I'll write out the options in more detail later, but here's a summary for the unseeded teams.
Milan can face: Barcelona, Man U, Chelsea, Tottenham, Schalke, Bayern, Shakhtar
4/7 favourable draws
Inter can face the same, minus Tottenham add Real Madrid.
2/7 favourable draws
Roma can face same teams as us, minus Bayern plus Real
3/7 favourable draws
Arsenal are second seed, and can only face: Barca, Bayern, Real, Schalke...Arsenal have always had the easiest draws and I bet out of these 4 they will get Schalke.
1/4 favourable draw
Valencia can face Bayern, Chelsea, Tottenham, Schalke, Shakhtar
3/5 favourable draws
Fc Copenhagen can only hope to play Shakhtar or Schalke
2/7 favourable draws
Lyon can only hope for Shakhtar
1/7 favourable draw
Marseille can hope for Shakhtar or Schalke
2/7 favourable draws
No brainer. Mr. Platini will always throw Italians to the English. MU, Chelsea and Tottenham. MU we have faced too many times, I'd say Chelsea 70% and Tottenham 30%. Carletto will return to San Siro.

isn't this supposed to be random??? :ilol:
i know it probably is fixed, like most things in life...
anyways
id want to face schalke, shakhtar, or chelsea as they're not in form...
Forza :dcool:
We will have Chelsea or Man United, and UEFA will change its rule so that Barcelona can play FC Copenhagen again. ;)

Based on our performances in Europe this season no opponents will be easy. But I hope to avoid Barcelona of course, they would smash us to pieces on their current form.
Agreed with Elmago. I thought it's supposed to be a random draw, held in front of representatives from all clubs involved.
About our next opponent, well, we met Kaka in group phase last season and his team this year so why not have another reunion with Carletto or Hunter? Many things can change between now and mid February but neither team is pretty impressive in their respective domestic league.
Any team will hate to meet Barca, that goes without saying. While on the other hand Copenhagen will be our match made in heaven but it's too good to be true. Other team that I'd prefer is Munchen. They are awful in defense, and we have good records against them.
Form can change until February, ours too, Barca's too.
Tottenham might be the easiest, because they are further into uncharted territory for them.

nothing is easy now that Tiago is out for a longer period.
Manchester United. No two ways about it. I don't know about you guys, but I can't live with this 7-2 defeat to the hands of Man Utd [Thanks to Leonardo]. Time to really get the revenge.
If not Man Utd, the Barcelona. Just face it, if any team can beat them, Its AC Milan in the slow & Italian way. Plus AC Milan shouldn't be scared of Barce, it should be the other way around :r11:
Third choice would be Tottenhem. I just hope AC Milan avoids Schalke & Bayern Munich :devs:
It's unfamiliar territory to Tottenham, but Tottenham is unfamiliar territory to Milan. No revenge for now please, revenge can be sweeter when it's a final. I'd favor German teams, they are not Dortmund.

The game is in Feb., a lot can change till then with injuries and forms. If the games will be play next week or so, then Chelsea is probably the best team to play against right now as they are struggling. But lets say Milan is against Barca in Feb, by then Messi, Xavi and Pugol might all be injured.

So we can concentrate on winning the Scudetto?
Milan - Barcelona (Ibra vs Guardiola)
Inter - Real Madrid (Inter/Benitez vs Mourinho)
Roma vs Manchester U (revenge from some years ago)
Don't know why, but I feel 2/3 of this schedule is going to happen !! :D

I feel the same way too. A certain Frenchman:hammer: (not you, Geo :grinser:) seems to hate all Italian teams but one dirty Jube.
The ideal scenario would be GOOD vs BAD. So here is what the Ro16 should really look like:
Good vs Bad
AC Milan vs Manchester United :510:
Bayern Munich vs Arsenal :de3:
Lyon vs Tottenham
Valencia vs Marseille
Chelsea vs Copenhagen
Schalke04 vs Real Madrid

No, I am for AC
Its such a shame that ACM fans are so scared of Barcelona. If any team can stop Barcelona, its the 3DM-ACM team. Gattuso, Ambro, Flamini & Prince will not allow Xavi & Iniesta to play & Ibrahimovic will score the winning goal  Plus has any one observed the decline in Puyol's game recently? Barcelona is not unbeatable :5dito:

I got your point, but I will be happier if we meet Schalke. We will kill one German chance to get their coefficients increased.

The draw is in 2 hours.... can't wait...
Chelsea, Man U, Spurs, Barca, Munich are the tougher ones, then there's Schalke and Shakhtar which would be nice to have...
In Milan's history, every time they faced Bayern Munich in the knock out phase and beat them, they went on to win the cup....I'm hoping for a Roma-Schalke, Milan-Munich, so we can kill off the Germans and stop them from extending that huge gap they have over us this year.
However it does seem that most Milanista believe we are going to get draw against Barca. Quite frankly, in my opinion, they are the only ones I would like to avoid. Even if we do get them, I don't think it's the end of the world. Despite Milan's poor record in Europe, we have been improving a great deal and been winning games while playing ugly, maybe we can hit top gear at February... I just hope Max Allegri's inexperience will hurt us as it has earlier during the year....
Can also someone confirm FOR SURE whether Cassano could play or not?
As far as I know - if a player plays in the Champions League qualifiers he is not allowed to play for any other team in the CL. However, I do not know what happens in the case the case of Cassano, who after playing in the CL went on to play in the Europa League with Samp. I know that a CL team can sign only one player from the Europa League in mid-season, but I am not sure how it works in Cassano's case.

not bad....but we have to watch out for their speed with Lennon & Bale...
if we close these 2 down, we should be safe

The good thing is that Milan have often bought players who have done well against them. So if Bale plays well...
So we PLAY TOTTNHAM in the last 16...not a bad tie :D
Not bad at all :p017:
They're pretty prolific in scoring but have a tendency to concede almost just as many. Not that we have good records in the group stage but I'm confident that we can beat them.

Tottenham...not bad but its not going to be easy
No easy games in CL top 16. Hopefully Spurs' lack of experience in matches like these will haunt them. It could definitely have been a worse draw, at least on paper...
The good thing is that Milan have often bought players who have done well against them. So if Bale plays well...
I'd rather we thrash him and pass on him ...
Bale could be a bigger test for Abate than Ronaldo was because he's in the form of his life & he'll stick to that side all match long (although i saw him switch positions with Lennon in the Chelsea match which i did not understand why)...if Abate survives that as well, i think he would have gone a looong way in proving that he deserves to be Milan's 1st choice RB.
2 things that are a huge plus for us: Redknapp & Gomes
I will take what it is. :) By February, hopefully Hotspurs has turned into some mediocre coldspurs. :D
Not as confident as a lot of you, namely because I actually watched the match Merda played against them. Bale will be hard as heck to beat out. The kid is not as weak in the legs as Ronaldo is, and Lennon, Modric and Defoe are no picnic either. This team will play like theres nothing to lose because quite litterally, they really don't. The best I can hope for are some suspensions or injuries to their players because this tie, in my opinion, has banana skin written all over it... Just like Arsenal a couple years back...
The only positive I can think of are Gomez, Gallas and the other centre back tend to get into each others way more often than not. Their midfield play pressuring football and their forewards run 90 minutes. Its definitely gonna be tough.
Ugh.... And for a few minutes there, I even forgot they have Van Der Vaart, the one player I had hoped we'd sign last mercato... The man who literally took them to the next level from just 'a good club'.
I"m not that confident about the game ... A bit like Arsenal few years ago, I think it's typically the kind of team that will cause us a lot of problems because of the pace of their best players.
Anyway, like it was mentionned, and it's their main difference with the Arsenal we played against some years ago, they have absolutely no experience in CL, so:
- they do like most of the inexperienced teams managing to qualify, they simply lose their game, don't manage to play at their full potential and are out of the competition against us
- they are the surprising and lucky team that there is each season in CL and we should be very careful
We'll have to wait, but I know we will be at 100% at this moment of the year as the games in CL will be played when our tough schedule will start again !!
19/02/10: Chievo - Milan
22/02/10: CL
27/02/10: Milan - Napoli
06/03/10: Juventus - Milan
08-09/03/10: Second Leg CL ?
13/03/10: Milan - Bari

20/03/10: Palermo - Milan
03/04/10: Milan - Inter

but think of it this way, are we better than Inter this season? to me yes and Inter scored 5 past Tottenham in the group stages, chances are if they are coughing up goals so easily we can get a few, we got 2 past Mou's Madrid in San siro with their defence we should be able to get 2 past Gomes and Tottenhams defence! surely?
CL:
Milan - Tottenham
Roma - Shaktar Donetsk
Inter - Bayern Munich
Europa League:
Napoli - Villareal (and the winner of this game will play against Bayer Leverkusen or Metalist Karkov)

If it's one thing Abate has, it's PACE. In that aspect, he can handle the speed of Bale. However, Bale is an excellent player, in form, and their whole team is in Form. Won't be an easy game, but I am excited for this fixture. It won't lack for goals, that's for sure...:5schal:

The problem is, we only have one Abate. He can't take on Bale, Lennon, and to some extent Defoe all at the same time. Thiago may mark out Defoe, but I highly doubt we have anyone else on the team that is fast enough to pick up Lennon... Bale is the biggest threat, but by no means the only one.

Bale was great against Inter and has played well...BUT!! The talk of him is over blown as usual when a player in England has a few good games suddenly he is the best player in the world. He was great agains Inter and had 3 or 4 other really good games but hasnt been consistently great. His technique isnt great at all he is staoppable and Lennon while fast is a bad player when it comes to using the brain , we've seen him for England alot if not spurs. This is a game that if we dont collapse and play well not even awesome we will win.
They leak alot of goals alot and there defence is bad by CL last 16 standards , Ibra Pato Robinho Pirlo even Boateng will be very very hard for Tottenham to hold.Hutton is average as is Akotto Gallas makes alot of mistakes even if King is back he cant run anymore Dawson good nothing more and Kaboul is full of mistakes also. Our attack is a hell of alot better than theres and our defence if we have Abate Nesta Silva and an in form Luca we will win.
Actually, while I'm not too confident, I think we will beat them tactically ... We will have to be careful when they will have moments of attack (with suddenly many players coming at the same time), but more generally, to win this game, we will have to take the possession, and press them directly in midfield (with Nesta and Antonini holding behind, Thiago and Abate can press in midfield as they will be able to run and come back if they get passed by their opponent).
Modric and VdV are weak physically, so Ambrosini and one between Flamini and Gattuso should be able to stop them by playing a tough game on them.
Anyway, we'll see what happens with injuries, but VdV and Modric are not known as players managing to keep being fit for a whole season ...
EDIT: And Jay is right, their defence is awful, that gives me more confidence ... Ibrahimovic will laugh a lot against Gallas, Kaboul and other defenders they have (Assou Ekoto isn't a very good defender, and he tends to always want to push forward, so he will leave space on their left side, what Robinho or Pato will like).

We will have more possession and they will have to play our game...and honestly against Inter come on Inter are a shambles under Benitez that guy got incredibly lucky against us to win the CL.And they whole time he managed Liverpool they always mentioned his great Valencia side that that got to 2 CL finals...that was hector coupe he did win the league though.
Gomes isnt solid either since his move.Ibra Pato Binho maybe Cassano (wait he's cup tied is he ??) will run over there defence and once we are reasonably concentrated in defence we will win.
Damn .... I wanted a bigger fish. But still it would be nice to kill off an EPL team. Then Barca or Manchester in next round. But one thing for sure, If Robben & Ribbery are injury free, then it means Inter are out of UCL in next round :510:

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is relishing the upcoming Champions League tie against AC Milan.
“It’s a great draw. Whoever you draw is going to be tough,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
“It’s an exciting game to play, it’s a game we look forward to, AC Milan have won the trophy seven or eight times.
“They have a fantastic record, they are the top team in Italy leading the league with great players.
“It’s something we look forward to. It’s a great challenge and opportunity. They have some real quality fantastic players. It’s an exciting game.
“I said before I wouldn’t mind playing them because you want to play the top teams in the world, it’s what people want to see so it’s a great chance to bring them to White Hart Lane.”
to all the people saying how to stop this and that, try to think of how we are going to approach the game and don't think of individuals, we are playing as a team of late, we are moving as a unit and we are not scared of anyone, we are just humble but not scared.

Spurs fan in peace, reading with interest the views of AC milan fans and dont get me wrong you have every rite to feel confident being the much more experienced side in this competition and the fact your playing quiet well in Serie A but i believe many of you are really under estimating us and i feel it will come back to bite you rite in the ***. First off if you actually follow the prem closely you will find spurs have not had our 1st choice defence for 3 months and have gone through the whole champions league group without our proper defence. Our defence is not as bad as you lot think especially now we are getting the likes of Dawson back to full fitness. Inter mite not be as good under Rafa but they are still european champions and although we lost 4-3 at the san siro ( down to 10 men most the game) we absoloutely ripped them to shreads at white hart lane. Spurs could beat anyone at White hart lane and unless you get a convinving win at the san siro you will find it extremely hard to beat us at the lane. To the guy that said " our attack is miles better than theres".... I think you will find thats false. We are the leading scorers in the champions league along with Arsenal so i'm not sure how you work that out. Gareth Bale is hyped up because he is a superb player and for the people who think he's only been good because of a handful of games know nothing.... Bale has been excellent since halfway through last season and he was putting in quality performances against the likes of chelsea and arsenal. I believe our attack will be to quick for your aeging defence hence why i believe spurs will suprise you and go through as winners. COYS!!
^ Welcome to the forum. Lots of time between now and February. I hope for good matches....and a Milan win of course :)
Welcome to MM Nasescoba 1985
I watched most Spurs and Arsenal league games this season because I love an attacking, free-flowing football. I remember reading in football365 that Arsenal main objective every game is to score one more than they donate. In a way, I can almost say the same thing about Spurs. You guys conceeded quite a lot, but no one can rightly write you off because you have won several times already this season after being behind, and that always fascinates a neutral fan like me.

heya guys, new to the thread, been on many Spurs ones, hope for some great debates.
AC lead Serie A by 6 points (36 points from 16 games). They look v top-heavy ie laden with talent up front! Ibra is on fire at the moment. In midfield Pirlo is brilliant on his day. Gattuso is ancient but must be still doing an effective job. KPBoateng is apprently playing well in the hole behind the strikers. He's a competitive fella and will no doubt relish facing us.
Defence is where our best hope lies. Zambrotta(33), Nesta(34) and Ambrosini(33) are all well on but v experienced campaigners. Our wingers will no doubt be told to run at them at every opportunity!
I think if we have ouir full compliment to choose from it will be a v well balanced contest and with game 2 at the Lane I think we can do it. Both defences will have serious questions asked of them. We may need Ledley for this one! Interested in your thoughts.

In Ibra we trust. Honestly, it is too far away to even predict what will happen. It will be interesting if they are playing now. As I really can't see any team stopping the trio of Ibra, Robinho and Boetang. The midfield duo of Ambro and Gattuso are playing as good as any DMs on the world. Then u have Pirlo, who is starting to show his strengths instead of weaknesses game in and game out. Then there is Abbiatti who is playing like Buffon.
Then u have Spurs who are in great spirit and in forms at the moment. VDV, Modric and Bale are playing great, Defoe, And Lennon ain't push over either.
I think it will be a tough game for both teams. Since Spurs struggle against teams who owns possession like Milan, while Milan lacks the speed to play against a quick team.

Welcome on board, and I think it's better to play against Tottenham than against Manchester, because at least, we don't have to read hateful messages of "fans" of MU who don't know anything about football but Rooney or C.Ronaldo (few years back in the past).
Anyway, I put some sentences in bold:
- I don't think anyone here under-estimates your team, and personnally, I would have prefered playing against MU this season in 1/8 for example instead of Tottenham, because the way Tottenham plays is typically the way to make us struggle (well, based on the last seasons, but it's a bit different with Allegri's Milan).
- Even with the full defence, I don't think Tottenham can have an amazing defence. The fact is that Assou-Ekoto and at least one between Kaboul and Gallas will play, and they are for sure the weak parts of the defence ...
- You destroyed Inter in White Heart Lane, and as a Milan fan, I can only thank your team for this entertaining moment ... :D
- About your attack, it's true that you're among the best attacks in CL in the group stage, BUT, your team was also in a group with the worst defences of CL (Tottenham, Inter and Twente conceded 11 goals, Werder 12, that's terrible defences in 6 games !!). Benfica (3rd, 12 goals), Bursasport (4th, 16 goals), Panathinaikos (4th, 13 goals), Cluj (4th, 12 goals), Zilina (4th, 19 goals :D), Auxerre (4th, 12 goals), Partizan (4th, 13 goals) did worse than Tottenham. All these teams didn't manage to qualify, except Benfica in Europa League.
Among the qualified teams, Tottenham is the worst defence with Roma (11 goals conceded). So actually, Milan will be the first opponent of Tottenham in this CL with a real defence and a tactical game.
- Bale has been very good since the coach stopped using him as a LB and started to use him in his proper position (LM/LW), which allowed the guy to develop quite quickly.
- Your last sentence leads me to tell you that you shouldn't under-estimate our defence and midfield under Allegri ... and you should update your informations about our team !! :)
If there is no injury, we have two fast players (Abate who is 23 and Thiago Silva who is 25), a good, but not outstanding this season, LB (Antonini who is 28 or 29), and an experienced leader (Nesta, our only ageing player in defence nowadays). We also have a well used Zambrotta (Allegri tends to rest him quite often, so when he plays, he can run for 90 minutes).
All my post was to show you that even if we shouldn't be too confident (and we're not), you, as a fan of Tottenham, shouldn't be so sure you will beat easily the "ageing Milan" (which is the kind of statement that can't be done to comment our team nowadays). See you soon !!
PS: Maybe a mod should edit the title of the topic and replace [Opponent] by Tottenham ? :D

Agree with all of GeoTav's stats.
Also, Milan fans are CERTAINLY not under-estimating Tottenham. They are a very good squad this year, and it's nice to see a new team succeed in Champions League. Bale, Lennon, Pavly, Crouch, Defoe, Modric, Vdv, are very dangerous players to name a few.
Having said that, we have one of the strongest attacks in all of Europe (top 3-4) with the likes of Ibrahimovic, Robinho, Pato. I think there will certainly be a few goals....
I don't like to say much more as it's silly to debate what will happen. May the best team win, and if Milan cannot advance in this fixture then we're not where we aim to be.

LOL Geo(statman)Tav ...yeah I agree with all and Bale is great just think the Messi comparison was ridiculous.Ekotto Kaboul and Gallas are week Dawson is better Bassong on his day is handy ...Modric can go missing I think our biggest problem will be Bale Lennons pace V.D.Vaart at the Lane and Defoe , But as was pointed out Nesta is our only ageing def and I think any team in the world would still want him.Abate is as fast as Bale and real fighter has come on alot under Allegri , Rino is rejuvenated and we'll have Pato back and Flamini , our team isnt the old side that went out to the Gunners not even close ...look forward to the games cant wait .

Hi, Spurs fan in peace and although I cannot speak for all Yiddos, I think you'll find we're glad we're playing you next.
- Even with the full defence, I don't think Tottenham can have an amazing defence. The fact is that Assou-Ekoto and at least one between Kaboul and Gallas will play, and they are for sure the weak parts of the defence ...
Assou-Ekoto (BAE) - he's come a long way in the past few years. For sure he makes mistakes and, as a defender, those mistakes can be costly but we wouldn't swap him for anyone else in the Premier League at the moment. When he links up with Bale, your defence will panic :)
Kaboul is still learning but he is immense. A real powerful act.
Gallas has too much experience to be a weak link.
I'm not sure any of you realise that almost half of our team has been injured this season. Harry Redknapp likes to mention us playing "bare bones" but this time he tells the truth.
Modric is far from weak. He controls the games he plays in. You might think he doesn't provide much until he misses a game, and then you realise how much he's truly missed.
We have mixed feeling about Gomes. Great shot-stopper but sometimes forgets the rules of the game.
Don't forget Huddlestone, VDV and the rest of the full international players who play for us :)
The only team we struggle against in England is Man Utd. No one else, definitely not Arsenal as they're a bit crap. :ilol:

:ilol:
We post here if you want a look. It's one of the few websites where you can post from work. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/ArticleSearch?phrase=Tottenham%20Hotspur%20Football&contenttype=-1&articlesortby=LastPosted&show=20
So far, the few fans of Tottenham posting here have been respectful and the debate has been good ... :)
About Assou-Ekoto, what I said in the previous post (before the long one) joins what you say, the guy isn't a very good defender, but he often goes forward, which could be a problem for us if we don't have the possession, but if we manage to keep the ball in our feet, Assou-Ekoto will be fore sure a player who will be in trouble.
About Gallas, this guy is finished, and it's a French poster who says that !! :D
He is experienced for sure, but he lost it, he will be beaten physically by Ibrahimovic, and he won't be able to stop Pato or Robinho IMO. If I was Redknapp, against Milan, I would put him on the bench, but as a Milan fan, I just hope Gallas will play.
About Modric, I mentionned him and VdV as weak physically, mainly because they are both injury prone (at least, they were in the last seasons). If they are fully fit in February, then they'll be serious threats for our team. And let's be honest, when we knew VdV was to be a Real Madrid's reject, a lot of people on this forum, including myself, wanted our club to try to get him as we still lack this kind of player in our current team (would have been perfect behind our two strikers, allowing us to play Boateng in our midfield).
About Gomes, IMO, he's the perfect clone of Dida !! Physically looking like him, and also playing the same way: able to do the best saves and the worst mistakes in the same game, like Dida !!

Wassup Bruv...Gomes reminds of Dida a bit can do something then make you curse him and spill your tea on your lap.
Gallas has experience but is slow and makes bad decisions lately he is nowhere near the player he was.
Ekotto can and does most times link well with Bale , but will have his hands full with Pato or Robinho....Modric does go missing from time to time not saying he will and isnt strong physically but a threat.V.D.Vaart is a great great player..Huddlestone is an International but not a regular so isnt vastly experienced at this level...I think Defoe is great and Bale and as I said Modric and V.DVaart , Pavlyucenko a real threat aswell...
Nobody is underestamiting Spurs here , we are just playing as a team and quite well and I believe yer defence is weak as is and with Dawson and King is better but not invincible.Jenas is another that on his day can be a real dangerous player.I see alot of Spurs here the Prem is on morning noon night and the early hours...lol and who knows what will happen.I just hate this misconception that Milan are old all old it will be a fact that ye will only see 3 players over 30 and our keeper but doesnt really apply to them...hope for great games and a Grande Milan...VICTORY!! ofcorse.

The thread name is updated.
So many thing can and will change until than, I remember most of us being happy that we drew Man UTD in December because they were very poor at that moment and we were fling, but come February Manchester came to their usual best and actually kicked our ass.
What I think is that Tottenham is having a great moment, but I think they have peaked a little to early. My personal view is that this is the best they can get, don`t know If i`m being biased though.
But Bale,WDW and Modric would walk in our first eleven without any problem, so thats smth to think about, weather we should underestimate them or not. They are absolutely world beaters and they have proved it.

You know what , every single one of these Tottenham fans have been cool fair and respectful unlike another clubs...
We are well capable of beating Spurs over the 2 games, and I only think they'll beat us if we are missing players or off-form.
I think we'll try to dominate possession and use our superior 1v1 players to win the tie - Robinho, Ibra, Pato, as well as Boateng, Pirlo, Seedorf, R80, and possibly Cassano.
Sure they have some good players and have found the right system for them, but I think our system works better for us to succeed than their's does for them in this moment.
I think the outcome of the game will absolutely depend on the teams' form come February.
We will have to wait and see what's the situation with injuries and form before the game.
If both teams were in perfect form, Milan would have a slight edge imho.
we definitely need to buy some pacy defender (FB) in January. But I am still confident.

You seriously don't want to know.
But agreed, the Spurs fans so far have been respectful, and I take my hats off to them. I like my forums nice, objective and friendly, thank you very much.
The biggest disadvantage I think they have is that English teams don't get a winter break, leaving them prone to a dip in form, and injuries, in the early parts of the year. Man U last season was an exception because they had nearly their entire defense injured in the early parts of the season, only to have everyone come back and pick up form when it mattered most, whilst our defense was quite in tatters during the same period (Either no Silva, or no Nesta, and no backup as well...) and our forwards last term weren't scoring much at all (Again, Pathinho was out for one and a half of the two legs, Borri didn't make the cut).
I expect things to be different this term with our newly found depth, and our younger starting defense and more energetic midfield.
That said, much respect to Spurs, as I really don't find this an easy fixture, given they have their first 11 available and in form, come Feb. Form can change so easily, and I just hope we can stay as consistent and injury-free as we are now.
I wasn't here then...what happened ??

Ahh the good old days, I was only a reader back then...but i remember vividly those member and the stories...also KOKU the Man Utd guy gets a honorable mention.
EDIT: Since we are giving appreciation to members from other teams :D. i would like to give a special thank yout to TONY 29...the Juve guy who secretly was in love with MILAN...he was a great guy and great poster to this Forum.
I too was reading this forum on and off (mostly the latter) back then but I certainly remember Koku and Tony29. And while we're at it, a certain Karim comes to mind. Another respected member here who sadly made the wrong choice of supporting the blue half of Milan :respect:
that Koku guy was amazing. you can count on him showing up at the forum whenever ManU played us (05, 07, last season). annoying at times, but I certainly don't mind having him around. :)
Tony29 was purely a gem - I agree that he is secretly in love with Milan :D; Karim to a lesser extent, but an asset to this forum in my opinion. Also, wasn't there a Juve fan girl named "Del Piero" or something?
Hmm, now I seem like the off topic one. Without underestimating an opponent, I have no mood to show too much respect to them. No matter who advance, this duel will be history as soon as it finishes. What I really don't wanna see is last years Milan-Utd., that neither team looked alive and be able to advance to the final. It felt somewhat worse than Lacoruna & Liverpool.
maybe we should post this on a tottenham facebook page so we can get a few new bashers in here, and liven this tie up! :D
Is it just me thinking that Milan's defense has been extremely good for the past month? We have conceded... 3 goals - 2 against Ajax (which was an atrocious game) and 1 against Sampdoria.
That's pretty impressive imho.

I just felt some of you AC MIILAN fans on here were underestimating us and showing a lack of respect hence why i wrote my post on here. But in all most of you lot on here are decent and know it will be a tough game. Like i said you have every rite to be confident being the more experienced champions league side but just respect that we come a long way and we have had a superb champions league campaign even though so many people wrote us off before.... Look forward to contunue debating with you Milan fans. By the way are you where are you Milan fans from on this forum? Just be interested to know. Because obviously Milan being the huge club you are you might not all be from italy

Its just you Jeff :D
Though I agree with you, I still think the reason behind this is the change in formation or the way we play. We are seriously playing like a unit. We used to be the best in the world at some point but never played as a unit. Maybe when we go forward we are too depended on Binho and Ibra, but defensively u can not take anything from anyone. If you watch closely you`ll see that we have not allowed any team to play us or risk us let alone score against us.
And if anything went past nesta and tiago, the amazing abbiati just stopped it,and I mean penalties too :D

Hello Milan fans,
Just wanted to register here in preparation for match discussion over the coming months.
I'm really looking forward to our matches against your team. I'm planning to attend the away leg at the San Siro, so maybe I'll see a few of you there without realising it. Obviously I'm hopeful of a win, but I can't really call it either way at the moment. We'll have a much better idea of team form when February rolls around.
Just out of curiosity, who are your usual starting midfielders now? I am assuming Robinho has ousted Ronny on the left, with Pato playing on the right (when fit), but who are the usual trio in the centre now? I imagine it has changed a lot since I last watched your team.

Welcome to MM
The new system is very different from the past few seasons. It no longer a 4-3-3. Its more of an Italian formation now, which means more compactness & more unity. Its actually midfield 4 now instead of 3
Ibrahimovic Robinho/Pato
:r14:
Boateng/Seedorf
:r14: :r14: :r14:
Flamini Ambrosini Gattuso
Welcome Redrup, midfield could feature Boateng, Gatusso, Pirlo and Ambrosini. Possibly Flamini and Seedorf.

You mean like this :r11: :d33: :googly: :whie:
Ibrahimovic
Seedorf Pirlo
Flamini Ambrosini Gattuso
By the way, this 5 men midfield would be ideal to play against Barcelona :r14: :bri: :devs:
No, not all together zeekay, we don't need Seedorf and Pirlo together.
No matter who we play against we need more movement, Boateng and Robinho can do better and are needed and don't leave Ibra up high by himself.
They will keep him just for Crouch.
I thought they keep him just for the bench, not for the couch? :rotfl:See, if there was a comfortable couch before, Dida would not have hurt himself on the sideline against Parma. :rotfl::guw:

Tottenham will tear us apart if we start with the mediocrity of Abate and Antonini. You all have talked about that in great detail, so I won't go through it here.
Yesterday's game against Roma proved that this team is still average in most areas. KPB is great, but he is not Milan material. We need Flamini fit, and we need to start with a conventional formation that sees a safety-first midfield.
The only problem is that if we start with Seedorf in a playmaker role, we are in big trouble because he doesn't deserve to be on the field. This is the dilemma. A midfield of Flamini, Gattuso/Ambro, and Pirlo will be great, but I really hope we find another solution other than KPB or Seedorf in the playmaker role. Hopefully Cassano is well integrated by then.

Hasan, Spurs ain't Barcelona. After watching thhe replay of Barcelona just now, I must say that they are really World Beaters.
Spurs has one of the worst defense among the seeded teams in the second round.
As of today, unless Ibra and/Silva/Nesta are out with injuries, I would not worry one bit. As Ibra is the type of strikers that EPL defenders cant handle since they are only good at defending against the air and closing down on speedy players.

True, they are not Barcelona. However, they have pace, and that is an attribute that has caught us out in the past.
What scares me most is that apart from Inter, when it has mattered in the big games, our team has been horribly exposed.
Gabriel489
19-12-2010, 10:46
True, they got speed but they also got a weak defense and non ball winning midfield.
Also I would not take both the Juve and Roma games as ref., since they really were lucky.

We're a long way away, we have many important games until then, we will also (hopefully) have some new players @ Milan by then, but you're right, we have not done much against the top sides (Real Madrid, Juventus, Roma).. we defeated Inter 1-0 on a penalty. We drew with Napoli and Lazio. We lost and drew to Ajax. We lost at home to Ajax, Juventus, and Roma.
Yet everyone says Allegri is the second coming. Let's see how we do against Tottenham. No one wants Milan to win more than I, but this Round of 16 tie will be very, very important for Milan's season, as we must prove we can defeat a good team in an extremely important competition for us.
Forza Milan!
Like you guys said it's too early for predictions. We can't even be sure if there are going to be changes in both squads. I mean we already signed Cassano.
I agree with most of you, it's not a bad draw but still it ain't gonna be easy. Not at all.
Spurs may not be Barcelona but they have a great team. Some things i think and please feel free to disagree. We just can't afford to give Lennon and mostly Bale the space to run the ball. Gareth Bale is having a miraculous season so far, he is a proper wonderboy, just ask guys like Maicon or Ferreira who had to suffer from the Welsh these last weeks or so. On their right flank, Lennon can also trouble the opponent back in a good day.
I am not sure our backs can easily handle them.
Add the always dangerous VdV, put in there some Defoe and Crouch and Pavlyuchenko and you have a pretty decent attacking line with Modric a bit deeper trying to provide with his passing game.
Still their defense, while not useless at all, is not the best one around. Not in Premier League with a 25-22 record, not even in CL where they finished top of their table (18-11).
Bassong, Dawson and the rest of their defenders are no match for our attacking line and if Ibra and one more of the guys up front have two good nights we do have a serious chance qualifying. But i guess we also have to keep them off their familiar pace.
Anyway, i think we are in for a couple of great and thrilling matches.
Folks, please take a moment to think about this when you have the chance. All of us are in this for the decision:

I dont see Tottenham cab pose any danger except for bale who is unpredictable otherwise i should be a pretty much straight forward approach from the english team . if Gattuso gets into the groove we are in for a treat.
I think Tottenham are a young team hungry to make a splash for team that has not win anythin much since the early 60s. Question is whether this Milan can still muster it up for the European nights. Maybe a time for Seedorf to make some noise.
what is the likelihood that David Beckham will play for Tottenham?

Welcome to the club then Mr. Genius :respect:
That was 2007, and in case you forget it's 2011 now. Much water have flown under the bridge since then. Todays Seedorf deserves all the criticism he gets just as he deserves the credit for what he has done in the past. We shouldn't let the achievement in the past cloud our judgement of what's going on here and now. That's the very reason why we're letting Dinho go isn't it? Or do you think we should keep him because he won FIFA Player of the Year twice?

We bashed Seedorf like kingdom come for pretty much every game except for his period. Which before used to be those big games, but now he has become a true minute man. Talk about making this Champs league malarky difficult... first Inter and now AC - two of teh toughest games we could have faced!
It is going to be a cracking game and I think a very balanced one, with Spurs' counter-attacking credentials receiving their litmus test against Milan's defence. However, your members are a little remiss: whilst its true that we have been shipping goals of late, if deadly ledly can come back fit, he'll marshall the defence superbly, especially if he has Dawson alongside him.
My prediction? 2-1 Spurs, home and away!
Incidently, my sister and I are hopimg to get some tickets and I have found some for sale in the Terrano Blu section of the ground? Is this safe? I don't want to be sat amongst the ultras, if I can get away with it!

Seems like there will be a familiar face facing us in this game.... David Beckham has already trained with Spurs for the first time. He might be keen to prove a point after we decided not to look for his loan deal this year. His last memories at Milan were not so good as he injured himself badly and missed the World Cup with England. Good luck at Spurs David but I hope you won't have a good game against us!

Crossing abilities,a more than decent pass, kind of a Ryan Giggs dribbling, great stamina and quite a finishing for a guy who runs all over the field. Or, else, what Abate hasn't.
Of course, you are right about the 60-50 mill price tag. It's insane and if you ask me, no football player should be that expensive. I also agree that the Spurs should be more scared of us. We own the tournament for the last 25 years and we can pull an Ambro in the Netherlands every time.

'ello again,
I would be surprised if Beckham plays a single minute for us. He's here to train and sell shirts.
Since we played the last CL game, other teams have been doubling-up on Bale, kicking him and elbowing him. This has created some space for other players. How are you going to deal with him?
We're still not scared. We're happy to be in the competition at this stage. We're glad we're playing a top team like Milan. There's nothing for us to be scared about! :)
I don't care if AC Milan loses the away leg, but if AC Milan can't kill off this mediocre EPL team at the San Siro, it will be utter humiliation for Milan fans like us.

I'm sorry Pato's older brother, I can't ever understand a single word you say.
Milan is stronger than the past 3 years for sure, but still we're in a transition. I don't like our FB's against good teams. However, Abate is lightning fast, and I think he can catch him. Bonera would be chasing shadows like it was his imaginary friend.:p286:
I do honestly believe, and I hate talking before the game, I like comparing formations, but rarely try to predict what will happen, but I do believe Milan will score a lot of goals on your back line. However, Bale could burn our FB's a few times, but you still have to have Defoe beat Nesta and Thiago Silva in the air :D
I think we'll probably have Gattuso annoy Bale on the our right side (your left), and also Abate. We will prob double team him with gattuso and abate, and then have Nesta there for protection. We'll see,, should be interesting.

I'm watching Tottenham vs. Manchester United today, and I have to be honest, this is a sloppy, very typical EPL game. Manchester United normally play posession, technical football, but what happens is, when one team is playing long balls, sloppy, slide tackles every 2 seconds, it's hard to slow the game down. It's a total reckless game with all 20 men on the pitch running around like chicken's without a head.
Furthermore, David Beckham is in the crowd, and I just can't see him playing in this game. He's more fit for Serie A :D
Bale has done next to nothing, and both teams look a bit soft at the back, very Open game, but as I said, generally sloppy.
* It's Half Time, so a lot can still happen....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another fact I did not know about, EPL stadiums are generally bigger than Serie A stadiums. For instance Anfield is 110'x75' and San Siro is 105'x68'. This maybe another reason why in the EPL, the players are spread out more, and there's way more space. They look to never be compact, and this is anothe reason for the sloppiness of the game ...:yuck:
of course, i believe is a match we can win if we get our heads screwed up

Modric is good, yes. As the announcer said, you need to get more width with Lennon and Bale, and beat Man United on the wings instead of playing up the middle. Very sloppy game with little tactics...
Hopefully we'll have a few additions ready for you in 4 weeks time...:nunu:

if we carry on playing so poorly in the CL and in general for that matter we will get smoked in the first round, we need to pick the pace up again.
i think if we compare, we do have a better squad player for player. But the style of football Spurs play, quick transition, diagonal balls, is something we have found problems with all season.
Very tricky game, a victory in this tie and we could get some amazing momentum and confidence.

It was Inzaghi who scored in that match at the end... The game you are talking about is against PSV in the second leg of the semi's in 2005, where Ambro scored when it was 2-0 (and heading to extra time).

Too early to see who will start, or to do formations, but my guess is this will be our lineup in at least one of the games:
---------Ibrahimovic---------Pato------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
---------------------Robinho-----------------------
---------Pirlo--------------------Gattuso-----------
--------------------Ambrosini-----------------------
Vila---------------------------------------------Abate
--------------T. Silva-------Nesta---------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------Abbiati----------------------------
*Another option is to play T. Silva as DM, Ambrosini in Pirlo's position, and Pirlo in Robinho's position.
* Our DM (whoever it may be) will man-mark Modric while Abate and Gattuso double-team Gareth Bale
* Robinho and Pato may switch to a 4-3-3 and attack the wide positions on counter attacks to expose guys like Lennon and Bale....

We lost 3 starters (and their replacements), well now 2 as Flamini is back even if we should wait to see him for several games before saying such a thing, it's now an habit in Milan for injured players to be injured again after their come back ... :(

I agree ^^, I've see a few games by Spur since we drew them.... we should have them in our pocket if we play as compact as we did in October/November... but if we play like we did in January it will be a 50/50 game because we have really been bad (granted that we have many players out)

We had three, not two midfielders out last night. Bale, Modric, Huddlestone. You cannot class Bale as a left back, he doesn't play there any more.
Bassong and Gallas are not our first choice centre backs.
Our confidence grew last night. It was a game few of us expected to win.

vs Blackburn? few of you expected to win? really? man, you're in CL last 16 and not expecting to win against Blackburn? really?
Just like against Manchester United last year, during the first 20-45 minutes at the San Siro, AC Milan will make half a dozen chances. Now if AC Milan again fail to finish the chances in the early part of the game, then we could be in trouble. I still believe ACM could have won against Man-Utd last year if 2 of the many chances were scored in the early parts of the match.
I saw there are NT games ?! Before the CL game ?
I hate that, UEFA could make a better schedule, a NT break in January (which would have helped the best teams) would have been better than in February when serious things start ...
who will come back from injury when we play against tottenham?
I don't think we should underestimate Spurs, they have good players all round, except perhaps central defence and forwards, but still, we don't want to go in all cocky and proud and end up getting shamed like inter

Yes. Really.
We were thrashed 4-0 the game before.
We were playing away.
Injuries (I know, I can't keep using that excuse forever).
We have an equal amount of wins, loses and draws against them over the last 10 years.

It was seen as a good win. There aren't any games we see as "definite wins".
Last 16? Yeah and we're lovin' it. ;)

I will go your way by recalling to ZvonimirBoban that we didn't beat Lazio (whole team defending) and Udinese (counter attacking team) at home, as well as not beating Lecce (very average team) away ... And we're in the last 16 of the CL.
And regarding our game in Genoa, I hope and think we're going to win (Genoa is not a real team and they're in a poor form), but I'm not that confident given our last results ...
CL and the league are too different to be compared ... If the form in the league was the form showed in CL, Liverpool would never have won in 2005 and would never have been in the 2007 final (and the same can be said for us in 2007).

I find it quite funny how you are judging how the game will go on the performance against Fulham. As i'm sure your aware we finished top of our champion league group, which you failed to do. We obviously have no fear in coming to the San Siro, and ultimately we have the easier task as Spurs are the underdogs. There is a great expectation that with our injury hit defence and Milan's impressive strike force that it will be a very one sided affair.
Tottenham are a team with great strength in depth, with many technically fantastic footballers, which, I hope prove to you that history and arrogance count for nothing on the football pitch.

Boban has a good point, however I think it's fair to say EPL is currently a stronger league.
However, I hate arguing back and forth about this and that. It's silly. We will play the game and see who the better team is. I'm excited for this. Champions League and EPL/Serie A are two totally different competitions. Champions League requires more defense in a 2 leg Fixture. Experience, composure, tactics etc will matter more in a tournament. I think it's fair to say Milan is the better team on paper, for many reasons I listed above, but anything can happen in Football. We also will be recovering some players for 1st game, some more for 2nd game. Right now we're not in a good place as we have players playing out of position and also new players just bought starting. Can't agree more, Elmago! But seeing as we can't do anything before watching the game, why not talking about it :diablo::devs:
Again, I won't change my opinion. EPL is currently 'stronger' in some ways, yes I can see why people said so, but that DOES NOT make every team in EPL stronger than EVERY Serie A team. Having said that, you can conclude which are stronger (on paper), Serie A's table toppers vs ... what? 5th team in EPL trailing the leaders by 13 points? Sorry mate, even hardcore Spurs fan can't deny that Milan are stronger on paper. Sure, we will see who are really stronger after the real encounter, but until then, let's talk.

In all fairness to the Spurs fans who have been posting here, I think they have treated us with due respect. I'm all for letting the results speak for themselves anyway.
As Milan fans I would treat this match with caution (there seems to be a little too much confidence here imo). As the posted Jonathan Wilson article mentioned, Spurs could well be tactically the worst opposition we could have drawn. Ironically, they could also well be the best given Harry Redknapp's preference to focus on physical and motivational aspects of the game over tactical.

I'm not overly confident I think it could go either way .. But they have been fantastic all season and they have 3 misfiring strikers , bale can cross and cross and cross but the chances are not being converted.ofcourse he can score himself.but there is still that mentality that Milan are an old slow side not so much anymore and they can play with width but that could backfire with us playing through the middle using gaps.and patos pace he is far faster than there defenders unless bale stays with him alot which would somewhat halt his offensive game.and I do agree the spurs fans well most have been a joy compared to the united ones

Yep these 4 add so much pace, experience, creativity and movement in off lines compared to their alternatives in respective positions. Only Yepes is a valid replacement for Nesta, and only Merkel can provide the runs from mid to support the attack. Only player who got forward in Genoa match was Flamini, but he lacks composure in goal situations.
Time to teach Tottenham a lesson and remind them and their fans that Tottenham belongs to UEFA Cup, not UCL-Ro16. Nothing short of a 3-0 result is acceptable at the San Siro :5schal: :devf:
