Bayern no doubt want us (1) to gain revenge for that beating we gave them and (2) because they can see that we are alot weaker than we were last year so it gives them a great chance to go through.

You're right to an extent Zlat, it is based on the historical battle that took place between the Persians and the Spartans, but the film 300 is a movie version of the graphic novel (of the same name naturally) written by the legendary Frank Millar. You may remember Frank Millar from Sin City, again it was his graphic novel that was adapted to film and will see sequels Sin City2 & Sin City3 released over the next couple of years. Naturally the effects in Sin City have heavily inspired him in 300, hence the amazing visuals this film has. Plus as it is from a graphic novel it contains alot of mythological elements like monsters and such. It will be amazing, though shouldn't be seen as anything to do with the Matrix.
