Mourinho came out today and said it was a sham, Xavi, Milito, or Sneijder should have won. I tend to agree. I don't like Inter for many reasons, but I'm also not a blind idiot. Milito and Sneijder did very well last year, and I would have considered them, for the award. In fact, I probably would have given it to Sneijder, based off of his performances for Club and National Team.

I think the award should be given to a player based off of a particular season, not a calender year. I'm not sure how it works now, but it doesn't make sense. The award should be given out in September, based off of 1 Full Season and if it's a World Cup Year.

Messi in 2009-2010 had 49 Goals in 64 Total Appearances. He also had 11 Assists, helped Barcelona to another La Liga Trophy, and made the Semis in the Champions League, losing to Inter. He was a major disappointment in the World Cup though, which should have hurt him.

Sneijder in 2009-2010 had 9 Goals, 12 Assists in 45 Appearances. He was the backbone of both Club and National Teams; Inter obviously won Champions League beating Barca and Bayern in Final. Then, rode the Netherlands to the Finals of the World Cup losing to Spain. He was very important pieces of both teams who overachieved last season.

Milito in 2009-2010 had 36 Goals and 6 Assists in 58 Appearances. He was instrumental in Inter's success to win Champions League scoring 6 times and twice in the Final. However, he did not play much for Maradona's Argentina.

Xavi in 2009-2010 had 6 Goals and 19 Assists in 62 Appearances. He started out the year winning the Club World Cup, again won the Spanish Liga, made the Semi-Finals of Champions league losing to eventual champion, and obviously won the World Cup as the Starting CM. Much of what he does is not recorded in stats, but he obviously is a fantastic player.

Lastly, Andres Iniesta in 2009-2010 had 1 Goal and 7 Assists in 46 Appearances. However, he scored 2 Goals in the World Cup and 1 being in the Final, winning it for Spain for the first time in the History of the tournament. He's another player like Xavi that helps Barcelona tick, and does it sometimes unnoticed.
