Ok in Italian football no matter how many teams are tied on points there can only be ONE play-off.

So if you take a quick glance at the table you will see Fiorentina, Bologna and Parma are all tied. Heck you will also see Bologna actually sit ABOVE Fiorentina (on gd).

But gd is irrelevant here. So what happens you make a mini-table with Fiorentina, Parma and Bologna. Then you see how many points the teams have secured in the encounters between each other. Since Fiorentina have secured the most between the 3, they are safe.

So then you would think, well what about Bologna and Parma, who has secured more between the two.

Irrelevant. Since Fiorentina have secured the most Bologna and Parma have to play the play-off!

well done, well explained. but i don't understand why the fuss about this system from some of the members of this forum and the mistake done by eurosport. this is the same system used in the champions league and in all uefa/fifa competitions, including european championships and world cup. few countries still use the unfair criterion of the goal difference. i think england and germany. direct encounter is by far more fair.

I was confused because someone told me h2h record wouldnt count for a title play off in Serie A, thus I assumed it wouldnt be either for relegation (?)

head to head doesn't count when it comes to scudetto winners. considering parma have so many suspensions, including gilardino, i can't wait to see them drop. i will throw a little party if and when parma get relegated. this season may have been winless for us but i will revel in the joy of seeing parma drop.

i bet they now wish they had given juve a game instead of lying down like dogs and dying.

I was wondering where all the hatred came from, Nadir. Usually people don't get so steamed about Parma. Then I read this:

Even if Milan win the next 3 champions league trohpies and scuddeto's, we still missed out on this one, as it certainly would have been the greatest..

how often does Maldini score? and we all know how great Maldini's record-breaking career..he broke the record of scoring the fastest goal in a champions league final.. a beautiful volley.. and a 3-0 half time scoreline..

i mean, this loss will remain in my heart for years to come.. it has really hit me hard.. and i have travelled to istanbul to watch the game.. it was terrible to see the team lose like this..

this year and last year's champions leagues should have both been ours, but we always seem to throw away comfortable leads..i pray and i wish, we can get our the trophy next year, we really really really really deserved it this year.. more than any other team, it just makes me sick that Liverpool has had SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much luck throughout this season in champions league..
