1 st half vs. America is over. Here is my resume:
It was a poor performance by Milan in the first 45 min.,we had only ONE shoot on goal. First 10 min America owned us,good passing from them, than we managed to equilibrate. The defence was good, no midfield, poor attack. The palyers:
Storari--decent saves, very good back-up GK
Antonini-- good defending, poor in attack, had a huge chance to score but sends the ball wide
Janku-- like we all know he can't defend, had often runs in attack but Seedorf didn't see him. We realy need a new LB, LWB.
Nesta-- he is Nesta
Favalli-- he was secure in his interventions
Gattuso-- sorry for him, and Milan, but he was owned by America's players
Flamini-- his usual game, active in build up attack
Seedorf-- poor play, lost balls, didn't pass to janku on few times when he was alone
Ronaldinho-- had an amazing FK but hits the post, some tricks and good passing but he lost the ball too many times
Inzaghi-- with Zigoni looks like he is alone in the attack, so nothing
Zigoni-- I think he touched the ball 1-2 times
I'll be back with the 2nd half resume.

We're losing, yay! It was so expected.

Rino being incited by the opposition players now.

Oh, but what really woke me up was when the substitution for Abate was being made

The screen said

Abate: Entree
Seedorf: Sale

1=1 Pippo again, with a perfectly floated pass from Flamini.
This is bad, how long are we going to have to rely on Pippo for our all important goals?
We need someone to give him some time off.

I was happy to see youngsters playing well. We have got a real jewel in the making in Zigoni. Strasser was also intense. I hope Leo can develop these two guys.

Our Midfield is not good enough. All our creative play comes from Ronaldinho. I guess that is because we are missing Pirlo. I hope he joins the team asap. Onyewu used his height well. If he develops further I see no reason why he can't be our starting CB.

Considering the players's we are missing, I think we played well. Don't pay attention to the results too much, it is the play that matters.

The games in this tournament have been very intense. All teams are serious and players are tackling hard. It will be interesting to see how we fare against the fresh looking Chelski. It will be a very good test of our defense against Drog, Anelka and Lampard.

FT AC Milan- America CF 1-2
We were to nervous for a friendly game.
Gattuso was owned in the 2nd half also and received an yellow card. Same for Janku.
Changes in the 2nd half for Milan:
Onyewu in for Nesta on 45'
Abate in for Seedorf on 60'
Zambro in for Antonini in 69'
Strasser in for Gattu on 75'
Harmony in for Flams on 79'
Milan had a good start of 2nd half. A good 1-2 between Roonie and Seedorf, who shoots and a good save from America's GK. On the corner kick, Zigoni hits the post. Then a good passing move from America and they scored 0-1,a header, with a bit of help from Onyewu who was to static. We managed to respond quickly and after an great counter-attack Pippo scores 1-1 after an excelent pass ,over America's defence, from Flamini. After the goal we played poorly again, just a great FK again from R80 but america's GK saves it.From 75 min when Strasser and Harmony got in we lacked so much in passing, and America scored again 1-2, another header, Zambro's fault my guess. From the 90' till 93' we played better and had an huge chance in 91' but Zigoni, alone, from 6-7 m sends it wide. In the 93' a FK from 30-35 m but R80 managed to send it to center and America's GK have no problem. 93 FT and we lost. But is was only our 3rd game this season, and it was after Sunday's game. Yoy may say "SO WHAT?".
Overall it was a poor-mediocre performance by Milan. WE NEED IMPROVEMENTS, Roonie can't play and win a game by himself, he needs help from MIDFIELD, like he had in Barca, we need players like Xavi and Iniesta. Flamini for me is a starter for Milan this season. Pirlo+Hernanes (or other good player will be fine for our MID). Also we need an LB/LWB, hope Braida will come with something from South America. Today we missed Nesta so much in the 2nd half, hope he'll be fine this season. I think Leo or other should have an eye in some players for America CF, they are very skilled. Only well. FORZA MILAN!!!

I think we have to put things into perspective: this is pre-season.

Leonardo has a job similar to Lippi with Italy, in what sense? He has to see what players from the old guard he can still rely upon.

Ronaldinho has not been as effective as he can be, mostly because he is having to go deeper and deeper to get the ball. Seedorf is supposed to be the passing and creative force in our center, but it seems that he is not doing that job well (which he has done well in the past).

I really think Pirlo is far more important to Milan than we really think. It also is difficult for Milan to play without the outlet of Pato or Boriello. Any game where Inzaghi is checking back to actually dribble with the ball, means that something is going wrong.

We also have to hold that clubs like Club America take these games far more serious than our players (which I think is unfortunate) but many players know what their role will be and are frankly playing with that in mind. Ronaldinho cannot be a playmaker from that deep in midfield, without having midfielders, wingers, or strikers with the sort of movement and skill that he had at Barca.

Ronaldinho will be far more effective with Pirlo is midfield, who will be able to spray passes to our full-backs, rather than expecting them to push forward with the ball rather than to the ball. I also have to say Inzaghi is an ever-green, and I think that lack of a physical presence upfront really showed, Boriello I think does dirty work but one that benefits our more light-weight players. Zigoni is 18, and you can tell he was over thinking, things did not go right for him immediately, which is common among youth players, who are used to dominating their peers. They lose their composure, their confidence, and start doing things they wouldn't normally do. This is very typical of young strikers, especially.

However, I have to say that Abate seems to be more than a one-dimensional speed demon, he has a wicked shot and I think he was also nervous finally playing in Milan colors. I think as he settles down with the idea of finally being back where he belongs, he will be able to have more confidence with the ball. I also wish Di Gennaro was given another shot.

Strasser seems to have similar grit of Gattuso, which I like. However, I have to say, at this point I would rather keep Pirlo then sell him for Hernanes. The midfield's speed is not the issue, a ball can always move faster than a player, however, the issue is the outlet up-top, and by making Ronaldinho and Inzaghi come further and further back for the ball, the team loses shape, and our midfield seems directed towards destruction rather than playmaking.

A question I was asked by several coaches was whether it was more detrimental to have a bad central defender or center forward. I think if you have a midfield that can hold the ball, a bad center forward is worse. When you don't have someone to relieve pressure, you will have a terrible time trying to play.

That being said, I think we underestimate the role Pato, Pirlo, Boriello, and Thiago Silva have for this team. I think Thiago Silva gives more channeled athleticism than Onyewu does. Onyewu seems designed for teams that sit back, but the way he had his back to the attacker, rather than being along-side him will be hammered out of him (hopefully).

I think Antonini is pretty good, but not good enough to be a day-in-day-out starter for Milan. I have full confidence in Zambrotta consistency, but I think we will find out left full-back spot to be a major weakness, unless Janku can turn up, or if Oddo decides to play like he can, pushing Zambro left, it seems Milan's weak-link will be our left side.

I'm not sure if Milan really need to be revolutionized, but I think we are missing too many of our squad to really judge. I think if we had everyone fit and ready, and they played like they did today, then I would be worried. But Pato up top, Thiago Silva in the back, Pirlo in the center, it's amazing what a difference that would make for us. I think more pressing than a center-forward is a left-back, because it seems all the goals we've conceded in pre-season have come from that side.

Didn't our answer to our left-back problems is now in Lyon?

He didn't brush his teeth or something like that during the medical and failed the test... vaguely remember... hhhhmmmmm

oh well... no big deal, just conceded 2 goals from a cross coming from the left side, no biggie...

You know, I don't think Grosso would be a bad option. Considering that Cissoko should have been here, I guess I'll take Grosso, though Crisicto would be better.

I really will be dissappointed if we don't get a new LB, because frankly, I have faith that Ronaldinho, Pato, Boriello, and Inzaghi can provide enough goals for us. Sure, I'd like to have another striker, but, if I had to choose between a striker and a LB for Milan, I'd have to take the left-back.
