AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini will definitely miss the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie at FC Bayern München on 21 February after failing to recover from an ankle injury.
Training hope
The 37-year-old defender has been training with his team-mates for the past three weeks, but admitted recently that his ankle was still hurting and he would only play against Bayern if 100 per cent fit.
Miami break
Milan have now decided to send him to Miami for a week with midfielder Massimo Ambrosini to assist the healing process. Coach Carlo Ancelotti explained: "We think they can recover quicker if they train in warmer weather conditions." Maldini played every group-stage game as the Rossoneri won Group E with eleven points.
