In all honesty, that is the biggest fear I have with him. I think he will be at a fairly high price after this season (I think he's second in Ligue top scorers right now). Still, he's a player I think could be useful as he's a big target man but isn't like Borriello (another reason why I dismiss Gomez right now), in that he's more closer to the style of Toni than Borriello.
I agree we need to invest strongly this summer, not necessarily by spending fortunes, but through smart deals. We have to change our transfer strategies from looking for big marketing names to seriously strengthening our squad.
As I said in the Gourcuff thread, right now I'd consider selling Dinho as he's worth a fair amount (I'm sure Man City would be interested) and we'd knock a huge salary off our wage bill and fund some of our transfers. I don't think we'll ever get the best of Dinho and if we manage to I think it will be difficult to get the best of Kaka and Pato.
Sell Dinho and we can look to get a new forward, who doesn't necessarily have to be one of the world's best (especially if we're looking to fit Gourcuff in). As a new forward shouldn't come to the same price as Dinho, we can use the leftover funds to pay for key additions in defence.
Like I said before a couple of weeks ago, sell guys wasting space in our squad like Kaladze and we can fund large parts of transfers like Santacroce (who I still dream of even if it's unrealistic). Sell Oddo and we can fund a fair portion of a deal for someone like Clichy. Another fullback solution is to try for Di Silvestri who looks very good and we can play Zambrotta at LB or even Zuniga (though he's a bigger risk). Sell Dida and we can get Marchetti. Get rid of Emerson and even possibly Ambro who may not be needed if we aim to use Janku in midfield, and get Mariga. Finally, with the loss of guys like Favalli and Maldini, we'd need one or maybe 2 additions for backup in the CB role. Bring in a decent backup like Carrozieri that won't cost a fortune and keep a guy like Favalli (or bring in Panucci maybe?) to be the very last choice in worst cases (which hopefully is never). I've not even mentioned guys like Abate coming back either.
Essentially, it's adding depth to the squad, reducing the average and increasing the quality, both in the first team and on the bench. It shouldn't cost a fortune and we can seriously look to compete.
Also, new reports are coming out about us looking at Mariga. I'm happy about this and I still think he'll be a good risk to take this summer.
