Considering it the 21st century, and the likes of diarra and essien were bought from a club like lyon for over 20 million, then 20 million for De rossi from Roma seems reasonable. De Rossi is at the very least on the same callibre as those aforementioned, but i dont think Milan will pay up

you should remember the clubs who bought Essien and Diarra were Real and Chelsea. De Rossi at the moment can't reach 20M I'm sure. Zlatan was only more than 16M, Joaquin was more than 16M, Carrick was more than 17 M <and 17 M was a overpaid price>, Tevez and Mascherano were about that price too. Though the performances of the players above are not good now, but in last season, who could say they were not good <not sure about Zlatan>. With 20M I'd rather see we add some more money <about 5M more> and get Vaart and Sneijder.

i'll put it simple... no names needed... rather a quick describtion of what we need...

1... a striker that isn't wasteful & can score consistently... even in the CL... the quality of the goals isn't important... rather the regularity & quantity...

2... a forward of quality to challenge/replace Oliveira...

3... a like-for-like replacement for Seedorf or Kaka... Gourcuff alone isn't enough... more attackin' midfielders is a big must now... we have been sendin' in defenders or defensive midfielders even when we are tryin' to get goals... if that isn't a clear indication we are lackin' attackin' options from midfield... i don't know what does... Foggia returnin' would definitely add width too...

4... a like-for-like Pirlo replacement... someone with a creative brain & good passin'... thus Pirlo can be rested at times against weaker opponents to keep himself fresh for sterner tests... Brocchi & Ambro are not decent replacements in that role...

5... a new LB... while Janku can remain first choice at LB... surely he need a deputy that can challenge him in that position... i rather Serginho move into his more familiar midfield role & he can remain an emergency LB if necessary...

6... likewise at RB... if Marazotti (spelling?) proves his worth at Empoli... he can return to be a deputy to a new seasoned & experienced RB... Bonera should only feature as an emergency RB... he would be better off as a CB where we would be safe for the time bein' with Nesta... Kaladze... Simic & Bonera as options... Favalli would only be considered in the worst of situations...

7... a new GK only if Dida doesn't sign an extension... else Coppolla or Abbiati might be enough unless someone young & good is found...

all in all... 7 new signings to finally make Milan more competitive... and this is the bare minimum...

You are on the spot Zz. It may sound like too many signings, but like you said we don't really need a lot of new starters. 2 will do the trick and those are a RB and a FW/ST! The rest is just quality back-ups that can always step in and we wouldn't feel the level of play going down.

rossoneri....what are you talking about? I would agree for the Oddo part, but Marquez for Nesta? I really think that you are the only person I have heard say anything like that and the only person that I have heard actually wanting to drop Nesta for someone else. Nesta is the rock in our defence and will remain to be for another 3-4 years.

I don't know if we are really going to buy any players but I really hope that we sign players on a loan or 1 year deals. Those players should be like favalli, old but still with something to prove. They can be a good back-up to our world cup players as thay have started to complain about fatigue now. It was obvious from the beggining itself that we needed to have a bigger sqaud this year due to the WC and UCL qualification.

Pirlo used to get injured and feel tired even without WC last year when they have holiday for a month and half. This year guys like Nesta, Pirlo and Rino had just 10 days vaccation. This issue cannot be overlooked as players will start getting injured later in this season without any back ups.

Realistically though.

1&2 will get rolled into 1 player. ie. MAYBE we will sign 1 forward this year.

3 - I agree and vote for Sneijder

4 - I agree and there are many good options

5 - I doubt a LB will be a priority and I doubt anyone will be signed.
Look at all the guys who can play LB (sort of)
Maldini (too old)
Janku (Good, but Milan experience?)
Kaladze (good, but better at CB)
Favalli (ugh.. not even a good choice for a backup)
Seginho (more of a LW, ok as a backup but too old for everyday)
Costacurta (ok, stretching. He's not a LB and is too old anyway)
--- point is, Milan won't buy a LB this year.

6 - true RB definately needed badly.
With cafu, simic, and bonera I doubt we'll sign anyone until next year.

7 - Abbiati may be a good choice if Dida doesn't sign but not Coppolla. Coppolla for a backup maybe. Hopefully we'll sign Amelia next year, even if Dida does sign.

Anyway good post. Unfortunately there seems to be a big gap between what is needed and what we'll get. Hopefully I'm wrong on that.

I miss JDT, he is the best back up striker we have ever had.

If mascherono ,joaqin and carick were bought for 15-17mil than DeRossi's(World Champion) value is definitely over 20mil
He is a young and very talented player who plays excelent for Roma and Italy

Most of these players are still not Milan standard. I suggest we get Ronaldo as an interim measure. He is still a fantastic striker and is the same age as Sheva and a couple months older than Henry. Capello forced him to et beck into shape annd his skills and speed match and beat anything we have now
