Ultimately, I think its this way:
Berlu is under unprescedented stress:
a) His wife is divorcing him, because,
b) his affairs with teenage girls/high-end prostitutes have been exposed, and
c) his kids are also pressuring him to stop "squandering" their legacy on the Milan money-pit...and
d) with the global+Italian recession still a major issue, he can't be seen to be spending "huge, Perez like funds" on the club....
So, what does he do:
He simply cuts spending (at least temporarily) reduces the wage bill (by selling Kaka, sacking Carlo) and makes a few token purchases in a bid to keep fans happy.
He has long felt that he is a master tactician, and a shrewd judge of talent, so he appoints his puppet coach (as I continue my conspiracy theory
) through whom he makes his player aquisitions, team selections and tactics, the results of which we have seen in our position in the table.
"Balancing the books" is a smoke screen, in our case and as the email above suggests, is impractical and unnecessary...
What is also surprising, in light of the ongoing crisis is that rumors of our activities on the transfer market are few and far between, which (considering he is a media magnate) could mean everything...or nothing....
Ultimately, time will tell...he brought us out of Serie B, and yet seems hell bent on taking us back.
