Berlusconi resigns

MILAN, ITALY (TICKER) —AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi has resigned from his position in charge of the Serie A giants, the club announced Thursday.

According to Italian law, the 71-year-old Berlusconi has to leave to avoid a conflict of interests when he begins his third stint as Italian prime minister.

It is expected that Berlusconi will hand over the reins to current vice president Adriano Galliani.

A brief letter from Berlusconi published on the official AC Milan web site read, “The assumption of the role of Prime Minister forces me, in adherence to law 215/2004, to resign from the club responsibilities.

“With vivid regret, therefore, I resign with immediate effect from my role of president and of advisor to AC Milan.”

Berlusconi stepped down once before as president of the Rossoneri, in 2004, but re-assumed his position in 2006 when he lost the general election to outgoing Italian prime minister Romano Prodi.

here's what I don't understand... many presidents, or politicians in general, in charge of a public office, are business men, entrepeneurs... now, I understand if he leave something as visible as AC Milan, in order not affect the club, more than government position, by making someone think could win because of his position...

but does this mean he should (or will) resign from the board of all his other companies? Doubt it... then why Milan? Why isn't it more suspicious to have a club president in charge of the Serie A... like Moratti, or previously Galliani, or anyone else?

I`m not sure, but I think the previous time he resigned,it was mentioned that it was regulated by the Italian Law or smth.(not sure though)

so is pier silvio now our president or has the reigns been handed to Galliani?

so what happnes for the finances now who pumps the money in?

Berlusconi...... he only resigned from the management, the law doesnt prevent him from financing the club.

he still owns his share of the club, but really, he simply cant do anything in the club, including veto-ing signing players

Nothing will change. He is still the owner of the club and will finance the club. Galliani will assume day to day duties (which he probably already does) and the “President” role will remain vacant until Berlu is back.

this change is pretty much just in paper...
