Seedorf - Dutch vs England

Did anyone see this match on Wednsday?

if so, how did seedorf play? he seemed motivated.

I'm glad you put this here, i was wondering where i could leave my comments. I saw the first half and Seedorf got a great reception, alot of his touches were cheered by the crowd. To be honest, no one really stood out from either team in the 45 mins i saw, the best 'tussle' if you like was Robben v Richards. Robben naturally all pace, but Richards had enough to match him and cause his own problems when he went forward.

Back to Seedorf though and i have to say he didn't do much at all. He had a few nice touches and did some great 1-2 passing with Van der Vaart to set the latter up with a chance at goal. Other than that he just did his usual ghost impression and floated around the pitch, hardly ever breaking out into a jog let alone a run. This is the most infuriating thing about him, he's just not quick enough or aggressive enough at times. Fair enough this was just a friendly, so no need to read too much into it i guess. However, the dutch team more than compensate for Seedorf's slowness with the pace of Robben, Van Persie (when included), Emmanulsen, Babbel (when included) and Kuyt's tireless running. If we had more of these attributes in our team, we could maybe carry someone's lack of speed, but as most of our players are slow anyway it just emphasises the problem even more.

The Dutch formation (4-3-3) also helps Seedorf more as he's covered by 2 people, the left-back and the left-sided forward, this again compensates for his lack of speed.

The way we set ourselves up, i just don't think Seedorf has it in him to be the powerhouse midfielder he needs to be to meet the demands of that position, at least not week in, week out.

I am very happy for him because he played the whole 90 minutes. I hope that from now on van Basten would at least keep him as a sub Sneijder (or the other way around). I wish more luck and good games (with Milan as well) for Clarence.

i agree with Jims assessment, he showed a few nice touches and linked well at times but overall he (like everyone else playing) didnt seem all that interested.

England didnt make much but controlled the game and deserved to win, the Dutch got a late equaliser from a long throw in after not really threatening much from open play, despite having plenty of possession in harmless areas. Im glad Richards did well though as i tipped him here in a thread on young talents last season , he's only 18 but handled the step up well and has a bright future in the game...shame he plays for the bitter blue half, though i doubt he'll stay there for long

yeah, it seems when he's motivated he plays fantastic...but the effort, at times seems lack-luster. it must make it difficult for carlo...which seedorf is going to show up.

i actually have a couple players like this on my U15 team. i am always asking them and their parents, what did he eat b4 the game...whatever it was, feed it to him b4 every game.

Im not impressed by this seasons Seedorf. Hes trying to hard to play in a Zidane like way.
