Champions League 2004/2005 Prediction League

Well, lets see how many people is interested in this game.

It will work pretty much like the Prediction Leagues we already have. This game has 2 parts:

PART I. You have until MONDAY 27 OF SEPTEMBER to submit you predicted final standings for each group, you just need to say how you think the final standings in each group will be, no need to say the amount of points or anything like that, for example, my prediction for Milan's group would be:

1. AC Milan
2. Barcelona
3. Celtic
4. Shakhtar

and you have to do that for all the 8 Champions League groups...

The points awarded will be:

RULE 1. 10 points for correctly predicting to the first 2 of each group (those that qualify for the next round). You get the 10 points regardless of the order of the first 2, so, considering the sample prediction I made above, if Barca and Milan qualify for the next round I get 10 points, regardless of whether Barca or Milan win the group.

RULE 2. 5 points for correctly predicting a team's final standing. So using the prediction sample again, if Celtic is third of the group, I get 5 points, regardless of the final position of all the other teams in the group.

RULE 3. 20 points for correctly predicting the group's final standing. So you get 20 points only if you predict the exact final position of all the teams in the group. Logically, if you predict the exact final position of all teams in a group you not only get these 20 points but also the respective points from Rules 1 and 2 (so at the end you earn 50 points if you make a 'perfect prediction' for a group).

Once again, you have until MONDAY 27 OF SEPTEMBER to submit your predictions for this part of the game (Monday 27 is the day before Matchday 2)

Regardless of whether you participate in PART I of the game you can also participate at anytime in PART II:


PART II. Just like in the Serie A Prediction League...predict the winners (or if it is going to end in a draw) for every match of every group for each Matchday. You must make these predictions before the first kick-off of the Matchday (play it safe and make you predictions by the Monday before the matches). So since there are 6 Matchdays, you will need to make 6 predictions, one every 2 weeks or so...the Matchday's dates are as follow:

Matchday 1 - 14/15 September 2004
Matchday 2 - 28/29 September 2004
Matchday 3 - 19/20 October 2004
Matchday 4 - 2/3 November 2004
Matchday 5 - 23/24 November 2004
Matchday 6 - 7/8 December 2004

So keep these dates in mind!!

A sample prediction (for Matchday 1) would be:

As you can see (and as many of you know already), 1 stands for home in, X stands for draw, and 2 stands for away win.

You will be awarded 1 points for every correct prediction. So if you correctly predict the outcome of all matches in a Matchday, you will end up earning 16 points.
