Olympics

I thought it might be worth having a thread for the olympics football tournament.

They kicked off earlier today and the Womens results were

Greece 0 - 3 USA
Germany 8 - 0 China
Brazil 1 - 0 Australia
Sweden 0 - 1 Japan

I only saw a bit of the Brazil - Aus match and Brazil were dominating possession, but missing their chances.

The Mens results were

Tunisia 1 - 1 Australia
Argentina 6 - 0 Serbia and Montenegro
Greece 2 - 2 Korea
Mali 0 - 0 Mexico

I saw the Argentina match live and all I can say is they are incredible. They are technically superb and look like they can beat anyone. I have a feeling they may have some defensive problems against those who use wide areas well and who are good at set plays.

I will try to keep this thread updated with results, but I may not be able to, so if anyone wishes to do so, please feel free

watched the italy ghana on British eurosport. i tend to support italy in tournaments if Ireland are not there. the game finished 2 all. Italy were 2 nil down at half time. the goals were slightly against the run of play. steven appiah from juve got a very good goal outside the box similar to seedorfs goal against inter last season. italy completely dominated 2nd half pinzi and giraldino scored. italy should have had penalty aswel de rossi was brought down in box by goalkeeper. del nero missed a great chance too at the end when one on one with keeper. best for italy were de rossi, giraldino and captain andrea pirlo

I only saw the last half hour. I really expected Italy to win 5-0 or something. Pirlo was great, constantly giving and receiving the ball. Could he be the most under rated player in the world

Mens matches

Costa Rica 0 - 0 Morocco
Iraq 4 - 2 Portugal
Italy 2 - 2 Ghana
Paraguay 4 - 3 Japan

Saw the Italy match and the team were a little under par. Ghana played well and Appiah was excellent. Italy in the first half were very slow, lacked creativity and were often dominated. The second half was a major improvement and Pirlo was magnificent in leading the charge. This still is far from what they are capable of, so an improvement is expected in the next match.

The Iraq - Portugal match was a good match as well. Portugal looked fairly good on paper, but Iraq were excellent. They dominated the match and earned an excellent victory.

I don't think many people care about the olympics.

I tried looking at some results on www.goal.com but they don't not have a single section about the Olympics

No, not many do. Its a little bit of a shame really, as there are some good looking sides out there (Iraq and especially Argentina have impressed thus far)

i saaw highlights of the tournament this morning, and it does look like argentina will be the team to beat, hopefully italia will perform better, mind u we should have won yesterday at the death. and i agree many people are not interested in the olympics anymore and its a shame because it is one of the most special worldwide tournaments on earth. i even heard one morning dj say that this could be the last olympics due to the lack of interest in the sport, i hope not.
