I was thinking of a voting system as well but there are times when it's so difficult to decide. e.g. When two players perform so well (or when everybody does badly) that a top 3 might be better. Also if a player comes second consistently, he might rack up enough points to be overall MVP rather than a player who gets MVP once or twice but isn't consistent.
e.g. Let's say Pirlo plays extremely well and gets 6 MvP selections out of say...15 games but lands out of the top 3 for the rest of the 15 games. Nesta on the other hand gets 3 MvP in those 15 games but places 2nd or 3rd for the rest of the games. On a voting system that just picks one player, Pirlo would be seen to be performing better than Nesta (6 votes to Nesta's 2). However a system that takes into account 2nd and 3rd place finishes will credit Nesta's consistency and he might come out on top of Pirlo at the end.
I'm having a problem figuring out how we'd collect all the user's votes and determine the man of the match and the runner ups. The idea I had in mind from the first post was to assign points to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Then when each user submits his players, I'd add up the points and divide by the total number of users to find an average. Then the players with the top 3 scores would be MvP and runners up accordingly.
