------Pirlo----------
-----Gattuso-----Seedorf----
--------Pato-----Dinho----
------------.Pippo-----
ALSO, after 25 min if I saw Dinho is not trying I'd take him off without waiting anything. Players need to realise the game is 90min of fight. Our players look like they are enjoying sunday walk ( some of them ).
--------------------------------------------------
On English wiew of football: it is quite obvious that people that invented the game actually stayed in 50's with their football "philosophy". The comments by tv and media in there are not just stupid but arogant and insultive for the rest of Europe ( who has MORE sucsess then English football ).
I oftenly see CL games of italian clubs on RAI, and the difference between RAI and English commentator is so hughe that you ask yourself what sport do they comment when they talk about football in EPL.
The reason Zambro deteriorates is that he didn't work hard during training.
Why?
Because he, just like us, is trying to figure out why Oddo's cross can be that bad.
j/k lol.

I hope your classic CF KK will not choke if he starts, because you will hear me telling you over and over to at least give a chance to Gooch.
Kaladze is a better tplayer then "Gooch". Onyewu is not a player for AC Milan and he is our 6th Cb behind NEsta, Thiago, Bonera, Kaladze and FAVALLI. We probably bought him coz of the commercial money of US tour or something like that. He was free and can be sold. That is it.
I am sorry, maybe he'll get some chances and he'll play ok football. But you cant really expact that a player of his calibre becomes an important Milan player.

Actually I'm willing to see how this will turn out, playing Abate and Janku as fullbacks. Sure enough, both players have crap defending abilities, but they are much better going forward. Now if we can just force Zurich to defend for the whole game, this might just pay off as they'd provide the extra width in attacks.
Forza Milan.

too bad it was not Pato.
On the brighter side, at least Kala did not score an own goal
Woah, we nearly conceded a second!
I really hate to say this, but our midfield is stagnant.... no one is running into the box.
They pass to Pippo, who tries to tee up someone outside the box when everyone is converging onto him... and NO ONE IS THERE! They're all standing around in midfield!
Every time they run into our half, they have two players running for the ball. Two lucky bounces just fell their way, and if their strikers were quicker on the half turn, we could have conceded yet again...... :P

Are we the away side?
Warro, is that a rhetorical question?
Seriously, when our opponents are harrying our players into conceding the ball in our OWN half, in our OWN stadium, and all our players can do is kick the ball out of our OWN 18 yard box, you know exactly how cr@p we're playing.
The only bright side I can see in this is that Marseilles are managing to hold Madrid to a draw, because come the 5th CL game, we could potentially be in 4th place in the group.

hahaha......no Warro. But we might as well be! Nowdays the San Siro doesn't mean sh!t anymore. People don't even turn out to see the games let alone create an atmosphere...........and rightfully so. This team is playing with their d!cks in their hands. The midfield is so stagnant that we can't move the ball around at all. I'll go to my local park and see more ball movement then I see in our f*kin midfield. What embarassment. What crap. F Pirlo and Seedorf together. They can stay in the locker room for all I care. And what's the point of playing a guy that absolutely offers nothing NOTHING in the offensive end (Ambrosini). Maybe I'm saying all this out of frustration but how could I not be frustrated.
And...........Please don't blame ONLY Kaladze for the goal There is so much wrong there it is simply unbeliavable to count the ammount of mistakes that were made. First Seedorf looses the ball stupidly in the middle which resulted in the Zurich possesion. Then he has to track back for Janku who is nowhere to be found. Then Kaladze looses his man on the corner............and then Pirlo decides that he can just leave the post because....welll because he is Pirlo and he can do whatever the F he wants. You don't leave the post untill the ball is headed out. You don't LEAVE the post AS SOON AS the corner is taken. Fukin ridiculous.
I'm not even going to go to the offensive end. There is no movement. No exchanging of positions. No one is capable of dribbling past on player. The only player looking bright up there is Abate who whipped in a few good crosses. But he hasn't even been able to go up there for the last 15 mins or so because we cant move the ball arount to get him up there. We cant even keep the ball. We've successfully managed to play like a Serie C side for the first 45 mins.

I genuinely believe we are putting too many players on the attack, which has made a mess of the clear oppurtunity. IF Flamini can sit back firmly to strengthen our defence and stop the counter attack, we can have plenty of chances to convert into goals. Like Viola did last night, they just held the ball and prepared for the counter attack chance. We need more possession and more patience, despite the home fans booing all the time.

You forget this, we're suppose to do better than the German teams in Europe, or come next year, and the years after that, we'll be fighting for 3rd place just to get into CL again. If we get kicked out at the first hurdle, we can say goodbye to CL for quite a long time afterwards, because I don't see this team (without huge investments) getting third spot in the next half decade at least.

This is embarassing!!! This is ridiculous. This is simply un-watchable. This group of players is simply done. They can't do anything right anymore.
We had chances in the second half. We could have scores a couple but our strikers would rather wack-off tonight then actually play football. Pippo can sometimes give you joy.....but can sometimes frustrate the sh!t out of you. He could have easily scored a couple today. Pato also had a wide open look put in by Ronaldinho yet he managed to miss the whole goal. Abate when put in a more advanced position failed miserably while I can't even explain the Onyewu substitution myself. Was he suposed to be our CF for the last 10 mins or so. If that was the case then WERE THE F WERE THE CROSSES?!?!?!? It's pointless.

Please, this 'I hope Milan lose' is really annoying. People were saying 'If we get humiliated in the friendlies then we'll buy new players', we lost 4-1 to Bayern, twice to Inter and didn't win a single game except against Varese. People were saying 'I hope we lose to Inter cause then Berlusconi will invest', well we lost 4-0 and we didn't invest. It doesn't matter how much we lose, it doesn't change anything.
Ofcourse you can think what you want, I just think it's sick to hope that Milan loses.
Also this game sucked... People can say, 'it's Dinho's fault', 'it's Seedorf's fault', 'it's Kaladze's fault', as much they want, fact is that our problems are much deeper than just a couple of players. Only thing that can save us is if Berlusconi tells his children to screw themselfs and spent a 100M euro's on Milan.
every game you try to blame someone new..
the matter of fact is that half of the team is utter ****, and we will not win anything until we get them replaced. there is no team play, no chemistry whatsoever.

I totally agree with u Housin very good post.Berlu sold Kaka for 60 mil. and he didn't do anything with them and wants good results.
Now on to Real where we can be beaten with our own club (Kaka that is). Balance your Books for a good old fashioned Beating. Unlike Inter, Madrid will run the score up on us. besides spalletti (who i'm not in love with anyway) are there any guus hiddink type coaches out there that know what they're doing and could help this team technically?
if we were looking for a young coach we should have hired van basten or we should have tried to lure an up and coming coach like gasperini from genoa. but now i think we need an experienced coach who can beat teams tactically because there is little to no talent left in this team.
any suggestions?

i agree with you that these players are past their prime, have forgotten how to score...but when the players are this bad an inexperienced coach will only amplify the problems. a good experienced coach will be able to steal some points on tactics alone. not to mention there is absolutely no creativity with Leo. we look horrible in the attacking third, there is no movement, chemistry and we have scored in only 3 of our 8 games so far. we obviously cant change the entire team tomorrow but we can change the coach and a change needs to be made. so change the coach and make the necessary transfers this january and in the summer

okay guys long post and please give me your opinions?
it's real obvious we cant score goals if our life depended on it we have to start play 442 or 4231, leonardo's formation is too open and you need speed on the flanks to make it work, he wants a xmas tree formation thats what it is, but gattuso and seedorf arent 25-29 anymore everybody has to realize flamini is a defensive midfielder he does not score goals,PIRLO HAS TO STOP TAKING FREE KICKS!, jankulovski sad to say was pushing up abate sad sad the only bright spot in our team tonight, i dont want to fire leonardo but the hole is starting to get too big, bring in mancini or spaletti it's too much we have to salvage something! its real simple 2 attacking midfielders i dont care bring in a 18 yr old,van der vaart, bale rafinha, its real simple if the trequartista cant produce the whole formation collapses and we should seriously consider playing a 451 a midfield of 5and pato uptop like hiddink ran, lol if it makes anybody feel better we're still 2 in group D based on goal differential and now we have a massive david vs goliath match aganst madrid in madrid

I'm actually glad the match was not televised in the USA. I have seen the "highlights" and it looks like more than 1/2 of the fans made like the Fox Soccer Channel programmers and avoided this one too.
Poor Leo, he looks to be not long for his job. Too bad the deluded old satyr who is most responsible for the embarrassing state of this "team of champions" is still going to be in charge no matter what idiot he gets to "take over" the "management".
You, who have been here as long as I, know I am not one of the pessimistic fans who sees doom and tragedy behind every door, but right now AC Milan's recent history is way too much like that of the Oakland Raiders for my taste. Meh.

I agree. The players are crap, that's obvious, but even with these players you can't loose against Zurich at home get outplayed by Bari at home.
The humiliation against Inter is also mainly Leonardo's fault. He was a sacrifice lamb as simple as that. You cannot hire a serious coach and tell him "Well, there's no money for transfers, this is what you have" and ask him to make a third team in Serie A without it's best player a champion team. Leonardo was hungry, he saw an opportunity and he thought why not.
With formation like this you cannot beat a defending team at home. There are two strikers without any kind of support. It's so ****ing clear. Like it was clear you cannot play two defensive midfielders behind Ronaldinho because he'll be cut out, and that's exactly what happened against Inter. Either Seedorf or Pirlo must play upper in midfield so Ronny could have someone to combine with. I really don't know why Leonardo insists on Pirlo as a deep-lying, because that way we HAVE to have two DMs, because Gattuso cannot cover both Pirlo and Seedorf, who lost their legs, and Ronny simply cannot play in that formation.
Leonardo must leave that idea of deep-lying playmaker because we don't have a team for that system anymore. Flamini must play in front of defense, Gattuso on the right and Pirlo/Seedorf on the left with Ronny as AM. That way Gattuso and Flamini could cover around, and Flamini can pass the ball quicky to Pirlo or the side backs. That way we would have link between AM and the rest of the midfield and also the link between AM and attack which Seedorf cannot provide.
But I'm afraid that Leonardo isn't the man for the job. We should bring in Spaletti. He's the only world-class coach who's free. We need someone who can get the best of his players. Spaletti made (for example) Perrotta looking great, then Brighi and so on. He really can make a system which takes the best from each player.

All,
I'm shocked that you guys are even surprised with these results. The pre-season said it all. Fundamentally this team is deficient...yet we have leaders who were so short-sighted in the past that they didn't think these days would come. A new coach won't change the performance of the team. Spalletti..e.t.c.....Keep Leonardo & Tassoti!!!! No new coach can rescue this ship. Like one stupid man once said " You go to war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had". We have our current squad for 4 months...nothing will change that, we just have to hope this ship starts to turn with Leo at the helm.

Pathetic. Leonardo is the sacrifical lamb, no doubt. The real culprits are Berlusconi for his insanity and Galliani for his cowardice. Players can't play forever. Our players (esp in midfield where they have to be fresh, dynamic, and creative) are clearly past their prime. Why must they wait until we get embarrased to even contemplate doing something?
AC Milan from where to where. From a club of legends, a club of quality, a winning club, to a joke within a mere 2 years. All these guys had to do was keep Kaka and buy 3 quality players and we would have been a force. Berlusconi, get out!

hes at galatasaray now i believe^
what about marco van basten? no right?
why him? he sucked as dutch national team coach, and even more as ajax coach. he even resigned there and said he couldnt make the team better and that it was best for the team he quit. it looked like he would never coach a team again becouse he knew he isnt capable of doing it. it looked kinda sad.

What about Silvio Berlusconi? He seems to be a good coach? Know the team well and have tactical knowledge. World class leader. He will ask every single players to stand on the table and motivate them. That way we don't have to hire an expensive coach and can some money to balance the book.
By the way, if Leonardo get sacked, will he return to his old director position or will he be gone completely?

Hi Ho Young, so sorry to hear that..
I think they've realised by now already... Unless they're retarded.
Berlu said "We have a squad full of champions", while hoping his champions get younger everyday like Benjamin Bratton. Galliani proclaimed Abate as the new Cafu after one so-so performance.
So, in my book they ARE retarded :pchate:

A couple of weeks ago Marco said that Milan badly needed some rejuvenation, and it's not Leo's fault if this team performs like this. That's why I don't think he will be our next coach if Leo is shown the door
I'm really at a loss...this is just too painful to witness. Please Silvio, for the love of all things holy in this life, sell the club.

I'm sorry for your loss.
i can't be bothered to comment right now. Maybe later.
has anybody noticed that without silva and nesta together our defence sucks, last three matches we have really missed thiago silva...
please get Jovetic, hernanes and some left back...
Sorry guys but it is coach whether you like it or not, I have seen many "crap" teams turning great thanks to coach, look at what Blazevic did with Bosnia or Antic to my national squad , or Hiddink where ever he came.
The problem is there are only few great coaches in the world and we let one go away last year, now we need to either pay big money or build our own which is very hard, especially when he can not fully use his authority with the players as they are almost his age.
what the **** happend i didn't see the game.
I just returned home i just sow the score and i am really schoked!!!!!!!
I know that we are not in a good form. but loosing from a team called zurich is very embarrasing.
Sorry but this team is finished, really finished.
welcome to my world.

every body talks about the defense, what about our attack? we've scored 5 goals in 8 matches this season and all 5 have come in 3 matches! at least we have 3 clean sheets in the league.

Well, there's not much to be said about the match that's not been said already. We were poor, there's little to no structure to our attacks and with a defence looking exposed. We looked clueless, resorting to the long ball tactic which many nations, often Italy and often members our squad, have criticised the English for. When we reach those stages, we're desperate.
We started the game as we always do, holding plenty of possession but looking weak going forward. We conceded as we often do, a set piece where a marker has lost his man and we've conceded. We reacted as we always do, with a mad panic of no result and absoloutely no end product to show for it. There wasn't much new in this match, it's pretty much the same drivel we've seen for a majority of this season.
Regarding players, I would say Storari looked good on the whole with some good saves. Nesta was again the rock in the poor defence. Abate is growing into the right back role and it's a shame he's one of few players who really looks to make an effort. Kaladze was solid for a couple of games, but yesterday he was horrible. Lost his man for the goal and left tons of space to be exploited. Janku was pretty much the same, ineffective going forward bar the chance he set up for Pippo in the first half and in defence he's so bad it's untrue. So the defence was its usual self.
The midfield was just as poor. Flamini struggled to impose himself on the game (something I fear is becoming more consistent now), Ambro adds nothing going forward despite his one decent effort and Pirlo was terrible. Added little when attacking, defensively easily beat many times and wandered away from his post for the goal, which is inexcusible.
The attack was the same stagnant, static mess as always. Struggling for service and even when it gets it clearly lacking the confidence to finish. Seedorf added pretty much nothing to the game and has been looking the same player he was last season since Marseille. Pippo had a few sitters which I simply can't believe he missed. Pato meanwhile was too far out in the first half to make an impact, whilst in the second in the 4-4-2 he was closer to goal and looked more dangerous. I hope Leo takes note from this.
As for the subs, Dinho did as he always does when subbed on. He adds a little enthusiasm and creativity but ultimately doesn't lift the team. Zambro actually played as well as he has done this season and was unlucky not to score at the end. Onyewu meanwhile, well...I criticised his signing during the summer quite extensively and I think yesterday he showed it was justified. He was better on the right wing than at the back.
Leo's post match comments are all correct. Every department has it's faults right now. The team is engineered in a way that it's been designed to attack (I'd argue moreso due to how weak we are at the back rather than how good we're meant to be up front) and the squad is limited to essentially play in the way it is. However, given the stagnation in midfield and attack, it's true that the defence is right now our strongest area (almost solely due to Nesta). There's not much one can do to turn things around.
It's a shame Leo is now getting so much of the blame for all the problems. We saw last year and the year before that when Kaka was out, our results dropped a great deal under Carlo. Therefore, losing Kaka was a huge blow, even moreso as we replaced him with a finished player like Dinho. Even so, Leo has improved a couple of things in the side. We're pressing better than we did under Carlo in the past few years and we're dominating possession better. The current situation isn't because of Leo, it's because we didn't invest when we needed to and relied too heavily on players who really shouldn't be playing an important part in the side, or even the squad.
What's more disheartening is we're linked to Mariga now and Jovetic is starting to build his reputation with important performances. Both players are ones I felt we should have got back in the summer with a view to the future and would have been really useful to us in our current state. Dzeko is also starting to hit form for Wolfsburg, and was a player everyone wanted but we also missed out on. Then you look at the state of our fullbacks, and it's really disheartening to think I've been moaning about them for at least 3 years now and yet we're still in the same state.
If I was Leo I would move to the 4-4-2 that I suggested in the banter thread. We're playing better when we switch to it during games and I think it's important the side returns to basics right now.
after last night's match, i don't beleive there should be any more doubt that:
- Storari is the best goalkeeper we have in our squad
- Jankulovski should never play as left back ever again
- Abate has great potential but don't play him out of position; the guy is not a right back, don't make another Jankulovski out of him
- Onyewu should never play for a team like Milan
- Nesta is a god...thank God we have him back
- Seedorf is simply not good enough: we cannot count on a player who can perform 1 match out of 10
- Pato has every right to be frustrated, i'm just praying he sticks around till we get a decent team around him
- in a team that cannot create chances playing Inzaghi is pure gambling: we give up an 11th footballer on the pitch who can work and help for 90 minutes to someone who cannot play football or help in any way but who probably is the best in snatching goals simply by positioning, quick reflexes, or pure luck (yesterday the gamble did not pay-off, against Marseille it did) and we are in no position to afford that
- we are the slowest team in the world: Pato and Abate aside, the rest can never outsprint any decent footballer in any decent team in Europe.
- 8 is the number of players above 30 that started the match yesterday...
All this is not something concluded from last night's match but there can never be a better (aka worst) moment to say it again :s
@milan1983 I can not agree more about the deal of blaming leonardo, he has done some good things but nobody will acknowledge them, we should invest more in players.
If the dressing room is revolting, replace the damned over payed players with milan primavera team players and let leonardo be the coach.
I am willing to wait for 3 years for any kind of trophy but in the mean time I want to see beautiful football.

There was a moment when Abate out-sprinted one or two Zurich players in the second half before sending in a cross into the penalty area. I was actually stunned, mainly because I haven't seen anyone else other than Pato who tried to out-sprint the opponent players. Damn, we're definitely the slowest team in the CL by far.
Before the start of the season, many doubt that Storari doesn't have what it takes to play for Milan. I'd be bold here, Storari with the current form, deserved a much better teammates.
Rumours of Leonardo's replacement already starting to surface.. Its a pity. What a sham the owner runs!
Goal.com's list of suitable candidates is headed by Gullit.. If his punditry is anything like his coaching then I say get him!

Gullit???
Any talk of replacement should be because he resigns on his own, he should not get pushed or fired. Unless somehow a Capello quality coach is available this team is no higher than 4th at the very most optimistic.

Gullit's a smart guy (despite not always having the most likeable personality) but until now as a coach he's been a flop.

At least to my memory, there is not one great coach that was a great ATTK player.
I think that had to do with the fact that those players were so great in terms of technique, eye for goal....that they demanded their attk players to have the same skills as them. Which often then not aint the case. Thus leading them not to be a good coach.
While great def. players and mid fielders, rely more on their team play and organisations thus usually can translate that into the team they coach/manage

One might argue Johan Cruyff.

The goal.com list consist either of old or younger unproven coach's. Gullit never made anything as a coach/manager, Van Basten was dreadful wherever he went... I don't remember any striker that was a good coach. Someone mentioned Cruyff he was nothing, he bought the best team in the world and was humiliated by Capello in CL finals.
Anyway, it seems that Spaletti cannot be our coach because he was a coach of other Serie A team this season. It's a shame, because he's the only valuable coach available around. Knowing this, Leonardo should stay. We need a coach that could make our crappy team a good one, and neither of mentioned in that article is capable of doing that.

Yes and no, as he did have players very similar to his standard at Barcelona.
But then again, he was good until he ran into Milan.
What I am trying to say is that all great attk players have great vision and great individual skills, due to that, when they coach they expect players to do the things they can execute what he thinks is capable(his standards), but most often the players just can't.
Where as a def. player, defender and midfielder are using base positioning, organisation and tacticial side of the game, which is a lot easier for players to understand and work toward.

Mancini is also available and he has outsmarted Spalletti in their personal head to head duels almost every time, not to mention that he won every Serie A title possible at his time at Inter. He was also great with a mediocre Lazio team. There also is Van Basten (who isn't a quality coach, I'll agree with you on that), and there is Rijkaard who is currently coaching - but you never know what would one give up to return to the spotlight.
I would stay with Leonardo if it was up to me. I think he's good but he just has a terrible, terrible squad.
no,no hitman my man!!! Spaletti is MUCH better coach then Mancini trust me on this one. What Im afreaid is that Leo will not be a scout anymore and he is a BRILLIANT asset of Milan's MGT! That would be a huge loss to us ( Serginho, Pato, Thiago, Kaka', Cissokho ( never bought ) etc. )
I think we should give Leo a chance until atleast half way through the season. Replacing him now would mean further sruting and loss of morale. If the Board is not willing to invest, just like in this recent tranfer window, then it really doesn't matter what kind of coach you have!

To dump Leo at this time would not be a smart move. He has been handed the tradition of Milan but without a roster to continue that tradition. The squad must be strengthened & this cannot happen if Berlusconi doesn't fork out some coin.
The team is still of high quality, to me it seems that one or two players who can lift the tempo by showing a little enthusiasm are required, players who are mature but still posses a high work rate. (Ronaldinho is not one of them-let him go)
Abate should be given game time. Look what it's done for Gourcuff. Look what it did for Gerard.
My targets: Giuseppe Rossi, Pasquale Foggia, Daniele De Rossi.

Henry....Sheva...Kaka...Aquilani.... the list goes on. Its not that impossible for Roma to sell De Rossi...the impossible thing is for Milan to sign someone of that quality at that age.
Very true. When was the last time we made a real superstar signing? Can't remember anyone since we splashed out big on Rui Costa. After that, it was all has-beens bought on the cheap---Rivaldo for instance, or youngsters who ended up making it big--kaka, pato...
Would be nice to see another real glamour signing with our fans greeting the player on the balcony of that hotel in Milano....ah the good old days.

Spending money on players that are established in other leagues is a risk. Seria a is tactically & physically difficult for players to adapt to. Rivaldo & Dinho are a waste of that money. Why is it impossible for a player of De Rossi's calibre to come to our club? Why is it possible for Inter & Juve to trade high quality players?
I wasn't aware that supporting this club meant that you had to have experimental surgery to have your balls removed. Show some; lay out a big enough offer & land the player/s you need.
