Looking for a few good people!

Wow!
Some other forums i've been on have loads of people who would kill to become a moderator. Not the same interest her though which is strange. Also there is no say from the users. The Administrators ask someone if they want to become one privately and if they do then they become one and if they don't they ask someone else. There is no shortage of takers that's for sure. I think asking what all the users think is better though.

Kev, you're new here, and I've been here since the place started. We've gone thru all and I do mean ALL methods of finding mods and appointing them--from asking for nominations to taking votes. Sadly at times the voting is nothing more than a popularity poll. Right now we're addressing the problem of some good people who were highly recommended by members who have apparently all but abandoned the forums and their mod position without saying anything to anyone as to why.

I more than welcome input from members but to say the least the outcome can be questionable. Maybe MM has been around too long, maybe people have gotten to the point where they don't care how the place is run as long as it's online for them to use. And how does one address people who have been nominated and refuse the promotion?

Be weary of what you are suggesting. I'm very aristocratic in my nature. It runs in my blood and been so with my forefathers. My own posts makes this only so obvious. I know my place and the best interest of this site is to make sure I stay there. You commons run the show now. You could do a better job at it !LOL!...but the worst solution is to try and reinvigorate an archaic system of oligarchs. LOL! I'm laughing but please consider the seriousness as well.

That can be a problem. If there is a vote and the person who wins doesn't actually want to become a moderator. The whole thing will have been a waste of time.

The nomination process is working IMO. I believe the mods we do have are pretty good. The ones who are currently inactive are so for whatever reasons. They too have been good as far as I recall. This happens from time to time as Debs well knows. People move get married, too busy, or thrown in jail. Not that any of our distinguish mods are serving time or anything... but you can see my point. The continuity of this site and mods is working fine.

I wish things were working as well as you think, Kui, but there are mods who haven't been here since April, mid-May, or mid to late June. I'm very sorry, but to me that isn't what can be defined as "active." Could you please give me your definition of active? How often should a mod come here and check the su-forums they've asked to be assigned to?

Of course I understand how our real lives do and have to take precedence, I know that as well as anyone. Maybe we have a simple lack of communication, I don't know. What bothers me is that when there are things that need to be discussed or decided in Mods Haven, it's usually just Rez and I posting with Dev, RIO, sometimes Trin and sometimes Warro adding a few things. Unfortunately this has been going on for close to a year, and I find it frustrating, to be frank about it. Rez and I DO NOT want to be the supreme dictators here; I'd really like to have this be a fairly democratic site, or at least as democratic as privately owned site can be. I simply feel like I'm talking to myself--maybe Rez can add to that. I simply have no answers as to why active and eager mods suddenly vanish when they've been doing such a good job, so I'm open to whatever anyone has to say about it. Should mods only serve for a year or 18 months or....what?


Oh and as Kui said...I don't mean serving jail time!

I'm sorry if I was misunderstood. I meant that the active mods you have now Warro and Dev are doing a fine job IMO. Unless you're implying that is not so either.

I've already endorsed 2 people when I had earlier taken the position months back that I wouldnt do this. That doesnt mean I dont think these folks deserve it. I have other names that come to mind and I feel bad that I mentioned 2 names (one starting with an S and another starting with a Z) without bringing up the others. I wont do so. I've broken the pledge once and wont do it again.

I know you dont want to be dictatorial about this but sometimes you do need to use your executive power and go ask people you really like without our consensus or blessing.

I've just sent PMs out to Jeff, SANT, Zlat, and Jim_UK....

What about the following people that we discussed before? Still people that we could nominate? mk 18, rae, Mia, Dragana and Stezagud

I agree with the names mentioned, even if they don't accept or they are unable to now they should the next ones to be considered.

please don't forget Vadim... he's young, but he can do a good job...

I also offered Vadim a position as mod since he's been showing alot of initiative and interest in the forums and making them better.

I'll also mention that Graeme is either going to be offered a mod position OR if he's able to help Rez with fixing up the site, we may give him the title of Techie or something like that.

So far I've heard from SANT, Jeff, Zlantanov and Vadim, and they've all accepted a trial run of being mods for us. These trial runs will start in August, and that is partically to see what they think of the position when games are being played, as we'll have some pre-season activity and we'll also hit the first game or 2 of the season, and this will also hit the end of the transfer season.

If anyone else has any nominees they'd like to name, please feel free to do so at any time!

Deb, how long do you plan this trial period to be ?

Well, I was thinking at least 4 weeks. I haven't actually asked Rez what he's thinking....but I'd guess 4 or 6 weeks...
