Seriously, selling Pato would be a crime even for 50 million pounds, not because he worth more at the moment but because he will worth much more in the very near futur, and because even if you have those 50 m in your hand you will not find a player similar to Pato in the market, put a side the fact that our managment will put the money in their own pocket like Kaka's money.
Pato is the only super star in Milan at the moment ( or at least the only player who can be one )
Pato is the most entertaining player in Seria A at the moment without compition, so he brings more fans and ultimitly more money.
Pato is a player that shines in the big games like the derbies and CL so he can bring the club trophies.

I am a fan of selling any player when the right offer arrives but only on the right time ( when the player is at his peak and the suitable replacement is avialbe), and in this case I can't say its the right time.

Just keep the guy and offer him a new contract at least give him what other usless players ( Ambro Kala, and Dida ) earn per year and after 5 or 6 years sell him but now, sorry but thanks.

That said, the overreaction of panic-minded fans notwithstanding, couldn't this Pato thing actually be a smart move for Milan if Chelsea were really willing to offer so much money for a player who hasn't yet proven himself in the same way that a Kaka or a Cristiano Ronaldo are proven? Pato is not worth nearly that much based on what he's actually accomplished. He's been brilliant sometimes, but he hasn't yet been brilliant consistently. His perceived value is based largely on potential.
are you serious?

I think pato has all the potential to reach the level of kaka and Ronaldo!! this kid is really amazing and is worth a lot more than that 52m IMO! at least if you consider for how much kaka and ronaldo were transfered. Pato will be the best striker in the world soon, he's scored against every big team in serie A last season and he will shine in CL this season! I'm totally against this deal!!

Milan have denied the story on the official site. "He is absolutely unsellable."

The problem is, though, I'm far from certain that Berlusconi would spend that cash on new players.
I don't think there's any way Berlusconi could not spend the money on new players. The debt has already been paid off, so that's no longer an issue. As for the part about being a "selling club," the truth is that Milan has always been a selling club. Every club is a selling club. Even Manchester United, which has been on top of the world the past couple of seasons, sold the reigning World Player of the Year when the price was right. I would rather be a club that conducts smart business (not that Milan always does that, of course) than a club with so much ego that they can't be seen as a "selling club." The idea isn't to win a "biggest penis" contest by throwing your weight around to buy the biggest name players like Real Madrid or to resist offers simply on the basis of not wanting to look as though your penis is smaller. The idea is to build the best team you possibly can. If I could parlay Pato into, say, Rossi, D'Agostino and a really good fullback, I think I would have to do it in Milan's current position (especially with the knowledge that I could keep Pato for this season and add a player like Dzeko next summer for a reasonable fee).

But, again, there's almost certainly nothing substantial to these reports, considering the source. It's an interesting hypothetical situation though.

Yes, I'm serious. Although, again, there's about a 99.9% chance that there's nothing to these reports, I think it's something that -- if the offer were presented -- Milan should consider under the current financial restraints of the club. Just because a player has the potential to be as good as Kaka or Ronaldo doesn't make him nearly as valuable as they are at this point. If Pato is worth 45 million pounds, then Real Madrid made out like a bandit getting Kaka for only 59 million pounds and Ronaldo for only 80 (personally, I think they overpaid for both). Those guys have not only proven themselves by winning the World Player of the Year award, but both are just entering what should be the prime of their careers. This makes them at least twice as valuable as a 20-year-old player who has the potential to be in their class a few years from now (when his contract is going to be running out anyway). Simple logic would dictate that if you can use one player who may be great someday to replenish your squad with three or four who can be world class players as well, it's smart business. I was always in favor of selling Kaka for a ridiculous offer (although I wasn't in favor of putting all the money toward paying off the club's relatively meager debt). Of course Milan probably wouldn't do such a Pato deal even if it were offered because of the backlash (after Kaka was already sold) from fans who think with their hearts and not with their brains.

I could care less if Milan r considered a "buying" club, or a "selling" club, as long as we are a "winning" club....a trophy every other season would work nicely.

I have grave doubts about Leo though...is there a short-list of coaches we can look at for Jan, when we're in the bottom half of the table?

I don't believe nothing from Milan managgment, even it is official.
They announced officialy Sisshoko and then....crap.Galiani said many times "i'd rather cut my hand instead of signing the sell of Kaka" and then crap.......everywhere is crap.
After loosing our Captain and our best player and seeing how our managment is reacting i can tell that Milan is a circus.

Given that Santacroce has already been prepared to move and his agent even declared something like he'd run to Juve, I think the guy is probably prepared to leave.

There is no way Vargas is worth 15m. He went to Fiorentina for about 7.5m and has had a season below the standards he set the previous season. at the very most he's worth 10m.

Also many clubs have been after these guys, Vargas' future has been in constant speculation since before the season ended and Santacroce has been sought after by Juve, with Ferrara declaring his admiration for the player and Santacroce's agent making clear indications he would be prepared to leave (as I said above).

The last time (and only year) Kaladze had a solid year in CB was back in 2005/2006. 2006 onwards he's had some impressive performances which have been marred by many bad ones. His constant injuries and continued drop in form (something which has been diving for a couple of years) make him unsuitable even as a backup at Milan. Bonera is better than both him and Onyewu and is for me by far our best backup in defence for the new season.
If Napoli were willing to sell Santacroce, then he would have to leave at a price around 15 million euros. But hold on, we are talking about a CB. We already have 6 full-time CBs. Do we really need to spend on a center back when we desperate need a creative midfielder? I don't think so. Maybe we can think about it if Kaladze and Favalli or Nesta were to leave.

Vargas's 15 million euros price was set when Fenerbahce wanted to buy him but he did not agree to the move. Fiorentina have also said that if Vargas were to leave they would bring in Drenthe. Drenthe certainly wouldn't cost 15 million euros and so wouldn't De Silvestri, as the respective clubs of both the players want to sell them; Then why should we spend that amount?

My argument was never about pitching Bonera below Kaladze. Bonera can team up with Nesta very well and so would Kaladze. However, Bonera would be my choice above Kaladze.

Some news today from Milannews:

Bayern Munich are interested in Kaladze.
Milan and Madrid are still talking, but this time over Van Der Vaart.

I like both bits of news. Hopefully they become true.

VdV, Huntelaar, a new FB, plus Thiago Silva and a *knock on wood* healthy Nesta................I'm dreaming...................

Really I don't get where you're getting those 15M euro's for Santacroce. There's absolutly nothing to that, 15M euro's is a huge amount of money for a CB, let alone a 22 year old CB. Cannavaro moved from Inter to Juve for 10M euro's just to put things into perspective. In fact the only figure I've seen speculating in the press is 6M euro's, but sure, he would probably move for more than that if he did move.

And I agree, we do have an obscene amount of CB's, but I don't think that's a good thing since everyone of them, except Nesta and Thiago Silva seems to be way below par. It's a bad situation because we can't really buy anyone if we can't get rid of anyone.
