Coppa Italia: Catania - Milan [16/01/2008]

The game is on Wednesday night.

We lost the first leg, and aiming for the win at this one of course.

Some of the key players should be rested, because in the weekend we have a more tough game - Udine.

Forza Milan !!!

They should be rested just in case they are tired.
I think we'll see Pato and Gila upfront..It's just too good we can see the Duck playing again. No need to wait until the weekend.

An Ode to Catania - By William DruSpeare

In front of their Goal,
Catania Parked a Truck,
But still a hole,
Found the duck
A Tormented soul-
Their Keeper was like "Oh F**K"

Catania will be on a high after pushing Juve to within a minute or 2 of victory, but will also be determined to see they finish the job this time round against us.

Assuming all these players are fit, my line up would be something like this:

Dida, Favalli, Kaladze/Simic, Bonera, Cafu, Serginho, Emerson, Brocchi, Gourcuff, Pato, Gilardino

Whichever youngsters we have floating around should also be given a chance too.

I'm not sure it's a team good enough to win (though you can never be certain), but they are players that need to play to gain confidence & form.

I play fifa 08 too Jim ( i.e. resting Kaka, Seedorf, Ronaldo, Pirlo, Nesta, Maldini, Gattuso- and playing Pato all the time )

Catania is one of the best home teams in serie A (only Inter, Juve and Sampdoria have better home record) and they play well organized defense ( 5 goals conceeded at home, only Juve are better).
I was impressed how they closed everything on Saturday and they even deserved to beat Juve who had their first shot on target in 80th minute.

Plus, they've already played 1:1 against Milan's best team at San Siro and they've beaten Milan's second team, again at San Siro.

I'm not sure "your" team is what's needed to eliminate Catania.

True, true, but we also have a pretty neat outside San Siro record.

Pato is 18, hasn't played for 6 months, and needs to get used to playing in Italy + Europe as fast as possible, so I would play him each time I can from now till the end of the league (unless experience is a need).

I think Pato should play, along with Gila...Brocci, Favalli, Cafu...in other words, our "reserves" can be fielded, and regardless of their strong home record, Milan is a team with much better players...so we should be able to reverse the scoreline.

That said, I dont really care about this game, TBH.

We have an important date with 4th place, that we need to prepare for.

I don't believe our 'second' team will be good enough to beat a full strength Catania, but like i said before, you can never be 100% sure what will happen. It's clear we don't hold the Coppa Italia in much regard and it's never been one of our 'objectives', so the only point of this match is to let less-regular players have some playing time and if we progress then great, if not then so be it.

After the first leg I'm certain we can win this match well, even without putting out a much stronger lineup. We were very unfortunate to lose at home
