While at -1 and having several lost opportunities to be closer or even ahead of Mou & Co., see our last game, it feels like if we look back at august we have every reason in hte world to celebrate. Most of us were dubious about a direct CL spot, some for preliminaries and then some even spoke of relegation (exaggeration ofc) … to be in the title race was just not called for.
Sure, we are way behind the big dogs in Europe and Inter. And Inter are really the culprits of this close gap, the points they have uselessly lost this season… dear God. Also, Juve was expected to be better than us at the start, and they have been getting pounded a lot recently. Also Fiorentina haven't either lived up to expectations, at least result wise. Roma have impressed though.
While the above has probably been influential on our really good league table positioning, it still feels like we much better of a team than in the summer. The team we saw then was just terrible. Even with the numerous Inter slip-ups and the delusions named Viola and Juve, the team we saw in august would not be at -1. At best we would be in the Europa League fighting spot.
So for the game itself.... despite the absences in defense and of Pato, I cannot see us getting on the return bus to Milanello with less than 3 points. Parma did impress recently, or so I think seeing as they were leading throughout most of the game away vs Bari, we have to win. Even their home advantage shouldn't matter.
But I dont expect that this round will put us in front. Inter are facing Livorno at the San Siro, so I cannot see them slipping up in that game. (Livorno got trashed 3-0 vs Atalanta on sunday) But honestly, I would not be overly surprised to see Inter drop a couple points…
This weekend though, I expect us to make the magic happen (we vs Lazio at SS, Inter vs Roma at l'Olimpico).
