AC Milan vs Lyon (QF 2nd leg)

Seedorf - Pirlo - Gattuso
Sheva - Pippo

We come from a 1-0 loss away to Lecce (with a 2nd string side) and Lyon come off a 1-0 away win to Rennes.

We have failed to win only twice all season at the San Siro, or Devil's Den, as many would call it.

Juninho will be back for them, but they will be missing Tiago, who scored their goal against Rennes.

I believe in a 4-1 thrashing, to meet Benfica in the Semi-final in a couple of weeks!

The tension is growing. We simply must perform. I don't think that we will lose but the thing I am scare of the most is a scoring draw. Lyon is a good enough team to achieve that at the San Siro and we have to beware of that. The best way I think is to start off the game cautiously. We need to prevent them from scoring before we try to do anything else on their half. In other words.....SAFETY FIRST! I don't even want to think about what I am going to feel if we concede first.
Now if we score, I have a feeling that Carlo will put Ambrosini in for one of the forwards, which is going to make me go insane untill the final wistle goes. We can not defend a one goal lead. Lyon is good enough to penetrate a closed up team and we can not afford that mistake. If we are in the lead we need to keep the ball and not play kick ball.
I am really excited for this one and it will be really hard as Lyon in my eyes is the hardest team to beat in Europe. And yes...that includes, Barca, Inter, Juve, Arsenal, Chelsea......and so on. Their team is a perfect balance of skillfull players and physical presence. As form comes right now.....I think whoever wins this tie will lift the trophy come May. I think Barca has a great team but are not well balanced in the back and are weaker then both Lyon and Milan. I just pray that we beat the sh!t out of the French and show them that nobody even hopes to leave the San Siro happy!!!

It's just too early to speak of who will lift any trophies just yet - team perfomances will go up and down a couple of times till May.
I see your reasons for wanting us to be cautious but I hope Milan and Carlo will do exactly the opposite - go for the jagular from the first signal. I think it's better to risk it by pressing Lyon in their half and dominating them in the first 20 min or so, just like we did in Lyon and vs bayern at the SS, this time however we have to be more concentrated and don't let easy chances go to waste like we did in Lyon. true that we might be risking on their counters but I think it's better to risk getting an away goal in the early stages of the game rather later on when coach and team may very well NOT have enough time to react and turn the game around.
Should we score a goal or two in the first 15-20 min of pressing, the game will be downhill for us after that as we would be able to take them on counters - very much like we did with Bayern - and those would be deadly with rested Sheva and Kaka in the ranks.
It will be a tough game but after all, they all are.

with rested Sheva and Kaka in the ranks i can definaltly see us scoring i just hope that it's more than the opponent, Also serginho and stam have both had rests and will be really up for this one, i can see us going through just.

So Stam will play, we really need him. With Lyon being so physical, its really his kind of game.

Agreed completely, is it just me, or has he been playing a lot better since it was announced that he is leaving after this season?

hmm, other members here have noticed that.. honestly, i never thought Stam played bad, i always thought he was one of the best defenders in the world and still do.

If we can score in first 20mins I'm sure that we will destroy Lyon like Bayern...Lyon is a weaker team, Milan played better in Lyon rather than in Munich...

Lyon depends only on 1 guy Juninho same as Bayern on Ballack...but I'm confident that Milan will win, don't see what happened in Lecce, Milan is more agressive & combative in Champions League...

We sacrificed the formation with Lecce so rest many players and we should have won but Lyon is more important than Lecce so on Tuesday it won't be the same Milan and we will qualify

Lyon used all their players with Troyes and we have that advantage of more players being rested! Lyon has no experience in these kind of games no matter how strong they are and also they are not used to play in big stadiums so from the first minute they will be shocked!

If PSV did dominate them 90min by hitting the posts 3 times and missing goals with no goalie I think that Milan can beat Lyon by more than just 2 goals!

His performances always satisfied me, especially against Barca. But he has accepted this his last season at Milan and has nothing to lose so is playing without caution.

they won 0-1 against Troyes, no Rennes

it will be a very difficult game because Lyon is very similar to FC Porto when they won CL.
they play together for several years and play attacking football
they lost Essien, but Tiago is also a very good player

but i´m beting that ACM will won the match and goes to semi final
i´m not worried about Lecce´s game... the mind is on tuesday game
seriously i,m very confident in a good result (2-0)

i think a fit Cafu can be our extra bonus for the rest of CL.

Im not sure Stam will play, Carlo was resting Costacurta against Lecce. But we would really need stam for this game. Specially for Lyon's free kicks and crosses. If Costacurta plays down the right, Gattuso will again need to help him out with Malouda. And if Stam plays, Rino can take care of Juninho. If MAldini is ready, let him play, we need this kind of a leader. He did have a bad game on saturday, but they will see it in Milanello.
Just spread the game like we did against Lyon in the fiorst 20min, moove a lot, let Pirlo plays his game, and we will score. We need quality crosses from Serginho and Stam ( ? ).
Maybe, if Stam is not ready, and we know Billy cant hold more that 60min, after the 60th minute, Cafu can come in.
